We have to do ICSI (if I make any eggs ) because he has weird swimmers. Also you would probably know cause it costs about $1000 more - at least at my clinic.
Me & DH - 41, DH has a cyst blocking his tubes, I'm just old. IVF #1 scheduled May 2016 - 375/525 follistim, 75 menopur - cancelled cycle Day 6 IVF #2 scheduled July 2016 - new protocol, switcharoo...IUI June 2016 - BFN IVF#3 scheduled August 2016 - estrogen & testosterone primed for 3 wks - ganirelix 7 days leading up to stim - 500 follistim, 75 menopur, 150 clomid , no follicle growth on day 6, stopped injectibles. Taking a mental health break. IVF#5 December 2016 - New protocol, same results. My adventure is over.
Hey everyone. We also had ICSI done on my eggs to fertilize them. It's included in the package, so we said why not. Also, we are fling PGS testing, and I believe ICSI is required for that.
In other news, I am finally back to normal after OHSS! I've lost 9 pounds of fluid and I'm back to my normal weight. I'm so happy about that!!
Congrats of egg retrieval and fertilizations today. Grow embies grow!

I will be triggering tonight with egg retrieval early Sat!! I hope my hubs can handle the shot.. lol. I have done them all myself so far so he's pretty clueless haha.

Hey Everyone! So, I had my baseline appt. this morning and I think it went pretty well. My Doc was able to see 17 antral follicles split b/e the Left and Right ovaries. I did start my Lupron shot this morning and have felt a bit fatigued. I'm not sure if it is from the medication or my recent travel for work, but feeling lethargic, for sure I have an IVF buddy coming over tonight to help with my other shots for the 1s time, so I am feeling happy to have a friend in this.
My next appt. is Monday and Thursday || and he thinks the ER will be anytime between Next Saturday- Monday. 11-13th. Getting excited but nervous too:)
Good luck to everyone with their transfers!

I opted to do the delestrogen shots instead of the Vivelle patches for our FET. Has anyone else here done the delestrogen? It is an IM shot but only twice a week, and we save about $1000 so it is totally worth it to me. But I'm definitely not looking forward to the days where I have to do a SQ Lupron, IM PIO *and* the IM delestrogen shots. Only I think 2 days that happens, but sheesh!
Me: Age 38 Husband: Age 39 Chemo killed my ovaries Currently:1 female embryo frozen at blastocyte stage, graded 6AA with a BRCA1 mutation 4/16 ER cancelled on CD7: 1 follicle on L/ 0 follicles on R Now planning FET 7/6/16 Also starting ER in June (my sister is donating eggs), and will try for a boy/second pregnancy
@knottie1456036854 I'll be doing the delestrogen shots too starting June 11. I'm not looking forward to the days those and the PIO overlap....ouch! I was originally prescribed suppositories but my RE decided the IM shots will be better for me after switching to an FET. My DH said he is already mentally preparing himself, lol!
My baseline u/s was today, and I'm good to start stims on Saturday. About 10-12 natural follicles, normal for me.
Regarding ICSI, my clinic requires it for frozen sperm. So we're doing it. I'd probably choose it anyway, since I'm not expecting a lot of eggs, with my DOR.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low

7 IUIs, 7 BFNs. 2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs. Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire. Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus! fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP! Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)
We are doing icsi. My clinic only does it when there is male factor infertility. My RE says it was the IVF "game changer" and is confident in the procedure being no different as far as risks go.
I want to ask everyone about PGS. At this point my dr is not recommending, as success rates at my clinic are the same for my age (35) weather PGS is done or not. I have no egg quality or quantity issues. I am just nervous though bc we are super lucky in that our insurance is covering A LOT for this, our first round. After this we have zero insurance coverage for any further procedures, so I'd ideally love to make this one a success!
Also, happy to report I had a positive be ovulation test today! Should start AF and BCP in about 11 days

@Andreap681 At 35 years of age, statistically speaking half of your embryos will have a chromosome abnormality. Maybe they put two embryos in and one is normal and sticks and you get your perfect baby. But there is no way by looking with the naked eye for them to pick a chromosomally normal embryo. I would say PGS all the way.
We did both PGS and PGD and ended up with one chromosomally abnormal embryo (graded 5AA as a 5 day blast) and one chromosomaly normal embryo (graded 6AA). Worth every penny to me to know that we are putting in an embryo that has a fighting chance to become a little girl someday.

I went to my first acupuncture appt today. Felt super relaxed after but now I can't sleep . The acupuncturist told me that she hopes I wake up tomorrow morning and feel well rested and then I'll know it worked. Can't say I think I'll be well rested if I can't get to sleep now! Oh well...at least I was relaxed during and right after. I booked an appt to return before my transfer next week so hopefully that will help! Maybe it won't be as immediate a change for me.

Hello all - I began BCPs on May 24 and tentatively scheduled for a fresh transfer on June 21. Now I am reading posts about OHSS which hadn't even occurred to me. If you are showing signs of OHSS is it usually the case that the dr will opt to skip the fresh transfer and wait a few months to do a frozen once your body recovers? I am wishing the best for all on this board - hopefully positive outcomes for all!!
@kfras With OHSS doctors will typically switch to a frozen transfer. In my case, I have to wait an additional month past the typical 3 weeks b/c my case was pretty bad.
About PGS, I'm 35 and we have chosen it. The cost is about the same as a second FET and we are hoping to transfer one embryo. I ditto @Knottie1456036854 that at 35th, half of my embryos should be abnormal statistically speaking.

@annebenton22 hope your first night of shots went well! You'll be a pro in no time!
@cmm012 I am so glad to hear you are feeling better and have turned the corner with the OHSS!
@chicandbubbly yay for triggering! Hope your DH was able to do the shot. Good luck this weekend with your retrieval! FX for lots of mature eggs and fertilization!
@emgem819 I felt super relaxed during my first acupuncture appointment as well but didn't feel much different after. My lady said especially since I'm not being treated for something specific like pain, I might not be able to notice any difference. I'll see how next week goes.
I'm not doing ICSI as it wasn't recommended by my RE since my DH has pretty good swimmers. We had 13 of 18 mature eggs fertilize naturally. I think ICSI is fairly common, especially with any male issues and the risks with it are fairly low. My RE also didn't recommend PGS or PGD due to my age and no known family history of issues. We did do genetic testing prior to starting treatment and both came back with no issues. If I'm not successful with any of the frosties I have (8) and end up having to do another fresh cycle, I'll most likely opt for it since I will be closer to 35 at that point.
AFM, I start stims tonight finally! I am nervous and excited to start this new part of our journey. Thanks to all of you for being a fantastic support system!

@annebenton22 - Good luck with starting the meds! you're kind of in the final stretch...FX for lots of growing follicles!
@andreap681- if insurance covers it, i would say go for the pgs testing. The way I see it, we all go through so much to get to this point (meds, ER, hormonal swings, money spent, etc) that it would very much so put my mind at ease that the embryo that we transfer back is the one that had the best chance at implanting/surviving...
@msirni0 - good luck with starting the stims tonight!!!
Hey ladies, good morning! I have just uploaded a new blog post about starting my new IVF cycle, how I am dealing with my emotions, stress, and how my first appointment went. It is kind of a "diary" in a way, so I can get my emotions out on paper and not explode If you want to comment, please feel free to do so! Have a great day!

My hubs handled the HCG shot great. It was hilarious right before he did it he read the instructions over and over again. But it was fine, didn't really hurt.
We are doing ICSI as well. Our issue is male factor so our doctor didn't really give us an option, but I would have done it anyways to increase our changes.
Also, I have been doing acupuncture once a week for a few weeks now. I think I have gone maybe 5 or 6 times. It has definitely relaxed me and I truly think it has helped the symptoms from stims not be as bad! I go to one that specifies in fertility acupuncture and she is amazing! I highly recommend it.
Hope your first night of stims went well @msirni0. I iced before hand and put heat on afterwards and that helped a lot.

Question for you ladies: My RE said after my ET "we'll assume that you're pregnant until we get confirmation 10 days later, so you'll need to avoid alcohol, semi-soft cheeses, deli meats, sushi, etc, and take care to keep your heart rate below 140 beats per minute when you exercise." DH and I both have summer parties for work taking place on the Friday after my ET: both open bar. I'm on the planning committee for mine, so very involved. I really was looking forward to having a drink to celebrate--I usually only drink a few times a year, so it's not a common thing for me. Do you think this would be okay or should I really abstain from alcohol? Plus, I'm thinking all my coworkers will think it's odd if I am even having one drink and wonder if I'm pregnant! (even if I really am, I plan to not tell until at least 6 weeks out) Please let me know your thoughts on this! Thank you!

@emgem819 you put so much effort into doing a cycle, do you really want to risk it for a few drinks? If you're worried about appearances, get a cranberry and tell them it's vodka and cranberry, or a coke and say it's rum and coke. I like a good open bar as much as the next person, but I would rather skip the drinks and not have to do a second cycle or ET. Just my personal opinion. Ultimately it is up to you. I mean, people do drink when they're pregnant and don't know it yet, but given that most of us are doing IVF because we can't get pregnant normally it adds another factor to the equation. To sum it up if it were me I'd skip the drinks and fake it. (I will be doing that if I am pregnant at the end of the month, because we have a wedding to go to and don't want to tell family until we are at least 12 weeks)

@emgem819 - I personally wouldn't drink if the RE told me. I always feel that I would jinx it somehow...lol. But i guess there are plenty of people that would have a drink...(hell, my Matron of Honor was pregnant at my wedding and has a glass or two of wine, and her baby turned out fine...but I wouldn't risk it...)
If it was me (or what I plan on doing if/when I'm pregnant) I would ask the bartender to give me a (diet)coke in a short glass with a lime, so most people would assume it's a rum and coke or whatnot...
(ETA: ^^ what she said. i had started typing then got pulled away to fix something on our plotter and @sleepyrn beat me to posting! )
@ale9687 ya... my nurse said no deodorant for me OR my DH! I am just going to bring it and put it on after surgery.
emgem819 I stopped drinking when I started stims and hopefully won't be drinking again for 9 months . I don't want to risk it. One drink is probably fine, but it is up to you. I could definitely go for a glass of wine right now though .
Has anyone tried the alcohol free wine? I think it's called Fre and they sell it at target. I bought a bottle of the champagne and am saving it for when we get our bfp.

@chicandbubbly I wore scented deodorant and makeup (no mascara) to my ER with no issues. They just don't want you covered in scented lotions and perfumes... not really even sure why, but that's what they told me. I wouldn't stress over it!
@emgem819 I agree with pps. I am doing everything in my power to make this embryo stick. Alcohol could damage those chances. I know it sucks, but that's part of the deal! I just don't want to look back and say "what if", ya know? I'm planning on getting pretty inventive for any future events because I don't want to tell anyone until after the 1st trimester either. Fake it, girl! GL! You got this.

@emgem819I personally would not drink. I agree that after all the effort, a couple drinks is not worth the potential risks to the baby. I'm a horrible drinker, so I have drank tea or coke out of shot glasses before. Where there is a will, there is a way.
@chicandbubbly I wore an antiperspirant for my ER, but it was unscented. I stayed away from everything else though. No lotion or even body wash in the shower. Just plain soap.

Thanks ladies! You're all right, I think I just needed the re-affirmation to stay away from alcohol and follow RE's advice. I need to do everything I can do to make this cycle count and staying away from alcohol is part of that. I'll try to get inventive--maybe even ask for a "virgin" pina colada if they'll do it! Sounds very tasty right now!
@emgem819 - I actually sometimes like the frozen virgin drinks BETTER than the alcoholic ones! especially like, a strawberry daquiri....sometimes they're made too strong (not technically a bad thing..!) but sometimes that makes it more bitter than a virgin...
@emgem819 I didn't even think about frozen drinks. No one would question it if you were slamming those down.

@mtpbadger The PIO shots really aren't too bad, but you should prepare your DH to see blood and you be ready with a paper towel to press on the injection site. It is normal to bleed, but may be a shock after tummy only injections that don't bleed. Also, be prepared for lots and lots of apologizing. My DH does it every single time he does a PIO shot. It gets old, especially once it starts to not hurt much, but I think it makes them feel better that you know they feel bad about doing it.
@Andreap681 If you insurance will cover PGS, do it. I wish I had, as we've transferred 6 embryos and none of them have stuck around longer than 9 weeks.

@rmarble23 WOW really? Looked into it and I found this on their FAQ page.
Is there any alcohol in Fre?
Although we remove most of the alcohol during our spinning cone
process, a small fraction of a percentage of alcohol remains—less than
one half of one percent (<0.5 %). That’s roughly equivalent to the
alcohol content of orange juice left on the counter overnight! If you
have any health concerns regarding alcohol intake, we recommend you
consult your physician before consuming Fre.

@emgem819 I would just follow my own doctor's instructions because they are based off of his personal experiences with cases over the years. My doctor's experience could be different, ya know!? I also like mixing a little orange, cranberry juice w/o the alcohol. kind of makes me think i am drinking but not haha!

@emgem819 personally I would do no alcohol. I was told no caffeine or alcohol. We had a wedding right after my FET. When there wasn't family around I asked the bartender for something caffeine free or non-alcoholic. She gave me a mimosa with no alcohol and said congrats. I'm told you are allowed 1 glass of red wine but I don't risk it. @chicandbubbly My RE doesn't have restrictions on what not to wear for ER. I just don't typically wear makeup to it. But I have my deodorant, jewelry and toes polished.

I understand that in the U.S. we go a little overboard telling pregnant women to never drink one drop of alcohol ever. But at the same time, when you're over here in Camp Infertility, we want to do everything we can to maximize our chances. Studies have shown that moderate drinking can have a negative impact on IVF success.
So, no alcohol for me, even in the month leading up to this (and I've cut way, way down over the last year and a half).
Someday, when I have kids and they're weaned and my body is mine again, I am going to spring for an overnight babysitter every once in a while, and get really, really loaded at the wildest dance club I can find. (Where everyone will wonder why that middle-aged lady is acting so crazy.) But for now, I'm sober as dirt.

Chemo killed my ovaries
Currently:1 female embryo frozen at blastocyte stage, graded 6AA with a BRCA1 mutation
4/16 ER cancelled on CD7: 1 follicle on L/ 0 follicles on R
Now planning FET 7/6/16
Also starting ER in June (my sister is donating eggs), and will try for a boy/second pregnancy
Regarding ICSI, my clinic requires it for frozen sperm. So we're doing it. I'd probably choose it anyway, since I'm not expecting a lot of eggs, with my DOR.
7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.

Me: 1, possibly 2, blocked tubes
DH: severe MFI
Married and TTC since 2/15
Started stims 7/21/16, ER 8/2 --> 17 eggs, 5 blasts after PGS testing.
Fresh transfer 8/8/16: Chemical Pregnancy
FET #1 9/13: PGS tested 5AA, BFN
Endometrial biopsy 10/18/16: normal result
ERA test 10/18/16: "receptive" result
FET #2 1/3/17: natural cycle, BFP!!! TWINS!! EDD: 9/21 (8/31 with twin adjustment)

FET #3: Baseline appt 12/28/16, Estrace/PIO shots: 1/17/17 ET, 1st beta 1/27/17: 146 BFP, 2nd beta 1/29/17: 336, 1st U/S: 2/16/17, 2 healthy twin babies measuring 7w0d. EDD: 10/5/17
About PGS, I'm 35 and we have chosen it. The cost is about the same as a second FET and we are hoping to transfer one embryo. I ditto @Knottie1456036854 that at 35th, half of my embryos should be abnormal statistically speaking.

Welcome to all the new ppl! It sounds like people will be busy this weekend either starting stims or having retrievals! You are all in my thoughts!
@klake42 good luck starting stims this weekend!
Happy Friday everyone!
@cmm012 I'm SO glad you're feeling better!
AFM, I start stims tonight finally! I am nervous and excited to start this new part of our journey. Thanks to all of you for being a fantastic support system!

@chicandbubbly - yay for triggering last night! how did your hubby handle it?
@annebenton22 - Good luck with starting the meds! you're kind of in the final stretch...FX for lots of growing follicles!
@andreap681- if insurance covers it, i would say go for the pgs testing. The way I see it, we all go through so much to get to this point (meds, ER, hormonal swings, money spent, etc) that it would very much so put my mind at ease that the embryo that we transfer back is the one that had the best chance at implanting/surviving...
@msirni0 - good luck with starting the stims tonight!!!

If it was me (or what I plan on doing if/when I'm pregnant) I would ask the bartender to give me a (diet)coke in a short glass with a lime, so most people would assume it's a rum and coke or whatnot...
(ETA: ^^ what she said. i had started typing then got pulled away to fix something on our plotter and @sleepyrn beat me to posting!
emgem819 I stopped drinking when I started stims and hopefully won't be drinking again for 9 months
Has anyone tried the alcohol free wine? I think it's called Fre and they sell it at target. I bought a bottle of the champagne and am saving it for when we get our bfp.

That’s roughly equivalent to the alcohol content of orange juice left on the counter overnight! If you have any health concerns regarding alcohol intake, we recommend you consult your physician before consuming Fre.
I also like mixing a little orange, cranberry juice w/o the alcohol. kind of makes me think i am drinking but not haha!

7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
