Re: Names

  • @Xstatic3333 I love that you went through the companions! Whovians forever!
Yay! Was thinking I was the only one around here.
Whovian here too. My youngest daughters middle name is Rose and I love the name River too.
Rachel, mama to Ava (6), Olivia (4), Nora (2), and baby#4 on the way.

We really haven't talked names too much yet. DH's family is all about a Jr, but I'm really not into it. I already told him when we started trying that he was not getting a jr. Sorry!
We will probably start thinking about it more seriously once we know the sex.
  • LOVE the name River @rachoochoo2!

Claire is such a great name and was such a terrible companion.
And again we agree. Intentional absence from our list. Donna was awesome of course and was only omitted due to the name.
  • @MrsLittleMac our baby's name will be a complete secret until after he or she is born, strictly because I am not interested in anyone else's opinion on our choice of names. It's hard enough for us to agree on names - why would I ever want to introduce other people's opinions into that mix??
While husband and I couldn't agree on how to spell DD name. (Kayli vs kaley) we considered naming her brooke... we made the mistake of telling my mil this, then she constantly told us how she liked Brooke better. It really bothered me a lot. This time we've had people ask about the names, but I've refused to answer them. I think I'll be comfortable once we know the sex, and are 100% set on the name.

Well, it's a little tricky because dd's name is Raven. We want to stay with nature names. Dh and I LOVE the name Winter for a girl but I think it sounds too dark with Raven.
So, for a girl Willow Constance (Constance is my best friends name)
a boy would be River Tecumseh (Tecumseh is a family name).
  • LOVE the name River @rachoochoo2!
Weird question but do you read the series. A shade of vampire?

DD is Zoe Alexandra S (last name is very common and one syllable)

We like French names because we are bilingual, and because I don't want my French parents struggling with pronunciation. (Not that Zoe is French, but it's common in French and easy to pronounce). We are also keeping to family middle names.

    Girl: Maelle Olivia S
    Boy: Julien Owen S

So many great names already mentioned!!
  • Girls: Kailey Catherine, Isabella, Lucia (pronounced lu-chee-uh), Sophia, Adeline, and Lunella (it means little moon!), Savannah, Annalee, Charlotte, Olivia

Boys: STUCK!!! haha Maybe Julian or Joseph? We should find out if we're having a boy or girl in the next week or two, so if we're having a boy I'll need some help! Haha

I have a very Italian maiden name (it rhymes with spaghetti) and husband has a German last name. I would love to keep the Italian in there somewhere!
I never know when I see Lucia if it's supposed to be pronounced like you described or "Loo-cee-ah" or "Loo-sha". Is it just me and everyone else would know? I wouldn't want to pick a name where the child was constantly correcting everyone that read her name.

My mom did that to me and it was very frustrating and annoying growing up. I still get irritated having to correct people on its spelling. I get annoyed with my mom, not other people for spelling it differently.

    LOVE the name River @rachoochoo2!
Me too!!!! However, when we were deciding on a name for my son I was informed that would never be a possibility. Lol. My husband shot that one down quick.

I find girls names to be soooo much easier.
  • DS would be named: Wilfredo (Freddy) after my DH's twin who passed away at 25. The name means "he who desires peace"
DD has a few options that I LOVE: Amina, Savannah, and Mariah. DH has not weighed in much other than to say Aliyah (which I suggested too) is not an option lol. He has a bad memory of a girl with that name who drove him bonkers and he hated her lol

  • Our list literally changes daily.  We have a long and fairly common last name. I prefer timeless-ish names preferably with an easy nickname.  My girls are Emily (Em) Marie, Audrey Rene, and Addison Lynn (Addi).

Girls: Elise (Eli), Harper, Eliana (Eli), Camila (Mila)...I have more I just can't remember off the top of my head - I'm torn on middle names. I wanted Joan after my gramma but our last name also starts with J so I feel like none of the names flow with Joan.

Boys: Spencer (Spence) and Maximus (Max) - Maximus is DH's obsession. I just can't get with it. Middle name will be Robert for sure.

We have 3 girls so girls names are close to impossible for us. I've got plenty of great boy names.
Rachel, mama to Ava (6), Olivia (4), Nora (2), and baby#4 on the way.

  • DD is Savannah Eleice- her middle name comes from my grandmother, and we just loved the name Savannah.
DS is Kristopher Noel- his name is a play off of DH's name, his is Leon Krise, hence his name starting with a K and Noel is Leon spelled backwards.

We already have names picked out for the newest addition, my DH picked the girls name Elizabeth Marie no clue how he came up with it. I chose the boys name Carson Alexander, Alexander is my grandfathers name.

Girl's name is Harper Virginia and boy is Maverick Robert.
Maverick is my DS name, we love it!

I'm hoping this means both of you are crazy Top Gun fans like me...but that's probably just me lol

We've pretty much settled on Aurelia Rey for a girl. We've got nothing for a boy yet...although I'd love to work Maverick in there somewhere, maybe DH will let me use it as a middle name :)

  • @bdesterhouse I haven't but I'm always looking for something good to read. what is it about?
  • We have not agreed on too many names but the top contenders are boy: Clarkson mn my maiden name or my mother's maiden name and for a girl: Hermione. I know ppl will think it's because I'm a huge HP fan (and I am...) but she'd be named after my great Aunt Hermione (Nn Mina) who was a suffragette.

    DS1 is Mason Christopher
DS2 is Asher Rex (Rex after my dad)

    Girl name is Hazel Jane
    Boy name is Ezra James

That's about the only thing we have decided on with this surprise baby. Don't ask me where I"m going to put it in the house...

  • We haven't even discussed it yet, but I think this one is a girl and I can't get the name Annabelle out of my head.
We have a Timothy Jay, (dh's deceased father's first name and a family family middle name from my side). I want a family name for this one, but with 11 neices and nephews under the age of 8, all the good ones are taken!
  • I have 2 girls, Corinne Amelia and Mira Elise. Irish last name. We are having twins. I have a feeling they are girls, too (maybe there's a boy in there, but at least one is a girl). I am open to suggestions! I like the name Jack for a boy. Girls I like Fiona, Nora (too similar to Mira?), Lily, Lydia, Vivienne. I keep changing my mind. Any suggestions?

    Ugh. Stuck in the box!

Maelle has been my top girls name for ever! I haven't mentioned it to DH yet, but I'm really hoping he likes it as much as I do.

@Runner313 Nora is on my list, too! LOVE Vivienne
My personal frontrunner for a girl is Faye, but DH keeps shutting it down, because it reminds him of Tammy Faye Baker. I point out that it's really for Faye Dunaway, who is awesome and not insane. I think I need to just keep wearing him down. Jury is still out on boy names, but my flavor of the week is Max.

  • My husband would like to use the name Elias (a family name) for a boy, but he hates the nickname Eli. Like he seethes at the idea of his kid being called "Eli"; I think we're going to have to find a new boy name.  I actually prefer Eli to Elias, but am concerned that there Elias/Eli/Elijah are all in the top 100 boy names; I'd really rather stay out of the top 30, especially when similar names are also up there in popularity.

I have a few girl names I really like, but no boy names have really popped...we both like older names, but nothing too common.  Maybe Ike or Titus.

We're waiting to find out the sex at birth; middle name will be my last name (3-syllable English name), last name will be husband's last name (1-syllable English name.)
  • I really want to name him Gus, but no one, NO ONE is on board with that so I haven't any clue where to go from there. :)

Our Son is Augustus and we call him Gus. So far no one has hated it - at least said they did out loud :)
  • @amber_waves We've got Titus on our list as well, along with Tristan. We also like older names.

Turtlemobile2, I think the name Gus is a really nice name for a boy. Our neighbors named their son that and he's one of the nicest kids I've known. Despite that, I really like the name anyway.

  • @bdesterhouse I haven't but I'm always looking for something good to read. what is it about?
It's a huge series on kindle unlimited. It's hard to explain exactly what it's about without giving the good stuff away. I definitely recommend checking it out if you read on a kindle. River is a character that is brought in later in the series. If my husband wouldn't nix the name right away it would be a contender.

  • We are fairly set on the boy name, but still debating the girl name.

    Dean Wayne (family name)
    Rosalie Adalind/Adaline

    I prefer the "d" spelling/pronunciation, but I don't know if that's a legitimate spelling of the name.

Other contenders on the girl's name list:
Genevieve (DH is not a fan)
    Charlotte nn Charlie
    Danielle

Charlotte and Danielle would be nods to my dad, who I was extremely close with. The boy's names are DH's family tradition, so I am torn between the girl names.

Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • I've got a niece named Lucia (loo-chi-a) - she goes by Lucy a lot here in Canada. My nephew is a Gianni and oh boy does that name get mispronounced here in Canada - but I don't know that I've ever seen him get upset about it.

I've got a common name that starts with a C instead of a K (nick name is Catie) - because there is no K in the Italian alphabet (though all the Catie's on my dad's side, the non-Italian half, were also C). Sometimes it is annoying but not so much that I'd want to change it. I like the way it looks better with a C than a K...

Still coming up dry for boy names... sigh. All the good ones are taken or associated with cousins (also taken) or too "Italian" in that DH has issues pronouncing them (or just doesn't like them) - so Dante, Renato (love that one), Roberto (I can't remember why that was vetoed) are all out... Thank goodness we have time.

As an aside, it sometimes feels early to be thinking about names, but that might be my PGAL brain talking.

  • I like long names. DD's has 4 syllables (but we pretty much only call her by her NN. Or "pumpkin".) and I'd like this one's to be similarly long. I've started a name list but SO doesn't know. Once we find out if we're team pink or blue, I think I'll open the discussion. Right now it's purely for my entertainment.

  • DD is Abigail Ada
    DS is Cole Taylor

If this little critter is a girl it will probably be Emily Claire (although I'm not a fan of how popular Emily always is....) and we're still working on a little boy name.  We've had those 3 names picked out since we started trying for our first and never felt like we needed to add to it.  We've talked about the name Daniel, but haven't come up with a middle name we like.

I think it depends greatly on where in Canada. It's a pretty big place with a lot of differences depending on where you are. (And those names are pretty easy to pronounce) Those names would not have have been out of place where I grew up, or even when my mother was younger where she grew up.
