I have a cat names Jones who i love and adore. He didn't change too drastically during the pregnancy. Extra snuggles now and again, Slept closer to me and on my lap more often towards the end but I chalk that up to it being autumn here and my temp being much higher than usual.
Since baby has been home he has been acting like a jealous sibling. He sleeps in the car seat when it is in the house not in use, he sleeps on the baby floor mat/activity gym, and he completely avoids Lucine. He spent the first day staring at her from *very* far away. Then yesterday he spent the entire day outside. He normally sleeps in bed with us at night but hasn't even gone into our bedroom since Lucy has been home. Mostly he seems angry at me. MH feeds him now because he wont eat food I out down and he is very dismissive when I try and pet him but will accept tons of snuggles from DH. I think because I am always the one holding baby so he sees it as the ultimate betrayal. I hope he comes right soon. I miss my fur baby very much and really wanted him to love Lucy as much as we do.
I love this thread more than I should admit, but seriously.. It's all about kitties, how could you not love it?
My Siamese snowshoe Henry has been dubbed the Sydney Security System, and it suits him. He is the belly protector, the belly warmer, and he will sit in the doorway of the nursery all evening waiting for us to go to bed, then he will come cuddle with the belly. He hasn't jumped into the crib (I think that's party because he's fat), but he tried to get in the car seat when it was sitting on the carpet (it rocked a bit and spooked him) as well as the MamaRoo. He is pretty interested in baby's things and the smell of her clothes (Dreft... Apparently my cat loves the smell of Dreft....), so I have put a few items on the bed or the floor for him to smell and get used to.
@Kurrant that is tough :-( I'm sure he will come around soon!! I always get nervous and frustrated when they don't adjust to something right away, but with some more time I'm sure they will be BFFs!! I have a feeling my kitty Charley will be exactly as you've described. He gets jealous now when I snuggle with our other cat and they've lived together and gotten along for 6 years!
@clbness Love that picture of CJ - SO CUTE!! Foxy sounds a lot like my Charley. He's got a lot of behavioral peeing issues that all started when we moved into a new house 5 years ago. We moved again last year and oddly enough he has gotten SLIGHTLY better. But we don't give him much room to show us that he's better LOL... We cover up our couches every time we leave the house, or even when we're leaving the living room for a long period. Several times we've forgotten and he won't pee but we're so nervous he will we're not going to test it out. Our couches are a B**** to clean. He will pee on any bed in any room except our bed in the master, so our guest rooms are always closed. He doesn't like laundry or piles of anything on the ground and will pee on those... unless it's clean laundry on our bed, then it's his favorite place to sleep LOL I've been so nervous with the nursery, but the two things I think he'd pee on - the rocking chair and the rug - he's become obsessed with and normally he won't pee on places he likes to lay. MH makes comments constantly about getting rid of him, which is just H being frustrated but he knows I could never do that. Charley is my first baby!! It's so hard to have a cat with behavioral pee problems I love him and he drives me crazy at the same time!
@PYLWhammy and @Kit&Cat Thank you! His couch potato pics are the best...he's a professional lounger (and eater)!
It is SO hard, especially if your DH has always been a strictly dog person, like mine. I'm sorry Charley is a pisser too...it's such a hard thing to break them of. I hope you have no issues with him marking the nursery or any jealousy with the baby! I know we all just want our fur babies to love our real babies in the end!
