How did it go? Very good. Everything looked great. Was so happy to see baby. He is measuring right on track.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? It's a boy! Tyson Daniel. And i have an anterior placenta which explains why i couldn't feel him very early.
And anything else you want to add. I can't wait to meet my baby boy. He was very wiggly so it was hard to get a good profile pic. But she finally got one. My little wiggle worm.
When was your scan? 4/26 (Yesterday, at time of posting)
How far along were you? 20+1
How did it go? Great! Baby is stubborn and would not roll over for the tech to see the spine. Took a while to show both arms and legs, too, but everything was good from the angles we saw! No word on needing a repeat scan, so we'll see.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? Baby is 21 oz, so 57%ile. The Bug can put its feet all the way over its head, which it did a lot yesterday. Plenty of wiggles and fast motions, just not in the directions we needed.
@Sporty1216 keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers . Stay positive!!
We had a Spina Bifida scare with our last LO and it was awful. The worst 20 weeks of uncertainty and anxiety. I understand your worry and trying to prepare for what's to come. Please feel free to reach out to me (PM) if you need to talk more.
@Sporty1216 I am so glad I came here and read your post today. We have our a/s at 12 today, and I think your approach and how you are handling everything is flawless It's impossible to know how to feel, but you are handling it like a champion and staying positive- really inspirational. Praying for you and your beautiful baby girl, that she be healthy and strong!
Scan was 4-26 at 18-19 weeks. Scan was amazing, although it suddenly hits you while there that there is a living developing human inside me with bones and organs growing and was a little bit of an out of body experience for me. I think we had an OB do the scan and she was pretty informative on all the information she was taking but it did take baby a little while to get in all the positions that were anenable to the task so definitely got to be there for a little while too. Had confirmation that he was a boy (as he has a scrotum and penis) yay! Just to be able to see that he looks kind of comfy in there was a treat and we have some more pics as keepsakes although I need to scan all my sonogram pics for posterity.
I wish everyone else all the best on their pregnancy journey with baby
How far along were you? Technically 19 weeks and 6 days, but measuring 5 days ahead!
How did it go? AMAZING! Baby is 100% healthy, growing, active as all hell, and seems to already have a sense of humor since he was ass up and spread eagle so his junk was the first thing we saw the moment the technician placed the scanner on my stomach!
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? I learned that we have a boy!!! And that he's healthy, has all his parts, everything's functioning well, all is great!
And anything else you want to add. I thought this was funny- DH and I had decided on a name earlier, Jameson, and I had some reservations, so I began pitching alternative names- including Aiden which I love. Right after we found out it's a boy, he says "well, we aren't 100% on the name... I like Aiden..." lol what?!? I mean, okay! Just so funny how finding out makes it more real for them.
How did it go? It was so much fun! Seeing the babies finally confirmed for me as to who was A, who was B, where they were located and what their sexes were. Baby A kept kicking and jabbing at Baby B. I was in awe the whole time!
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? Yes, we learned that Baby A is a girl. She is completely on target with her measurements and weighs 12 oz. Baby B is a boy and is already measuring long and big. He was 14 oz. and in the 80th percentile for a boy.
We are all so excited about these babies! I'm thrilled that my son is getting a brother and my daughter is getting a sister and both babies will have each other. Love my "now big" family!
How did it go? It went really well! The tech got all the shots she needed, and it all went very fast. (Nothing like the a/s with my first. Except that I got there with a too full bladder again.) Everything looked perfect and baby is measuring right on track. We were also able to confirm our elective scan was right and baby is a girl.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? Baby is much more active and cooperative than her sister was! She is also 14 oz. Found out that my placenta is on the left side of my uterus wrapping partly around the front and partly around the back. I honestly didn't even know that was possible. Apparently it increases the likelihood of placenta previa, but thankfully there was no trace of it on my cervix.
Just got back from a/s part 2! Little guy was moving and grooving today, we got all the pictures they needed.
Question though-- They had me schedule another ultrasound for 4 weeks out--is this normal? I didn't realize I would be getting monthly ultrasounds. Is everyone else getting monthly ultrasounds?
@Megan324 Depends on the practice. I think most doctors only do the a/s for a normal, healthy pregnancy, but an extra peek at the baby is nice of they do them more frequently! I'm getting another one at 30 weeks to check the baby's growth. She's measuring great now, they just want to be sure my blood pressure doesn't cause growth issues.
Agreed, most practices do just the dating U/S if needed early on and an anatomy scan if no other questions - but this might not be the case for yours. I'm going back in around 32 weeks for a "placental lake" which basically raises zero concern to my OB but said that it "earned me an extra!" ... sure! why not?
@AnnaS930@camichael84 Unless there is something wrong that they arent telling me, they say that everything is normal! I mean-- I love seeing him so I'm not upset but I really wasn't expecting it
How did it go? It went great! The u/s tech went over everything with us as she was doing it and told us what we were looking at.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? She is indeed a girl! She is measuring in at 12oz and is in the 25%. Fluid levels look great. I was really worried about that due to my last two having oligohydrominois. But because of my past experiences with Oligo and IUGR we will go back in 8 weeks for a growth ultrasound and fluid check.
How did it go? It went faster than I expected, only about 30 minutes total.Everything with baby looks great! The u/s tech went over everything and made positive comments throughout. She got all the pictures she needed and did the heart first since it was a good shot right away apparently. I did find out that I have an anterior placenta and that it's low (but not on the cervix luckily) so I'll get another u/s at 32 weeks to make sure it's moved up more. Explains why I haven't felt movement yet.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? It's a girl! She's measuring right on track and we got to see her yawn awwww
How did it go? It went very well! Baby was head down, so not the best position for head measurements, but she did eventually move for them to get everything they needed at the end.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? She's huge! 93rd percentile, measuring at 20w5d, so about where my first due date estimation (going from missed period) was. I know that doesn't change anything, but I thought it was kind of neat. The nurse reassured me I wouldn't have a "ten pound baby" but I just kind of laughed because I was almost ten pounds when I was born, and I had to be an early C-section because of how big I was and my mom was so small. I kind of figured she'd be on the bigger side because I started feeling her at about 17 weeks, but I didn't expect that big, lol.
How did it go? It went very well! Our tech was amazing and talked us through everything. We got some great shots of the heart, and baby was very cooperative with positioning, etc. At first she was on her back so it was hard to get her spine, but they had me turn on my side to see if the baby would flip and she did! The MD came in at the end and went over everything again and said everything looked very healthy so that made me feel great
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? We found out we're having a girl!! We are both so excited. We also found out that her brain, heart, spine and other organs all look to be healthy, and the tech even showed us all of her little fingers, which was cute. She's a wiggly one and was changing positions constantly, but I think we got all of the shots we needed! She's measuring right on time at 18 weeks but I'm not sure about percentile/ounces like everyone else is talking about.
@camichael84 and @pdxmamatobe Did your doctors put you on pelvic rest at all with your low laying placentas? I found out mine is low and near the cervix and they don't want me having sex or exercising (besides walking) until my next ultrasound at 28 weeks. The placenta isn't touching the cervix or anything but this is just a precaution. What about you ladies?
Married: 3/21/15 First time mom to a human but have been a puppy mamma for over 12 years
@blondie080300I see my midwife on Friday to go over the results so I guess I'll find out then. The ultrasound tech said it usually moves up as the uterus grows and is fine by the time birth comes around so I'm not worried. I also have an anterior placenta so maybe that matters?
When was your scan? Today! How far along were you? 20 weeks and some days. How did it go? Great! Did you learn anything new about you or baby? It's a girl!
We had our anatomy scan today at exactly 20 weeks. We are 99% sure we are having a girl! She was being modest, so we're not 100%, but they did type it on a photo, so I think they felt pretty sure.
However, they also found some troubles. It looks like she may have a hole in her heart and also a cyst in her brain. Additionally, the umbilical cord only has one artery instead of two. Together, these things may point toward a chromosomal issue--perhaps downs. She is also measuring quite small. 15th percentile. We are obviously praying that baby girl is healthier than it appears right now, but we are trusting that God is in control and has chosen her specifically for our family.
I have an echocardiogram scheduled for two weeks from now so we can take a closer look at the heart. So, we'll know more then.
We are struggling to know how to feel. Obviously, we are thrilled to have a baby girl and we are absolutely in love with her. But these are some things we didn't anticipate (who does, right?) and we're just trying to figure out how to feel for now. Lots of waiting and praying. Since telling a few in-person friends, I've heard some stories of things like this and baby being perfectly healthy. So, that's encouraging, but anecdotes are just anecdotes and have no actual bearing on our situation, so keeping that in mind too.
My friends' baby had the one artery instead of two, plus the cyst on her brain and they were also warned she may have DS. She was completely healthy.
I had my anatomy scan a couple of weeks ago and didn't post in this thread because the u/s itself was pretty lackluster. I mean, it was all good news which was the main objective but it was also really, really short and we barely got any photos. After reading through this thread, though, I'm wondering if anyone else had a similar experience?
The scan took barely 15 minutes - anyone else with one that short? It wasn't because baby was in a great position and cooperating - the tech actually showed us that his/her position was pretty inopportune for an u/s and how it was making it difficult for her to get her measurements. But she didn't ask me to move and I wasn't asked to come back to remeasure anything (OB said after my scan everything looked great).
I'm not necessarily concerned about any of this - just curious if I'm the only one?
@camichael84 and @pdxmamatobe Did your doctors put you on pelvic rest at all with your low laying placentas? I found out mine is low and near the cervix and they don't want me having sex or exercising (besides walking) until my next ultrasound at 28 weeks. The placenta isn't touching the cervix or anything but this is just a precaution. What about you ladies?
@blondie080300 I got put on pelvic rest for that, no "penetration" type sex, only light walking, not lifting anything over 30 lbs. It's a pretty standard precaution for a low-lying placenta. In 90% of cases it moves up to where it should be.
@JennM205 Did the doctor review the pictures after the tech took them? If so, I think everything is a-okay, even if it was brief. I doubt they would be allowed to let you leave without rescheduling if they hadn't verified all shots were taken and looked okay. It's a bummer about the photos though! Did they offer to make a DVD of the session at least?
@mom2adoodleI had my OB appointment immediately after the a/s. My OB said everything looked fine so I assume she reviewed the pictures and the tech's measurements, etc. No DVD of the session, I don't think my practice does that. It's not a terribly big deal - just strange when others are posting about hour-long scans and techs trying this and that to get baby in a good position. I feel like our tech barely tried at all. Oh well.
I had my a/s a few hours ago! My best friend came with me, since she's the one throwing the reveal shower on the 14th. It took everything I had to keep my eyes closed when they told me to, I wanted to peek so bad! Baby is healthy, growing perfectly on target, and is SO WIGGLY. I learned I have an anterior placenta, and I get a bonus ultrasound next appointment because baby was moving so much, they couldn't get a clear heart shot. I can't wait to find out if this kickypants is a girl or a boy!!!!

@blondie080300 I don't think my placenta is actually low lying, or if it is they didn't mention it. The tech spent extra time looking at it and getting pics because she said it wrapping around the side made it more likely to cover the cervix, but when I asked her if it was she said it was fine. OB also never mentioned it being low. I kind of wish I'd asked about it now.
How did it go? Everything looked good, but we didn't get a clear profile shot. Did you learn anything new about you or baby? We saw the baby yawn! Crazy!
Scan was today! (May 3) 22 weeks Baby looked good. Fetal echo is scheduled and they want me to see my cardiologist. We are having a girl! And she might have a hole in her heart, but we need a different scan to tell.
How did it go? Awesome! Lasted over 2 hours. Myself and the technician basically chatted while she got her shots. Baby was squirming a lot. I had to empty by bladder a few times too. Everything checked off. It was amazing to see baby's legs, arms etc. Makes it even more real.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? Baby is very agile. I don't want to find out the sex until I deliver. Don't want to go colour crazy. Also most importantly, I want a healthy baby.
And anything else you want to add. It was a great experience. Put me at ease since I had two inconclusive NIPT due to the blood thinners am in.
@yellowrose314 I think I need to call my doctor to discuss this pelvic rest because the nurse practitioner said no orgasms even without vaginal penetration. There are 2 women in my hypnobirthing class that were told they had low lying placentas and were never put on pelvic rest so I am just a little confused why mine is SO strict. I am all about keeping the baby safe but if this is so common and I am not spotting or anything, why the heck do I have to wait so long? Another girl told me they did an ultrasound 4 weeks later and it had shown progress in moving up. I want that. *pouts* Sorry to hear you had to be on pelvic rest too!
@camichael84 I definitely didn't mean to put more questions into your mind! Since low lying placenta is so common, it may not even matter if yours is low or not. If your doc didn't seem concerned right now, I wouldn't be either. I was told mine was low last Monday during the ultrasound and was not worried at all until the nurse practitioner put these restrictions on me as a precautionary on Friday. Very frustrating. So enjoy no pelvic rest!!
Married: 3/21/15 First time mom to a human but have been a puppy mamma for over 12 years
@blondie080300 I wasn't put on an orgasm hiatus, just no penetration. Although, I can see possibly see how they wouldn't want you to have the big O, as perhaps they're worried that the contractions could cause problems? There's also a difference between a low lying placenta and placenta previa, so it would make sense that the other women you know may not have been put on pelvic rest. Your NP obviously has a good reason for wanting you to abstain, but if you're wanting more information definitely call your doctor, maybe he/she can explain the details to you more thoroughly. If it makes you feel better, at my A/S, my placenta had moved up to a point where they said I could stop the PR and resume my marital activities, which I was super happy about. I hope the same happens for you!
Just had my anatomy scan this morning at 19 weeks, 5 days. The tech said everything looked good, but her head is small, measuring about a week behind. Everything else was right on track. Doc said not to worry but of course I am. Anyone have any experience with this?
@MammaJams My first born's head (and abdomen) always measured a week behind while her humerus and femur always measured a week ahead. She is perfectly healthy and it never even came up at appointments; just something DH and would notice. Her head has consistently been in a smaller percentile than her weight or height. She just has a smaller head, similarly to me. Thank God because her dad's head is huge.
How did it go? it went ok. the sonographer noticed baby has a 'soft marker for down's syndrome' which is called an 'EIF' (echogenic intracardiac focus) basically, just a bright, calcified spot in the heart. Doesn't mean that baby has Down's...just that they notice a higher rate of Down's when there is EIF on ultrasound. I'm not terribly worried because that was the ONLY thing even slightly abnormal that was seen. I was offered the blood test again which I, again, declined. I also declined the amnio.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? We learned that we are having a baby BOY!! Also, we learned that he is still a thumbsucker so far.
How did it go? GREAT! I was worried anyway after a prior MC, but even moreso after the recent phone call from my doctor saying I had an increased for DS. Long story short, everything is fine. The tech was great, but didn't say much during the scan. The doctor was amazing! We're still waiting on the MaterniT21 test to come back, but I'm finally able to breathe.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? We were able to stay Team Green! Baby looks perfectly healthy and that's all that matters. We also learned that I have an anterior placenta, which explains the lack of movement. So much to breathe easy about now!
How did it go? Amazing!! Now that we are past the point of worrying so much about loss, we are focusing on growth. DD was born early due to severe IUGR because my placenta went squirrely (to paraphrase the medical terminology...). There are no signs of growth restriction this time so far, and baby boy is measuring ahead! And in true male fashion, was less bashful and put all his baby boy bits front and center for us to see! Tech couldn't get all the shots, so we go back in a few weeks. I am hoping that we are released back to the primary care of my midwife soon, cause this driving 2 hours each way for ultrasounds and the MFM Dr. is getting old.
