@AnnaS930 - Smack your co-worker for me please? So, in her mind, only someone that is overweight can have diabetes? While I know that's more common for Type 2, has she not heard of Type 1?
@UnwritteN12 - Please remember that this person is extremely smack-worthy at all times.
I pointed out that while being overweight is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes, that it has nothing to do with type 1 or gestational. She's just out there.
@RG1 oh yes. And who said that if she had truly gained the amount they said (which is less than what I've gained) that it would be "one big ass baby!" She's so considerate.
She also frequently tells me things like "I honestly think you look great" ... I want to tell her, you can just say "You look great" The fact that you're having to say that you "honestly think so" makes me think that there should be reason to doubt you. Very odd.
Pregnant coworker found out this weekend that she has gestational diabetes. She was basically arguing with me that because her first number was too high before drinking the sugary drink, she should not have diabetes. I explained that a failure of fasting glucose is an automatic diagnosis.
She's worried about being put on medication because she has never "personally seen a skinny diabetic" and assumes it will make her gain weight. She currently looks as if she weighs about as much as my left leg.
Gah! I regret making suggestions for her baby shower. FTR, my weight gain has rapidly slowed down when being diagnosed with GD (both pregnancies and meds both times) because of the carb restrictions. Also, has she not heard of Type 1? I have a Type 1 friend who is on a pump (obviously), and is thin. My grandma has never weighed more than 125 in her life, and she has Type 2. How does someone in the pharmaceutical world know so very little about diabetes?? The arguing with you over her fasting really gets me. But at least she doesn't have to worry about giving up cookie dough.
Oh, but I'm laughing my ass off about the fact that she thought her Dr was weighing her wrong, and now she has GD. It's petty and vindictive and as someone who has GD, I feel like I should feel bad for doing it. But I don't. (I do feel bad she actually has it, though. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.)

Fair point. Just promise then that, when someone's patience runs out with her and she does get smacked, we find out right away! Thanks!!
Started working on stocking my freezer this weekend. I've got 12 bags of Italian meatballs in marinara that's roughly 240 meatballs! Also did 9 bags of BBQ flavored ones. That's about 145 of those. I made 3 bags of BBQ chicken thighs and 5 packs of burger patties(20 burgers)(all H had to do is thaw and grill) also made about 20 servings of duchess potatoes
@camichael84 - I feel the exact same way. I don't wish that she had GD, but as you and other mamas on here with GD make clear often, the worry about having GD is the well-being of the baby.. not about whether diabetes meds are going to make you gain weight. Like.. seriously? She wanted to be put on fertility meds when she and her husband started trying but really didn't want to gain weight. I TOTALLY get not wanting to gain weight, I have plenty of weight issues.. but my wanting of a child completely trumped the fear of gaining a few pounds, both times. I mean really, you're signing up to gain 25+ pounds if the meds work right? What's a few pounds in the process?
For anyone with a Target registry - I just spoke with Target and the 15% off online completion coupon applies to ALL items in your cart. There is free shipping for anything over $25. Also, if you use your RedCard with the completion coupon you will get 20% off instead of 15%
@AnnaS930 Crinkle Cut is always saying stuff like your last comment and j can't handle it. She's always saying that she just is so nervous about getting pregnant because of how it changes your body and she just doesn't know if she ca do it. Fine. Don't then. If you can't handle your body changing to have a child, then don't have one. Probably for the best.
I get get being sad that maybe you have stretch marks now, or you gained extra weight and all that, but she gets so, so anxious about it. And she weighs 90 lbs too. So annoying.

Regarding dogs - There is no way Fred will let me forget him. That cutie is (ever so politely) relentless when he wants attention. He's all "tap tap, I'd like to be petted now, please" If anything, I think Fred is going to end up with a new best friend (the baby) and I'm going to be the one all "why don't you love me anymore!!!!"
Also regarding dogs, I would be incredibly concerned if my dog started growling at people in a "protective" manner. The dog might end up meeting the baby and find it to be a threat and end up with a growling or even attacking response I'd talk to professional trainer and your vet about this new behavior and see what's up and what you can do to make sure your pup is feeling comfortable.
@mamadomino - I am dreaming of the day when DH and I can get a mini-van. Being young and cool is for the young and cool, and I'm not about that shiz anymore. It's going to be glorious! Think of all the cupholders and storage space! Hellz yea!
@Ssoccerball - you don't need to keep up with the randoms thread to post. If I miss a few days I usually just skip to the latest two pages and jump in there. Anything earlier is probably too late for me to add my two cents to anyway. No need to play catch up if you can't, that is the glory of the randoms thread.
And I'm in denial about the time. No way is it the end of July. It's still April and the calendar is playing tricks on us, right?!
I'm going in search of cold air. I normally can handle the heat and normally my office is set on sub-zero. But none of the above are applying today. I might take a nap on the couch in the lobby.
@AnnaS930 Sounds like someone that I would have a lot of trouble controlling my "eye rolls" around! I'm one of those people who is generally nice to everyone, but good lord, if I don't like you or find you annoying, there's no hiding it with this face. I hope she gets lots of death stares from you!
In regards to dogs, mine doesn't get nearly the amount of my attention she used to, but she gets more than she wants from Emmett. His new favorite thing is giving her "treats". I give him one and he furrows his brow and says "two!! I? Two teats? Yahtzees???" For some reason roxy sounds like yahtzee, it's the best. Here's a pic of my mini dog trainer just to be an AW...
@AnnaS930 That's so funny! Emmett and Roxy are adorable!
Just starting last week, McKenna is all about giving Eddie (our dog) treats. She'll run to his treat jar and try to reach for one. We call them cookies (which has been confusing for her in the past), and she'll hand it to him and say "Cookie!" She's also about scolding him when he's got something he shouldn't (ie paci or one of her toys). She's been doing it for a while, but she run to him and start wagging her finger in his face and yell either "Go, go, go!" or "No, no, no!" Also she alternates between calling "Dawg" and "Eddie". Dog is my favorite because of the way she says it.
I swore up and down that our dogs and kids were going to be best friends. It's only been recently that they pay attention to each other! I think a big part of it is that the kids are in charge of feeding the animals and, sometimes, letting them outside. I take that back....the dogs were really into the kids far before the kids were into the dogs. One reason....FOOD! I swear that's why Tobi is as overweight as he is. Anything that fell onto the floor, he and Snickers got. I'll never forget the kids dropping an entire box of honey nut cheerios on the floor and, by the time I got to it, half of them were gone. Thanks for your help, Tobi. I'm really hoping that the babies are more interested in the animals though!
@PoodleDoodleOoo there have to be at least 15 cup holders in this thing. Plus a "cool box" that can fit a 6 pack. Of soda, obviously. And there is a ton of room for activities! And I can fit 3 rear facing car seats in the middle row. Bam!
@UnwritteN12 - My brother's dog also gained a lot of weight when my nephew was a baby/toddler. The dog loved cleaning the scraps off the floor and my nephew started intentionally throwing food on the floor for the dog. Oftentimes, he would try to throw food on the floor when he was at other places. I remember being at a restaurant once with them. I went to pick up some food that had been dropped and my nephew told me that I didn't need to pick it up - the dog would get it.
Most people I know that had a dog before a baby had very few problems having the dog adapt to life with baby. I think only 1 person I know had problems serious enough that they had to re-home the dog. We don't have a dog, but I am sure DS would love one. We have 2 cats. One keeps her distance (like many cats do around toddlers) while the other is really patient with DS.
@PoodleDoodleOoo, it honestly never occurred to me to be concerned about my dog growling, as she is so good with my other kids and has never shown any sort of aggressive tendencies. That being said, she is extremely bonded to me, so it's a good reminder to keep a careful watch on her behavior with the babies coming.
@mamadomino, we just got an Odyssey, too! I went kicking and screaming into minivan ownership, but I have to say that I know it will be great to have doors that open on their own when I need to load two babies. And that all of my friends can load in when we want to go to the wineries (-; Silver linings!
I'm not enjoying the baby book that I purchased for LO. At first it was fun filling it out but now I don't like the design. I also don't like my child's baby books to be telling me to do things like "Be sure to cook and freeze at least two weeks of meals in advance before the baby's birth."
WHY? Because I'm the only one in my house that can cook and it's my job to make sure everyone and the guests are fed even AFTER giving birth?
Ok. I know that's not what it really meant, I need to eat too duh, but DH actually is a better cook than I am so he can do it. Why does it have to be me?!
And screw your "Mommy needs List" with its ridiculous suggestions such as a MATERNITY COCKTAIL DRESS.
Despite some of its totally legitimate suggestions, I get the overall feeling that June Cleaver co-authored this thing.
Thanks for all the love on my little man and fur baby, I'm pretty obsessed with them... especially the kiddo, but Roxy is a very good dog (sure she's eaten a few pacifiers and sits under E's high chair praying for drops), but she's really matured since he came along.
@camichael84 - I've noticed in a few of your more recent posts, sounds like McKenna is talking a lot more? Did she have the language boom you were hoping for a few months back??
I love my dogs but not so much lately. They honestly are lucky my daughter adores them and they are amazing with her. They both have poor boundaries and will probably be the reason I die when I trip over them. One has horrible allergies and stinks all the time regardless of what we do. The other is a naughty shit and continues to dig under the dog fence to get out and run. He is super close to getting a filler that zaps him when he is to far out of radius of the house. I however am concerned he will get it hung up on the fence and hurt himself this I havent done it yet.
@asht Oh no! I'm sorry to hear your pup has allergies. So does mine. She take Benadryl every day and we have to wash her eyes, ears, and paws out on the daily with anti-fungal rinses. She's allergic to environmental things so it's impossible to keep her away. As for the digger, that sounds frustrating AND scary! Can you put bricks down there so he can't access the dirt?
@AnnaS930 Yes! She is talking more. Not as much as it sounds like Emmett is, but she's saying enough that I'm no longer as worried. I've lost count of how many words she has, she's repeating animal sounds now, and she says a few phrases. And she's saying "mom" now! Still not often (booger), but she can and will say it. When we went swimming yesterday, she kept calling some kid's inner tube a "bubble". Bubble isn't really a new word for her, but it's a story I just thought of that I thought was funny. Haha.
@camichael84 DD says a ton of words, but I can make out about half of them. I'm no longer concerned about her speech, she talks all the time, but it's so frustrating when she's saying something over and over and I have no clue. If we need it though, SIL is an SLP, so free therapy! Haha
@camichael84 That's excellent! I'm a little OCD about milestones and development.. At 20 months she's still at the milestone that we are at, which the vocab goal is 8 words beyond "mama/dada" so if you've lost count, I'd say she's at/above the expectation! Woop woop! And, as with other things.. there are several other abilities within the same communication milestone to meet, so even if it was still low the other abilities would even it right out.
@AnnaS930 - I didn't realize that the vocab goal for 20 months is only 8 words. Makes me feel pretty good about my LO. It has felt like his speech has been developing slowly but he is definitely beyond 8 words. And he understands us when we talk to him and give instructions.

I have used chicken wire and oak logs stacked along the fence. He digs so much his nails are usually broke and bloody. I can bury fence in because it's around a bunch of pine trees and roots are a big problem.
I feel like there's such a huge range of normal for speech in the under two club. My understanding is that being able to understand what is being said to them is much more important than actual speech at that age. Anecdotally, I had a lot of concerns about my daughter's lack of speech, my pedi didn't, and then she turned two and it was like overnight, she had a language explosion. She never shuts up now
But nonetheless, for those with concerns, it never hurts to get an EI evaluation.
We are getting a much needed storm right now and the dog is curled in my lap shaking uncontrollably. I wish I could get her to do it on my back cause then it'd at least be like a massage.
@MrsVoorhees It takes me some time to tell the difference between some words sometimes. Usually if I can't make out what she's saying, I assume it's gibberish. Haha. Maybe I should try harder to understand if she's actually trying to say something.
Alright, so occasionally I feel this gurgling sensation in my belly and I SWEAR it is baby farting or pooping in there! It's probably not actually be that, but it definitely feels that way!

My randoms this Monday afternoon
1. The doggie beach is all fun until three black labs come from the ocean and shake them dry on you. Slobber and all! I still love dogs!
2. Today marks 30 days until baby girl is here. 30 DAYS. ( being said if we keep our induction scheduled)
edit bc I forgot there are 31 days in July. Soo make that 31 days.

Cute kid + Fluffy little fluff butt = so adorable!!!

Back to whine more about the heat - I think I might melt.
