Pregnancy Complaints Week of 5.16.16

I'm a day late on this (busy day at work yesterday). Any new pregnancy complaints/continuing complaints?

For me: I'm sick of trying to explain why I'm not 100%. Told someone yesterday it was that time of the month and she went on how I need to get pregnant. I'm so ready to shout it from the roof tops, if only so people can start giving me a break! lol

Me: 33 DH: 38 Married: 1/10/15

1st Pregnancy EDD: 1/1/17 Born 1/10/17 Team Green turned Blue!

2nd Pregnancy EDD: 11/6/18 Born 11/09/18 Baby Boy!

3rd Pregnancy EDD: 12/?/21

Children are like casseroles; it takes a lot to mess them up.

  • Gah! That's frustrating!

I'm starting to feel more and more tired as each day goes by, and I'm seriously not looking forward to that with all 4 boys this summer lol

Nausea had me glued to the bed when I got home from work yesterday. I actually fell asleep around 7:30p last night and only woke up to eat some salmon that DH had cooked for me before going back and sleeping the whole night.

  • The nausea is building up more and more this week and so have the headaches. Anyone else experiencing the headaches? I stayed home from work yesterday because they were so bad. I'm ready to move from the stage of looking like I just gained weight to actually looking pregnant. I'm down to 1 pair of jeans fitting me comfortably. Thinking of looking into belly bands.

My emotions are getting the best of me today. Everyone has been driving me nuts and I just want to go home and cry. I'm realizing that I'm not staying positive in this pregnancy and I need to change my mentality. I don't need to let the symptoms overtake my life. My husband has been great in enduring my negative/emotional attitude.

Hope all you ladies are having a better week!

  • @Emerald24 that's so aggravating! The 1 co-worker I told is driving me nuts as she keeps giving me unsolicited advice.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Ali Grindell Boo on the unsolicited advice. How about we let you know when we want your 2 cents, otherwise....nope. And I am having headaches too. Also been lightheaded/dizzy. Like when you stand up real fast and your blood pressure drops and you black out for half a second, except that happens to me for no apparent reason. Sorry to hear they were so bad you had to take off work yesterday. And I feel you on the emotions. I cried for really stupid reasons last night. But it felt good to release the emotion. Don't have any shame! DH is an angel when it comes to my mood swings, but I try to recognize/admit when I'm being unreasonable.

@PMForbie Not being able to use it as an excuse is the worst! I don't know what I'd do if someone told me I needed to get pregnant--you must have some crazy patience to not spill the beans with that one.

People I work with know I have been sick (like, in a non-pregnancy sense) but I had a video call with my manager this afternoon and accidentally used the word "nauseous" to describe how I was feeling and now I suspect he's on to me.

Kind of related, but is anyone else in a weird deliberation of when to share the news with work? Since I work for an online tech company, a lot of us are Facebook friends/follow each other on Twitter. I feel like it would be weird to do a FB reveal before telling my boss because some of my coworkers will find out and the word will get back to my manager and our HR department. I know a lot of people don't tell their work until 12-15 weeks but I am kind of hoping to share the news with people sooner than that. Is it a big faux pas to tell work at 10-11 weeks (after a good ultrasound hopefully)?
  • @canavara I think there are a lot of factors in play. It depends on whether or not you consider yourself personal friends with your coworkers/boss or just work friends. I'd rather announce it myself in a staff meeting or something than for one person to see it on Facebook and then spread the gossip behind your back. Also, are you planning on becoming a SAHM? I have heard that some people like to give their boss a little more warning if they won't be returning after a maternity leave. Ultimately, I think it really depends on who (and how many people) you'd feel comfortable having the conversation with if something goes wrong. I certainly don't think you owe them any news until you're safely in the second trimester (at least).

  • @canavara, ditto @emerald24. I didn't announce at work with my first until about 15 weeks because I'd had a loss and I worked in a male-dominated, very physically demanding job and didn't want people to think that I couldn't 'hack it'. For that reason, I waited to announce on FB as well because there was so much overlap. Now I work in a completely different environment that is very supportive of family life- I'll be  fine with announcing at 12 weeks or after I get the results from my genetic screens and I've had a chance to process the information.

Also, when you announce at work, be ready to have a plan for what your maternity leave will look like and your plan for your return, if you do return. It really helps if your boss may be difficult to navigate. Otherwise, I think you'll find that people will just be excited at the possibility of the baby!

  • Thanks for the perspectives @Emerald24 and @Josie3=5! I'm not doing the SAHM deal. Both me and my OH are work-from-home engineers so we're planning on doing a responsibility trade-off with the LO as much as we can (I have no idea if this will actually work but we're at least going to try it after seeing some of our coworkers do the same). My company is very family-oriented (paid maternity leave, woo) and my manager and several other people up the chain are aware that my goal is to start a family in the very near future (a conversation that sort of had to come up because I was being asked if I had any interest in taking a position of more leadership, which I just didn't feel like I could commit to in the immediate future). So I'm expecting a lot of positive response when I do share the news, but yeah, I guess the timing is just crucial.

I like the idea of waiting until after genetic screening though. I'm not sure if my OB is going to recommend it (just one previous loss, but all the doctors I saw during that time said twin MCs are common and often not due to genetic abnormality :|) but if they did that'd certainly be a safe place to finally share the news.
  • Loving this work chat. On a related note, I'm getting stressed out about how I hide this from most people until 12 weeks. I have several weddings, work functions and birthdays pre 12 weeks and people will definitely know something is up if I'm not boozing. Are people finding excuses or picking drinks that look like they could be alcoholic? I'm supposed to go to a party next weekend at a brewery and I might just "come down with the flu."

  • @canavara FWIW, I told my boss and only my boss around 7 weeks with DS because I was so sick and missing work.  I felt like I needed to let her know why I was so sick.  However, I have a really good relationship with my boss and know she wouldn't tell anyone else without my permission.  I actually never formally announced my pregnancy to work...just kind of let people figure it out.  I told HR and my immediate coworkers and that was it.  All of this to say I think there is no right or wrong answer.  If you want to tell after an ultrasound at 10-11 weeks I think that's fine and not a faux pas!

On the work discussion. I'm not planning to tell until 20-25 weeks if I can physically hide it. I work in a physically demanding field and is mostly male dominated. Totally accepting of women... but. Also my job duties will have to change and it will put stress on my coworkers.
Added to this I have a coworker in another position that works alongside us who had her DD almost 2 years ago. She is still pumping - EVERY TWO HOURS!  Why? I get pumping, fine. But every 2 hours at almost 2 years old! The thing is we have to cover her job when she had to go pump... in our shift she legitimately is gone half the shift  (we've tracked). This sets a bad precedent when I announce.
  • @Mylitta Yikes, that does not set a good precedent for you.  Hopefully you can set a new, better precedent.  I can only speak from my experience, but by a year (when I stopped pumping), my milk output was really low when pumping.  Maybe she's pumping that often because she's not getting very much milk in each session and is trying to reach a specific number of oz/day?

@ashanne88 That's a nice theory. At this point we're tempted to look in her bag just to see if she's actually pumping... our employer actually bought a hospital grade pump for her to use at work to save her time. No time has been saved. Each 'pump break' lasts about an hour. We've had others that were pregnant and pumped before. Nothing. But she's a little princess in her own head. So...

    Eta:spelling is hard
  • @MylittaOkay, an hour to pump every time is ridiculous.  That would drive me crazy.  I would guess that she's definitely taking advantage of the situation, which really is a shame.  How long will your company allow her to continue pumping?  I'm not sure how long you're legally protected.

@hayhay87 I stay away from breweries like the plague. If I didn't have a beer in front of my friends, they'd know immediately. I will always offer up to go to an actual bar, so I can get a Sprite with a lime in an highball glass. Works like a charm.

    @Mylitta That sounds ridonkulous.

I work with chemicals that are reproductive hazards, so a couple of my coworkers already know. Plus one of my coworkers is H's best bro bud and the person he decided to tell (apart from family). Our lab is known for our baby-making skills. I was warned when I joined that I would come out with a PHD and two kids. FX that's true, haha! I'll tell my mentor/boss probably around 12 weeks.

@ashanne88 She's legally protected for 2 years. We're counting at this point.

@cjs260 It's very frustrating. She's been spoken to about it, a couple times. Still no changes.

hayhay87 I had to hide it big time last weekend. Had a big outing with a group of friends I always drink around. DH ordered two margaritas. I had "mine" sitting in front of me at dinner and he just drank it. The rest of the night I discreetly ordered soda water with lemon and told my friends I was getting hammered off of vodka sodas. Worked like a charm. Family gatherings will be tough though and I'm planning on just telling some of my closer friends and family just so they don't have to guess. I figure they will be good support for me anyway if something happens! Good luck!

  • HOLY BLOAT BATMAN! I woke up this morning and I look 5 months pregnant. It's embarrassing. I remember the first go around not even remotely showing until 18 weeks (and I'm a teeny person). Welp, looks like it's going to be hard to hide this one. I'm wearing a scarf strategically placed and hoping that the scarf, in combo with the all black outfit, will trump the eye. Damn.

  • @Josie3=5 I'm the same way!! I'm so bloated that I already look 5 months pregnant as well. I was so scared that I'm having twins! lol But from what I've read on multiple forums, the excessive bloat is normal and should subside after the 1st trimester and only pregnant belly will show. I already ordered a belly band because I'm down to 1 pair of jeans that fit comfortably. Hang in there and embrace the belly is mantra!

  • On the work topic, I'm terrified to tell work. I'm not telling them until after genetic testing. It's a male dominated job and we are short staffed as is. We're actually headed into mandatory six day work weeks next month. It's not a very pregnancy or family friendly job. Fortunately, we are under a contract which has maternity benefits. I can take six months off, nine months staffing permitting, and a year staffing permitting. None of it is paid unless I have the leave, which I thankfully have tons of. My plan is to take the first six weeks fully off and then go part time. The scheduling man told me I could probably get the nine months. Part time off under maternity is listed as "staffing permitting." Well, they will lose me the entire six months at least because I do have the leave for it or they can have me part time, so I imagine they would rather have me 50% of the time instead of 0%. If I can get nine months of part time I'll be joyous. I'm just trying to not blow thru all my leave so quickly. DH works in the same agency, so he qualifies for the same benefits. He has more time in the agency, so a lot more leave than I do saved up. If we can do this right we can stagger our schedules and not have to use childcare for a year.

We have another woman who is pregnant now and she hasn't been treated very well. They even asked her for a note from her doctor and she is very obviously pregnant. She was told no to six months of LWOP and is fighting it, so if she gets it... and she probably will then I really have nothing standing in my way.

In other news, I have a cold sore. Ugh.
  • I'm over the period like cramping, I remember this well from my first pregnancy but it's not any less scary... I keep thinking every time I go to the bathroom ill be bleeding, haven't even had one speck of spotting but sure feels like I could.

  • I didn't even feel sick until I woke up Monday morning and it was basically an "Oh crap" moment because I'm on a 5 week study schedule before I take my NCLEX (nursing boards) and it's hard when I'm not eating and I'm feeling sick all the time. Puked literally everything Monday night and this morning so...this stuff is for the birds. My OB said as long as I can get 1 good meal in a day I'm good but I'm not even getting that. It's crackers and smoothies and ice.

  • Hi everyone!!
I'm just about 6 weeks and initially had slight nausea and intense waves of cramps. Now that those things have subsided I'm only tired (like fall asleep every night at 830 tired) and bloated! I feel closer to normal which gives me the desire to take a pregnancy test constantly lol like a crazy person, I know I'll feel better at my first appt. I totally understand the unsolicited advice thing, I confided in a co-worker that I was hopeful due to nausea at the beginning and she was telling me "oh that doesn't happen til much later, don't get your hopes up too high" thank you dream crusher!! I'm glad I proved her wrong, every woman is different. Hope everyone is having a great day!
  • Hope everyone is having a great day!  The exhaustion is crazy. I think I mentally blocked the memory of how constantly worn out I was when pregnant with my  other littles. One symptom that is new for me SNORING. Loud, waking hubby up, snoring. Weird. I've also almost out grown my bras already. What are y'all doing for your aching chests?

  • Boobs. Again. Still. They're killing me. And I came down with my first pregnancy induced UTI so that's fun! But on the upside I had to go into my new doctor's office for the first time so when I go in for my first OB appointment at least I'll know where to go (seriously drove around the parking lot for 20 minutes, my GPS is crazy)

Oh no. Are they able to prescribe the same antibiotics as they would for non-pregnant women for the UTI?
  • I'm just tired but that's all I can complain about.

For the nauseous mama's, sea bands saved my life last pregnancy.
  • @Smiley-1980  I am in the same boat. The other night it woke me up and I was laying on the cold bathroom floor in pain for a half hour fearing the worst yet I haven't has a drop of spotting either. I would just like the pain the calm down now

  • @canavara I'm on antibiotics (pregnancy approved!) but I've never been on them for a UTI before so I can't say for sure if they're the same ones
  • zdmd_14zdmd_14 member
@sarahmsoda @smiley-1980 I'm glad it's not just me with the cramping. I really don't remember this symptom from my first two and it's messing with my head.  The camping isn't even all that horrible but every single ache and I get freaked out.  I even had a dream Monday night that I woke up covered in blood.
So now I've gone from checking toilet paper for CM to checking for even the tiniest spot of blood.

I am a little bit tired and a little bit nauseous and would gladly trade cramps for slightly more nausea and fatigue.

Other than that, my boobs ache like none other & have grown almost a cup size--in 10 days--and I started out with As.   Can't complain much about that one

@Smiley-1980 @sarahmsoda @zdmd_14 You are not alone. My cramps aren't bad. Random period like cramps. I've mostly stopped analyzing when I wipe. I even checked cm internally a couple times. Nothing. It's nice to hear it's normal though
  • Ok so AW symptom. There is no way I am feeling a baby moving inside me this early. BUT I feel something right above my pubic bone in between my hips. It feels like hiccups/ quick movement I used to feel with my 1st son. I know it's not gas, that is a different feeling I get often lol my guess is it's my uterus growing? Contracting? It's happened twice today  :o

In fact, it lasted past the pregnancy and she still has it."

WHAT. That's not really a thing, is it? Someone tell me the world isn't going to smell freaking awful forever.

I'm not really complaining about this so I'm not sure if it goes here.. Is there a weekly symptom thread that I missed? But I'll put it here.. Is anyone cold? For a while now I'm freezing all the time, especially my feet are so cold unless I am under the covers or have a heater on them. Is this unrelated to my pregnancy maybe lol idk where I belong haha

  • I've been leaving my jacket (just a Northface) on at work, because the bloat is making it harder to hide this pregnancy. I'm only 7w2d and I'm not ready to tell everyone at work. The only person I've told is my coworker who does the same job as me. She caught on with the nausea and exhaustion though.

My symptoms seem to constantly be evolving and changing. The awful cramps and nausea seem to have become a really lousy feeling and occasional dizziness.

Also I had to break out the belly band today. I work in an office and dress pants are not forgiving. I'm 100% more comfortable now! I wish I wouldn't have been so stubborn about waiting to use it.
