What are you doing to mentally be prepared to go past your EDD?

Re: What are you doing to mentally be prepared to go past your EDD?

  • @Lynnlove28 DH and I have a date night planned for the first week in August and I'm excited for it! :) We don't get to see each other much since I work the next 3 out of 4  weekends and work evenings while DH has day hours.

Im really looking forward to my maternity leave because I will actually get to see him!

We are also all caught up on laundry. And I think I'm going to do the same thing and make an effort to keep up the daily stuff until this little one arrives.

Put some old CDs on iTunes so I could throw them out and have the music on an iPod for my car

  • Ugh I could kill the OB from the last appointment! (Actually she's probably my favorite one at the practice.) But up until she got so excited and said she was just sure that there's no way I'll make it to my due date and let me know the on call schedule for the hospital this weekend and told me to go ahead and make an appointment for next week but she doubts I'll need it - I was like @lucypod . All pregnancy I've just been surprisingly relaxed and wanted baby to just keep cooking until her due date and okay with the idea that she would probably go a little longer.
But since that appointment, I'm now really impatient. The last several days we have been going hardcore on our last minute to do list. I need to get back to that Zen place. Should have stuck to my plan not to have any cervical checks until due date.
39 weeks as of midnight and my next appointment is Wednesday so, we'll see if little girl won't throw mama a bone and come on between now and then . . .

  • I may just cry a lot and throw a few tantrums ;) I was induced with my first at 40 weeks and 1 day, so I don't know how far over I would have actually gone had there not been intervention. I'm really hoping that I just go on or before my due date, the end of this pregnancy just feels like it's been dragging along at a snail's pace, and as selfish as it sounds, I'm ready to have my body back so that I can feel functional again... exhausted, but functional. LOL
  • Happy Monday to all those that are still working!

I'm trying to focus on these last 3 weeks at work and trying to ignore all the comments of "when are you due" (Due dates dont magically change) "you look like you could pop any second" (thanks for reminding me, I forgot about the basketball I'm carrying around)  "I think you've dropped since I last saw you" (umm, no I haven't but thanks for the analysis on my belly).

I need to clean out my snack drawer some (it was stocked up for pregnancy but I dont want all that food sitting there).  And other general cleaning off my desk and leaving to-do lists so someone can pick up where I leave off.

  • @ThisisNumber3 I am still working and it is so hard for me to even sit comfortably in my chair anymore. I need a recliner here lol. DD was up so much last night as she is getting new teeth so I am super tired. Thank God I am only here until 1:00pm! I also need to do some minor cleaning before I leave. Hang in there momma!
  • Well, today is the day I had DS (36+3). I looked at my schedule for this week and realized I had stopped scheduling myself for stuff. I have a hair cut on wed but aside from that (and DS is off camp tomorrow) I got nothing. Same with next week, too. I have a dentist appt but other than that my only scheduled activity is my weekly ob appt.

I'm now coming up with my to do list. I'm going to do some more freezer meals and just general cleaning around the house.
  • @jamiesc58 - Ugh yes.  I'm trying to not lean back too much because I read that sitting up and forward (lean towards the desk) can help baby drop.  So I've got my legs spread as wide as I can and I lowered my chair some so I can lean easier on my desk.  We will see.  I just went and got some sweet tea to keep me awake

  • @ThisisNumber3 I've found that sitting in my desk chair with my legs super wide is most comfortable too... totally not ladylike, but I just can't care right now!
  • @labecker55358 I've started sitting on a birthing ball in the evenings in a similar position, not to move things along (although that would be a definite bonus  ;) ), but because it's the only comfortable position I can find! Sitting on the couch is no longer relaxing because I have to change positions every 5 minutes.

@ThisisNumber3 I am so tired of people telling me I got bigger... um... not really... you just haven't seen me all weekend.. and now that you have you think I'm huge... and stop staring at my stomach and smiling saying, "that's a big belly" um... wtf do I say to that?
  • I've been telling myself I could have LO any day now, but I'm realizing every day I wake up pregnant still I get frustrated and disappointed. I had a little chat with Ella and told her to come when she is ready. I'm just counting down the days until I go on leave instead. I decided to stop working after my due date whether she's here or not. 18 days until my due date! I've been bouncing on a birthing ball and trying anything to get stuff moving. Today I was on my feet for 8 hours solid and I feel like my pelvis is going to shatter. People keep saying "omg I can't believe you're still pregnant" or "you look bigger than the last time I saw you" .. yeah that tends to happen when you're growing a baby.
  • @jkershaw2013 - Ugh, I'm sorry but thats exactly how I feel and why I wanted to start this thread.  Its so hard to stay focused and not be miserable every day you are still pregnant.  Living in the constant "What if its today" is exhausting.

Thats great you have a work end date in sight you can count down to!  I'm trying to stay focused on that too (plan on ending on 8/12 regardless).  And yes, people dont seem to realize that those comments are obnoxious and not helpful.

  • I'll be 38 weeks this week and although I am excited to meet DD (still kinda nameless), my thinking the longer she stays in the more time there will be for me to procrastinate, I mean get things done.

I want baby to stay in until Aug 2nd... ( 38w1d) I will received 2 more paid days on maternity leave that day and it will round me out to a nice even number of 8 out of 12 weeks paid...I started this journey thinking wow... I am totally going to go to 42 weeks... most ftm's do right? Well everyone keeps saying "Oh I went at 37 weeks and 2 days" or "Oh I went with my first at 38 weeks" and DH is so impatient for baby that he looked up ankle massages to help baby decide to come... lol He actually chased me around the house saying "give me my baby!!!"

It hit me today that I could have a couple days left... but most likely I could have a month left... thats a huge difference in time... it sucks! and I suck at nesting... I don't want to clean anymore ... even things I should organize I'm like eh... I'll do it on maternity leave... I've washed everything... hospital bag is packed except for snacks... and the only thing we still need to purchase is a nursing pillow which we can order on amazon in the hospital with prime shipping lol... so I feel like I'm done... maybe I should suck it up and clean my car... inside and out for the car seat....
  • @Katm89 This sums up exactly how I am feeling! Only I am in my 36th week. :(

I am running out of things to do to. Everyone tells me I should just enjoy relaxing at home when I'm not at work. The thing is, I don't think I have ever been the type to just sit down and take it easy. I am always go go going.

Cleaning out your car sounds like a good idea to me. I think I am going to dangerously browse etsy again today ha!

  • @Katm89 - Have you installed the car seat?  I would do that and get it inspected to make sure you have it installed correctly.  But yes, cleaning out my car is on my to-do list but at the very very very very bottom.

@midwestbaby - Yes, shopping is my form of nesting!  I wondering into baby Gap yesterday and they said they just got a shipment in last night and another one going out on the floor Thursday.  So lots of new fall stuff to browse!

  • Katm89Katm89 member
@ThisisNumber3 No we haven't installed the seat yet... wasn't sure when to do it.
  • Katm89Katm89 member
@ThisisNumber3 I was worried that if it took a month the carseat would be in the car with me that long... should we install it.. have it checked and then take the actual car seat part out for now?

    @ThisisNumber3

DH had his car checked with the base and car seat because they had a car seat inspection one afternoon where he works. We decided to go with the middle seat for where to put it based on crash statistics. Both of our cars do not have the latch system in the middle though.
He apparently installed it all correctly in his car. Kudos to him because he is all about reading manuals.

He installed the other base the exact same way in my car. Do you think we should still get mine inspected as well?

@Katm89 - Yes Thats what I would do.  I would go ahead and make sure you can get a good fit and get it checked.  They should be able to teach you/show you what they did for the install so you would be able to take it out and put it back in.  They will help figure out best place to install it for a good fit in your car, if LATCH or belt install is better, etc.  But really, a lot of people have the car seat installed the last few weeks anyways.

  • @midwestbaby - Is it the same car seat just different car?  I think once you get the hang of how its supposed to fit and look and if you can read the manuals and follow the tightness and angle guides you should be able to figure it out on your own.  I think the biggest issue/concern would be that if the seat fit differently in your car (different overhang on the seat, different angle of the seat causing the car seat to sit in a different angle or the belt actually being different and having to tighten it differently).  Obviously the safe answer would be to go get both checked out.  But we've only gotten our first 2 seats checked and then we got the hang of it.

  • @ThisisNumber3 Thanks for the advice. I think the angle is definitely different. It is the exact same base and car seat. It does have a level on it and DH spent a long time getting it all just right. I may just take it to get inspected at the fire department for an extra reassurance. I wish there was another car seat inspection clinic in our area before this wee one arrives.

@ThisisNumber3 I will talk to DH about installing the car seat this weekend... i think it will help keep us busy.
  • I'm 39 weeks tomorrow woot woot!! I had my car detailed and installed the seat about 2 weeks ago.. I like driving around with it -it's so cute back there! Baby clothes and blankets are washed, mamaroo and rnp are assembled and ready to go, hospital bags packed, baby station all set up on my nightstand and I've been keeping the house tidy - my MIL comes over twice a week to help me deep clean so that's helped a lot .. I Think I'm actually ready! Never thought I'd get there but I'm excited to just sit around and wait now.
  • Katm89Katm89 member
@Mrsrundell I am so jealous that you got your car detailed... I looked into spending the 300$ to do it... but couldn't justify the cost... I will probably just go to a car wash haha

@Texasmama2014 I'm tired just reading all of that.

Since most of us are so close. Any special plans for Newborn photos? I just paid our session( 400$ and that's with a veteran discount). I am so relieved though that its all set. we will be doing photos around 1 week old.

I would like to sign up for clean the living space. Vacuuming is my jam.

Also I'd like to sign up for cleaning the fridge and freezer. I have a whole box of magic erasers itching to be used.

I will however pass on the grocery shopping. I hate buying groceries and figuring out meals.

Too bad Texas and Wisconsin aren't closer on the map!

@midwestbaby You can come help me finish deep cleaning! I'm in Wisconsin too ... how long would it take you to drive to Madison? ;) #justkidding #kindof

@Bookhousegirl Are we twins? My DS is finally down for his nap but I have to wake him up in 1/2 hour for his first dentist appointment (wish us luck!) so I figure... what's the point in starting anything? I'll just sit on the couch with my laptop.

  • I have too much to do as well @texasmama2014

It is too hot upstairs to do anything in the baby's room. It's a disaster.

I should pack my hospital bag too. But again no desire, energy, and I'm so hot.
