What are you doing to mentally be prepared to go past your EDD?

Re: What are you doing to mentally be prepared to go past your EDD?

  • @Katm89 I am starting to freak out that I might go early. I really have no reason to think I might--other than the fact that I still have a lot to get done at work and I need the next 3 weeks to finish it all. Every night, before I go home, I cross more off my list and make a new "go to" instruction list, but I really hope no one has to use it and I can finish everything before I leave.

@kristynmac it really is hard not knowing when things will happen... It never occurred to me until my MW said she knew women who went at 38 weeks that I would even be eat risk. I cried about it this morning lol and my husband was like... "hun, baby is going to come when baby comes... nothing we can do about it" I was like I know thats what is frustrating lol

I keep trying to remind myself I might go late - but I just can't deal with it. The sooner I have this baby, the sooner I can have my damn gallbladder out.  They were threatening to induce early, so we ran around panicked and made sure everything is done, and now I am just like *twiddle twiddle*

The only thing left to do is to get our car seat installation inspected, and I have an appointment to do that today.

I went at 36w3d with my first and they still don't know why so yeah, it can happen.

But this time we!re prepared and basically have everything ready (I hit 35w last week). Now watch, I'll end up going past 40w because of all the steps they're taking to keep this baby in!

I was planning on getting induced at 39 weeks due to baby's size.At my last appt my doc said she's not worried about size anymore, so now idk. My MIL is coming Aug 5-12 and my brother is going to be in town the weekend of the 12th. (I'm  due the 16th).

So now I'm torn. I can get induced and ensure that MIL will be here, it will be easier for DH to get off work, and my bro and his wife will get to see the baby. On the other hand I've had one labor with pitocin and one labor without pitocin and I would really like to avoid that If possible. I'm still trying to decide if I'll get induced but the thought having 27 more days. *facepalm* I went overdue with my first and it sucks.
  • @katm89 I have a feeling this baby will come a little early too, but I worry that me saying and thinking that will make me go past 40. While I want baby to come when he is ready, I really don't want to go to 42 weeks.

  • Getting a car seat check, thats a great reminder!  We have it (and need to wash it) but I need to spend some time figuring out the configuration.

  • Also, while I know there is a possibility I could go early (its my third), I'm trying to just mentally prepare that the odds are much more likely that I will at least go to my EDD.

Last night I got my hair cut and it feels amazing!  No other appointments for me this week, but DH's work is having a small lunch for us tomorrow so thats exciting.  I also need to work on planning a shower (I need games for kids and favors for the kids) that we are throwing August 6.

  • Katm89Katm89 member
@LCW1112 I am not allowed to go to 42 weeks...( I would be induced at 41w2d). so at 40 weeks I am ok with walking more... my MW recommends using my pump 3 times a day at 41 weeks to induce labor and I am already inserting 3000mg of Evening primrose oil at night. The primrose oil definitely feels like its doing things.. although I will say that since 32 weeks I have been saying oh no... things are happening... doesn't help that I watch people on Youtube and the woman that was 1 week ahead of me just had her baby yesterday and she was due aug 7th... so I'm like damn I could go.

I read an article though that said when you have longer cycles you tend to go longer ... and I ovulated on like CD 25? so I have like a 38 day cycle instead of 28... so maybe I'm destined to go late... ahhhh who knows!
  • Katm89Katm89 member
@Mrsrundell I seriously have love lost my mind... I've started nesting in the weirdest way. I am meeting a mortgage broker tomorrow to start getting preapproved for a house... and then sat we are touring 3 rental locations for next year... so we can start deciding where to live for August 2017! lol um... yes I realize this is jumping the gun lol... I don't know what to do with me

doesn't help that work is soooo slow that I pretend to be busy all day and just look at houses or "the bump" all day
  • Had my appointment today, I'm 1cm dilated but cervix is still long. I'm 36+5. I know dilation means nothing as far as impending labor .. just knowing I'm 1cm gives me hope! Haha
  • Katm89Katm89 member
@jkershaw2013 congrats on the 1cm! Its nice to know your body is doing something... I'm still very nervous about getting a internal check... I don't think my MW will even suggest it for a while... unless I ask
  • Yea Im going to stay away from internal checks for another few weeks just because I dont want disappointment.  Even 3cm can mean labor is WEEKS away.

  • Yea Im going to stay away from internal checks for another few weeks just because I dont want disappointment.  Even 3cm can mean labor is WEEKS away.
This.  Being dilated for weeks would be way worse than not being dilated.  I didn't allow a check until 39 weeks and even then I was tight as could be with no change.  Contractions started 3 days later.  Dilation doesn't mean much when it comes to how early baby will come.
  • @ThisisNumber3 yes... with all my kids I was dilated weeks before having them. This time around I started dilating at 36 weeks, and even at a 3 at 37 weeks and 70% effaced! But here I am a week later and still pregnant!
But I still like to know that I am progressing already, even if it doesn't mean much.
  • My son was one day late, so I am just assuming this baby will be the same. On the one hand, I still have so much to do that I feel like I really need these last 4 weeks and cannot fathom that I will be term in a week.  But it is over 100 degrees with heat index here, so some days I think I can't imagine being pregnant for another 5 weeks.

  • I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow. Is there anyone like me who is still feeling like it's completely unreal I'm going to have a baby in the next 5-6 weeks? At this point I'm hoping to go around my due date or a little later. I could be singing a completely different tune in a couple weeks, but right now I'm content with waiting. FTM jitters I guess.

  • Ok, so we installed the carseat. And I have the hospital bag pretty much ready to go,  apart from things we use on a daily basis.  Now it's a hurry up and wait game. I still can't believe I only have a little over 3 weeks to go! The bad part is if I go past my due date, my Dr. will be on vacation and won't be there to deliver.
  • Leeny3Leeny3 member
My husband gets 6 weeks leave and he booked it starting on my due date. So I've been telling myself it's okay if the baby is late because then I'll have some time to spend with him alone! We could go out for dinner, go for some walks, etc. I'm also not doing cervical checks yet because I don't want false hope haha.

I can relate to those of you feeling pressure from family. My mom lives back in my home country and is going to fly here as soon as she can when I go into labour, but she has been pressuring me to get an induction so she knows the date. No thank you...

  • @Leeny3 - Dates with the husband sounds like a great way to pass the time!  One of my fondest memories of my last pregnancy was going to walk the mall with DH while my oldest was at school.

I just found out my dad is going to be out of the country until Aug 18.  So another reason for baby to stay put until the EDD because my dad wont be able to come meet her until later in August anyways!

  • I just hit 38 weeks yesterday and I am a mess!!! My doctor has been doing internal exams since 35 weeks and I've been at 1cm 50% for two weeks. I really wish they hadn't started checking so early because I leave the office discouraged every visit. My family is going on vacation next week so they keep telling me I can't have the baby then..... because I have control of these things. :s I'm a FTM so I don't really know what to be looking out for, I've had lots of BH and cramps like menstrual cramps but I have no clue whether that means he is coming early or just getting ready. :/ I am a huge planner so I feel like I'm losing my mind thinking about it. I need to make plans for the next two weeks to keep my mind off it. :(

  • @catlady1027 - Ugh I'm sorry.  I still feel like its hard to know what to look for even on my third one!  I think the only things you can count on either your water breaking, hard contractions at the 5-1-1 mark and maybe your bloody show as a sign of labor.  Anything other than that could mean that labor is days away or weeks away.
This is how I am approaching it as a FTM as well. I have been having waaaay more than 6 BH per hour, but nothing painful, no bloody show, and water is still in tact. I will be 36 weeks on Sunday and at this point if they keep happening, oh well. Baby is still active and I feel ok. I have a job where I am up and down on my feet a lot and there isn't a whole lot I can do to adjust my activity. Maybe this baby will come earlier than I think? Are BH contractions any indication of an earlier labor?

  • @midwestbaby - Sadly, no BH are not a sign.  Its really just if you're having long contractions that increase in frequency/intensity or your water breaks.  As a third time mom, I'm having some BH especially when I'm up and down with the other kids but it means nothing :(

  • @ThisisNumber3 I figured as much. It just stinks because they make me feel so out of breath and slightly sick to my stomach. I keep telling myself just another month and I'm done.

That is what I'm trying to tell myself. My biggest concern was not knowing whether I was having more BH or if I was having contractions. I'm sure I'll be able to tell when the times comes but until then it makes me nervous haha. Baby knows when he wants to come I'm just trying to let him do his thing! :)

I felt like that at 35 weeks. Now, at 38 weeks, I want baby out. IMMEDIATELY. So, it can definitely change as you get closer :)

I feel ya! I am not dilated at all (as of Monday; just hit 38 weeks yesterday), baby was still high, and cervix was softening but that is about it. But I want baby out! I take comfort in the fact that my cousin was dilated to a 3 or 4 about 3 weeks before her due date--and I think she delivered maybe a couple days early? That's it. And I know other people who had checks that said no dilation and then they went into labor a day or two later. So, I just keep telling myself it could still happen any day now, regardless of what the checks say.

My midwife today said the average first time mom goes 7-10 days past their due date. So I'm trying to think of the 10 days late as the expected arrival. It's hard. I'm so anxious. (37 weeks tomorrow, so still a long way to go!)
  • 35 weeks today and as much as I want her out I'll have to deal with it if I go late. I am trying really hard to mentally prepare but it's hard. My fiance wants her to wait until after the weekend before so we can make sure to go to a festival downtown and I'm in agreement with him so that'll keep me prepared for the next 4 weeks but after that I have a feeling I'll be really impatient. She'll come when she's ready though, I refuse to be induced for anything other than an emergency so I could go to 42 weeks easy.

Sure! If I can figure out where I got it from! The only thing I can think of is prenatal yoga... Otherwise this attitude is so not like me!

My DH was laughing at me yesterday because I was so impatient with someone who was taking too long to pay at the convenient store, yet I seem to have all the patience in the world for baby. I just know she will be here soon regardless I guess :)

  • Now that the nursery is complete, clothes washed, and bags packed I am looking for other things to keep me busy for the next month. Anyone have any odd ball ideas of last minute things I could do to baby prep and keep my brain occupied?

I cleared out my phone storage to make room for the baby photos/videos I know I will be taking once she is here. I also finished my shower thank you cards and am printing recipes for freezer meals I will start preparing tomorrow. I have Monday and Tuesday off and know I should probably just sit back and relax and enjoy the quiet, but I have a hard time sitting still. I'm not much of a movie or television watcher.

    Stuck in a box

    @midwestbaby

Set up storage plan or donate plan for outgrown clothes

    research infant sleep methods

Research starting solids (usually around 6 months)

Find books or podcasts or books on tape for while home with baby or during late night feedings.

Have a a place for maternity clothes to go when you're done with them.

Eta - when doing freezer meals don't forget about planning some snacks, breakfasts and lunches.

  • @ThisisNumber3 adding some of these to my list :)

  • @midwestbaby we've just been trying to do things around the house that we know wouldn't get done once LO arrives. Cleaning out cluttered areas, staying on top of housework and laundry just in case something happens before my RCS.

We've pretty much run out of things to do now so we are just trying to enjoy the last 2 1/2 weeks of being a family of 3. That's the best advice I can give, you'll never get this time with your DH back before you have your baby. Enjoy going to a restaurant and not having to soothe a crying baby or entertain a toddler so they don't scream. Having DD is amazing but I wish I would've enjoyed those last few weeks instead of wishing them away, even though I'm doing the same thing now lol.

@midwestbaby This. I've assigned myself one area/room of the house for each week up until my due date and have been deep cleaning that area in my spare time (which isn't much because I already have a toddler at home). Baby won't care if it's done, but I know I won't have time after he's here and it really needs to be done! It's exhausting and not fun but it's keeping me busy. Last week was bathrooms, this week was basement, next week is living room and kitchen, etc.
