Hand numbness

I've been trying to do some research and I emailed my doctor this morning, but is anyone else experiencing numbness in their hands/extremeties when they are sleeping?  It's worse in my dominant hand and can last throughout part of my work day and is super painful and annoying at night as it wakes me up 3-4 times.  Is this just a sucky side affect that I have to suck it up and deal with or are there options people have tried and had success with - braces, compression sleeves, etc.?

TIA!

Re: Hand numbness

  • There are lots of posts about this already on this board. Here's one that a lot of people responded to:

  • I have it myself. It started around 13 weeks. I still have it at almost 18 weeks. Same exact thing. It sucks. Popping your knuckles and joints seems to help a little bit. Try not to sleep on that side if you can help it.

Also, there's this thread... with no posts.

This would have been a great place to post this question. Also, the one @MrsMaryK2016 shared. The search function is your friend.

  • To answer your question, yes. Both my hands go numb every time I fall asleep since week 5. Sometimes my feet so as well. I am fit and active, work out 5 days a week, drink plenty of water and eat right. I'm not sure why this is happening. This is my 3rd baby and it's never happened before. I just go with it and try to remember my arm positioning before I go to sleep. If I am laying on an arm it guarantees it will be asleep. Same with day time activities. If I don't keep moving they start tingling
  • @JBing131, I'm prone to carpal tunnel and get this, depending on how I'm sitting/sleeping/laying down. Of course check with your own provider but my doctor wasn't terribly concerned. I have wrist braces to wear when/if it gets painful but it's mostly just annoying.
  • Thank you for the suggestions! :)  I guess I HAVE to go to Target then and pick up some wrist braces  ;)

And spend 200.00 more on everything else you don't need
  • I was experiencing this and now I have pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel. I wear a wrist brace on my left hand pretty much 24/7. Looking forward to it going away after baby girl is born. Still get the numbness all the time. Super annoying.
