I'm a paranoid sunscreen fanatic (with myself and especially my kids) and just can't imagine using a tanning bed.

I found one gif to be insufficient.
That's definitely not my definition.

Personally, I would err on the side of caution.
And a grammar lesson.
Also, my strong opinion on this has nothing to do with the fact that I am pregnant, and everything to do with my hatred of cancer.
Spray tanning? It's NMS but probably fine. No clue about while pregnant. Personally I'm just trying to bring pale back.
When it comes to my baby I like to follow the rule of why risk it? If I read something could be bad or hasn't been tested in pregnancy before I avoid it to the best of my ability. It's a small price to pay to give my future child the best chance at being healthy.

If you want to tan in a bed or use self tanner you bronze yourself to your heart contents, personally my lack of "self confidence" because I am pale isn't worth even the tiniest potential risk to me or my baby, but hey that's just me.

Ditto the anti-tanning. You want to be as healthy as possible for your kid, right? If you wouldn't smoke, you shouldn't tan. Even in natural light, IMO. In my family, skin cancer isn't really an issue of IF but WHEN. I've never tried to tan in my life, and I've already had two biopsies and a removal of pre-cancerous cells. Three people in my immediate family have had basal cell carcinomas removed. Why bring that on yourself? Why make your kid watch you suffer? So you could impress some strangers one summer?

For the record, with my first pregnancy, I was all "should I not get my hair colored," and "should I not take hot baths," and "should I not go in the sun," and "should I not use my beauty products?"
I'm totally getting my hair done, taking hot baths, going to the beach where I plan on getting a tan (safely), and I'm not switching products.
I'm even eating lunch meat you guys.
But I'm not going in a tanning bed.

I never questioned it after that, or researched.
It's not something I regularly use anyhow, so it wasn't a big deal for me.
I think she tends to err on the side of extra cautious too.
The HCG in your system while pregnant allows you to burn easier so really even women laying by a pool aren't helping their babies. You are increasing your risk of a fever if you get sunburned and that is not good for the baby.
I error on the side of caution for my baby's sake and only use products my doctor has researched because to me the baby's development is way more important than me feeling good about my legs.
