I just get ultrasounds.... but it would be awesome to get nst with it... I have been having a whole lot of bh or contractions with little to no pain just a little discomfort...
I don't know why they have me there 2 times a week besides what I said... my only other thing has been my thyroid which took a serious dump...
Oh and I think I automatically fall into some category because I have a daughter with Turner Syndrome. .. I think that adds into the whole deal somewhere. .. anyway
@mebaby333 An NST is generally where they hook you up to fetal monitors for a set period of time and monitor the baby's heartbeat, movement and your contractions. For me (I get one every week), they have to record at least 20 minutes of the baby's heartbeat on the monitor, so if he's moving around a lot (always), I generally end up sitting there longer because he evades the heartbeat monitor. It's totally different from the ultrasound (which measures the rest of the markers/indicators for the BPP)--which is different equipment, visually looks at the baby's size, movements, etc. In my experience with my practice and the high risk doc I also go to, they often combine the results from the NST (non stress test) and the ultrasound measurements to get the complete BPP (biophysical profile) number. So there are 4 things they look for in the ultrasound part, worth 2 points each, and then the NST is 2 points as well. Basically, he must score 10/10 to pass. I get the full BPP every other week and the NST once a week, so the NST stands alone for my practice as a measure of baby's health as well. Again, this is speaking generally--I don't know if this holds true across all practitioners.
No, see, that would mean there was a potential issue for the baby. The NSTs and the (actual) BPPs monitor the baby. When there's a risk or a concern. Which is bad. Mommy's don't like risks and waiting for scary results. These are not things to hope for, they are not exciting or cool. Yes, us AMAs get frequent, quick US, [which are not generally full BPPs] to check that everything is ok and normal Bc we have somewhat more risk. But if you don't have other tests that's Bc everything appears ok. OK is good. OK is awesome! See?
You did read my whole post that you highlighted right? I know what it feels like when something is wrong... do you? I just meant it would be cool to be monitored because if what I have been feeling..
Wouldn't it be cool to get a colonoscopy just because your stomach hurt after eating Mexican food? No, it wouldn't be cool. Eat beans and rice, expect diarrhea. Get pregnant, expect Braxton Hicks contractions. It's expected.
Your comment of it being "cool" is wildly insensitive to all of the moms who are anxious through their NSTs because there is something their doctor deemed necessary to monitor their child for its safety. Not because it was cool.
THIS!
As a mom who anxiously waits through weekly NSTs to monitor the health/safety of my son, THANK YOU!
And my comment of nst would be cool that affects you how?
It doesn't. Your comments don't impact my life in the slightest. But it's incredibly ignorant. You think it's cool to have to worry about your unborn child daily? To know that something is wrong, & doctors need to monitor with weekly NSTs to ensure that your baby can continue to grow inside for another week? To wonder, with each NST, if this will be the one that you need to be admitted for an emergency c-section? ...yeah...not cool. And you thinking otherwise is moronic.

Because it isn't cool! What part of that do you not get? I've been low risk this entire pregnancy. My last visit, my belly suddenly was measuring smaller than it had 2 weeks previously which is not good. For the 3 minutes between being told this and getting set up in the ultrasound room, I was terrified that soemthing was very wrong with my baby. Sure I had been kind of bummed that I wouldnt get any more scans but I was okay with that because it meant my baby was healthy and the doctors weren't concerned. Wishing you could qualify for an extra test to ensure your baby is okay is really insensitive to those who have children who have potential problems that actually need monitoring. How do you not see that?
Wildly insensitive? wow... I guess my thought that some of you are just searching for a reason to be rude is true... I've been there... seriously that doesn't mean no one else can ever think it would be cool to be monitored. .. I've suffered loss and I've had a child with Turner Syndrome. .. your just looking for a reason to try and make me feel bad for some part of this convo...
We're not searching for a reason to be rude, but we certainly are going to defend our mamas who have been through hell the past few months and don't deserve your flippant dismissal of the importance of a test designed to check the safety of their child.
I don't doubt you've been through your own hellish times. But your lack of understanding and compassion is unsettling.
I just don't understand how it's wildly insensitive for me to say instead of having 2 bpp's a week having also been placed in a higher risk category it would be cool if one was an nst...

I've been high risk my entire pregnancy... the response was It would be cool to have nst instead of 2 bpp or whatever a week which I do have to have because of my qualifications in this pregnancy and unfortunately I know what it feels like for a Dr to look at me and tell me at 36 weeks my baby was the size of a 31 week baby...and she would die within 24 hours because they had no idea what was wrong... but that never qualifies me to be offended or hurt because someone else made a statement about a test I had to participate in due to it... it had nothing to do with what your experiencing though I am sorry your had to experience that it is scary and a helpless feeling...
And somehow me saying that was wildly insensitive but nothing said to me was, in all these pages of hateful comments... hmmm but your not looking for a reason to come at me ... ha..
Wow. I have no words at the amount of ignorance here. And I also don't understand how you wouldn't know the difference between an NST and a BPP if you so badly wanted one. Hoping to have extra testing for whatever asinine reason is just beyond me. Being a fourth-time mom, you'd think you'd already know you wouldn't wish health issues on your child. But hey, to each their own, I suppose.
Also, isn't it great that science can see into the womb and detect any issues beforehand? Because.....SCIENCE?!

We know you don't and won't.
It is not and never will be either awesome or cool to have to wait through tests on our babies due to real and valid health concerns. It's not the "royal treatment". Kinda like secondhand smoke, it is just bad. Everyone else on this thread wishes we can avoid it and pop out healthy little ones without fearing for them more than absolutely necessary. So you wishing your quick AMA ultrasounds or occasional measurement scans were problematic and required higher level BPP/NSTs instead is a.... (How shall I put this without getting banned?) a unique perspective that we cannot appreciate.

Woahhhhh this conversation became uglyyyy! Just going to put my 2 cents in not that it even matters lol but here it goes. Feeling the baby breathe in the womb would be awesome hell I can't even tell what is a hand and what is a foot, but each their own belief (just like religion) I am not one to judge. I think and could be way off the mark but the OP maybe doesn't understand what a NST is exactly for or the difference between it and the BPP and she would like to have the NST to give her more peace of mind that it may tell her something the BPP is not. Like I said I could be way off but that is what I took from the conversation. I have had multiple NST due to high blood pressure and to be honest I never fully understood what they were looking for until recently. I think third tri hormones are blowing up in this post and I must admit I have a case of them myself. I am also one to believe in the science and hard facts so I can easily see where some would find the initial start of this discussion crazy, but I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings because I disagree.

See the thing is that, unlike religion where there is no one right answer because nothing can be conclusively validated, science has a right and a wrong, a true and a not true, that dont change based on what you believe. You (general you) can believe that the sky is always orange but I'm sure as heck going to point out that you're wrong because you are. I won't spare your feelings because you believe in something that science says is wrong. That isn't how it works. If she wants to believe it, then by all means she can believe it but I'm going to point out why she's wrong every time she makes the assertion because it isn't true.
Can we not blame hormones for everything; it discredits people's real opinions and thoughts, that are mostly rational. Most of these posts have nothing to do with hormones, whether we were pregnant or not, almost all of us would say the same thing. Hormones may be responsible for you crying at the animal commercial, not making factual statements in an online forum.

Jesus Christ this can not be real.
(Just in case, please note sarcasm font on the second sentence)
Seriously, though. Some of the stuff they can do now is crazy. Too bad science is a sham....
Science is stupid!
We are all sassy judgemental betches!
ROFL.
That is all.
