Bravo to all of the ladies with productive weekends!
Mine was not productive but I'm finally coming to terms with it, I think. I'm on pelvic rest until baby comes...no lifting, sex, exercise or anything else that causes contractions. At this point, I have BH 20-30 times per day even when taking it easy so "anything that causes contractions" is pretty much everything. The last week and a half, I have been throwing myself a mini pity-party because I detest being still and also felt like the last month of my pregnancy was going to draaaaaag if all I'm doing is sitting around. But, yesterday, we had some good friends over for dinner. They have two daughters - one the exact same age as my DD and a 4 month old. She was in a similar situation towards the end of her second pregnancy due to her first being slightly premature. She had some great advice about how to cope with the "lazy blues" and it was just reassuring in general to talk to someone who gets it. Poor DH tries but he doesn't see it through the lens of an emotional pregnant chick (wonder why...?) haha.
@jenm205 I'm sorry you are on pelvic rest, I can only imagine how frustrating that must be (especially if your home is like mine and you are the one doing the bulk of all the cleaning and organizing). My Amazon prime membership would be on fire if I was confined to sitting around.
Is anyone else's little ones getting extra clingy these days? DS wants me to hold and cuddle him all the time (I'm not complaining about that!) but he gets so sad when I have to go in my office to work. He grabs my arm and lifts his little feet up so he "forces" me to carrie him (even if in a very uncomfortable position for him). Today he was running after me trying to hold my leg back as I went in. I had to cry for a minute or two in my office. At least I'll get to see him tons once my leave starts.
@Shiva14 not extra clingy, but extra crazy. My daughter is three and square in the midst of threenagerhood but I'm pretty sure some of the recent uber-crazy is related to the baby. I have a friend from my A13 BMB who is also pregnant and her daughter is acting especially maniacal as well. Can't decide if it's just typical three year old behavior or that combined with the baby coming soon.
@JennM205 sorry you're so frustrated. Do you do any crafty type things - sew, knit, etc. Maybe that could help pass the time.
We had a semi productive weekend. We were lazy on Saturday and pretty much rested and relaxed all day and decided to do some cleaning on Sunday. We cleaned out the junk closet (we all have one, right? I'm not the only one that hides their mess in a closet?) so we could fit baby's diaper boxes and packages. We got the stroller all set up and will install car seat bases next weekend! DH got our hospital bag out so I can start *slowly* packing. Time is ticking!
I did party favors for my son's second birthday. The theme was chicka chicka boom boom which really just meant a decorated cake, a banner with letters randomly on it, a simple craft with sticky letters, paper towel rolls, and felt leaves, and a sensory bucket with beans and letters and then food that had letters, like pasta salad made with alphabet letters (that someone else brought!) At any rate, favors were an iced cookie of your first initial and then a chicka chicka boom boom book if you were a kid, one per family.
Wow this thread was pretty busy over the weekend. I just read nearly 150 posts when I really should be getting work done. I have a lot to do and I only have a 4 day week. I am taking of Friday to go to Las Vegas for my mom's birthday. I just checked the weather. There will be high temps of 112 when I am there. Very thankful for air conditioning!
Sounds like many of you are making great progress on getting ready for baby. DH and I have been so slow at getting things ready. But our weekends really start to open up in mid-August, so hopefully we can get most of the stuff done before baby gets here. She won't be sleeping in the nursery right away, but I still want to get as much done as I can before she comes.
@camichael84 - Yes! It's an awful thing to have to get out of the pool!
@JennM205 - Bed rest really isn't as much fun as it initially sounds (I couldn't wait to go on bed rest with my first 2 and then quickly realized it was kind of a curse!). I'm glad you were able to connect with your friend on it though and hopefully she gave you some excellent advice!
I went through clothes that we save from Robert & Elleanore and holy cow! I didn't realize that there was so much. The only downside is that the seasons are 100% opposite (they were born in December and these two will be August). But we can still use the onsies and sleepers. I'm really looking forward to getting all this stuff in the wash and put into the dressers!
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom we have 2 junk closets, like 15 drunk drawers and a spare bedroom with a little bit of junk. All of the drawers in our kitchen besides our silverware drawer are for junk. Lol I'm starting to get really anxious about it all though and I think I'm about to start purging it all.
I finally realized why you shouldn't sleep on your back. My hip was killing me in the MOTN so I rolled onto my back to get up to pee. I typically just go to the bathroom when my hip hurts just to walk around and stretch. Instead I must have fallen asleep because I woke up I don't know how much later with a strong pain on my belly and feeling very, very dizzy. I kind of sat up since I was so dizzy I couldn't stand for a while. Who would've thought that the doctor was right all along? Lol
@PSUBecky23 I do like to craft and read but part of my struggle is that I feel the need to engage DD as much as possible for the time we have left with "just her". I feel too guilty to do "me things" if she is around though I know it's a double-edged sword because I can only read a book or play memory so many times before I get antsy. Her too, really. She wants to run and play - not sit because Mommy is sitting! We had zoo and beach trips planned over the coming weekends. DH is going to take her to the zoo. I have to sit that one out but will hopefully still join them at the beach and just chill on the blanket! I'm also trying to think of other activities I can do with her that are more stationary - mother/daughter pedicures and maybe a paint-a-pot type date are what I have come up with so far. Meanwhile, I know I definitely need to find a balance of "me things" to help stay sane over the next month and not feel guilty for it.
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom Yes to the junk closet! When my BIL lived with us, I told him I'd spend the first weekend or two clearing out the junk closet in "his" (the guest) room for him. That never happened - there was just nowhere for it all to go! (We had just moved and a lot of it is unpacked decor that I haven't found homes for yet.) Oops.
I was a random poster on the random thread, but had decided to make a serious effort to keep up in July. I spent last week getting caught up when the weekend hit and there were 354 new posts today. (-: Can I still post occasionally if I promise that I'm doing my best to keep up?
This morning I'm wondering how many people's pets have gone into overprotective mode? I have a black lab who is sweet, but not at all territorial or protective. We call her "Lenny" sometimes because she doesn't know her own strength...she won't hunt rabbits in the yard, but will try to play with one. The result is the same. Anyway, I had a plumber come to the house today and my lab ran and jumped between me and the plumber and started growling at him, which is so weird. We've had her three years and she's never growled at anyone. She either found the plumber to be shady or was being protective of me.
I'm so impressed with how productive everyone was this weekend. My mom, sister and nephews came to visit and we just hung out all weekend. We also played Bean Boozled....what on earth made me think that a pregnant woman could handle eating a jelly bean flavored like a stinky sock?
As you all know I am moving right before the baby is due. at my new place I'll have PLENTY of storage and space etc etc but right now I don't- I'm not sure where I'm going to put all the baby gear and presents we get from our showers. At SIL shower yesterday she got so much we had to spilt it between 3 cars, now I know that I might not get as much as she did but what if I do?
Would you guys rent a storage unit for 2 weeks? Would you just make room? I guess I won't know if it's a problem until it's a problem but hypothetically
@JennM205 I totally get that guilty feeling. There's been way more screen time than I'd like for my daughter lately because I'm on my own with her a lot and I just don't have the energy. Sounds like you have some good ideas of fun things to do. Any craft projects you can do with her at home? I'm not crafty so we don't do anything but definitely check out pinterest for "sitting still" crafts. Or fill up a baby pool and you sit in it while she plays.
@lovelylauren86 we have that problem in our upstairs, air comes out cool but it still gets up to 80 every day that it's hot and sunny (most days). Good luck with the repair, I always wonder how the workmen stand it too, in a hot insulation filled attic or a basement or worse, outside in long pants and shirts. It's like a hot yoga class that lasts all day. Bleh!
@megan324 Being completely honest, it would probably just sit in my house for those 2 weeks, even if it meant piling it up and making a room unusable. Since it's so short term, I don't see DH or I ever getting around to actually renting a place, taking things there, getting them back, etc.
@Jabreen we don't have an extra room to put it in- so it would have to go in the dining room and our bedroom and the bathroom and the lliving room haha
@Megan324 I'm with @Jabreen. I'd just leave it sitting out and piled up for the couple weeks. I don't think it would be worth the cost and hassle of taking it to a storage unit.
@Ssoccerball - With the first two, one of our doxies was way more protective than normal. The other, just snuggled more. With this pregnancy, it's the cats. They're not necessarily more protective, but they're more lovey. Dinah (female cat) sits on my bump frequently. I'm fairly sure she thinks these babies are hers at this point. Stinky sock flavored jelly beans! Yuck!! Makes me think of Bernie Botts Every Flavored Beans from Harry Potter!
@Megan324 - I'm with @Jabreen....I think getting the storage unit would be more hassle than just making space in your current place. Here's hoping it's a problem that you end up having.
@Megan324 - I would keep it in your current place and just live around it. When we got married, we were closing on our house 3 weeks later. Between the bridal shower and actual wedding we had TONS of boxes of stuff, luckily in a decent sized apartment. For those few weeks we ate dinner at the couch (sometimes using boxes as a dinner table), and let the boxes consume the dining room. It wasn't perfect, but the excitement of the upcoming move made it all worth it.
@megan324 at least everything will be in boxes which should help make the move a little easier. It may be cramped for a few weeks, but it will be easy to move later!
My dad just met me at work to lend me his carpet cleaner. I can't wait to clean my carpet (we have it just in the living room, going up the stairs and the hallway upstairs.. but will only do living room as the rest gets minimal traffic comparatively). I've been steam mopping my other floors on the frequent lately (did them on Saturday and was sweating for hours after), now I get to deep clean the carpet too. Yay nesting.. but boo for it setting in with 90 degree temps and high humidity (I'm a wimp.. I live in Maine).
DS1 came the day after my shower. Our cars were literally still packed with all of the presents when we went to the hospital. People brought it in and dumped it in our living room for us because we were planning on moving before baby was born so didn't have a room for him or any other place to put stuff and that's essentially where it sat until we did end up moving, which was delayed a bit since his early arrival set us back at bit. I only pulled out what we absolutely needed during that time before moving. So I'd say just let it sit because in the event baby comes a little earlier than planned you aren't going to want to have to deal with a storage unit. Just pile stuff up in a corner as best as you can, or under the table, or wherever there's a nook or crannie available.
@Ssoccerball YES, my dog has been much more protective of me lately. Not necessarily growing but standing between me and strangers. It's hard to know whether to correct her (tell her no) or let her since it's pretty instinctual. I guess I'll wait and see if it develops into something that is concerning.
I am lacking some serious motivation to go through baby shower gifts! I laid around all day yesterday and have today off too and I just feel so tired/lazy. Shouldn't I want to be unpacking everything, arranging it all and nesting? Instead I just want to go back to bed.
Married: 3/21/15 First time mom to a human but have been a puppy mamma for over 12 years
If I could actually do that in real life without fear of passing out I think I'd feel better.
That is all.
(P.S. I am reading everyone's randoms and keeping up with all of you crazy wonderful gals but I'm spazzing on level ultimate right now over things that need to be done in the next week so trying to spare you all any overexposure to my weird company.)
I am keeping up with TB as best as I can, but feeling SUPER frazzled now that baby showers are over and it's time to start ordering all things nursery related!
Does anyone know about the online Target completion coupon? I know it is a one-time order, but does the 15% off count for all items in your cart or just one item?
I am clicking around on the Nordstrom site looking at their Anniversary sale and saw quite a collection of jewelry for baby. I can understand baby earrings since some people choose to pierce young. But bracelets? And since this is Nordstrom, it is real gold and probably more expensive than any bracelet I own...I never realized how well accessorized some babies must be for stuff like this to exist.
Oh yeah, got my BRU completion coupon in the mail this weekend, meant to report that. My due date is 6 weeks away.
I emailed someone specifically about this since I was previously told there was no completion coupon (thought maybe it was a Canada thing). They told me I'd get it by email 7-10 days before the due date. So I moved my due date up because really, who buys things a week before the due date haha.

I got mine in the mail last week and they actually called 2 weeks ago letting me know that it was on the way...hopefully you get it soon!
@marajay6 I guess getting babies a bracelet used to be a thing...? My Mom was telling me once that I have a baby bracelet which was the same one that my Grandparents got for my Dad. Apparently, it is somewhere in storage with other baby trinkets my Mom saved for me. When DD was born, she asked if I wanted it to give to her or if I was going to get her own. I was like, "...a baby bracelet...?"
@Sbrown721 This seems like a much more reasonable time line to be getting it than 7 days before my due date...fingers crossed that lady was wrong too and it comes soon!
ETA: its probably just their way of not actually having people use it. We don't actually NEED anything else (the rest on the registry is just wants at this point) so it doesn't matter to us either way. But no way I'd be waiting that late for the coupon to get things I need. So they're probably just banking on that.
@Sbrown721 - The Target one is for anything left over that's on your registry. So if you're buying 10 things off the registry it'll be 15% off of each item.
First off...yay for all you productive ladies this weekend - you're awesome and I wish I was in your place right now.
Second off....I was not productive this weekend, and will not be for the next week do to an insane work load, which after reading all the posts, has me all 'OMG WE'RE NEVER GOING TO BE READY FOR BABY!!!!'
So I'm going to go sneak off and have lunch now and try to calm the freak-out down. Reasonably I know we'll be ok, but anxiety wise, I'm all 'If the baby comes one minute before due date, we are screwed and will have nothing ready. "
Pregnant coworker found out this weekend that she has gestational diabetes. She was basically arguing with me that because her first number was too high before drinking the sugary drink, she should not have diabetes. I explained that a failure of fasting glucose is an automatic diagnosis.
She's worried about being put on medication because she has never "personally seen a skinny diabetic" and assumes it will make her gain weight. She currently looks as if she weighs about as much as my left leg.

Mine was not productive but I'm finally coming to terms with it, I think. I'm on pelvic rest until baby comes...no lifting, sex, exercise or anything else that causes contractions.
