Inductions

Re: Inductions

  • @Puddles03 yeah, totally. I completely agree and delaying induction to a certain extent makes total sense. I think this pregnancy has left me with almost clinical stillbirth paranoia. Something for which the seed was planted when I had my first.

  • So so it's ok to be all for inductions but not against? There are two sides to every story and I'm not one for shoving glitter up people's a$$es because they only want to hear one side. Yes some inductions are medically necessary and  I had an induction with my first. But because you want baby to arrive on a schedule is not and should not be a valid reason to induce. There can be complications either way but the more knowledge you have going in makes you a better mom and makes you able to make better decisions. If you think it's right for you go for it, but don't blindly follow a doctor's schedule because they want to keep their Saturday T-off time.
  • @ESchreinerWrites wow we had a similar induction except yours went awesome and mine fizzled. It goes to show how different inductions can be for everyone, it's definitely not something to throw a blanket statement at. Oh and my Elliott says hello to your Elliot! :)

@theshannondee - I saw in the birth announcements that you had an Elliott! Great name choice  :) yeah, that's the scary thing... the fizzle. I was so sure I was going to get 14 hours in and have gone through all of that muss only to end up sectioned. Fortunately, he dealt great with labor despite being ridiculously time.
  • I was induced at 41w 3d with my first, and in my experience it is completely possible to have a smooth induction without pain meds if that is what you choose. Now I am looking at a possible induction with this LO at 39.5 weeks because he has been measuring so big, and risk of getting stuck (like DD almost did) is a very real possibility if I wait longer. My midwives have been super supportive and they were actually the ones that brought up the possibility of induction about 2 months ago, just to get me thinking about it, if this LO doesn't arrive on his own. Yes, we would all love to go into labor on our own, but everyone has different circumstances for being induced. It's not fun being hooked up to an IV throughout labor and not being able to labor possibly in a way that you would like to, but the end goal is a healthy baby and mom.
  • I had my appointment with the Perinatal Center this afternoon for a growth scan and NST. The doctor is going to recommend that I be induced at 38 weeks due to GD, baby's size, and the fact that I also have a VP shunt. He really wants me to avoid a c-section because the shunt could become infected. I feel bad because I really wanted her to stay put as long as possible, but I also don't want to put her health or my own at risk. My OB will be finalizing the date next week but it sounds like I could have her as early as the 13th.
  • I'm mid induction for low amniotic fluid and still only dilated to a 1.5 after 6 hours and two rounds of cytotech. They probably won't start pitocin until tomorrow morning now, so this will probably be a long process. I'm hoping my body decides it wants to kick into labor on its own soon so things start moving, but oh well. Definitely a weird experience! I think I'm most nervous about this ending up in a csection, since that's the one thing I am most fearful of going through. I know it will be OK if that is the outcome, but it scares me.

  • Fingers crossed for you @winnie1122. Have you had an epidural, or are you going at it unassisted right now?
  • @ESchreinerWrites Not yet, things are progressing so slowly that I haven't gotten to a point where I need it yet. Currently at a 3, thankfully contracting on my own without pitocin, but the pain is still manageable. Just hard to sleep and get comfortable.

  • Good luck to you, sister! Soon you'll be on the other end. It's not at all uncommon for it to go slow then take off. Fingers crossed.
  • @winnie1122 I hope they offered you ambian. Gets you at least 3 hours of sleep.

  • @winnie1122 Totally! With my first (also an induction) that is what I learned. Contractions with water in tact = annoying. Contractions after your water breaks = F-ING legit! Not far now

@winnie1122 Hope you are holding your baby soon!
  • Have an appointment on Friday (39 weeks on the dot) for my first cervix check and to schedule induction. Baby boy has been measuring big for about 2 months now - my DD was almost 9 pounds and her shoulders were "tight" coming out. Have a lot more anxiety about this labor/delivery than DD just knowing he is so much bigger, and the "what ifs" are taking over (getting stuck, tearing a lot more than with DD, ending up with a c-section). I know I'm almost at the end but feeling very anxious!
  • Scheduled for an induction next week (7/14). I have to say, reading through all these stories have put my mind at ease. I am still quite nervous, but the excitement of getting to finally meet my LO is easing my nerves quite a bit! :)
  • I'm 40w5d and have an appt today with my least favorite doctor in the practice. He's repeatedly told me they only start offering inductions at 41 weeks. Fine, no problem. That would be Friday for me. But then he continues to say, but we "like to schedule them at the beginning of the week" so it'll likely be Monday.

Why? Can someone tell me WHY it makes a difference what day of the week it is? I am in excruciating pain and discomfort and there is NO chance I was wrong on dates and this baby is underdeveloped. Please provide logic so I don't snap at this man again.

This should probably go under U/O... But my guess as to the early in the week induction preference is so that if it takes a while, the doctor on call won't have to come in on the weekend. They may very well may have to come in for someone that goes into labor on their own but planning a weekend labor is different. I could be totally wrong.  But that's the first thing that comes to my mind. I know there was a "tee time" comment somewhere that did not go over well and I'm not trying to say that at all. But if you could schedule work for a "work day" as opposed to a potentially free weekend, wouldn't you? I would. Lol  Hopeully if you push they'll change their mind though!
