Re: Baby names

  • I haven't seen our name picks on this thread at all, so I'll share...
Raina Noella (DD is Marissa Valentina, born in Feb)
    Or
Lorenzo "Enzo" Alberto (my DH middle name, as well)
    I can't wait to find out!! :)

  • Our boy name is 100% decided, Rhett Wilder. We both absolutely love that name. For a girl, we want some form of Madeleine, with the last part pronounced "lyn" instead of "line." Just disagreeing on spelling. He likes Kinsley for a middle name and I like Christine. We would nickname her Maddie.

@steffanieamador I love your name picks, especially your girl middles! We're considering Noelle for a middle but I'm due at the very beginning of the month so it might not make sense. We typically use family names for middles but since I've already got two girls (and DD1 has two middles) we're short on choices if this one also turns out to be a girl.

If it's a girl well go with Amelia Rose (Rose is DH's grandmother's name). If it's a boy we are thinking Nathan Gabriel. My husband suggested Gabriel which is the name of my RE. It's unlikely we would have a child without him and he is one of the nicest men I've ever met.
  • Our boys name has been chosen for many many years: Lucca Jacob
Lucca honours his cousin Luke who passed away 10 years ago and Jacob is the husbands grandfather's middle name (starting that as a tradition, boys middle name is grandfather's middle name. It's worked the last 3 generations so we want to keep that going)

Our girls name we are still deciding on for the first name. Middle name will be Shawn to honour a very close friend of mine who passed away 13 years ago.

I would really like a celtic first name (Scottish,  Welsh, etc) and have been looking into some recently but our prior shortlist for girls is:
    Ela
    Aria (potentially a different spelling)
  • So far we have Loretta Emily for a girl and Emmett George or Samuel George for a boy. I also like Mason but my husband just thinks of black ops the video game
  • We're keeping the names a secret, but here is a list of what we love (Read I Love)

Boys- Luca, Ryan, Evan, Nathaniel/Nathan, Trevor, and Angelo. DH loves Vincent- which I hate
Girls- Alice, Sophie, Mila, Charlotte, Giselle, Addison, and Isadora though that wouldn't go with out last name at all.

We know a girl would be Ella! I like Ella Joy, but DH hasn't said one way or the other about Joy as a middle name.

For a boy, all we know is John would be one of the names. We each had a grandfather named John. DH said he likes the idea of JB as a nickname because he was called JB growing up (B from last name). We'll see!
Love it! My daughter is Ella Grace.

  • I started a list a few days ago, which included a few of the names from my first pregnancy. Nothing decided as of yet, but our front runner is Brier. I had Briar listed as a girl's name, and my hubby liked it for a boy's name (Brier).

    Ours is Peyton Thomas :)

We are considering Preston, Parker, Cooper, and Carter for a boy.

For girls we are leaning towards Ariana/Arianna. That's my fav but we are having a hard time with coming up with more A name options. I love Adele but  seeing as Ariana is already associated with a singer (NOT my reason for the selection  lol), I feel like that's pushing it
  • Girl- either Leighton Elise, Ava James or Ophelia James

    Boy- Brendan Myles

  • Violet Betty for a girl. Purple is both of our favorite colors, as well as being my dads (who passed a few years ago) Betty is a family name and i think they sound nice together. For a boy we are thinking Tristen but unsure of a middle name.

I'm back looking at this board because we are back square one with our possible boy name....

Is is it totally dumb to name your kid after a family member knowing you are only going to go by a nick name?
For example DH grandfathers name was
Axel Willard and we would call our son Will.

Shouldnt we we just name our kid Will if that's what we plan to call him any way? That is if it is a him....
  • We finally worked out our girl name! Boy name will stay Rhett Wilder, girl name is Maddox James with a nickname of Maddie. :)

I hear ya. DH is a second and he so badly wants this baby to be a third if it's a boy. I don't because he and his dad do business at several of the same companies and their stuff is always getting mixed up. Secondly, I have no idea what we could call him. Their name is James. FIL goes by Jim and DH goes by James. I am not okay with Jimmy because it's a nickname for penis lol any other nickname is a stretch
  • We've just started tossing a few names around. I like Melody Grace for a girl and we're still discussing boys names. I like Timothy Lee, but DH isn't too fond of that one.

What about Jamie?  I love James but it's my first born's middle name for I can't use it again.
  • @doodleoodle Depending on middle name choices, you could do JJ.

I thought about Jamie, but it just isn't our style. Don't you hate that though! When I was pregnant with DD I wanted to name her Rose, but I couldn't think of a middle name to go with it so I used it as the middle name. I have since thought of a middle name to go with Rose. Sadness :(

@ashleaf2018 The middle name would be the same as their's and it begins with an A. We already call DD LJ for Little James because she looks just like him, so that's out. DH suggested Jack, but with our last name it sounds like an alcoholic beverage, which for whatever reason made DH like it more when I pointed it out

I suggested Très for the third and Chip for chip off the old block and he declined both. So, I feel like he must not care as much as he's making it sound like. I have spent so much time looking for nicknames and he hasn't spent any so at this point it's up to him. I'm done lol

Thank you both for the suggestions though!

  • Exactly!  I love both of my boys' middle names!  I guess the lesson learned is to only use names that you "like" instead of love for middle names ;)

@doodleoodle We are going through something similar with our boy name. I cannot figure out a nickname for John, it's a DH family name. The initials do not work for a nickname and middle name is DH's.
  • Late to this thread!
    Girl- Mabel Ruth
Boy- Topher Elias or Asher Ellison
  • @kbduke @doodleoodle Maybe Jay? That would work for either John or James since it's just the first letter. I'm going to keep brainstorming unless one of you figures it out first!

  • @doodleoodle My older brother is a third and we used to call him Trey. He now goes by his first name which works out cause dad and grandpa used to go by their middle names.  You could also have you son go by the middle name if you want.
    EQD born 12/15!

  • @kbduke: Did you know that Jack is technically short for John? That is what my dad (who is a junior) went by as a kid.
    EQD born 12/15!

  • @Zygodactyl  we have the same situation! We need names that go in both English and Spanish culture, and our families are so big that all the names are taken.
Our DD's are Ana Mirabel and Evelyn Sofia.
I really like Rubi/Ruby for a girl, but we have a cousin named that and aren't too fond of her :/

DH likes Lincoln for a boy, but it doesn't fit in Spanish culture at all. I like Oscar, but again, a family member already has it.

    Other names we like:
    Nora
    Kennedy
    Luis
    Amelia
    Penelope
    Diego (also taken)

  • @kbduke how frustrating! Let's hope we both have girls lol. All I can think of for John that hasn't been suggested already is Johnny. I also knew a boy growing up named John that everyone called John John. It's pretty juvenile, but it would work for a little while!

@jem525 I suggested it and DH of course doesn't like it. I'm beginning to think he only wants me to think he wants to carry on the tradition.

@ashleaf2018 Jay is actually a pretty good idea. Thanks! I'll try slip it casually into conversation with DH because I may or may not have thrown a tantrum and said I was done trying to help him name our baby a name that I didn't even want the baby to have lol

@PharmDMom I love the ring it has. Lee is our middle name choice for a boy(it's my dad's middle name), or possibly a girl. And actually, I like Ann(my best friend's middle name) as a girl's middle name, so maybe Melody Ann if it's a girl. :)

I don't have this situation, but my brother is the 8th in first name and the 5th in first and middle combo.  My grandfather goes by Dan, my Dad goes by his middle name, my brother goes by Dan or Danny (for family).   My brother will never have kids and my other brother only has one daughter so I was thinking of doing Daniel as a middle name if we have a boy (or two).  Family name traditions are cool but it puts stress on naming children/having the 'right' sex to pass it down.

I agree. It's ridiculous. No one outside of my husband knows I'm pregnant. Last pregnancy though, before we knew it was a girl, the amount of pressure I was receiving to name the baby the third was not okay. I really hate the whole idea for so many reasons. My in-laws only had grandsons prior to DD being born, but they were all disappointed that we were having a girl and she wouldn't be able to pass down the family name. It made me sad.

I think that in your situation Daniel as a middle name would be nice. That way you can still pick the first name. I would have no qualms with doing this myself BTW. If neither baby is a boy you could still pay tribute with MN Danielle or Daniela.
  • Posted when it first started, but another name I have grown to love is: Leighton (for a girl).

Unfortunately, I still have only one boy name selected (Wyatt), and am HOPING my cousin and his wife don't name their son that when they're due at the end of July. They had a name picked up when they announced they were having a boy (Huck), but some family didn't like it. I thought it was cute, but rhymes with a certain swear word and that could go terribly wrong. Although, I also am loving the names Rhett (boy) and Emily, lately too.

  • We decided to go with an E name, since both the husband and I have E names. Go theme!

Girl - Evelyn Julia  (middle name for my mother)
Boy - Ethan Michael  (middle name for husband's friend who was killed by a drunk driver last year)

My mom is convinced it's a boy, and hustand has starting saying he. I'm not so sure!
  • We're having a girl and are set on Gabriella Rose. We will call her Ella for short. Gabriel which is what Gabriella is based off of means God is my strength so my husband is already planning a tattoo with that saying. Now I'm trying to convince him to get my name somewhere on him... I told him I'll settle with Sam- a nice gender fluid name  ;)

  • I have been set on my girl name for 20 years.  It is Lucille Josephine, after my grandmothers.  In fact before we even started trying I made sure my SO was ok with it because it is so important to me to name a daughter after them.  For a boy we will use his father's name Dirk - just not sure if it will be a first or middle name.  SO gets to pick since the girl name was kind of non negotiable.  The funny part is I never would have picked Dirk as a name but it has really grown on me.  Probably because I really liked SO's father and I think it would be a nice way to honor him (he passed away a year and a half ago).
  • We won't start talking about it until we know what we're having around 20 weeks!
  • Our girl name had been set since before DS was born, it's a combo of family names - Emmaleigh Kathryn.

Struggling with our boy name this time around. Mine, DH and DS names all start with J. We didn't pick DS's name because it started with a J but rather for family name/sentimental reasons. Trying to decide if another J name would be too matchy matchy.... DH likes Jackson for this baby, DS's name is Jacob
