Re: April Randoms Thread

  • @Sbrown721 Ugh I hate the high deductible/out-of-pocket shuffle. My husband and I have been working for small companies for awhile and the insurance has always been horrid -- $6,000 deductible, $8,000 out-of-pocket. I swear I'm gonna get myself tuned up (robot legs?) after I have this baby so I'll at least get my money's worth of healthcare for the year.

  • @marajay6 This is also our second and last. I always wanted one of each, but as soon as I got pregnant didn't care so much. We found out a couple weeks ago at an elective that we are having another girl. I'm not and haven't been disappointed. However, I feel this twinge of jealousy when I hear about those that will have one of each because it was always what I'd envisioned for myself. But at the same time, I'm scared we'll go to the a/s tomorrow, and they will tell us our girl is actually a boy, and then I'll be disappointed over that. These feelings are fleeting, but I feel ridiculous for them because it's basically like I'm disappointed I can't have it both ways.

  • @Thurstobertay That's exactly my plan if I do end up hitting it! I'm going to go in for EVERY. LITTLE. THING! Haha I am so so hoping that the home birth goes well and I don't end up in the hospital...ya never know with a birth plan, but I'm doing my best to prepare  :) The baby will be on fiance's insurance which is amazing insurance. We've considered just getting married by law now and having the ceremony at a later date because it financially makes so much sense even tho it's a bit unromantic. We will see!
  • @camichael84 Are you me?  Because I feel exactly the same!!  (Except we don't know yet what we're having.)  At the beginning of this pregnancy, I wasn't sure if it would be our last or if we'd try for a third.  DH was ready to commit to being done at two but I just couldn't say I felt the same.  Over the past several months, I've started to lean more and more towards this being our last as well.  Which makes me want a boy and a girl, equally, for different reasons - and I don't have the "girl this time and boy next time" (or vice verse) option anymore!  I want so badly to give DD a sister and to be able to reuse all of her girl stuff out of convenience.  But I also always imagined having one of each and I'd love to have a boy to carry on DH's family name (it's literally up to him or his brother...there are no male cousins, their dad had no male cousins who had sons, etc etc).  Just like you said, I'm disappointed I can't have it both ways!  What in the world?

  • @camichael84 - I was incredibly content with the prospect of this child being either sex until about 2 weeks ago. I realized that I had started calling it a she and realized that I am not quite as content as I thought I was. I hate that I now have a preference but I can't control it.  I will find out tomorrow and once I know, I will be able to accept it and get excited. I am ready to decorate the new nursery!

  • I wanted something sweet but there is nothing in the house! (I ate lo's chocolate Easter bunny that I had hidden away last night during a fit of pregsomnia). So, I'm eating frozen fruit. Turns out it's kind of awesome!
  • @Sbrown721 If your fiance's insurance is better than yours (without the premium being insanely higher) I'd totally get married legally just so you can be covered.  I'm never one to suggest marriage "for the kids" or anything like that (I was a child of one of those marriages and it ended horribly).  But if you're planning on marrying anyway, might as well do it now to reap the financial benefits of the insurance!  You don't even have to tell your friends and family if you fear it'll take away from the big celebration when you have your "fun" ceremony and reception!  I've had several friends go this route with no regrets (both telling and keeping the "legal" marriage secret).  Do what makes you happy but just know that marrying for the insurance (again, as long as you were planning on doing so anyway) may be more common than you think!

  • @JennM205 Absolutely agree with you! We were engaged before I even got pregnant. We are most definitely not marrying "for the kids" (not that there's anything wrong with that for some couples). We already live a very stable, happy life together. We simply wanted baby #1 before we got married! We are planning our ceremony to be in Telluride, CO in 2017 which means baby #1 can be flower girl or ring bearer  :p A lot of our friends have secretly gotten married before the ceremony and none have regretted it one bit. We would not tell our friends and family because we still want the ceremony to be just as special as it normally would be. To me, the ceremony and the legality of it all are SO different from one another. Thanks for the advice!
  • I just got a text from my Mom and need to briefly air my annoyance.  My Mom's family is getting together for my Grandparent's 58th wedding anniversary on Saturday.  Meanwhile, my Uncle has a farm and apparently has 30 baby goats.  My Mom wants to know if we (my sister and I) want to go there after lunch with our daughters to see the goats.

In a normal situation, baby goats!?  Yes, please!  But, in this case, my uncle (my Mom's brother) is a pedophile.  Convicted of molesting his two step-daughters over a several year time period when they were around 4ish through 10ish, maybe.  He spent some time in jail and then was on house arrest for a few years but has since been released on strict parole.  So, no, I do not want my child anywhere near him.  Ever.  In a million years!

I wish I could say that I get where my Mom is coming from - it's her brother and she needed to "forgive" him and embrace him, yada yada but I don't.  I'm sorry but if I found out my brother EVER did anything like that to some little girls, I don't even know what I'd do.  Give him a mouthful of exactly what I think, at the very least.  And then never see him again.  Instead, my Mom's entire family (her, her other siblings, my Grandparents) all act as though nothing ever happened!  It drives DH and I up a wall - it always has but ESPECIALLY now that we have a daughter!

@JennM205 I wanted three kids before this pregnancy as well. I know that plays a part in my feelings. I can't imagine that the next one will be a boy now, and it's official that I'll never have a son. That does make me feel a little sad despite how happy and excited I am for my daughter to have a sister and to watch my girls grow up together.

Also, I don't blame you for staying away from your uncle. I know I couldn't bring myself to take my daughter if I was in your position. I hope your mom can understand your hesitation.

  • @SarahMConnors CONGRATS!!!! The blue ball you saw in the woods totally gives me the chills now!! Love secret messages like that!
  • Thanks for the solidarity, Ladies.  I don't think my Mom will be too upset by my sister and I not going to see the goats (my sister is on the same page I am with the situation).  I just don't get why she keeps bringing it up, time after time.  I've delicately told her how I feel about him and the situation already so why push the issue?  There was even one time she took DD to his house without my knowledge even after knowing my stance on it!  DH about blew a gasket - and this is a man who is NEVER unraveled!  I'm starting to wonder if it's time to be a little less "delicate" with my wishes on this one.  C'mon, Mom!

  • @JennM205 Okay, I would have been pissed after finding out she took DD there without your knowledge or permission. I don't blame your husband's reaction.

  • @Sbrown721 my husband and I did the whole "secret court house wedding". He was in the army and about to leave in deployment, we were already engaged and planning a wedding for when he got back. We decided to make it "legal" before for the financial and legal benefits. If something happened to him I had no rights to get any notice from the military or recieve any survivor benefits. You also get paid more for "separation" if you are married while deployed so we used that extra money to pay for our big wedding we he got back. No one ever knew any different and we don't regret it one bit. If it would help your family out financially and it's just a timing issue, I don't see a problem with it!
  • Congrats on the boy @SarahMConnors! Super excited for you guys!!!

  • @PSUBecky23 @Thscary my doctor told me it was fine to use my topical steroid cream in small doses for my eczema. It randomly flares up on my upper back (super awk place to scratch) during my pregnancy, and the steroid cream really helps. Hope you find something that works, if not the steroid cream.
  • I haven't been around much this week! But good luck @camichael84 and congrats to everyone that has already had their a/s this week! Mine is tomorrow (I'm pretty sure.. I posted about this previously in this thread), and I'm SO excited.

My random today is about a couple of crazy low blood sugar/dehydration episodes I've had this week. When it happened the first time, on Monday night, I had just gotten home from work and all of a sudden went from feeling fine to being super shaky, light headed, and had fuzzy/blurry vision. I had to lay down immediately and didn't feel better for a couple hours! The following night it happened again, but this time when I was still on my way home from work which wasn't pretty. I had to have DH pick me up at the train station, which I never do, because I didn't think I was going to make it home. I did have pretty tough workouts those two days and although I felt like I drank enough water, I probably didn't. We were also eating dinner late both of those nights due to my crazy work schedule, so that probably played a part in it too. Geesh. I made a point to take it super easy yesterday, eat/drink plenty, and just did a very light workout this morning just to get moving. Hoping this doesn't happen again any time soon!
  • @camichael84 Happy a/s day!!  :)

@SLou24 Sorry to hear you've been having those crazy episodes!  How scary...

  • @SLou24 - Scary indeed, very proud of you for asking for a ride home instead of risking it! I nearly passed out on the way home from my 3 hour glucose test last time because I forgot to bring a snack for after and the fasting, followed by glucose spike and drop made me REALLY bottom out. Yikes.  Keep taking it easy, and tons of water/good snacks throughout the day. Keep something on you at all times if you need a quick snack - a granola bar, a chocolate bar, almonds, even some hard candies in case it is low blood sugar. Take care of yourself, mama!

  • Non- baby related but could use good vibes. Currently waiting with DH for him to be seen by a doctor. He just told me last night he's been having some GI problems including pain, black stool, and increased flatulence. He didn't realize how serious this could be, but for me worst case scenario brain is kicking in. Just hoping for some answers and that it's nothing serious. Would appreciate some good vibes if possible, I am worried sick and I can tell he is too.
  • Thanks @AnnaS930! DH was very sweet and concerned both times -- the second night when he came to get me he had to leave dinner cooking on the stove (of course turned it off while he was gone), but didn't complain one bit. I suppose he knows I really need something when I ask because I'm a pretty self sufficient person by nature. I think my biggest problem lies in the late dinners -- When I'm on my way home I'll think "I don't need a snack, I'm about to eat dinner soon"... not taking into account that I bottom out VERY quickly these days and can go from not hungry to ravenous and woozy within minutes. Thanks for the tips and I really need to think about that more often, clearly. Sorry to hear that you had an episode yourself after the glucose test, I can imagine that would leave you feeling pretty awful without a good snack after!!
  • @Thscary - my husband also minimizes GI issues, he'll be like "yeah, there's been blood when I wipe for a week now" and I'm just like Uhhhh, a trace? any in the bowl?! I don't want to know, but GIVE ME DETAILS!

Hopefully it's nothing serious and that you get some answers as to what's going on!!

  • @AnnaS930 thank you. And yea he told me this all as like an "oh by the way" kind of thing. one thing I hate about being a pharmacist is that I know enough about serious symptoms to know they might be really serious, but not enough to really be of any diagnostic value. Ugh.
  • @Thscary -- I hope you guys get some good answers and that it's not a huge issue! Hang in there!
  • @Thscary - Sending good vibes! Hoping all is ok!

  • @Thscary - Sometimes I feel like my training was more in terms of worst case scenarios. I mean we had a few semesters of "self care" about things people could treat at home, but other times it was all how tiny symptoms could lead to huge problems and what to do about that. Like I went to school for 6 years to become an expert on the show "Mystery Diagnosis"... I'm wicked good at guessing rare diseases from a pile of semi-serious symptoms.
Having a medical degree without full "med school" is a blessing and a curse.  Just wait till you have a little guy to "diagnose" ;)

  • Ugh, today and tomorrow are going to be busy at work. 2 of the 3 other pharmacists are out for vacation/sick time and I'm left to pick up the slack.  In a normal day I only handle requests for high cost medications (those that cost >$5000/month) and now I'm responsible for all requests that come in... which I know very little about so I have to research every single request to see if we prefer it, or something else or what labs/chart notes we need before saying yes or no. WAHHHH. Counting down to maternity leave now!

Congrats @SarahMConnors and best of luck @camichael84!!!
  • @Thscary sending good vibes and hoping for the best with you and DH!! Things like that are always scary-- hoping it turns out to be something very minor!
