Since many of us are having our anatomy scans soon (or just had them) I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread to share our experiences/questions/concerns/raves/rants/what have you. Hooray for mid-pregnancy!
General questions you can answer (totally optional of course)
When was your scan?
How far along were you?
How did it go?
Did you learn anything new about you or baby?
And anything else you want to add.

How did it go?
Great, baby looked healthy, and full of energy. The tech could barely get pics because she was so wiggly.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby?
This baby is silly, she was covering her face with her arm and sticking out her tongue.
And anything else you want to add.

How did it go?
Things went super well, we found out we are having a girl and she sat still for her pictures. Things are all great for the most part but they had some flags that the doctor wasn't really concerned with but still had to tell us about.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby?
Just the baby's gender:)

How did it go?
It went great. Baby didn't want to let us see his heart and kept putting his hands in front of his face. Thought we wouldn't be able to find out the sex because he was moving around a lot and keeping his legs crossed.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby?
Learned that the baby is measuring larger than expected and that we are having a boy.
How far along were you: 20weeks
How did it go: Great! Everything looked normal and healthy (according to the preliminary report). The tech had trouble getting the last 3 shots (2 heart shots, and a face shot) She left us alone for about 5minutes to get the report started and told me to lay on my left side and then switch to my right side in hopes that the baby would move. It worked so we were able to get the final 3 shots that.
Did you learn anything about you or your baby?
Yes I found out I have an anterior placenta which put my mind at ease a little because although I have been feeling some movement for weeks, it's been pretty inconsistent so I was worried. We already knew we were having a boy, but all his measurements looked good, and he is measuring ahead (although not sure what that means...she said it doesn't change my due date)
How far along were you? 20w1d
How did it go? It went well! Everything looked great and was measuring normally. He's an active little guy. He started the u/s out butt down and ended it head down. The tech had to try for awhile to get all the pictures of the heart and we didn't think we were going to be able to get a profile shot. But at the very last minute he gave us a profile shot for about 20 seconds before he turned away again.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? He weighed 13 oz. today and he's so cute!

How far along were you? 20 weeks
How did it go? Went very well. I had my 20 week appt immediately following my ultrasound. The doctor said everything looks great. I do have to go back in 2 weeks to try to get another look at the heart. They were having problems getting the views/pictures that they needed. This happened with my first daughter. I think I went back 3 different times.
Did you learn anything new about you or your baby? Baby measured overall at 20w2d. Weight was 13 oz. I also learned that baby knows how to give a thumbs up. It was the cutest thing and the tech was able to get us a picture.
How far along were you? 17w4d and today I'm 19w2d
How did it go? It went well. Baby was squirming a lot.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? It's a boy. He is measuring 2 weeks ahead. Im not sure if my doctor will move my due date or what. We will see in three weeks
When was your scan? Last Thursday, 4/14

How far along were you? 19 w 6d
How did it go? great!! it was quick, less than 30 minutes and even though the baby was curled up, we got to see everything when he moved slightly. we got some great printed photos, baby looks like an alien but we think he's cute.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? the nurse shared that he is in the frank breech position and I have an anterior placenta. I was able to feel a kick when she pointed it out to me, but haven't felt any since.

How did it go? Great! We got to see so many cute views of baby. We were going to find out the sex but baby was not cooperating... or shy. Little legs were together and wouldn't move even with me changing positions. We finally got a peak between and we saw a little hand! Hahaha... so we either have a typical boy playing with his bits or a little girl protecting her dignity. It was very cute. Then we got a little wave at the end. So cute, I didn't want the appointment to end!
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? Gonna be a soccer player apparently. The tech starting laughing when baby starting kicking and she said she never feels the kicks on the outside before 22 weeks but could feel it. I don't think baby liked the ultrasound cause there was a lot of kicks, but I had just started feeling them this past week so it was fun to feel them throughout the scan.
How did it go? Great - baby was moving around but not so much that the tech had trouble getting images. Took about 45 minutes (with my first the tech battled for an hour and ended up having me come back for more images). All measurements were estimated around 20-22 weeks, so that's perfect, and baby estimated to be about 14.5ounces
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? We learned that baby is a boy! That was my guess so I was pleased to be right and excited to get the experience of raising brothers!
How far along were you? 18 weeks, 1 day, but baby measured a week ahead in everything but his/her weight (right on time).
How did it go? Wonderful. Our tech told us everything she was looking for/seeing and she printed out 20 pictures for us to keep. I think my excitement rubbed off on her a bit.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? She knew "100%" whether it was a boy or girl. We're having a gender reveal tomorrow with our families...hubby is hitting a golf ball that will POOF! either blue or pink.
And anything else you want to add. I was very anxious about this scan, but it was very informative and gave us some great pictures.
How far along were you? 19w 5d
How did it go? Not terrible. They got all the pictures they needed and overall baby is fine and healthy.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? They confirmed we are having a girl!! She seems to be measuring ahead, everything was showing about 21+weeks, so i thought that was good. We also found out she has a calcium deposit in her heart, which could be a sign of downs syndrome but based on all my blood work and other measurements they are still pretty confident we are a low risk. And apparently these calcium deposits are very common and nothing to be concerned about.
Now for the not so great news...The placement of the umbilical cord connecting to the placenta. Apparently my cord is not connected in the "meaty" part of the placenta and could potentially decrease the amount of blood flow to the baby. In addition, the placenta appears to have 2 parts, one major sac and then a secondary lob. The cord is connected between the 2 and has the potential risk of getting squished between the 2 sacs as the pregnancy progresses. In short, the doctor isn't too concerned at the moment, but i have to now go in every 4 weeks to check on the baby's growth. in addition at 34 weeks i'll have to start going in for fetal heart monitoring twice a week.
I had a feeling this pregnancy was too good to be true...and i just had a feeling something was not going to be right. I guess this situation isn't too terrible, and seems very likely that we will still have a healthy baby girl...it just an added risk and thought in the back of my mind now.
Today! We just got home.
How far along were you?
20 weeks, 6 days.
How did it go?
Good! The babies were cooperative and we got all the shots we needed (which I was worried about). The tech was very quiet (she was the same one who did my official anatomy scan at around 15 weeks, so I was expecting it when I saw it was her again). I didn't get to see anything until she was finished measuring everything and turned the screen but DH got to see it all (he says I didn't miss anything since she was going so fast). We were done in about half the time they told us to expect it to take.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby?
We're definitely having two boys (last time, she said one was a boy and the other might be since she couldn't get a good view). They're measuring right around where they should length-wise (one is one day behind and the other is two days ahead) and about 15 ounces each. They've also both turned and are head down instead of breach (finally)!
And anything else you want to add.
I was super nervous, but everything turned out just fine. We got some cute shots of Baby B with his hand in front of his face, like he was hiding from the paparazzi. Didn't get great profile shots, but at least we got some shots of their faces, since the last time we saw them, they were facing my back and all we got was the back of their heads.

How far along were you? I am 20 weeks 4 days but baby is measuring 20 weeks 6 days overall
How did it go? Very well! It was so much fun to see him, confirm he is indeed a boy (lol) and learn that he is developing properly. The best news I could ever hope for. We feel very fortunate
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? I learned that the womb is such a cool place. I learned that he tries to suck his thumb but sometimes misses LOL! He was playing a lot, lifting his legs, wiggling, etc. Too bad I have an anterior placenta and have barely felt the little dude
How far along were you? 20 weeks 3 days
How did it go? It went very well! We learned we are having another boy, and he was pretty chill and cooperative so the whole scan lasted around 30 minutes. Doctor saw nothing out of the ordinary, and all of his measurements were within a day or two of where we expected.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? He appears to be quite proud of his boy parts. His penis was one of the first things we saw, and then even as the tech was trying to get pictures of other parts of his body, he kept slipping his penis into the shot.
April 21st.

How did it go?
It went very well, but we have to go back again because the tech could not get a good view of his heart, but everything else was fine.
I have Neurofibromatosis so it took a little long to check for fibromas especially in the brain, and next time they will have to check the heart. So far no fibromas have been found
Did you learn anything new about you or baby?
So far everything is well and he is healthy.
PCOS, Hypothyroidism.
Miscarriage at 8 weeks

It's a boy!

How did it go? Great, doctor was the one that did the ultrasound and said everything looked good so far.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? We already knew it was a girl from a 16 week scan but got confirmation on the a/s.
** Question **
Doctor said he'd look at the heart later on, when I asked him, he said it would be at an ultrasound at 35 weeks. He didn't say anything else about it but that everything looked good. He took measurements of several parts but not the heart, he just looked at it from different angles. Is that a thing? I'd never heard of an ultrasound at 35 weeks to look at the heart.

How did it go?
It was amazing! I have had two previous losses so I have been extremely paranoid throughout this entire pregnancy. Plus, I had something show up on my blood work (a low papp-a score) that could signify problems with the placenta leading to IUGR). Despite my paranoia and wonky blood work, baby is doing wonderfully! Measuring mostly on track, even a little bit ahead! My placenta looks good and we had a strong heartbeat. It literally could not have gone better. Oh! And I even had a tech who told us how everything was looking while she was doing the scan. I hate when they check on the baby and say nothing to you...
Did you learn anything new about you or baby?
We're having a girl! I literally squealed with happiness when the tech told us. She was moving all over the place (though I can't feel it because of an anterior placenta) and kept snuggling up to my placenta.

How did it go? Pretty good. The tech wasn't super personal - he didn't explain what we were looking at, which was annoying. He had a hard time getting pictures of the heart, had me change positions a few times. I'm not sure what will happen with that, but I assume if there's something wrong I'll get a call.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? Baby is very active. I have an anterior placenta.

How did it go? Great! The tech was nice and friendly. Where I go (I've heard this is standard in Ontatio), you don't see the screen the whole time and your partner is not in the room. Then after they get the pics, they bring your partner in and show you the screen. She got the pics she needed in about 45 minutes because she said she would just set up for a picture and baby would flip. The last 15 minutes she spent trying to get us some "cute face shots" because baby was upside down and not in the best position for pictures. She had me flipping from side to side and was pulsing the ultrasound thing in one spot to try and "annoy" the baby and make it flip, lol! Eventually it flipped for a couple seconds when my hubby was there but we didn't get a picture of that.
I can't stop thinking about this part though. At the beginning, she asked if we wanted to know gender, but said the doctor tells us that when they get the report. About half way through, she brought up gender, even though it had been silent, so I'm assuming she was taking some pics of it. She asked if I had an intuition one way or another. I said I felt like it was a boy but not putting much merit into that. She asked if I was secretly hoping for a boy, and I said "no we kind of want a girl. I'm happy either way but my husband really wants a girl, so I want that for him" and she said "well thats good" which automatically made me think it was a girl! Later I asked if she was able to get a shot that she thinks will show the gender and she said "yes I got a lot of good shots so I'm pretty confident they can determine" which also makes me think girl because you don't need "lots" of shots to prove its a boy (maybe you do, I would just think proving girl would be more difficult). Guess we will wait and see!
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? Not really since the tech can't tell us anything, but will get more detail at the doc on Wednesday. But she did show us lots of stuff at the end of the scan: the kidney, heart chambers, brain structures, eyes, ears, hands, feet, spine, hip bones, stomach, etc so that was really neat!
How far along were you? 18 weeks
How did it go? Not too bad. The sonographer got most of the shots she needed, but baby was moving around a lot as she usually does and so we couldn't get the shots of the heart we needed. It was also super early in that A/S window so the kidney's were still hard to see, so I have to go back in 2 weeks to get some additional measurements taken, which I'm ok with because that means I get to see baby again
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? We (tentatively) learnt that we're having a baby girl! My hospital does the same thing as yours @RG1 and I'm in BC; they also aren't allowed to tell you the gender right there and a report gets sent to your OB/midwife. But this time the tech was nice enough to keep the monitor swivelled toward me a bit when she found out I'm a nurse so I know what I'm looking at (for the most part). We got one really good shot of between the legs and she looked at a couple of different angles and there was no hint of a penis so she was like "I don't see anything there, and I think you know what that means! But if anyone asks I didn't say anything". I had been feeling like it was a boy for AGES, so I was incredibly surprised it was a girl but totally thrilled, especially for DH who really wanted a girl, when he came in afterwards and found out he cried, it was so sweet. I went out with my mom later and immediately started buying baby girl clothes and accessories!!
Edit: cause I forgot to congratulate you on girl!
However, they also found some troubles. It looks like she may have a hole in her heart and also a cyst in her brain. Additionally, the umbilical cord only has one artery instead of two. Together, these things may point toward a chromosomal issue--perhaps downs. She is also measuring quite small. 15th percentile. We are obviously praying that baby girl is healthier than it appears right now, but we are trusting that God is in control and has chosen her specifically for our family.

How far along were you?
20 weeks on the button
How did it go?
Seemingly went well... Haven't had my doc appt to go over the results yet, so just waiting on that. Will update later.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby?
The u/s tech showed me my fallopian tubes and my cervix which I had never seen before on u/s.
When was your scan? Today
How far along were you? 19w6 (although scan measured baby at 20w1d but that's negligible)
How did it go? Good! Met with the perinatologist immediately afterward and she had no concerns. Blood flow to my utuerus, which indicated the possibility of developing pre-E later during my NT scan, was normal so I no longer have to take aspirin.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? Baby weighs 12 oz which is average.
Trying to stay strong as team green although it was really hard not to find out today.
When was your scan? Today (4/26)
How far along were you? 18w4
How did it go? Pretty well. Baby was wiggling around and was in an awkward position (face down) so they had issues getting all of the images they needed. I need to return in two weeks to finish them up.
Did you learn anything new about you or baby? I may (or may not) have a fibroid. The tech kept asking if I've had them before and I think I saw one, but she didn't say. I'm not worried at the moment. Fingers crossed all is good with baby and I!
We found out officially we are having a girl! Thrilled to finally know! It's all the more real now. Yay!
