Rocker/Glider Suggestions?

Re: Rocker/Glider Suggestions?

  • @bnsmith85 yeah what MIL wants to get us a hickory rocker (this style)  I just don't see myself being able to nurse in it for long periods of time. My husband has been wanting one in general so if they got it for us it would be more as something for the living room generally as opposed to for the baby. I know Dutailer has great reviews on here and elsewhere, and the Shermag has good reviews too, I just wasn't sure of the quality considering the big price difference. The other thing to add is that I can't find the Dutailer in any stores around here so we can't try it out.

  • Ok, that's what we decided to do! The gray Dutailer we want is $150 off at the moment for some reason, so we went ahead and ordered it! It should get here by Thursday, i'm so excited!

  • @LGW2015 Good call. Lurking from Nov but trying to figure out what glider I want to get this time around. I bought that Shermag when i had my daughter a few years ago. I had pieces break on it that had to be replaced and now it is super rickety from side to side which cant be adjusted. I regret it 100%.

  • @bzzrbee28 Yikes! That's what I was afraid of. I'm excited to test out the Dutailer when it arrives!

  • Since I plan on breastfeeding the twins, we got a "chair and a half" - it's absolutely huge and so comfy. Walmart had it in a couple different colors. It doesn't glide, just rocks, so not sure if that's what someone is interested in. Literally though, me + 2 people fitting in it is not a big deal.

@annabenanna thanks for writing a review! 2 things:
1- the reviews for every chair I've looked at have said that if you're a shorty like you and I, you're not going to be able to reach the floor. So I don't think any other chair would have been better in that regard.
2-do you think some WD40 would help it close easier?
I think you're right about the short-girl situation.  I think it's just something we have to accept.  Haha.

SO sprayed some WD40 over the weekend, and we also sprayed it down with Scotch Guard to protect it.  I ALSO discovered a technique to close it without using ALLLLLL my ab strength.  I basically push it down with my legs until I can touch the floor... then I anchor the ball of my foot on the floor and place my heel on the foot rest, and I close it!  It works like a charm!
  • @LGW2015 - That hickory rocker looks so painful :#

  • @sjo_thetwins oh my gosh, i love that rocker!!!!  I love how big it is!
  • @annabenanna it's in the nursery but if our living room was big enough, it'd be there instead. ;)

I'm obsessed with it. Can I have one even though I only have one baby???  :#

  • My chair came this morning! We can't put it together til Friday when the paint is finished in the room :( I just wanna sit in it!
  • @CopperBoom86 right?! That is NOT what I had in mind for a nursing chair. They're actually not bad but still so not what I'm looking for!

Just wanted to share that we got our Dutailer. It's very nice and really comfy, I'm glad we went with it! My only concern is that it tipped forward once while I was getting out of it, crazy! I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. It says to make sure it's in the upright position before you get up but I actually think reclining it backward a little prevents it from getting top heavy and tipping. Idk it's very odd! Hoping I don't have a defective chair.

  • @LGW2015 yay for Dutailier's arrival! Ours came this week too but it's not assembled so I won't be able to test it out probably til next weekend..ill try to remember to post an update!
  • @purelex That looks great! I definitely want a rocking recliner myself. Mind sharing the model of this one? Do you have plans to treat the upholstery in any way to protect it from baby fluids?

  • @annabenanna did you order a matching ottoman?? I couldn't find one on the site? Does it glide too??
  • @afry613, no i didn't order a matching ottoman.  I have some of those moroccan poufs in my living room that I can use with it.  In the pic, if you look thats just foot rest when you have the chair in the reclining position.

And yes, it glides and swivels!

I bought a rocking recliner and ottoman from Buy Buy Baby with my first.  The brand is Little Castle, and I cannot speak more highly about it.  So comfy, and I spent so many nights leaned back with my little guy sleeping on me...I may have died if I was forced to sit upright all those nights lol.  Right now I'm deciding whether to move it to the baby's room, or to buy another one.  I still love reading to my son in it, or rocking him if he has a rough night.

edited to add:  Not sure if this is still the case, but for some reason the Little Castle chairs didn't show up on the BBB website when I bought it, so you had to actually go there in person to see them.

Thank you @annabenanna !! I was so excited I thought it had a matching gliding ottoman... I ended up finding this one and ordered it last night. I was trying to find a fully upholstered glider that reclines and has a matching gliding ottoman... This was the only one I could find that wasn't a small fortune. It only had 2 reviews that weren't great but I snagged it through Amazon prime so I can return if it doesn't seem right!!! Thanks for everyone sharing about gliders it helped in making my decision.
edit: for pic with too much info.

  • @afry613 glad you were able to return the first and find such a great deal! The new one looks great!
  • @kmvisioli thanks so much! I had a moment of stress when the lady said most of the chairs take 16 weeks to come in. @anna.oskar it is very similar to the chair you found there too :)

For anyone willing to spend the money on a good glider.. This is it! Got this for my DS and it is worth every last penny, we've had lots of nights in this chair and it has held up perfectly - if anything it's more comfortable now and still looks perfect! The price isn't so bad if you wait for a sale and then sign up for email for an additional 15% off!
Edit - it's the Pottery Barn Swivel Glider!
  • my afternoon will be me
falling asleep in the entire glider selection of babies r us.

So we went there today to the PB kids/baby store and I sat in one.. it was HEAVEN.  We went to lots of places and tried lots of gliders, but this one was wonderful!  Lucky you!

Just came across this today - it looks like a really good deal and all the reviews appear to be great. Just doesn't seem to have a matching ottoman...but I'm thinking about just using a natural or cream pouf ottoman instead - what do y'all think? I'm scared to pull the trigger & order!

I've seen that one online but scared to order anything without actually sitting in it! I've found a good one locally, but I think that one is great looking! I'm also doing a pouf ottoman!

@sjo_thetwins What is the material of your rocker? Is it suede or microfiber or more like normal upholstery?

It's sort of a suede/microfiber material but it has seams like corduroy. Does that make sense? It's very soft, lol.

This is the one my mom bought for us!  It's VERY comfy and supportive.  Plus, super easy to assemble (like 3 pieces). I haven't gotten one yet, but I'm just going to pick up small ottoman or something from Target eventually... Granted I haven't spent sleepless nights in it yet with a baby, but my husband and I both tried it out several times and found it very comfortable.  Plus, I love that it has the old-school rocker look to it on the bottom...
  • I have pretty much this glider, but we have fabric instead of microfiber. I worked at a furniture store at the time so I got it for a steal. I got the ottoman, and made sure the chair locked. It doesn't recline, but I didn't need it to. I had it in our bedroom when DD slept in there with us (in a pack and play until she was sleeping through the night), so it was just a few steps to bed for me. It has its stains, but it's still comfy.

I used to rock DD while we read before bedtime, and when we couldn't fit in it comfortably together any more when she was around 3 or so, we just left it in her room for her. She loved it and sat in it a lot. She had a moment of sadness when she realized she couldn't keep it in her room anymore, but she's over it now. I loved using it with DD and can't wait to use it with this one.
