If your two year old kneed you real good in the placenta, at what point do you worry?
asking for a friend.
Probably not until there's cause for concern (bleeding/cramping/lack of movement). Baby is pretty well cushioned in there, I know my 2yo has taken some jabs at my belly. As always, if concerned it won't hurt to call the doc.
I'm a noob when it comes to strollers. With the travel systems (in particular we are now looking at the Graco Mode), the car seat is an infant seat, meaning we'd have to buy a new car seat to covert to toddler, correct? And at this point, the child then just sits in the stroller instead of being in the car seat in the stroller, right?
I'm trying to figure out if it's cheaper to just buy the stroller and the convertible car seat right off the bat than to buy the travel system. But now I'm starting to think the convertible car seats don't click into the stroller or else everyone would do that because it seems cheaper.
@RG1 correct, the convertible seat stays installed into your car at all times. For us, it was well worth the money to get the infant seat to be able to bundle baby up in the winter inside (coats, etc aren't safe under car seat straps) or be able to move them when they fall asleep.
@RG1 Also a FTM, but from all my research I haven't found a convertible that clicks in either. The ones I've seen actually all stay in the car, and aren't used as infant carriers either. For me, I know we'll likely need to upgrade to a toddler seat before the end-of-life of the infant seat, but I think the convenience of not having to unbuckle a sleeping infant will make it worthwhile. BTDT moms, feel free to correct me, though!
@RG1 my SIL tried to go with a convertible car seat right off the bat in one of their cars and even though it had a 4 pound minimum, he didn't fit comfortably (it was too big). They have to use their infant seat in both cars. Not to say it can't be done, that was just her experience. You are correct though, the convertibles don't click into the strollers
@mamadomino@Jabreen@Thscary Thanks guys One more question - if you buy just a stroller and a convertible seat (so no infant seat), how does LO go in the stroller as an infant, or that's not a possibility?
Judging by my stroller (graco fast action jogger) you either click in the infant seat or the child has to sit upright. So I don't know how you'd put an infant in without the seat. Not sure if all the other strollers are the same
@RG1 BTDT mom here, totally get the travel system!! It is worth it to be able to pop baby out of the car, still sleeping and into the stroller, then back in the car after, still asleep.
If if you were to get a stroller and convertible, you would need a stroller with a seat that could lay flat.
But seriously, travel system. You won't regret it. We had the Graco Click Connect Sport and Click Connect 30 seat and loved it. We will still use the seat this time but went to a City Select double stroller because OMG two kids...
Y'all rock. I'd seriously be so lost without your advice and I'd be buying all the wrong things. Well, I did buy the wrong stroller (crappy Baby Trend Expedition) and we went to BRU today and told them it sucks and I want my money back. They said they would, even though its past 45 days and we already set it up, "because its such a bad product". LOL why carry it then? I'll definitely do more research and asking around before big purchases like that!
Same as @MrsVoorhees. We had the graco travel system and it was great. I can't tell you how many times I brought the infant seat in from the car with baby asleep and just let him keep napping in it in the house. I'm also getting the city select now that I'll have two little ones.
If I had it to do over, I'd just get the city select from the get go and get an infant car seat (they can all click into the city select with an adapter). Then when/if you have a second kid, you can use the infant seat for the baby and the stroller seat for the oldest (and later get a second stroller seat for number two). It saves you buying a double stroller down the road.
@RG1 we put DD in our city mini GT from infancy by reclining it all the way back. I had the adaptor to put the car seat on it, but didn't like how bulky it was for our long walks and I returned it. I did snag a cheap used snap and go from Craigslist for the back of the car for when we didn't want to wake her.
No not particularly but something that will hold up with long walks. We go an hour a day
Check out the City Mini GT, I think you would like it! It's kind of expensive, plus you have to buy all the stuff that's usually standard on a stroller like the snack tray and the parents console, but it's a great "all terrain" stroller. The city select is great too if you know youll have your second soon after the first, but it is pretty heavy for a single stroller which kind of stinks. I loved our Graco fast action fold sport. It was great for walks around the neighborhood too and much cheaper than the city mini. Definitely check out the GT though if you look at the City Mini, much better wheels and worth the extra $$
Aren't generic Target brand diapers the best price? Are generic Target wipes the best price for wipes?
Yes, but you can sometimes find huggies for cheaper for the smaller sizes. They didn't fit our baby well, and we have been happy with target brand diapers. However, the wipes suck. And the range of price in wipes is very small. Almost all of them are $0.02/wipe. We've used huggies, pampers, and Amazon elements and they've all been fine.
I know this was commented on a different thread a while back but is anyone making/bringing anything for the nurses? If so, what and how many? I might or might not, just not sure yet.
@frogdog06 Diapers, wipes, diaper cream, spare outfit, and my wallet are the absolute essentials. When she was smaller we included burp clothes. Now we also bring a sippy and snack with us.
@frogdog06 All that @camichael84 said plus plastic grocery bags (never know when you'll be taking home wet or poop-splosion clothes). We also always kept one small receiving blanket - they come in handy for random things!
@rg1 We're going with the Chicco Viaro, which isn't a jogger, but it is a 3-wheel and felt pretty sturdy in the store! I liked the City Mini GT a lot, but the $800 price tag vs $350 for the Chicco was too much for us to jump on.

We really liked the graco modes because it folds SO small when you have the infant seat. You just take the infant seat out and the frame folds in half. It does the same with the regular stroller part (not with the infant seat) either folding just the frame if you take out the seat or folds pretty small even with the seat. It was impressive and $650 (Canadian) which was decent. Not tooooo much

@AlwaysAuntNeverMom We're going to make some cupcakes and maybe bring in a cheese tray if we remember. Honestly, bring anything and they'll love it, I speak from experience. We've had families bring us everything from DQ ice cream bars to donuts to lasagna's. Free food is always awesome.
@Megan324Thats really weird. I could see doing that if your uterus was just hanging out, not doing anything after but what's the point if yours is taking care of it naturally? Just let my body do its thing.

Yes, and I would add that dog poop bags are great for this task. More compact than stuffing grocery bags somewhere.
With regard to diaper bag, all the essentials and when I was super organized, a clean shirt for me. Because you never know when poop, spit up or boob leakage is going to happen.

I believe so. Plus, there are almost always cartwheel deals. Plus, there are often deals where if you buy two big boxes, you get a gift card. We were a big fan.
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom we probably won't think to make something ahead of time so will be having my husband grab an edible arrangement or boxes of munchkins and box o joe, etc. I delivered at a smaller hospital, maybe 10 l&d rooms, and say probably a dozen nurses over the 2 days I was there

@AlwaysAuntNeverMom
Is this standard everywhere or just here?
@yellowrose314 I was thinking of goody bags. Any idea how many we'd need?
Apparently everyone gets it to help the uterus go back down and it helps with bleeding.
ETA @AlwaysAuntNeverMom yup! I just didn't know it was like a standard everyone gets it you can't say no type of deal
