I gave him a pacifier on day 4 because he was fussing and I knew he wasn't hungry but then later that day he really struggled to latch, which meant that I was convinced I broke him and cried until he finally latched. I haven't given it again.
@elenabrent same boat... Pacifier was the only change before Harper's nursing strike. Can't say for sure that's the reason but we aren't going to do pacifiers for at least a couple more weeks.
Anybody using baby wearing yet? I have an infantino mei tai but the instructions indicate it's for babies who weigh 8 pounds or more. Does anybody know of options for smaller babies?

I have a Boba wrap. The box says 0-36 months/7-35 lbs, however you can do the "newborn hold" according to the directions which is for babies 2-10 lbs. We are going to try it out tonight. Hope that helps!
@austinjl I used my Solly wrap for the first time today! Just around the house to try it, but gonna take my dogs for a walk in a bit with him in it. I know a bunch of people who have the Solly wrap and loved it for their newborns and it seems like it's kind of ideal for when they're that tiny.
I've been using my solly baby wrap I love it cause I'm hands free and my little guy loves it cause he's close to momma. Tried to give pacifier at night he refuses it.. Boo oh well!
@austinjl I'm also using a boba wrap... She generally doesn't like it for the first 5 minutes, but then she gets used to it and really settles down and seems happy! It helps to not put her head inside the wrap right away that seems to make her unhappy at first.
@austinjl I have the infantino mei tai wrap and have been using it for E the past week. He is over the 8lb mark and while I've heard others use it with smaller babies I wouldn't recommend it. I have used a K'Tan too and it seemed too loose to me for such a little guy... The solly looks interesting though...
I'll be testing our Baby K'tan tomorrow. Hopefully she likes it and it's easy/comfortable so we can use it while shopping instead of putting her car seat in a separate cart lol
I'm all sorts of freaked out about co-sleeping. The hospital is so dead set against it, but she doesn't want to sleep unless it's on one of us, and we have just given in because it's easier at this point. I tried putting her in her pack n play today, swaddled, with white noise, and leaving a hand on her tummy for a minute or two. She actually slept in there for 40 minutes! I'm hoping that if we just keep trying she'll get used to it. Any other suggestions on this? Part of me feels like the co-sleeping isn't that big of a deal in these early days, but the other part is terrified that it's going to make it that much harder to get her to sleep alone eventually.

@joleri23 it was really hard for us to figure out sleeping too. We tried cosleeping (scared me), RnP, swing, and PnP with bassinet. I found that what was most crucial for a good sleep was getting Elliott really milk drunk full and letting him fall asleep on my chest after a burp session. If I could get him into a deep sleep first then he was happy to be transferred to the bassinet. I have found too that his sleep struggles only lasted a week before sorting themselves out and getting a routine down. Everything changes so often with newborns it seems, hang in there!
Anyone that has lots of IV fluids and pitocin due to a long labor and/or c-section have extremely swollen legs and feet? I feel like I have tree trunks and the swelling is worse than when I was pregnant! Any tips on how to get rid of this quickly?
Thanks ladies! For swollen feet, I wore compression socks and drank lots of water. I'm 10 days pp and my left foot is back to normal and my right foot is close!

Haven't had my baby yet, but the size to mama is really important with the k'tan. If it feels too loose, then you should size down. I have used it with my newborn niece and when it fits you correctly, baby feels very secure in it. Even itty bitty babies.
@jlmartinez517 I had IV fluids and I noticed my feet and ankles were really swollen after which I thought was strange because I had no swelling at all during pregnancy. They've gone down quite a bit since then but not all the way.
@joleri23 We've had two nights at home now and have opted for cosleeping for the time being. There are safe ways to go about it if it's what you choose, but at the end of the day you have to do what makes you comfortable. Milo sleeps in his bassinet or our travel cosleeper during the day but at night with breastfeeding I just found it more comfortable for both of us to bed share. I don't know what will work in the future so I just take it day by day! You could try a cosleeper that goes in the bed with you there is a protected area but is still within reach. We have one and love it.
Our excitement of the day: my milk finally came I'm which resulted in multiple poop explosions, including a simultaneous poop/pee fountain explosion during a diaper change that resulted in both me and my husband getting caught in the cross fire. Needless to say, it was hilarious. Actually the highlight of my day.
@joleri23 My experience has been a lot like @theshannondee - food coma makes sleeping great. We've had great look with the rock and play and the pack and play newborn napper but I will say, only after meal and some time laying on one of us. We only do the transfer after we've got her down pretty well!!! Hope that helps!
@joleri23 we had issues sleeping the first few nights. Aubrey needs a paci to fall asleep but when she was in her RnP she kept flailing and knocking it out (even swaddled her arms got loose). Or she would start to fall asleep and it would fall out, waking her up. We ended up co-sleeping for a few nights before realizing that she is a side sleeper! We put her in the RnP on her side and her paci stays in longer and when it does fall out, she doesn't care. It also reduces her flailing arms. We just make sure the blanket is far enough down that it's nowhere near her face if she moves.
I've used the Lillebaby to take her outside and have my hands free while I take my son out to swing and play. It works pretty well, but I think she might be more comfortable in the Moby at this age and size (3 weeks and about 8 lbs.). I'm going to have to go down to the garage and figure out what plastic tote that's in because I didn't manage to locate it before she got here.
@jlmartinez517 My ankles are crazy swollen too since I was hooked up to fluids for so long. I haven't found a way to get the swelling down yet either, but it's only been a couple days.
Gross, but I haven't pooped since the morning I was induced...so like 5 days ago now. I'm kind of terrified it will undo any healing I've done down there when I do. Have all of you been doing stool softeners or is it not really that bad? Healing has been fine and I think I only tore a little, but no one at the hospital said anything about the first bowel movement after vaginal delivery....

@jlmartinez517- with DD I had terrible swelling that went down about 4 days postpartum. My doctor told me to drink lemon or lime water to help reduce swelling. One morning I woke up and could see my ankles again. It was amazing!
@winnie1122 they gave me stool softeners in the hospital every six hours and said I could continue them at home. The first poop was not a fun experience but the softeners made a difference for sure. Whatever you do, don't force anything! Good luck!
We have an arms reach cosleeper, which has been great. I also wait until he's fallen into a deep sleep on my chest after eating before putting him in there. We've had a few fussy nights where he's ended up in our bed, but I don't want to make a habit of it.
@austinjl@jlmartinez517 I was super swollen when I came home from the hospital and then from one day to the next it magically disappeared, about ten days in... hang in there!
We have a bassinet that hangs over the bed fortunately so far she's mostly been ok in it... swaddling does seem to help...
@winnie1122 I definitely took the softener... all the docs and nurses mentioned that it won't undo your healing, it might just be unpleasant... I found the anticipation to be worse than the actual thing!
@winnie1122 I finally went for the first time since giving birth yesterday. It actually wasn't that bad! The stool softeners are key though. My mom basically had to be my cheerleader that I could do it though.
My first pooping experience post-baby was on the first day home, so day 4? It's like my body knew I was home lol. I had a c-section so I wasn't so much worried about the condition of things downstairs as I was about my now lack of abdominal muscles and trying to push something out. It was not pleasant but I know the stool softeners helped lessen the blow so to speak. I felt great afterwards though!
As far as sleeping, I was so against co-sleeping. My husband and I move around a lot and I was mostly worried about this tiny baby being in bed with us and all the blankets and what not. We have a Boppy lounger which is one of the greatest things I think I own. Kind of like a flat baby beanbag pillow thing. She sleeps in it constantly and I don't have to worry about her rolling back and forth on it. I've been setting that in bed between us and she sleeps like a champ. I can easily lift her out to feed her versus the RnP which was so painful to lean over and pick her up out of bed because it was so much shorter than our bed height. We will switch back to the RnP once she's sleeping longer stretches and I don't feel like my insides are going to fall out.
To everyone concerned about pooping after delivery - I had my husband pick up a few packs of prunes (regular dried prunes, chocolate covered dried plums, cherry flavored prunes - all delicious). I snacked on these while I was admitted after my csection and may have gone over board slightly. Pooping was not a problem and the prunes definitely helped get things moving after the surgery. Good luck
Speaking of pooh issues, has anyone had to change their first blowout?! Omg. Unknowingly my husband took her into a bathroom to change, thinking it would be routine only to discover pooh everywhere!!! LOL All we could do was laugh. Since then she's had even a couple more. Cleansing that system I guess!!!!
@TiffRox81 hah! We had our first blow out this weekend... I was snuggling him and suddenly my jeans were wet and there was to a visible poop all up his back and everywhere. We laughed and had to cut the onesie off it was so bad. He went right into the bath after that one. I've also managed to get peed on more than I'd like to admit. One would think after the first time I would put something over him but no....it took several times.
@TiffRox81 no blowouts yet but we are getting close. She has the loudest audible farts/pooping I've ever heard lol. I just wait it out until I think it's safe to change her. There's a fine line between thinking she's filling her diaper up and deciding it's safe to peak inside.
@TiffRox81 we had our first real blowout last night. She's gotten a little bit of poop on her pjs a couple times, but last night was bad. One side of her pjs was totally covered in poop and she got some on her mattress. We were a little scared to check the actual diaper, which wasn't even that bad!
How's everyone's appetite post-partum? Especially with breastfeeding, I was expecting to be constantly hungry and eating (I've always had a massive appetite, before pregnancy too), but I'm totally lacking.. I get really hungry, but then start eating and can't even come close to eating what would be a "normal" amount for me..
@TiffRox81 we had our first blowout last night! Earlier in the day we had the poop/pee explosion during the diaper change which was incredible. Last night he was lying between us and we heard it begin and seriously his face was like pure shock! It went out the sides of the diaper, through his pajamas, through my sheets! Luckily I have a mattress protector! It was pretty funny.
@theshannondee I was joking to my husband yesterday when we were changing him that he was probably going to get peed on and as soon as I said that he peed on me!
I actually went poop in the hospital on day 1. I was incredibly nervous but it wasn't a problem at all. They had given me some colace not long before. I haven't taken any other stool softeners since and things are still going well.
Elise is really inconsistent with feedings so far. I'm hoping it will even out at some point. She just snacked on and off during the day yesterday and then ate ALL night long. My milk is definitely coming in today though so that is exciting.
@rakel88 I'm having the same problem. I start feeling dizzy and then realize that I have been forgetting to eat. I'm also forgetting to go to the bathroom.
Omg all your stories made me laugh. Glad we aren't alone!!! The blowouts really are unreal. How can that much pooh come from such a little body?!? Sounds like it's a phase they're all going to go through at this stage!!! @theshannondee I love that you cut the onesie, hahaha! We tossed the one from last night too. I wasn't even going to mess with it. I'm hoping the Aden and anais swaddles clean up tho. Those are pricey!!

I experienced this for about 2 weeks pp. My appetite has mostly returned now (3 weeks pp).z
