I think I have sufficiently annoyed, overworked and pissed of my husband for the weekend (well, our weekend... sun/mon) with my nesting. we have three rooms that we are basically doing a round robin switcheroo with and needed to make room in the garage for extra shit. I don't think he quite expected such gusto from me... I've been non all weekend and it feels AMAZING! Office almost done, then nursery!
Braxton hicks have been happening here since like 14 weeks.. so lame. We tell our patients that six or more in an hour warrants a call/trip to l&d. I'm pretty sure this baby will never have a name. My husband and I cannot agree on anything and it's stressing me out. Zoo trip tomorrow with the kindergartener, should be fun! I have heartburn tonight and I'm highly unimpressed. That's about it for me and my randoms.
@cbamama641I'm with you on the name issue. We are now just avoiding the subject becuase we fight everytime it's brought up. He initially suggested some super ridiculous names that I laughed at because I thought he was kidding...so now anything I bring up he immediately vetoes. I think he's just being defiant at this point but it's really stressing me out as well! Good luck to you - I hope you guys can come to an agreement soon. Add have fun at the zoo today!
Random Snoogle question- the inside of the tighter curve on mine seems to have a really tight inside seam when I open it up a little to lay in it. So when I have my shoulder up in the curve to lay my head on the pillow part, the fabric is so tight it's super uncomfortable on my shoulder. Is anyone else's like that or did I get a dud?
I'm noticing something like that with mine too. I can't get my head/neck comfortable because I either have one of the ends of the curve jabbing me in the neck, or my head winds up falling off the thing entirely. I usually make a little donut shape out of the bigger curved end so it's more like a pillow, which works for a while, but then I move and it uncurls. It's not the worst, but it could be way better. It's comfortable everywhere else though. I might just cut off the top, sew it shut and use a regular pillow for head/shoulders.
@rebeccuh .... that's a great idea! I was talking to DH about busting the seam open and adding a patch to extend the fabric but lobbing off the end and then sewing it shut will be SO much easier! I can sew with a machine but can't hand stitch to save my life.
I don't understand why people think their kids' uniqueness is all about their names... how about teaching your kid to play a unique instrument, learn a unique language, play a unique game, or develop a personality that is uniquely his/hers?
I'm not sure this warrants a new thread so I'll ask here. Can someone who has given birth vaginally tell me whether the experience of labor is more aerobic (like running a long distance) or anaerobic (like doing multiple shorter, full-on sprints)? I have a rare breathing condition (VCD), where I stop breathing during prolonged aerobic activity. I have contacted several specialists but so far no response.
@books&icecream FTM here, so I don't know the answer, but good question for all, I think. I'm interested to know the answer so I can try to prepare. I'm not the greatest at aerobic-type stuff so this will be good to know. Thanks for asking!
@books&icecream I was induced with my first, but from what I can remember (funny how you block out some things!), I recall it being more multiple, shorter-sprints. The pushing was harder than I thought in terms of aerobic/how much it took out of me, but there was definitely time to catch my breath in between. I did have a short labor though (4 hours from beginning of Pitocin to baby), so I'm not sure if that is typical or not.
Depends on the stage of labor, IMO. Dilation and laboring isn't that physically intense because you're just managing your breathing more than anything. Pushing is like short sprints. I would push with the contractions then rest for a contraction or two. If I had to compare it to anything, I'd compare pushing to lifting weights (work hard, take a break, work hard, take a break).
Amazing!!!! We spent 3 nights in Santorini, 3 in Folegandros and 3 in Athens. I wish we had spent less time in Santorini and more time in Folegandros. Santorini was crawling with women dressed in picture perfect dresses, ready for their selfies. The weather was great, the water was warm enough to swim in, and the food, OH THE FOOD!!!! I was not prepared for how good the food was, since I am not a huge fan of Greek food.
I learned that Greek Food in California does not equal Greek Food in Greece. Ha!
@annabenanna Yay! It sounds like you had so much fun! My only qualm would be the long flight while pregnant. We drove 6-7 hours to Charleston last week and it about killed my lower back/tailbone/pelvis. I hope the long flight to Greece wasn't so bad for you!
@bamacoop , you know I thought it could have been worse! I had compression socks ready.... and that helped a lot.. but my back was beat up.
We returned Sunday night and I went to go see my doctor yday for a pre-natal check up, and she told me my legs were swollen a bit, but she thinks it's just from the flight.
I was fairly mobile and the belly was not a hindrance... but damn I wish I could have drank wine. I had a few sips, but I was really wishing I could enjoy a glass or two. I got bit by a mosquito TWICE, and was mildly freaking out.... but SO reminded me that it was probably nothing and that I needed to calm down. Funny thing is, I didn't even mention it to my doc yday! Maybe I should have? Now I'm paranoid. Ha.
I got really bad acid reflux (that it woke me up in middle of the night!) one of the nights, and I got really scared because I was in pain. Luckily, it went away.
Oh and, I ate all the feta cheese. Didn't even ask if it was pasteurized!
@bamacoop I am doing that tomorrow....but I'm super excited to get there! It usually takes us 5.5-6 hours to get there but with potty breaks and walking breaks I'm planning on like 7 at least.

@annabenanna Been having heartburn like crazy lately, so I finally caved and got some Pepcid, which I've never taken before but is working out pretty well. And I'm sure the bites are NBD, so don't worry about those! And yes to wine! You could've brought some back unopened in your suitcase. I brought back some ouzo and Greek beer when I went in college. TSA went through my stuff, but thankfully left my drinks!
@ibabyloveb87 Hopefully you'll have a better time than we did! Not that we didn't have fun and our hosts weren't nice-they were!- but it was legit torrential downpour the day we went downtown. Not. Fun. At. All. But we got to go back for a little bit another day when it wasn't raining and the harbor is super nice to walk along. Get lots of walking breaks in on your car ride! And have fun!!
I'm wearing sandals I bought last year for the first time this year, just simple strap ones, with a strap around the heel... I can feel every strap! They're like digging into my skin... Have my feet gotten fatter?? They don't look too swollen, but something is up because they were not this tight and uncomfortable last year. I'm debating just taking them off and going barefoot in the office.
@books&icecream I blocked out most of my labor and delivery as well, but from what I remember, @TurtleMommais spot on about pushing. Pushing is definitely anaerobic. Laboring is supposed to be aerobic (if you've got your breathing down), but honestly, contractions are probably anaerobic even if you're a champion breather because it's hard to breath through pain. Mine was mostly grunting and screaming for six hours, but I skipped early labor (I was already dilated to 3 cm about a month before I went into labor), so that's probably atypical.
My random question: my two year-old has been especially defiant lately. I don't know if this is just the usual terrible two boundary pushing that most toddlers go through or if it has something to do with the new baby. Anyone have experience with this?
You guys, I need to stay off of facebook. A woman I used to work with posted a rant about how the stanford rape victim is at fault because she got drunk and DIDN'T RESPECT HER OWN BODY! I. EFFING. CAN'T. This is a woman mind you. A woman who I have personally seen get plastered, laying on the floor of a public bathroom and puking. I. CAN'T.

@MRSCORKERSTFU! Are you serious?! Gross and what is wrong with both of these women?! I'm SO glad we don't have any of that on here. I really have faith that if/when some of us decide to move to FB, none of this will occur. That, or some people are hiding their crazy really well.... hopefully the former.
Thanks all for the feedback! Maybe I can pull this off. My doctor recommended getting an epidural (I was planning to go med free) and going to the smaller hospital where I'd be able to meet all of the midwives ahead of time and let them know the situation. I am TERRIFIED of getting an epidural but a c-section would be worse.
@annabenanna I am so jealous of your trip! I'm married to a German who is not at all happy about giving 50% of our salaries to Greece's inability to manage money or refugees, so he refuses to ever go. But I want to!!! Must find a non-German travel buddy
@books&icecream From my personal experience, I would say both. With my first, it was med-free and honestly I didn't feel like I had ANY breaks to take a sufficient breath despite constantly being coached to breathe for 30 minutes of pushing, the majority of that labor felt pretty aerobic to me. Before that, between contractions were like sprinting. BUT, I also hadn't taken any birthing classes or anything and didn't know how to breathe correctly, and med-free was NOT my plan, I just didn't have time for meds before LO was on her way. With my second, I got an epi and it didn't even feel anaerobic until right up to pushing time and was MUCH easier to breathe correctly. I don't know how you plan to go about your labor, but I feel pain tolerance will have an effect on how you are able to breathe, it does for me at least. I tend to hold my breath. If you have respiratory problems, I would try eliminating as much pain and stress from labor as possible to make things go as smoothly as they can. That's just my experience, and my opinion though. Also, I hope I distinguished between aerobic and anaerobic correctly. If not just omit those, I think my point is made without those terms anyway I hope.
@books&icecream - the thing with labor is that if you need to stop and catch your breath, you have plenty of opportunity to do so. Try not to worry too much about the breathing aspect, it's definitely NOT marathon-ish (otherwise I think lots of people couldn't ever do it....including me). I think your doctor probably is giving you good direction with the epidural, due to the fact that less pain = better breathing.
@bamacoop we brought home some ouzo to cook with! We basically interviewed all the grandmas/mamas at the mom&pop restos we ate at, and they all said the same thing: cook with ouzo or vodka, always add a sundried tomato or two. We were gonna get white wine too, but they figured TRader Joe's would probably carry some. LOL.
@LMNObaby - one of the days in Greece when I ate a particularly salty meal, and was on my feet like all day... my feet got swollen and my sandals felt tighter. Ugh. I hated it! Go barefoot!
@mrscorker, OMG, I can't either. You need to block her, unfriend her, or say something!
@books&icecream Girl, I was surprised to see so many homeless in Athens. I really was---but I guess I shouldn't be. It was crazy to see not only homeless men and women.... but the women would have their babies in tow too. That said, there was none of that at the islands. Or in the more affluent parts of Athens. We got there on a Friday night and there was so much bustle at the restaurants, that we were like "what depression in Greece are they talking about? everyone is spending money!"
@annabenanna I said something and wish I hadnt. I'm so non-confrontational and she's getting all defensive and bratty about it.
don't feel bad... you just said what everyone else was thinking. I'm sure they'll come to your defense over it.
If she is going to post something like that, surely she wasn't ignorant enough to think there wasn't going to be a conflict of opinion... don't feel like you have to defend your opposition, she was already being a brat even posting that.

People are actually agreeing with her! It's blowing my mind. She's saying it "isn't rape because he used his finger" like, WHAT?! I can PROMISE her that if she woke up with someone fingering her behind a dumpster without her consent, she wouldn't care if it was his finger, his penis or his damn toe. She would feel raped and want him punished as such. I need to step away from FB because I'm getting stabby.

She has a son and a daughter too. I sincerely hope she is teaching them both what consent means and that it doesn't matter if you were "making out at a party". That that doesn't mean it's ok to continue with sexual activity once the person passed out. Ugh.

Also, this baby, I feel him up higher now...like by my belly button. Such a weird funny/fun feeling!
Hope everyone is doing great!
