Re: Nesting

  • Our nursery is set because DS and LO will be sharing a room. Instead, I've been nesting the rest of the house. I got a new king bed so I HAVE to replace my queen furniture with King furniture. I ordered new nightstands and end of the bed bench. Also needed new bedding and pillows.

Then my focus was on area rugs. Half of the ones we have had pet messes from the initial move and I don't like them anymore. Ordered a new set, which means I need that coffee table I've been eyeing.

    HALP! I'm out of control!

  • I NEED all of my baby gear in order.  I don't need much since I saved everything from DD1, but I just want to finalize these last few things.

I am also obsessing about getting things at work together.  I want to be able to leave things in a good place as of August 1st so my last month can be simple and quiet.

Forgot about getting DS's stuff organized. I'm leaving that for maternity leave.

I think I'm somewhat in nesting mode. I have episodes, like with the nursery (which we still have to finish painting) but I'm in a bit of a lull because there are a few things that need to happen before we can completely prepare the home for baby.

This weekend we'll be bringing in a bunch of furniture and rearranging things and then our Baby Shower is in August, so until then we don't have several items that we need to make things feel "ready" and "complete". We've wanted to purchase a number of different things already (new nursery decorations, rug for nursery, changing table pad, etc) but I've been scolded by both my mom and MIL to stop purchasing items until after the shower, lol.

I fully expect Nesting to come on in all of its glory sometime mid-August.

  • My Mother's Day gift this year was a professional house cleaning so we're going to have them come a few weeks before delivery and when out house goes on the market. Unfortunately this also means that I can't set up LO's nursery until we move. I've just been buying and boxing things for her room and will set up her cradle in our room. I did get her mobile yesterday and it's adorable, I can't wait to put it up.

So, for right now, nesting is mostly buying last minute necessities, cleaning nursery fear from our last baby, and making lists.
  • I've been obsessed with getting everything I need for my townhouse. I just bought tons of dishes and today I've been looking at which new knife set I want to buy.

  • I'm very eager to get her nursery done and we plan on getting her crib and ordering various other items this weekend. I just want her room to feel like her room. I feel like I am constantly sweeping the floors and doing dishes though and the clutter is enough to put me in the looney bin. The kicker is by the time I get home from work to do anything, my energy is gone and the couch consumes me.  I know I will hit it hard this weekend since I have decided not to go anywhere or do much of anything.

I get the urge and it must be met, otherwise I am perfectly happy relaxing or unwinding from work. DH hates it because he feels like when I decide to clean, everyone has to clean, but I can't help it.

  • Nesting? What's that?  Just kidding.  I'm in the if it gets done it gets done category.  Nursery is ready to go and all of DS's gender neutral clothing is washed and put away (Team Green here) but other than that... no thank you

  • I'm definitely starting to nest. It took longer with my first to hit that stage, but I'm there now. It's coming through with overall cleaning and getting the nursery ready.

  • People like to tell me I'm nesting but honestly if you ask my husband I'm not any different in pregnancy than I am normally. I'm a very organized neat freak that has to have everything just so at all times. A chaotic environment actually makes me a very angry person so I guess I'm in constant nesting mode.
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo I finally decided today to sweep up a french fry that has been staring at me for a week.
Stupid sweeper vac died so I'm plotting on a Dyson since they are on sale at costco.
BTW Dear God can we have a bigger nest?

  • My doctor was the first one to introduce the concept of nesting to me, and it's so real!! She did say to make sure to rest, not overdo it, and make sure I eat snacks as well during (since I have glucose intolerance).

@AlwaysAuntNeverMom Seriously, twinning. We had my shower on Sunday and I took Monday off to organize the gifts and steam clean the carpet in LO's nursery using our Hoover Steam Vac. I even took some items back to the stores for returns. Today I am taking inventory of the diapers, to see which sizes to exchange for (as we got a TON of newborn).

This past Thursday I cleaned our whole downstairs since DH apparently scheduled four weeks in between with our housecleaners. I even went so far as to vacuum the couches, and flip and fluff the cushions. I was sweating, and ended up going to bed at midnight!

Talk to me, I need a new vacuum.

  • For you vacuum shoppers:
  • @OBMommy Yaaasssss! I'm done with the clunker we have.

This one is $295 w/ free delivery.

Between this and that dang Samsung super fridge with the camera inside I can't stay off the Internet. I want it so bad but can't justify $5000 for a fridge. Then costco puts the non-camera version on sale for $2800 but still that's a used car!
    Im obsessed with appliances. Bruh!
  • I want a Roomba for my birthday... That sounds so sad that I want a damn vacuum for my birthday

  • I have been hardcore nesting.  And I love it - I feel so productive and prepared!  With our big BBQ this past weekend, the house got super organized and was cleaner than it had been in months.  Granted, the party itself undid some of that but we're still in way better shape than when we started!  My nesting self is loving it!

  • PoodleDoodleOoo yep yep right there with you. People keep asking if we are ready and I just laugh. We are re-flooring our entire home this week, and after it's done and we have furniture moved back in, I am praying some sort of nesting urge takes hold of me. Right now I just want to lay in the recliner and watch Netflix.
We re-floored our entire house a few weeks ago as well, before we had carpet everywhere (Yes even in the dining room) it was horrible and it feels SO much better now! Good luck with yours :)

We also re painted most of the house, there is a bathroom and small room with wallpaper downstairs so we decided to wait until next year to do that. Wallpaper is a bitch.

We still have to buy everything for baby : / Like so far all I have is a few clothes and some swaddles. I am also hoping the nesting thing kicks in quickly, and then maybe I will even do some cleaning lol.

Team Dyson ftw. Especially with a black cat and a black dog!
  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom Two months is more than enough time to get everything washed.  I was able to wash all of DD's old stuff (blankets, burp clothes, nursing pillow covers, bedding, clothes newborn through 6 months, changing pad covers, etc etc) in about four loads total.  So easily done in a weekend, with another few days to fold and put it all away, if you're going at a leisurely pace.  I agree with you, though, waiting until the week before and hand washing it all?  Nope.  Lol.

  • @LizC216 PLEASE add pop tarts to that list. They are a vehicular nightmare. Crumbs and gooey centers! I kept finding more pieces like Indiana Jones looking for treasure.

@CRich15 Roombas are amazing!! We're on our second one (we got one for our wedding, and then upgraded it to a newer model just about a month ago). I seriously talk to it like it's a pet. His name is Geoffrey. (Crazy alert over here!)

I wish I was nesting... Instead I just think about all of the things I'll need to do at some point and I'm so overwhelmed I don't do anything. The crib is still in pieces, but that's mostly because we're hopefully moving in a month so it would be silly to set it up now. I DID finally paint a dresser for the nursery, so at least that's something! I guess my biggest form of nesting for the next month will have to be purging junk and getting this apartment packed up... Eeeeeeeek.
  • @Slou24 - I would LOVE to get a Roomba, but I'm intensely nervous about how our youngest dog would respond to it (he'll be a year old next month). Currently he completely spazzes when we use the vacuum. I mean he goes absolutely ballistic. He is the SWEETEST dog and has the most snuggly disposition but when that vac comes out... holy geez. He barks and snarls and attacks the vacuum and hose, his eyes practically cross he's so upset. I can't imagine what would happen if we had a vacuum that moved freely around the space. The poor dog would probably pass out from terror.

I tried to do the whole "Look, buddy! Smell it, it's okay. It's not going to hurt you." And he bit the hose and got his tongue sucked up into it, which I'm sure didn't help matters.

  • Speaking of being lazy, we have a Neato robotic vacuum and we love it. We looked at both the Roomba and Neato and the Neato was better for us. We got ours cheap from Woot.com 4 years ago and it's still going strong.

We have two pets and it doesn't replace normal vacuuming for us, but it makes things a lot easier to clean and goes under furniture to clean where we don't.
