Brazillian Wax at 8 months???

I know this may be a TMI question....but is anyone getting a brazillian before giving birth? I know they say the increased blood flow to that region makes things extra sensitive. I feel like it would be worth it to have the cute toes done, the pink blush maternity robe and your vajayjay...well....not a wild jungle. I am 50/50 on it. Maybe if I sit on an ice pack on my way to the appointment it wouldn't be so bad. Lol!

  • I get Brazilians once every 2 months. I haven't noticed an increase in pain since being pregnant but my hair does grow back faster.
  • All I'm doing to feel pretty is bringing my makeup so I can put it on for pictures after (whether that be the same day or the next, whatever). I don't really care (neither will anyone else) about the mani/pedi or wax as no matter how hard I tried, it's just not a glamorous time and I'll be way more focused on pushing a person out of my body.  The hospital staff sees all kinds of vags and all kinds of women daily and they won't care either.

If you do care, keep in mind everyone reacts differently during pregnancy. I've always waxed on my face and nether region and I stopped during pregnancy because my skin is more sensitive and I had lots of bleeding and red bumps that lasted for days, not cute. You might be totally fine though. I certainly wouldn't take the risk myself if I cared how my vagina looked during childbirth.

  • I've continued to shave by feel. It's worked out thus far even if I can't see. Just use a gentle razor! If you're used to waxes then I say go for it. My best friend was waxed a week before she went into labor and she didn't report anything out of the ordinary. If you're very concerned maybe ask your OB about the risks/pain management?
  • I'm waxing/ will be waxing.  I'm also planning it so I don't have to fish blood clots out of public hair afterwards.  Sounds sexy huh?
  • I've decided I'm going for the wax, but just a bikini wax. The rest I will trim myself (because DH is weird and thinks it's "crossing a boundary"). I honestly don't care what it looks like down there, but I find I'm sensitive to it being a little bit more... umm.. musky? Than when it's not trimmed. Just my personal preference.

  • You really won't care how it looks when you're pushing the baby out haha you just want it over and done with! I have *somewhat* kept up with waxing my legs, armpits and insanely hairy belly this pregnancy and have noticed that it all is a little more sensitive as well as they get very very dry and scaley after no matter how much oil and lotions I use and added exfoliating so I'd be way too scared to go Brazilian!
  • I'd be more concerned about peeing a little when they rip the tape off. But I'm sure they have seen it all.
I actually did keigels when I got laser to help distract myself. Will be starting over in October :-)
  • Definitely not even close to being on my to-do list lol, but more power to ya! Quick note ladies - some doctors will tell you to stop shaving at a certain point before your due date due to increased risk of infection.

I am not planning on any action happening around my due date or for a pretty long time after, so the pain is no where near worth it to me. Seeing how the doctors will most likely be cleaning up poop, I don't think a bit of hair will be the worst thing they have to deal with.

I didn't even get to so much as trim before my first was born, and I didn't have problems with blood clotting in my jay-jay hair. You'll be squirting the area with water every time you go to the bathroom. It stays relatively blood free as a result.

OP, it's not what I would do, but there is nothing about childbirth that feels pretty or glamorous. If this will make you feel better, go for it. (I did have a cute pedi during my first childbirth. Nobody noticed it, and I only remember it because it was part of my birthday present that year from my husband. I would like to do it again, but for the pampering aspect.)

  • I'm an Esthetician and I get lots of pregnant women for brazilians. It's so much easier to keep it clean after the birth. I've never heard anyone say it hurts more. What will make it easier is to try not to tense up before they pull and take a deep breath before they pull. Also, look for a place that uses hard wax! It will hurt much less!

I've posted on this subject before. I'm pro-Brazilian throughout the pregnancy and have gotten 3-4 of them since I've been pregnant. Well, I got one last week (at 28 weeks) and it was the most painful one I've ever received. This may have had something to do with the technician, who I hadn't used before, but it was... terrible. I'm not sure I'll be getting another prior to birth.  :|

Let's face it, those regions are not exactly aesthetically pleasing at that point in time either way. I agree, the peri bottle took care of everything I needed it to along with showering. No need to fish anything out from anywhere lol.

Edited because the bump deleted my response :(
  • I've been getting Brazilians before and during my pregnancy. The last one was at 27 weeks and it actually hurt the least out of all I have ever gotten!!! I think this is an anomaly though as even my aesthetician warned me that they say it hurts worse when you are pregnant. I plan on getting my last one about 2 weeks before my due date. It is for my own comfort and I don't want them shaving me if needed for a c-section.

  • FTM here so I can't speak for the post baby clean up, but I have been getting regular monthly Brazilians for a year. I've been on the fence about getting one this month... After my last one I (well DH, since he can actually see it) noticed a lot of redness and ingrown hairs. He actually asked if I was okay and if it hurt. It's fine to me, but if the point is for it to look good and it doesn't, I may back off these last few months.

If I do decide to keep going, appreciate the post baby clean up points - I didn't even think about that.

I can vouch for hard wax though, that stuff works and it doesn't really hurt that bad. Take a couple of Tylenol before you go, wear a maxi dress and don't wear undies after.

    Good luck!

They will still shave you, it's more of a just in case there's anything there
  • Lol, oh yeah, it's a thing! Even with a good wash down I hate dealing with really cleaning down patients with, eerrrmmmm, turf.  Somr things will be left unsaid here :) Maybe I'm a bit partial because I see/do it on a daily at work.  We don't give a hoot what you've got going on down there, I'm sure no one else will the day of either, it's all just personal preference.  To each her own.  If you're afraid of being too sensitive Y you can always use a trimmer which is what we often do to our patients to help keep things under control.  There's cheap small ones St Walgreens and it will get pretty close to the skin.  Just exfoliate and hop to it after the shower.

Stuck in the box. More proof that it's different wherever you go. I was specifically told not to shave, and I wasn't shaved for my c-section because of the additional skin irritation it would cause over the incision. But to each their own.

ETA: I have incredibly sensitive skin, so not everyone will share my fear of ingrown hairs.

My last Brazilian was around the 28 week mark and it was no big deal --- it didn't hurt any more than usual.

If you want to do it for you, I say go for it. But if it's more for the hospital staff, I'd say skip it.
  • there was another topic on this recently and I posted this, so some is a repeat...

I was a Brazilian regular before pregnancy (sugaring), and it hurt so bad during pregnancy I stopped going. My esthetician commented that it's more painful for a lot of pregnant women - I was sweating and flinching it hurt so bad and there is no way I will subject myself to that again while pregnant. A personal hair trimmer is helping me keep things under control.

My skin is sensitive and sometimes I get ingrown hairs or bumps randomly with a Brazilian, and I would rather deal with a little hair than that happening after birth!

got my BW and upper thighs done today.  i'm so happy I did, i was feeling pretty overgrown.  I had tried to use the trimmer but kept clipping my skin bc i can't see anything and trying to use the mirror i'm just rolling over onto my back like a turtle.  Ridiculous!

I can't believe it didn't hurt more than it did.  My aesthetician is bomb, I've used her before.  Probably over a year since my last BW and 6 months since last bikini wax so i totally expected it to be awful.  So, goes to show you - can't plan on anything during pregnancy.  I made an appointment for 5 weeks from now (1 week before I'm induced).  it's not for the staff, it's for me.  i just feel stinky already and the summer heat is not helping me feel fresh.
