Thanks everyone! I need to go back to motherhood maternity and try on some jeans I think so I have an idea on size before ordering online. I know they say whatever size you were before you got pregnant, but I feel like sizes are still all over the place depending. I wish our old navy had maternity in store!
For old navy You could try on regular jeans and not button then to see what fits your legs and then order the same size in maternity online the size I ordered was spot on with what I normally wear. And if they are not right you can still return them to the store.
I always found the best Maternity clothes at Ross lol but their stuff is cheapie like forever 21, but for me it worked because I usually don't like the same clothes the next pregnancy anyway!
@emy730 I can't find them. It was 2 years ago. Hoping they still have them. Mossimo brand. I think I paid $10 or $12 for them. They fold over and have wild patterns on the top.
I always went to Gap with my first. I actually just went today and got tons more clothes! I got workout stretchy cute clothes today, and a few maternity pieces for when I really need them. I am 14 w 1 d.
Macy's online sells Destination Maternity clothing (the clothing from Motherhood stores). I just bought a pair of black dress pants, tan dress pants, and red skinny jeans on sale. Two of the pair were under $20. Their tops were on sale too, many for around $14. Kohls is great online, but forget finding anything in the store (or at least that is how my store is stocked). Target is okay, but their sizes run super big.
I am about 6' tall, so being pregnant makes clothes shopping even more difficult than normal. If anyone else needs 35" inseams or longer for their pants, I recommend rgmaternity.com I have also recently signed up with Stitch Fix. In my June box, I received a maternity maxi, another formal maternity dress, and a maternity skirt (I asked for dresses since I have 3 weddings in the next few months). You don't know exactly what you are going to get, but that is half the fun for me! Here's a link if anyone is interested: https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/8336255
I'm really hoping Ross has some good clothes! I'm not showing yet, just feel a little extra 'full'/bloated. My grandmother is retired from Ross, and today she has a %40 off discount that she can share with family. I'm about to go stock up on some maternity clothes!
And PJs. Because omg I wake up so hot at night!! I feel like I need to sleep in paper thin shirts....
I actually ordered some things from Pink Blush Maternity. They are a little pricey but if you sign up for their mailing list they are always having sales of some sort. They also have an awesome plus size selection (I think Motherhoods plus size leaves a lot to be desired). I also found a pair of skinny jeans on Zulily for $15 but they take forever to ship. No idea if they will fit but I ordered a pair from Motherhood that was in line with my prepregnancy size and they were huge. Pants are the hardest for me, especially for plus sizes. I like Old Navy and Target because even if you order online you can return to the store, unfortunately they don't carry much for plus sizes.
My jeans from Zulily shipped this morning so hopefully I'll have a report on that brand soon. Downside is you can't return items to Zulily so you don't want to spend much on a guess.
@Carly79 Pink Blush Maternity is going to leave me penniless in a dumpster because I can't seem to control myself. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
I second waiting for a good sale. I bought a lot of stuff during their sitewide 25% off sale, and the discount applied to their clearance section too. I got a few dresses (one for a wedding in August) and some awesome tops that are cut in such a way that they look cute even when you're not pregnant! Also, I got a pair of skinny jeans there and they fit SO WELL. I'm talking better than some of my regular jeans, and they were maybe $40. Not super cheap, but not super expensive either.
I told my husband today that I want my materinty box from the garage. I think I have a few more weeks before I need it, but I really liked a lot of the shirts I got last time. I am looking forward to getting more than just a few months of wear this time around.
I've mostly been wearing maxi dresses, so glad its summertime and I can get away with wearing just them for the most part. My MIL brought a present over for me a week after we announced the pregnancy, a bag of Old Navy maternity clothes that she picked up for me because she was so excited lol. The maternity yoga pants are the most comfortable things I've ever worn! I checked Target but sadly their selection did not have much that caught my eye. I should be good with my maxi's and the maternity clothes I have now till Fall time so I'm really hoping Target will come out with some nice things by then.
Theyre all nursing tanks/tees/jackets, but marketed for maternity wear too--supposedly the fabrics are stretchy/bounce back. I like their style of nursing access WAY better than Old Navy, for instance, with their weird half shirt seam. Has anyone seen/used these?
DD1 (2008) DD2 (2010), #3 (DH's first bio kid) on the way in January 2017! Almost always mobile bumping--forgive my typos.
My pink blush order came in (all tops and dresses) and everything was TTS for my pre-pregnancy size, but the tops with sewn empire waists are a little tighter than I would've thought (still fit, I'm not returning them, but I wonder if massive breastfeeding boobs will fit...? We'll see!)
I ordered two things from Pink Blush, one of them I'm wearing right now and it's awesome but the other was a maxi dress and I was kind of shocked by the length of it... I have very long legs and there was easily 2" of extra dress pooled at my feet. Anyone have experience with taking maternity clothing to a tailor? Do I want to make sure they don't take off too much so there's enough material to cover the bump once it gets bigger? How does that even work?
I ordered a few things in the gap sale and loved 3/4. They seem like items I could easily wear post baby if I ever want a slightly loose shirt (I wear about 75% gap). I haven't ordered any maternity bottoms yet though. That's the next fronteir.
@canavara Have you tried washing it? I have this problem with Old Navy maxi dresses, they are too long (but I'm not tall by any means). However, once I wash once or twice they usually end up being the right length. I haven't tried having any clothes tailored but if it's too long both front and back I would think if you take it up the same amount (more based on the length in the back) that you should be ok (just guessing though).
@susykat77 I got mine at Target. I love it. To be honest I couldn't find one anywhere else. I am a plus sized girl so I don't online shop. I'm so scared things won't fit when I get them.
For people who have yard/garage sales in the area or even consignment shops, don't forget to check those out for maternity clothes. We have a baby shop here in town and last night they did a mini garage sale type thing where women could pay $5 and come and set up a table and sell their baby stuff, maternity clothes, cloth diapers, carriers, basically anything baby related. Free admittance to shoppers. They had about 14 ladies selling stuff and I found 2 pairs of jeans, a pair of work pants, a dress, a nursing top (that doubles as a maternity top) and 2 shirts for my son all for $25. Sometimes it's hit or miss with these types of sales depending on sizes you are looking for but they are worth checking out.
@streulim I totally get that, I am plus size too and just not thrilled with a lot of my choices in store. I try to limit my online shopping to places where I can return in store (best case scenario) or where I can return for free via the mail. Old Navy and Target online are great because you can return to the store (even if your Old Navy doesn't carry maternity). Amazon usually has pretty good return policies depending on who fulfills the order.
I am in Canada and 15 weeks tomorrow ...I have used Old Navy Gap and Pink Blush so far. Pink Blush my order was $140 and I ended up paying $30 duty which is ridiculous so that will be my last order sadly. I loved all my stuff though
I have been blessed and had a lot gifted to me second hand so I have only needed basics so far and one nice pair of gap jeans and shorts. I think I will utilize Gap the most during online sales as there stuff fits the best
@Kristalyn85 How many items from your fix did you end up liking/keeping? I'm curious how the maternity selection compares to the regular selection. I just paused my SF until post pregnancy because I wasn't sure about the maternity selection and didn't want to waste $20. Plus I do have a fair amount of maternity stuff any way. I already miss getting it
Resurrecting this thread! Anyone have suggestions for comfy and cheaper lounge/gym shorts? I've been wearing my husbands big basketball shorts around the house but my normal Nike running shorts when we walk the dogs and stuff like that, but I'm pretty tired of squeezing into them! Not necessarily anything maternity style but just something comfy and that would work well the rest of pregnancy and postpartum!
@aels12 I don't know if they still make them but I've been wearing some "foldover" style shorts from Victoria's Secret that are unintentionally a godsend to pregnant women... they have a front panel that normally you just fold down over the rest of the short but if you have a bump, they're loose and stretchy enough to cover your bump.
Totally going to embarrass the hell out of myself showing what I'm talking about haha... but... how they're normally worn, with the front folded down... looks great if you're not sporting a bump:
How you can wear them while pregnant--I'm not sure they'll last until 40 weeks, but they have enough stretch that I can see them going to weeks 32-36 maybe:
ETA: There's definitely a bunch of these style pants on their site, I would not be shocked if they had a bunch of the shorts on clearance in stores at the moment since it's end of summer.
@canavara I've been doing the same fold up with VS yoga pants! I might need some of those shorts though. My pjs have been getting a lot of love lately.
@aels12 My go to for pajamas are old school champion cheerleading shorts (I think Target carries them in the summer? They're lower cut so I just fold the waistband once to stay under my belly- they're super comfy! (I've had at least 3 pair at any given moment for the last 18-ish years)
Not really maternity clothes related but bra related. I had a favorite underwire bra that still fit and worked and wasn't uncomfortable that I wore pretty much every day. This weekend I was doing something and the underwire broke so the bra is done. I have been wearing some of my non-underwire bras that I purchased the last pregnancy but they are too small this time around. I need like a 42DD, any suggestions on comfortable bras and where to get them? I'm still open to underwires as I really enjoy the support they provide but a good non-underwire one is always a possibility too.
