@lovelylauren86 that seems pretty quick but it's summer and hot almost everywhere so hopefully that's all it is. I would call so they can let you know if it's worth checking out or if it's something to just monitor at home. Better to be safe
I called. I'm supposed to go in first thing in the morning if they are still swollen. I'm up 5 lbs from this morning so that's somewhat concerning.
  • Loading the player...
  • @lovelylauren86 Oh dear :( I hope everything is alright... 5 lbs in less than 24 hours is definitely concerning. I would go in first thing tomorrow, and if you notice further swelling tonight, go in immediately.

@RG1 I love BG pockets. You can stuff them with almost anything - prefolds (love grovia bamboo), flour sack towels, flats and there are all sorts of inserts designed for pockets (microfiber is the most comment but they're also made of natural fibers.)

@lovelylauren86 Uh oh! How quickly does it seem to have come on or when did you notice it? I would call the after hours line. Doesn't it always seems like this stuff happens after hours and on weekends?
Well they were fine this morning but we're pretty huge by 5 pm
Were you on your feet for much of the day?
    Eat too much salty food?

Id give it overnight to see if the swelling goes down while your feet are up. If not, then I might call.

@AmMcc12 we have a Baby Jogger City Mini GT. It's not technically a jogger but I've ran with it for 18 months. They have an attachment you can buy to fit car seats, and it worked with our Chicco Keyfit.

Are there any jogging strollers compatible with Chicco Key Fit other than the Chicco brand strollers?
    *lurking from october*

I ordered a BOB and they have a conversion kit for the Chicco to fit for an extra $60. If you want a true running stroller, I would go with that.
  • @AmMcc12 if you want a true jogging stroller for running, the baby joggers aren't recommended. Like PP said, the Bob, or other joggers should have an adaptor you can buy for your car seat. Almost all of them will have one for the Chicco
  • @lovelylauren86 If it was over the course of the day I wouldn't worry about it.  Mine look fine in the morning and are sausages by night.  Hope yours are better today!

@AmMcc12 ditto to what other posters said.  There are lots of options for jogging strollers and most have chicco adapters since its such a popular seat. But I don't know how early you're supposed to jog with baby (head control), I know some of the moms in my son's group were advised to wait until like 6 months or something but I don't know if it's different in an infant seat vs just the stroller.

Thank you ladies. Today will be a day of researching strollers and whether we need a jogger right away (with or without the car seat) or if it an wait. We aren't avid joggers but do go hiking and of the paved path a lot and that's why we are looking at joggers

ETA @lovelylauren86 hope things are better today!!

Bob strollers would be great for off road! Expensive...very expensive but great strollers. You might start looking on local Facebook garage sale sites and craigslist!

If you aren't actually jogging I would say pass on the jogging stroller. They're very heavy and expensive. You could probably get away with a city mini GT or some comparable model, which would handle paved paths and be light and portable enough to also use indoors.

If you're into hiking generally I would reccomend baby wearing.

I would go hiking on the path you plan on doing frequently and creep around and see what other strollers people are using.

  • @MrsVoorhees I thought it was pretty funny when I got my Baby Jogger City Mini in the mail with my first and it said in huge letters on the box "This stroller not intended for jogging".....what's with the name then ?!?

    I know!!!! So misleading!!
  • @AmMcc12 We have a Baby Jogger City Select to go with our Chicco Keyfit Zip car seats.  They have an adapter that fits the Keyfit (and a bunch of other car seats).  It's a jogging stroller.

When we got ours, the adapter was almost impossible to find, but it looks like it's available again now.

  • @AmMcc12 we have the city select also.  I love it for multiple kids, but would probably go with something smaller and lighter for just one.  We used to have a britax b agile and the city select is a straight up tank compared to the britax.  It pushes easily and would probably be fine on a gravel path but not anything rustic.

  • @AmMcc12 Apparently it's not a jogger.  Pregnancy brain must be getting to me.  We haven't put it together yet (MIL bought it back in March), so I was mis-remembering the front wheels as being a single wheel.  I'm sorry!

So, no, no dirt trails!  There's no way the front wheels would handle it.

I'm actually pretty disappointed now.  I would've sworn I picked out an actual jogging stroller and was really looking forward to having one.  I don't really know what I was thinking asking for a standard 4-wheeler. :frowning:

  • Baby Jogger used to only sell one baby jogging stroller when they first started, and it was when the jogging stroller market was new. They expanded into non-jogging strollers, which became their most popular line, but mantained the name. That's why your "Baby Jogger City Mini GT" is not actually a jogging stroller but your "Baby Jogger Summit" is.

Isn't the different between a jogging stroller and non-jogging stroller the ability to lock the front wheel into place? Is that the only difference?

Jogging strollers tend to be three wheeled. The wheels tend to be quite a bit bigger to absorb more shock. (Usually they're inflatable like bike tires) And they have a wrist strap to wear to connect the stroller to the jogger. They tend to sacrifice small size, and light weight for stability and durability.

I have a jogger but don't and never will jog. It is not heavy at all and the wheels come off to make it fold down pretty flat. I would never have a regular stroller again. The joggers move so much nicer even on black top then the standard. Over all smooth ride and easy to move win me over.
  • drmh22drmh22 member
@KimmySchmidt that's pretty much what I thought. Mine city mini GT is 3 wheeled and rubber tires. No shocks, but I only run through my neighborhood on sidewalks or paved paths at parks, so that's probably why it's worked so well for us.

I was opposite. Started off with the jogger thinking I'd prefer smooth handling, when really my strongest preferences are for light weight and easy fold. I just ended leaving the jogger set up in the garage to push around on neighborhood walks, and I bought the city mini to use for everything else because its half the weight and folds with one hand.

Agreed with @KimmySchmidt We bought a jogger back in April (without the intention to actually jog with it) and when we put it together, we were very disappointed with the size and weight of it. We ended up returning it and getting the Graco Modes Click Connect and find its so light weight and easy to fold. Much happier!

Our friends just lost their baby to SIDS :( I've been searching the internet reading everything I can about it and hoping to take every safety precaution I can to keep this little guy safe. Some articles claim it's not safe to have anything between the mattress and sheet. Does this mean mattress pads are not recommended? I'm planning on using a tight thin mattress pad for our bassinet. Does anyone worry about this? I've read some contradicting things and now I'm just being paranoid.
  • ashtasht member
Not always but I tend to think when it comes to SIDS there is usually something underlying nobody knew about. I have always used a water protect pad in the crib and a cover on the bassinet. For sure needs to be tight where nothing can bunch up. This includes no blankets, no bumpers, no stuffed animals and following proper guidelines of sleep position. I don't think I have my daughter blankets to sleep with until she was close to a year. I would give them to her at nap time where I could watch her and even then she would pull them over her head.

somethings happen with no explanation and the less things we do that can leave use second guessing ourselves the better.
  • @mom2adoodle I am so sorry for your friends.  That is a massive fear of mine, and my chest constricted reading your post.  From what I researched, a thin, tight mattress pad (like one to protect against overnight leaks) is fine, but the padded ones for making the crib softer shouldn't be used for a while.

Oh no!! I am so so sorry to hear that! How horrifying! How old was the baby? What was the circumstance?! This is such a nightmare of mine!
  • @Sbrown721 We don't have much information yet. It feels weird asking via text you know? But baby was around 3 months :(
  • That's absolutely terrifying @mom2adoodle so sorry to hear about it. :( I cannot even imagine!
  • So sorry to hear about your friends baby, @mom2adoodle. They are in my prayers. So incredibly sad.
  • drmh22drmh22 member
@mom2adoodle I'm so sorry for their loss. It's an extremely scary thing. Thin tight mattress pads should be fine, but like @Jabreen said the more quilted ones are not recommended at first.
  • @mom2adoodle extremely sorry for your friends. Just keep the crib as minimalistic as possible for as long as you can. Mattress pads and fitted sheets are insanely tight on our crib,  and the crib mattress is pretty hard, that way if baby rolls when young they can still breathe facedown. You'll be ok, the paranoia will subside for you I hope although it can be extremely difficult.

  • did anyone discuss their birth plan with their doc yet? If so, how did it go?
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo She hasn't seen it per say, but we have talked about my preferences since day 1! However, she's not guaranteed to be at my delivery (it's whoever is on call) so I'm hoping she helps me formulate it in a way that is easily read and respected. Thankfully a lot of the procedures I'm hoping for are standard at the hospital but she is writing in my wishes in my medical record just in case. She's even more granola than I am (nurse mid wife) so she's all in no matter what weirdness I ask about haha.

Hey ladies- my stomache has been REALLY uncomfortable/painful today. It's mostly my upper abdomen. It feels like baby is stretching me out. Anything to be worried about or completely normal?
  • @Ah825 I, too, have been feeling very "stretched out" lately.  But for me it is more around the middle of my belly and stretching to each side.  Is your pain constant or does it come and go?  Do you feel sick at all when it happens?  It's really hard to say what it could be...if it's been going on long enough to have you questioning/worrying, it can't hurt to call the doctor and see what they say...
