I'm 40w5d and have an appt today with my least favorite doctor in the practice. He's repeatedly told me they only start offering inductions at 41 weeks. Fine, no problem. That would be Friday for me. But then he continues to say, but we "like to schedule them at the beginning of the week" so it'll likely be Monday.
Why? Can someone tell me WHY it makes a difference what day of the week it is? I am in excruciating pain and discomfort and there is NO chance I was wrong on dates and this baby is underdeveloped. Please provide logic so I don't snap at this man again.
This should probably go under U/O... But my guess as to the early in the week induction preference is so that if it takes a while, the doctor on call won't have to come in on the weekend. They may very well may have to come in for someone that goes into labor on their own but planning a weekend labor is different. I could be totally wrong. But that's the first thing that comes to my mind. I know there was a "tee time" comment somewhere that did not go over well and I'm not trying to say that at all. But if you could schedule work for a "work day" as opposed to a potentially free weekend, wouldn't you? I would. Lol Hopeully if you push they'll change their mind though!
I was thinking something similar but I can't imagine that's the only reason. If it is, then I don't feel bad about pushing for Friday but I truly hope that's not the reason.

Totally agree, I'm sure it's not the only reason. Just the one that comes to my mind first. Wonder if it has anything to do with if you ended up needing a c/s and the staffing for that on a weekend?
I know sometimes if the census is high in Maternity or Labor & Delivery, they will postpone any inductions but I don't know why they would have a blanket rule. I do hope the doctor is able to give you a good reason to wait if they're not willing to discuss Friday.
@ladyfleck If he gives you the same response, definitely push to see what the reason is! He should be able to give you some logical explanation.
This is not the same situation, but I work in product development at a contract manufacturing food company where we make things for a lot of the big name food guys. When we have to run a trial for a new item, we get A LOT of push from the big companies to run it ASAP which means they want to run it on weekends or second/third shift. While my department doesn't have an issue with running off hours, my company has a policy that all trials for new products must be run on first shift Monday-Friday. This is because we have the most staffing (engineering, maintenance, production supervisors, warehouse, quality, etc) available to make sure the trial runs smoothly. Calling all of those departments in on a weekend would be really expensive for my company and they are already scheduled to be there on the weekdays.
The whole weekend off thing seems bananas to me but I also live in a big city and am going to a big hospital so they are always staffed and thereby schedule inductions 24/7. Tomorrow I get the date for mine officially scheduled. Here's hoping for not 12am or something similar
@LadyFleck Hopefully you can get it scheduled sooner rather than later. Did the doctor make any mention about how busy the hospital may be? Not sure if that makes a difference in your case. I will be scheduling mine at my appointment on Friday and my midwife has already told me the hospital has been busy so I'm not sure what that will mean as far as scheduling. When I scheduled my induction with my DD because it was considered elective (she was 10 days late) I just had to call the hospital the morning of to make sure they had room for me, which they did (and that was on a Thursday).

This is exactly the explanation that was given to me. They don't have the same staffing over the weekends as they do the beginning I guess and can only plan to handle the last min/emergency situations. I get that.
Im doing an NST now and another on Friday. Then scheduled for a 7am induction Monday morning. I have to call to make sure they have room. Here's to hoping I go before then!
@LadyFleck I'm surprised because it seems like most offices push to have inductions done before you hit 41 weeks now. I actually would prefer to wait because I don't want the Pitocin if not necessary, but I haven't heard of doctors near me with your office's policies. Hopefully you can get them to work with you. The Monday thing seems weird. Not even Thursday? How long are their weekends? I got a Friday induction last time around because I didn't like the Monday doctor. Good luck!
Good luck @LadyFleck and @Backbypopulardemand !! My Friday morning induction almost got shelved because the staffing is different on weekends. Looks like that's a contributing factor. Excited for your babies ladies!
Saw my OB today and no change.. she's on call this weekend so she said she hopes she sees me lol. I did put an induction date on the books just in case. She let me choose the date. Is it bad that I want to call her and say I want to change the date to sooner than we scheduled? (I'm not due for two more weeks and scheduled for 3 weeks out) I wish all you ladies luck for your inductions coming up and hope that things go well/quickly for all of you!!
Induction begins tomorrow. We are to call at 6:30am and see when they want us to head in. I'm really excited that after they start the cervidil (and a little bit of monitoring) they will let me go home for 12 hours to see if labour gets going. I'm super excited and nervous all at once
@Weville I'm so jealous your hospital will let you go home after Cervidil. I had that with DD and had to stay at the hospital the entire time. Excited for you to have the induction begin and hope that the Cervidil is all you need to get things moving along!
Walking as much as I can today in hopes my LO turns upside down. Otherwise, inversion/induction on Tuesday & if she still doesn't turn I'll be staying for a c-section.
Good luck to all you ladies! My doctor mentioned to me at my appointment today That if I don't go into labor on my own within the next 2 weeks, we will be scheduling an induction at my next appointment. Eeekk. Shit. Is. Getting. Real.
Thanks guys! This thread has been awesome for making me feel better about it. I really appreciate all the stories that have been shared and for those still waitin, hope your little guys get themselves ready to appear
@Weville, good luck tomorrow! I agree that's awesome that they will let you go home after the Cervadil. I hope everything goes smoothly and you are snuggling your little one soon!
@kgrgreen I hope your little one cooperates and gets into position soon.
I just got a call from my doctor's office and I was told to be at the hospital by 8:00 next Tuesday evening so they can start my induction. I'm excited and nervous.
@Weville@Backbypopulardemand@LadyFleck@Mbondi0 Good luck with your inductions, ladies! I will also be jumping on the induction train next week as well. Mine is scheduled for Tuesday at 4:00pm. We will be holding our babies very soon!
@kgrgreen Hope your baby turns by Tuesday! Mine was transverse on a Tuesday a couple of weeks ago and then suprisingly, she turned on her own 2 days later and was head down so anything is possible!
You guys were making me nervous about my doc "being on call". I asked today and in their practice, your patient is your patient whether on call or not. The only reason you might not get your doc is if they are out of town. So relieved!
Thanks guys! This thread has been awesome for making me feel better about it. I really appreciate all the stories that have been shared and for those still waitin, hope your little guys get themselves ready to appear
^ wss. Thanks for the support and making what we're going through less scary. Happy, healthy mommy and babies soon (and more precious pics to add to the announcement board)!
Everyone scheduling/having inductions soon-best of luck to you! Can't wait to see your birth announcements
@Weville that's awesome that they let you go home with the cervidil! They used it for my induction and I had to be admitted to the hospital. Thankfully they let me eat breakfast in the morning since it was such a long process! FX it works well for you and your body is able to get things started at home.
My doctor tempted me with a Friday induction (tomorrow) but I'm giving my body two more days to figure this out!! Induction scheduled for Monday (41w6d)... Good luck ladies
@BettyRu good luck girl!! Hope it all goes great and -- if you do have an induction -- it's a smooth one. I am, oddly, a HUGE fan of induction. But I totally get the trepidation
@mrsmommya That's AWESOME! I've never heard of a practice doing that! At mine you get whoever is on call -- so you see all of the docs during the course of the preg so you don't have a stranger catching your kiddo as he/she comes out!
Good luck with all the upcoming inductions ladies! Can't wait for you all to be able to hold your babies! I hope the process is as quick and as painless as possible for you all!
@Nerdchild I had miso/cytotec but only dilated to a 1+ after 24 hours. Then they did the foley. For me it was pretty uncomfortable but boy was it efficient. I "labored" in the jacuzzi tub during that and it helped immensely. I think mine fell out in about 3 hours, they said some people are quicker than that but most fall out before the 6-8 hour mark. Mine shot out while I was peeing. Pretty weird!
@Nerdchild for this induction they started with cervidil (because it worked like a charm wirh my first) after leaving that in for 12 hrs, nothing has happened, so they moved to the folley. It worked like a charm. Can't really tell you about discomfort associated with it because I got me epidural pretty much immediately after they put it in.
I've been dilated for four weeks now (at 2cm as of my Friday check), but I've only had minor contractions and no MP loss that I've seen. My doctor offered to induce me this Tuesday, which would be 39+3, but I opted to wait until the following Wednesday to see if LO comes on his own - his due date is a week from today!

@kgrgreen FX baby turns upside down!
July16 JULY siggy challenge
eta because skimmed too quick. @Weville exciting! And major props to your hospital!

Is anyone else's doctor having them do a Foley induction instead of Cervadil?
