I can feel her breathing

It's so awesome. .. so this will be my 4th birth and 5th pregnancy but I'm so much more aware. I'm just sitting here and she mashes herself into my side and I can feel her breathing. ...
I can feel so much more with this pregnancy than any of my others , not sure if it's due to age, number of pregnancies, or just the fact that she is a rainbow... but it's fun

  • Oh I am 36 and 6 by the way

  • You are definitely feeling her "practice breathing" :) I always thought I was seeing and feeling something like that, and I went for a BPP ultrasound last week and my son was doing it on ultrasound and we could even see it on my stomach, it was the coolest thing!
  • I've felt the same thing off and on :) it's one of my favorite feelings of his. That and the hiccups :)

it's so cool how they practice breathing while still in the womb. Kind of freaky that they pee in there too, but at least they are healthy and getting ready for life on the outside.

  • I'm pretty sure she's referring to this ^

There is no oxygen in the womb. Whatever she is doing, it's not breathing. Good grief some people are dumb.
    Water has oxygen. Duh.
Don't bother me with your facts!

They take a few small practices from time to time, not full on breathing.  While they're big, they still aren't so big that you are going to be able to tell if what you're feeling is just those practice breaths which only happen occasionally and aren't full "breaths" or just the baby moving/squirming, it just isn't possible.  I'm one who would rather someone told me that I'm being a crazy mccrazy pants for thinking I'm feeling something than to go on in my delusion but maybe that's just me....
Unless you are like a PP who had it confirmed on an ultrasound. But not everyone can feel everything their baby is doing, and that's ok. Maybe this is something for you to ask your doctor and get a professional opinion on before telling someone who had the feeling confirmed by their practitioner that they are wrong. It's a really cool gentle pulsating feeling in contrast to a jolting hiccup. It's pretty cool to experience and my OB is incredibly honest when it comes all my questions about what baby is/isn't doing. And I trust his opinion/experience over a FTM.

Babies don't breathe much in the womb.  They take practice breathes occasionally but they don't "breathe" since all their oxygen comes from the placenta.  You likely are just feeling her squirming, not breathing...

Yeah, I'm a FTM...aka this is number 4! Guess, what, just because you can see it in an U/S it doesn't mean you can actually feel it! Also, an ultrasound tech said thats what it was, someone who isn't trained to tell you what exactly is being seen,  not her OB ... so there's that. Also, PP have posted actual articles about it, maybe take time to read those...
  • When my first (this is my fourth, but you know...whatever), we saw her moving around at 12 weeks. Guess what. I could NOT feel it! why not?!
  • Holy sass, batman. Why be so rude to the OP?

Babies DO practice breathing in the womb. It strengthens their lungs for life on the outside.

My ultrasound specialist made sure to look for it at every appointment. You CAN see it on ultrasound and on the outside, if only slightly, depending on baby's position.

I'd be worried if baby didnt practice.

You had an u/s at every appointment?

  • I had gestational diabetes, so yes, an ultrasound at every appointment.

I just don't see why anyone, on any board, feels the need to mock people for enjoying special moments of their pregnancy. Does your own life really suck that much? That you feel the need to mock a pregnant woman? Really?
