Mother's intuition

I read somewhere during my pregnancy with DD that if a mom has a gut feeling about her baby's sex, it's usually right - like, 90% of the time.  Now, I can't remember where I read this and I have no idea if it was a reputable source, but just for fun - do you think you'll be having a boy or a girl? We should all be in the dark at least for now, so I thought it would be fun if everyone guessed and we can find out if we were right later on!

Re: Mother's intuition

  • From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I've had this overwhelming feeling that my baby's a boy.  I don't know why.  I just feel very strongly that it is. That being said, I've had very few differences from my last pregnancy this time around, and last time I had a girl. Obviously I have no idea yet. But just for fun, I'm going to say... boy!

Interesting. My gut feeling is telling me a boy. It's been that way since day 1. Can't explain it.

Every baby dream I have features a little girl, so it's already in my head that this LO is a girl. My sister has had a baby girl dream about this baby, as well. And a woman at my H's work who claims a 100% success rate says girl. Of course, all I want is a healthy baby, so whichever sex is fine with me! And also, it's fun to guess!

  • I know that there's no legitimate way to prove intuition, but I strongly believe in it.  With DS I just had this conviction we were having a boy.  DH's cousin thought she was having a boy, my friend thought boy, a coworker thought girl, etc. and everyone so far has been right.  If you have a really strong intuition, I think it's likely to be right.  That being said, I don't have any intuition on these twins yet.  If I had to throw a guess out, I would say two girls.

I've had a really strong feeling that this baby is a boy. I also have had lots of crazy pregnancy dreams starring a baby boy. Oddly enough, the night before my MIL found out we were pregnant she dreamt she was holding our baby boy.
  • Well I had a dream that it was a girl the other night and also "feel" like it's a girl so I'm going to say girl!

  • I always thought I'd have a whole slew of boys, but now that I'm pregnant I can't shake the feeling that this baby is a girl. Very weird I know, and my close friends and coworkers all think it's a boy, but my gut feeling says girl. Either way we'll be insanely happy, so we'll just have to wait and see!

With my dd, I had a feeling she was a girl. It wasn't that I wanted a girl, I honestly didn't care. If I had to have chosen, I would have picked a boy just because my husband wanted a boy. But still, I had this inexplicable feeling the baby was a girl. And I was right.
With this baby, I think I'm starting to feel like we've got ourselves another girl. I think my intuition will grow stronger as the pregnancy progresses, just like last time. It'll be interesting to see if I'm right again.

  • I was so sure DS2 was a girl.  My pregnancy was completely different than my first who was a boy. Nope, just a little boy who has a complete opposite personality to his older brother.

Pretty sure this one is a boy...a good sign its a girl since I'm 0 for 2 by this point.
  • All the crazy dreams I have every night. I haven't dream one with a baby. I think I might be having a girl again. OH!

  • I've had two very vivid dreams now that the baby is a boy. My close friends, family, and coworkers all think the baby is a boy too. The only person who is adamant the baby is a girl is DH. This could make for a very interesting reveal party!

As a side note, I always thought women were so full of it when they said they just wanted a happy, healthy baby regardless of the sex. I always thought I would have a strong preference. I was SO wrong! I really do just want a healthy baby!
  • I had NO idea with my last pregnancy with DD and have no idea this time around either. All the baby dreams I had last go round included a baby with no face. So weird.

If I had to guess, I think I'd say girl simply because that's all I know. Being team green I guess it's a good thing I don't have any intuition about it.

  • With dd1: I had a dream that I was pregnant with a girl twice, and every old wives tale said girl. I thought boy.

TW: my miscarried pregnancy, I knew, without a shadow of doubt that my baby was male. Genetic results confirmed how I felt.

With this baby: I don't have a clue. I strongly believed the baby was female at the beginning. But there are some odd things happening in this pregnancy (sex dreams, less sick that I was with dd, lower hr than dd) which make me think male
  • I think boy.  I have two DD's, and I just feel different.  I don't care either way!
  • With DS I instantly thought boy. I always pictured myself as a boy mom, so the first one just had to be a boy!

I still picture myself as a boy mom, but from the beginning have thought this ones a girl. Some similarities and some differences in the pregnancies, but I just keep thinking girl.

  • I've had a strong feeling from the beginning that we're having a girl. Before we started trying, we thought it would be cool to have a boy first. We're of course neutral, ecstatic either way, but I was kind of weirded out how much I feel like it's a girl now, I didn't know that was a thing. The Chinese conception month/age thing says girl, haha, so we'll see! DH thinks SIL got all the boys (she has two) and we'll have all the girls. He already lives in a house full of girls (three female pets) so I think it would be hilarious.

  • I was 100% sure my last baby would be a boy. She's a girl. But I feel like this baby is a boy too. I'm not putting any stock in it since I was wrong last time.
  • I really think that I'm having a girl! I hope I'm right, because I don't know how to play with boys! Lol. Please be a girl! :)
  • This mommy feels like she's carrying a little girl, but who actually knows?  :D Everyone else is saying "boy", so I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Last time I was convinced it was a girl. Called it she and her without meaning to.  I was right. This time I have a feeling it's a girl but I'm not as convinced as I was last time.
  • Every baby dream I've had before getting pregnant involved having a little boy. Every baby dream I've had since BFP has been a girl. I always just figured I would have a brood of little boys but the thought of having a little girl is so exciting (especially since I had never thought of having a girl before). Either way I'm happy but I can't wait to find out  :p

  • I "knew" my son was a boy. This time I feel completely different with symptoms so I am thinking girl, but I don't "feel it" yet.
  • Hahaha! With my first pregnancy I knew I was having a girl. I was positive. In July 2015, i had my son. This time I think I'm having a boy, but based on my previous try at this, I'm probably having a girl.

Is it weird not to have any particular feeling about it? Because I don't, at all.

    @moonlady I don't think it is.
I must admit though like @KimC85 I have slipped and said she or her a couple of times which really shocked me.
I really don't mind though and being team green it'll be a while till anything is confirmed.
Edit because half my post disappeared
  • @moonlady I hope not because I have no feelings at all. TBH I'm 9w and I still barely feel like this is real. Haven't seen (or heard) baby yet so I'm sure that will change things,  not sure it will about the sex of the child though. We'll see I guess

not weird at all! With my first I didn't really have a feeling; as I got closer to the anatomy scan US I was leaning more towards girl but wouldn't have put money on it either way.  This time around I feel pretty confident it's a boy, and I couldn't tell you why.  Just a gut feeling!

@urbanorchidgirl I'm the same. I have no clue how to play with boys. I've been surrounded by women/girls all my life, I'm the epitome of a prissy, feminine girlie girl - I don't even like baby boy clothes or stuff, to be completely honest. So the idea of having a boy is very daunting to me. With that said, again, all I pray for is a healthy baby.

  • @moonlady I don't think that's strange :) I don't have an overwhelming sense yet, either.

When I first found out I thought it was a girl, but then I think that's also because all the family/friends who recently had babies had a girl, so I'm used to thinking that way. But, when I imagine the little thing in there and implanting and growing, I picture it a little stubborn and sturdy boy. In part because over ovulation time we were moving across the country and it was a VERY stressful time, I ended up ovulating a week later than usual, we consumed quite a bit of alcohol the week it would have been implanting (we had a lot of "welcome home" gatherings), and were adjusting to living with my sister for the next few months while we find a home. I know high stress can prevent implantation, but this little bean dug in and stuck himself there despite the chaos. Everyone that knows "feels" like it's a boy. I would be very happy with either and have names for either, but I'm going to guess it's a boy. I'll have to wait until mid-September to find out!

  • I quit guessing after DS#2 lol I totally thought he was a girl...nope! Last 2 were surprises and I just told myself they were boys because I really have a desire for a girl and wanted to spare myself the disappointment. I will say though, once baby is born it doesn't matter what they are, they're here and perfect and yours. Completely fell in love at first sight!

This time I don't have any feelings, just gonna say boy again because we have 4 and statistics show its less likely to change the more you have.

  • Has anyone's guess changed? I've thought girl for weeks and we listened to the heartbeat tonight and I just suddenly felt like it was a boy. No reason for the change of heart... completely out of left field.

I'm guessing boy. In conversation, I switch from referring to the baby as "he" or "she", and for some reason it just feels more true to me when I refer to the baby as "he". I could be absolutely wrong though.

  • I go back and forth but today I'm feeling like it'll be a girl.
  • With DD, I was convinced she was a boy, so I guess I dont fall into the 90%.
That being said, I had strange dream last night that through bloodwork we found out that it is a boy. In the dream they were also able to tell that he was going to be 8 feet 4 inches tall when he was fully grown (so I am not putting too much faith in the dream being true).

  • @cjs260 hey since you created the EDD spreadsheet it would be fun if we had a separate column with all the guesses on the same chart. Then once people find out the sex (or stay team green) we can have fun comparing! What do you think?
  • I swore up and down I was having a boy last time and when the doctored at the birth announced she was a girl, I was in such disbelief that I asked if he was sure lol. I'm thinking boy this time because the heart beat is so much higher than my girl's, so I'm going boy... but I won't find out until January.
