  • @asht have you tried putting your dogs poop in the holes. My border collie used to dig all over the backyard and it worked for her.
  • @seitzy3 if it showed up overnight, I don't think you should be that concerned about an effect on you. It can probably be cleaned up with a bleach scrub. However, it is something that should be mentioned to the owner for sure.

  • @blondie080300 @lovelylauren86 I loved Luke's hometown date! His dad was so sweet, I teared up during their talk. I don't think Jojo deserves him. I'm not a fan of her honestly. Her constant need for validation from the guys really annoys me!

    Nope
  • @mom2adoodle I have been saying she doesn't deserve Luke too! I want to say more about the episode tonight but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. So I will just leave it at that...but yeah, Luke...swoon... <3

  • I'm exhausted and I need to whine.

My poor 4.5 year old ended up pretty sick with some sort of stomach bug. She threw up all day Saturday. Even licking an ice cube made her sick. Sunday she woke up seeming pretty fine. No throwing up, her appetite started to return. This morning she seemed a little off, but insisted she was ok. Then she started throwing up again. Pretty much 8am-5pm.

She makes me scared when she gets sick. She is very skinny for her age and is labeled as a "problem feeder" who has gone to therapy for sensory issues for eating. I feel like every bit of food and nutrition counts for her. I took her to the pediatrician today. No other symptoms...no fever, no diarrhea. Ruled out strep and appendicitis. She seemed to be perking up tonight. All she wanted was water, which the doctor said was fine for today until her stomach settles. I'm really hoping tomorrow is a better day for her.

I'm usually on my game when my girls get sick, but I've been battling a migraine since Saturday night and I'm just generally exhausted. I'm at the point where I just want to feel like myself again with some normal energy levels. I had plans to get a bunch of stuff done from my to do list, but it's all on the back burner. I hate that, but it is what it is.

Now to keep my fingers crossed that I can keep myself and my 2.5 year old from getting. My husband is on his own  ;)

  • Hopefully this is my last complaint about teething for a very long time...

I got about 5 hours of sleep last night. The final canine tooth broke through, so we decided not to give McKenna Ibuprofen last night. Clearly a mistake. She was up at 2am. She went back to sleep pretty quickly, but I couldn't fall back asleep or get comfortable. Then she was back up at 5:45 when DH's alarm went off. Luckily, DH is awesome and he told me to stay in bed and get some sleep while he got her up to give her breakfast and change her diaper. That got me one more hour before I had to get up so he could get ready for work. I just want to sleep when she naps (and longer), but I need a shower and then she and I need to run to the grocery store to fill some of my prescriptions then to the OB's office so I can drop off DH's FMLA paperwork because I forgot to give it to them at my last appointment. I already just want this day to be over! :weary:

  • @camichael84 - I hope things are different for M, but when E got his canines, they still bugged him for a bit off and on. I think because just the super sharp point of the tooth had poked through, but it gets so much broader as you move up the tooth that it still needed to erupt a bit. Yowza.  Not as bad as when they first cut through, but still just wasn't fully himself at night (lots of moaning/whimpering)

  • @AnnaS930 I worried that may be the case, but we wanted to give one night without the ibuprofen a chance. We've been giving it to her most nights since the canines started coming in, and I'm feeling guilty she's taking it so often. But it keeps her from waking up crying in the middle of the night, so she'll get it tonight.

  • @camichael84 - we do the exact same thing with teeth.. play the game of bedtime "should we give a dose of IBU or skip it and see how it goes?"  I feel comfortable giving him 1 dose of ibuprofen at night quite frequently when a tooth is coming in, and sometimes rub a bit of baby orajel on that spot just for shits and giggles.
Like a lot of parents we try to limit meds for him, but if it's the difference between him getting a good night's sleep or waking up screaming in pain in the middle of the night, I'm all for it.

  • I gave in and took a Benadryl today. I feel like I'm making it a bigger deal than it really is, especially since I know it should be safe and the NP was the one that told me to get some over a month ago. I'd been paranoid and pushing through the allergies but, after barely getting any sleep last night and being so foggy I can't even drive today, I decided to stay home and go for it. I hope I can feel better and catch up on some much-needed sleep!

  • @camichael84 same. She's been up every night for over 2 weeks at 1:30. Wants milk and to be rocked. All night last night she would wake up every 1-2 hours and scream, and then decide to lay back down. Then I couldn't get back to sleep because I felt like she would wake up again at any second. I hate new teeth. Her teeth are so slow moving too. I can't even see the canines, but that tooth I thought was missing is amost through the gums

@AnnaS930 my friend went camping at 39 weeks and said she slept better on the air mattress than her real mattress! Haha. Fingers crossed it all goes well for you and you have a fun time!

I feel like this would be true because it'd meld around your body better depending on the firmness of the air mattress.   That being said - our mattress sucks so anytime we're on an air mattress I usually sleep better anyway.  :D
  • Booo, had my appt today and my BP is elevated (which it has every pregnancy I've had, toward the end) but now instead of bi-weekly appts, she's putting me on weekly and I have to have weekly ultrasounds from this point on. Also, she thinks baby is still breech, so that's annoying, but at least we'll see on Thursday. At that point, I might need some spinning baby help!

  • @RG1 and @LakeR2014 - I've been sleeping ok at home, and usually do OK on the air mattress, here's hoping it's a good night!  Luckily I haven't been getting up much to pee... but hoping to find a site without neighbors because I will most certainly be popping a squat in the woods if need be.  The next time my husband has a whole weekend off I'll be 38 weeks, if this goes well I'd consider camping for that weekend, but who knows.

Emmett does well in a pack-n-play, hoping the same holds true for when he's in it in a tent.

  • @LizC216 Sorry to hear your DD has been so sick!  I know how worrisome it can be!  I hope she feels better soon and that the rest of your family avoids the bug, too!

@camichael84 No advice but I'm with you on the teething woes.  That stage has passed for us but I remember how awful it was - for all of us!!  Hang in there!

My random for the day - my entire house smells like skunk.  Last night, I first noticed it when I was in the living room.  Then I went upstairs to go to bed and smelled it even stronger in my bathroom (exact opposite end of the house as the living room).  All night as I tossed and turned, I would wake and smell this putrid skunk smell.  To the point where I wondered if it was the dog but nope, he just smelled like dog.  So, anyway, there must be a skunk lingering around or perhaps was hit on the road nearby.  Either way, I hope it doesn't last long...!

  • @Bibliobebe im dying for fall to get here. I will definitely be decorating early this year!!!! I really hope I'm up to taking the girls to the pumpkin patch, I think DD1 is finally old enough to enjoy it this year.
  • @JennM205 I came on to post about a skunk too!

I think there is one living underneath our backyard deck. I've seen it twice in the last two weeks, walking around minding its business at 6pm! I thought they were supposed to be nocturnal! Anyway, some of our neighbors dogs have been sprayed so now I'm very afraid of letting my dog out without me checking the backyard first (I would rather get sprayed then have her sprayed). We have water fountains in the backyard so I'm assuming our yard is attractive to skunks. We have lights everywhere too though and online peeps claim that keeps them away. WRONG. This skunk is an anomaly apparently.
  • I'm so excited for fall. I just wish Texas had seasons like I'm used to. I love hoodies and jeans and bonfires in September. Waiting until late October/November isn't as fun. :(
I started tearing up when I read your post @AnnaS930. Having the timer set to turn the Christmas lights on before you get home from Thanksgiving dinner sounds like Heaven! The kids were born on 3 December and I remember we almost didn't put up the Christmas tree that year. We always do it right after Thanksgiving but I was a week away from having them and just wasn't feeling it. I figured, the kids will never know and seriously, what postpartum mother is going to want to put away all these damn decorations?! I'm so glad DH convinced me to make it a "normal" Christmas though. It made it that much sweeter.

  • @UnwritteN12 - I completely agree on making the Christmas as "normal as possible" that first year ended up being really important.  We got a few pics of E under the tree even though he was just a couple of weeks old.  I think I took the tree down quickly that year though.. like maybe the day after Christmas.  Since we spent most of our days in the living room, the falling needles started to drive me insane and I just wanted the space back after the holidays.. but having the lights was super important.

  • TMI alert, but labor presented itself the first time with frequent trips to the bathroom.  I've had 2 in the past hour and am trying not to freak myself out.  If it happens a 3rd time I'm calling the doctor.  The baby has been moving around like crazy today and I'm just uncomfortable.  This is the first time all pregnancy I've just felt blah.  Hoping it's just my body's way of telling me I need to start taking it easy? (Because of course I don't.)

  • @PoodleDoodleOoo  - Put your foot down now!! DH and I had this talk prior to having kids and every year prior to moving to Texas.

Background - My family is military and we spent every year (except one when I can remember when my dad was deployed and we were living with extended family when I was young) enjoying Christmas as just the 5 of us. We were always far away from extended family and it was what we were used to. No commitments, no going anywhere, it was lovely. Enter DH whose family gets together on Christmas every year at multiple people's houses (they all live in MN). I'm sorry, what?? You want me at your grandparent's house at 9 am on Christmas morning??

Before we had kids, we slowly backed off by alternating every year. One year, we would go out to his grandparent's house early on Christmas morning to be with everyone and the next year we would stay home. But I told DH things would have to change once we had kids. Whenever we discussed his Christmases growing up, I felt bad for him. He said he was up and out of the house by 7am (after having gone to Midnight Mass the night before) and on his way to Forest Lake to have Christmas #1 with family. That afternoon, it was off to Christmas #2 down in the cities and they didn't get home until late Christmas night. That sounded like an awful lot of work. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Anyway, my point is, I was where you sound like you're at. I wanted my kids to be able to enjoy their Christmas morning without having to stress about getting up early and getting ready to go somewhere. I wanted them to enjoy opening their presents and playing with their toys and relaxing all day. And DH agreed. We put our foot down and I don't feel any guilt. We've made our own traditions (Christmas with his parents and sister the Sunday after Christmas, dinner with my parents on Christmas Eve) that don't involve shuffling the kids around to everyone and their mother on Christmas day.

  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom, my allergies have been completely off the charts the last month or so.  I snore so loud that I wake myself up and I get up in the morning with an upset stomach from all of the drainage. I took Benadryl last night, too, but only took one pill and it didn't seem to help much.  I'm going to take the full dose tonight and see if it makes a difference.  Don't feel bad for taking it....it's always on the "okay for pregant women" list and it doesn't do baby any good for you to be exhausted and worn down.
  • @UnwritteN12 - you're so right. DH and I need to come up with a basic plan in how we want to spend our Christmas now and he needs to stick to it when he tells MIL what we are doing. Last year we went out to dinner with his parents one night a few weeks before Christmas and he basically said, Stephanie, you and my mom need to figure out Christmas. Yeah, that did not go down well ...What really drove me nuts was that she acted like we weren't going to see her on Christmas day at all, which isn't true. We just want to see her later, along with everyone else (aunts, uncles, cousins etc) and only for a few hours, not all day long. Last year we ended up  spending all day literally from 6 am to 10 p.m. with family. It was exhausting and I'm not doing that with a 3 month old. I'm just not.
