  • @holly142 Thank you for posting that article! My LO hasn't wanted to be put down much and I personally don't mind. I have been soaking up all the snuggles with him!
  • C-Section mamas: my steri strips haven't fallen off yet, and I'm 2 weeks + 1 day pp. Should I just take them off at this point or leave them on? They don't look like they're falling off on their own anytime soon.
  • @jlmartinez517- my steri strips don't look close to falling off either. I got them at 5 days PP and I am now 16 days PP. I am leaving mine on but wishing they were off.
  • @jlmartinez517 @holly142 my doctor told me I had to take them off myself. I took them off at 8 days PP in the shower and it was amazing. I felt a ton better. When I had asked if I could just leave them on and let them fall off themselves she said definitely not. Yours told you to just leave them?
  • @jlmartinez517 how does the incision look? Any areas that look like they may be a bit open still? I haven't had a c section but I'm a nurse and I put on steri strips. We tell people to keep them on until they fall off. I know from experience surgeons are very particular so you may hear different opinions. You may just have skin that loves adhesive and will actually need to take them off yourself.

  • @theshannondee @sboston06 my surgeon said to take them off at 2 weeks if they didn't fall off, I was just curious if I could leave them on for a few days and see if they'd fall off. They're pretty stuck. I definitely have skin that loves adhesive - I got a tape burn while still in the hospital from the original bandage that was over top the steri strips. I guess I'll peel them off tomorrow morning in the shower!
  • @jlmartinez517 glad your surgeon gave you some advice upfront! And I'm glad to know for future reference :)

  • The nurse said to leave the steri strips on until they fall off. I asked how long they normally stay on for and she said about 10 days. It's been 11 days and still on tight.
  • What is everyone keeping in their diaper bags at all times and how are you keeping it all organized in there? I was given a gently used Vera diaper bag early on in my pregnancy and while it has a bunch of pockets for smaller items, I feel like everything else just ends up thrown in there and I have to dig around forever to find what I'm looking for. Kind of like when you carry a too big purse with an excessive amount of stuff in it. It's like a bottomless pit.
  • @jjtruffles- in the outside pockets I have my wallet, phone, hand sanitizer and car key. In the inside pockets I have burp rag, brush, extra outfits, hat, diapers and travel wipes. In the big middle part I have a nursing cover and a Zip-lock with DD's (2 1/2) extra pants, underwear and paper towels in case I need to clean up pee somewhere.
  • @jjtruffles in the small outside pockets I have a spare phone charger, breast pads, a pen, hand sanitizer, my phone, and hand cream. In the side pockets I have a water bottle, a small spray bottle with a homemade wipe solution in it, and my keys. In the back pocket I have the changing pad and my planner. On the inside I have diapers, a jar of saturated cloth wipes, a stack of dry wipes, two spare diaper covers, a burp cloth, a bib, a swaddle, and the wet bag in the main area. In the small pockets inside I have extra snappis, a hat, a spare outfit, a pair of socks, and a pacifier. Oh and snacks for me! Can't forget the snacks!
  • @jjtruffles we have a diaper bag organizer and it's amazing. I bought it off amazon for like $10. Inside we keep: extra clothes for him, diapers, wipes, butt paste, wubbanub and paci-wipes, burp cloth, extra swaddle, changing pad, diaper trash bags, a wet bag, and my milk snob. Outside pockets I have my wallet and phone, hand sanitizer, Chapstick, his bottle if we bring one. We have the Marc Jacobs bag (which I love the look but would not recommend) and it's totally a bottomless pit with no pockets inside. I can't recommend the diaper bag organizer enough!
  • My diaper bag has three large sections. One I have my planner, wallet, granola bar, and cell phone. The big middle section has two interior pockets.  I keep diapers in one and wipes in the other. I also have a burp cloth, wet bag, and my nursing cover in that section. The third section I keep a change of clothes for her in a travel bag, an extra shirt for me, nursing pads, and her pacifier in the zippered pocket. Big outside pocket has a changing pad, and the smaller outside zippered pocket has my Chapstick, hand sanitizer and lotion.
  • How often are you guys seeing a pediatrician in these early days? We had a 2 week check up but then our next one isn't going to be until he's 8 weeks... That seems weird to me?
  • @rakel88 That's what we're set up for also. My doctor kindly said if we ever have questions or urgencies in the meantime not to hesitate to email or schedule additional visits but standard is 2 then 8 week I guess! And the 8 week comes with shots.
  • @rakel88 Ours is set up to be the same. 2 week and 8 week. Seems like a long time to worried parents but I think it's the standard.
  • @rakel88 Still pregnant and lurking. Our ped does more appt.s than is standard. They do the 3-5 day nb one, then every month until 6 mos. with DD I think I brought her in again even at 6 weeks because I was worried about weight gain between her miserable colic and horrendous reflux.

  • My pediatrician does a 2 week visit and then a 1 month + 5 days...so weird but I guess I'm glad that it's relatively soon!
  • @rakel88 we have a 2 week, 1 month then 2 month scheduled right now. We might just have a 1 month apt because he was jaundice and was in the hospital a few extra days and they want to check his levels at 1 month.
  • @rakel88 we were set up for the standard 3 days after hospital discharge, 2 weeks, and then 8 weeks. But I told my pedi that I've been having anxiety about him not gaining weight (even though so far he's done great) and she offered to let us have another check up at 4 weeks too which I graciously accepted.
  • Our pediatrician does 2, 4, and 8 weeks. I think then it goes 4, 6, 9, and 12 months. It was the same with my son.

  • @rakel88 ours did a check-up within the first week, then 2 weeks, and 8 weeks. It seems like a long time between appointments, but they said to call if anything seems off or if we have any questions/concerns.
  • Same for us @rakel88 We did have an extra one in there due to circumcision postcheck but otherwise nothing until 8 weeks!
  • @rakel88- we had a 1 week appointment and then will have a 1 month appointment.
  • Yup, we aren't seeing the doctor until 8 weeks also.
  • I apologize if this has been discussed here or another thread, I tried to search, but had no luck.

Are any of you using apps to track info?  I'd like something for breastfeeding, but I think it would be helpful if one app could track that, diaper output and other info (weight, symptoms, ???).

  • Hm sounds like it's pretty standard.. We also had the 2-3 day post discharge appointment.
I was just thinking that so much could happen in those 6 weeks between appointments, and that's a long time of not knowing whether he's gaining appropriately. And when I told my mom she was shocked!
  • @megstervt with DD I used an app called baby connect. It cost me a few dollars, but I liked the functionality. You can record everything- set timers for how long they ate and from which side if breastfeeding, how long they slept, how long you pumped, diapers, etc. DH can also download the app and it'll keep him updated throughout the day!

  • @megstervt
Im using Glow Baby. It tracks feedings, diaper changes and other symptoms.
  • @rakel88 our LC had an open door policy for us to come in and weigh him. We've done so weekly because I'm bored at home and sorta obsessed with how much he's gaining for no reason but curiosity. Maybe your pediatrician would let you come in and just weigh him?
@megstervt I used the app below. It was called baby daybook now it's baby nursing. It tracks a ton it's the best I've found. I no longer need it now but definitely recommend it.

  • @rakel88 We had a pedi appt the day after we left the hospital (our practice likes to see BF babies the day after for weight check) and we have another one this week at the 8-10 days old. We then have a visit at 5 weeks and then 9 weeks ( I was able to schedule all of these at our appt last week).
  • As I mentioned above, we went in for an extra weight check because I was worried, but we were charged for a visit. :-/

  • Anyone having sciatic and hip pains postpartum? I had serious pain issues during the pregnancy but the last few days I've been having really bad pain that feels like my sciatic nerve is still being pinched but it's also wrapping around into my left hip, especially when I walk.

    Not cool body, not cool.
  • @stellaluna14 Yep, my sciatic nerve has been super irritated lately too, and I feel like my hips are trying to readjust to not being pregnant. Eventually we'll feel normal again..right?

  • @MDmomma1217 yea we had a 2 day weight check also at the breastfeeding clinic, and then the 2 weeks.
@theshannondee boo, I wish ours did. You need to make an appointment for everything with ours, which I'm tempted to do. I mean, I can tell a difference in him for sure but it would still be nice to just know.
