After searching the board, it is nice to know I am not the only one headed towards a planned C due to breech positioning.
I have had a relatively easy pregnancy - no sickness and still not even the slightest discomfort!
I am 37 weeks today and went in for an ECV this morning which was unsuccessful for the simple fact that her butt is wedged down by my pelvis. It was so easy to move her upper body, and I truly believe she would get head down if she could just get unstuck! It's not the turning I'm worried about, it's getting her up and out of that area.
I plan to keep elevating my hips over the next two weeks to help her along but was looking to hear from those that have had success in flipping their breechers! I know the outcome is healthy no matter what, but I'm not ready to give up, and she still has the room to move!
Check out spinning babies website. Also see if there is someone/a hospital that would attempt a breech delivery (usually they only do it after you have had a first baby but it's worth looking into if that's what you decide you might want)
This thread is my exact situation. Although I'm starting to get to the point where I'm like, if she flips, she flips. If I have to have surgery, then that's fine, too. Your experience with your ECV just reaffirms my decision to not even bother with it. That being said, I will probably still stick with the inversion exercises on spinning babies. I borrowed my FILs inversion table which makes it a lot easier and I have been icing my fundus (that sounds so creepy) which I can tell LO has moved down and away from the cold, but I have no idea how she's laying now.
It's frustrating because you're told not to worry about position until after 36 weeks, but then when you want to do something about it, you should have started a few weeks ago for best results! So again, I'm just going with the flow and letting baby do what she wants for now.
You might also look into a chiropractor who is certified at the Webster Technique, though I think you need to do that a few times before it is successful. I think I would have benefited a lot from that because I have a 'tilted sacrum' and the Webster Technique addresses that.
Hopefully something in my horribly winded reply helps you out!
THANK YOU @brandiK I'm so happy to have found someone going through what I am. I plan on incorporating the inversion table starting tomorrow. You are so right about shrugging off position until 36 weeks. It's frustrating to know the baby is healthy just stuck. You're right...at this point it's if it happens than great - if not there's nothing I can do. Please keep me updated with your progress.
@BBROBB our baby girl is Breech too. We will be 36 weeks on Wed and we found out via an Ultasound last Monday. We have been doing everything we can! Accupuncture, chiropractic work, and spinning babies website has a ton of helpful info on positions you can do to help encourage baby to flip head down. I also downloaded the Hypnobabies track that encourages baby to flip (I listen to it every day)
After research we decided not to do an ECV so we are hoping she turns soon! We have another ultrasound Thurs so we will know more then. We have a c sec scheduled for July 6th but we were planning a home birth and are interviewing a OB who does home births for vaginal breech since hospitals won't do it in our area. Keep me posted!
Ive also read that you don't want to be in a reclining position so if youre sitting you want to be leaning forward... and I second the spinning babies website... has a lot of good information.
I am interested in the pros and cons of an ECV from more of a scientific view point if anyone has some good links they'd like to share. I've been doing some research on my own but haven't seen too many negative things as long as you are a good candidate for it. I know the success rate is only around 50%. Although I like hearing personal accounts of ECV's from other Mom's to be, I really want to base my decision on having after weighing the risks/benefits for me personally.
@BBROBB I already posted about my breech situation in the "S#!t just got real" thread but my baby is also butt down but I have definitely been feeling discomfort! I had thought for sure she was head down due to all the pressure and groin pain I've been feeling but that turned out not to be the case. So if you've had no discomfort from that, than my baby must just be really down in there! I have a C-section scheduled for July 1st but my OB said they'll do one last ultrasound before the procedure to check her position, just in case she did decide to turn.

@MollyH1987 I've definitely had discomfort. It's nice not having feet kicking me in the ribs constantly, but instead I get the kicks to the cervix which can knock the breath out of me at times.
And yes, it seems counterintuitive but you want your hips elevated so you can get the baby "unstuck" from the pelvis, giving them room to flip and go head down. I think that's where the ice helps too, they want to move away from it and towards something warm. So adding light heat near your pelvis sometimes coaxes them that direction if they're able to move. Inversion also helps stretch the round ligaments from what I've been reading, which gives the bottom of your uterus a little more wiggle room.
@thepen15ismighty I'm trying anything at this point and not putting a lot of weight into hoping this works. I've been right side up this whole time and she hasn't flipped so I guess this can't hurt lol.

I was 36 weeks when he flipped, while I was sleeping. snoot response was not directed towards you . Is your doctor acting like it's an issue because until they do I wouldn't stress about yet.
@thepen15ismighty Oh, no worries! I'm 37 weeks today so I mean it could always still happen but she's literally been comfortable with the same position this whole time. My OB did a cervical check Friday and confirmed feet were down first, then we did an ultrasound to make sure and to check fluid levels IF I were to decide to do an ECV. I think at this point we are all just waiting to see what happens but I'll probably get scheduled for a c-section in the meantime just in case. Otherwise, I'm just doing like you mentioned and trying not to worry about it too much.
@brandiK I know someone that did the EVC and everything turned out ok and she had a really quick labor and went to 39-40 weeks. I know my son might be facing head down but he's also face up so he needs to still do some turning. I was told sit up straight and do lunges and walking helps.
Anyone have a baby in transverse position? This baby girl has been in that position for quite a while now and will not budge, no matter what I try. think I'm probably going to be headed for a csection as well, which I'm hoping to avoid...not that there's anything wrong with it, just personal preference.
@hreed7289 I've been trying to read up on the pros/cons of an ECV also - from what I've read, if successful, we get to avoid a csection but getting it done sounds really painful and at the same time, might cause the baby distress which may result in an emergency csection anyway soooo...I think I'd rather skip that altogether, schedule the csection and hope that she turns right before the surgery.
@simplymizzj your plan sounds a lot like mine. Plus I wasn't even sure if the ECV was covered by my insurance. In our area, there are 6 specialists that are able to do it. I can only imagine that price tag. So I'll just take it a day at a time! It would be nice to know what day to expect the arrival of my spawn, so I guess there's pros and cons of both delivery methods either way. I'm still freaking out that I may only have a couple of weeks left!
@brandiK oh good point! Didn't even think about whether or not it would be covered by insurance. I automatically just assumed anything pregnancy related would be covered, ha!
Yeah, at this point, not much we can do but to wait it out and see what's in store for us. In the end, as long as we deliver happy, healthy babies, that's all that really matters.
@simplymizzj I would assume it would be covered in a lot of places, especially if your own OB does it. But I just heard 'specialist' and figured it would be an additional cost. If the success rates were better and there were less risks, and I knew she'd stay flipped if she made it around, then I'd look into it more. But as of right now, I'm fine just winging it!
I'm 37 weeks and just had my breech baby flip to head down!! S/he had been breech for about 3 weeks. I have been doing chiropractic throughout my pregnancy with a chiro specializing in the Webster technique. I went for a treatment on Friday along with acupuncture and Moxibustion with a naturopath and at my ultrasound on Saturday, baby was head down!! Let's hope s/he stays that way!
Also, I was doing the exercises from spinning babies and the Miles Circut.
33+4 today and baby has decided frank breech is awesome. Needless to say, spinning babies has been book-marked, and I'm searching for a chiro. Had an appt today, and the ultrasound tech said there is plenty of fluid so baby should still be able to flip. My Dr said not to worry until around 36 weeks, so I've got time to get some uterine gymnastics going! Come on little one!... Channel your mother's former gymnastics skills!
Just had my first Webster Technique with the chiro today who said I was definitely twisted and tight in the pelvis! I will continue with this...she has had a 90% success rate, so fingers crossed! @travelmunkie what did it feel like when your baby flipped?!
@BBROBB when my daughter flipped last time it was quick but very noticeable, it felt like a super stretch and I could see her move. (She flipped at about 36 weeks) keep up with the Chiro and all the suggestions on spinning babies. Downward facing dog in my prenatal really helped keep her butt from lodging in my pelvis too. Good luck.
I had a doctors appointment today and my baby went from breech to head down sometime in the 34-36 week window. I did not feel it or notice any difference in how I'm currently carrying.
For anyone that's curious I did do a lot of activities to try to get him to flip. I guess I will never know if they helped or if he flipped on his own. I really focused on the below during weeks 34-36 because at my 34 week appointment my midwife was honestly a little scary in telling me that it was highly unlikely he would flip after 36 weeks and to start looking into risks/benefits of an ECV.
Forward leaning version from spinning babies website
Handstands in a pool
Chiropractor (not Webster technique, just normal adjustments) This felt amazing and really took pressure off my hips and lower back.
Peppermint essential oil in an arc on the top of my fundus
Sitting in a warm bath that had a low water level just to keep the bottom of my stomach warm
Playing music at the bottom part of my belly/ pelvis
