@Hannah0726 wait... I can kinda understand not recognizing Purple Rain or Little Red Corvette (kinda) but -- 1999??? That song was played like nonstop on NYE in 1999. I'm only a year older than you and it's like burned into my brain. I am by no means a huge Prince fan or anything, but I could probably rock out to a good number of his songs. Thank you 90's!
I don't understand what kind of pleasure someone gets from doing that!
@bananers that is terrible! I can't imagine what kind of person would make up a lie like that. How did everyone find out she was lying?
Someone did some major sleuthing and figured it out, then put together a post with all the evidence and called her out on it. She had apparently pulled the same stunt on other pregnancy websites, and her MO was to ask for donations for burial expenses. Truly sick. She didn't get as far as asking for donations when she was called out, but that was more than likely her next step.
The most disturbing part was that she had been a regular on the BMB since the beginning. That's quite the dedication to pulling off a scam.
I tend to be pretty careful of pictures that I post on Facebook for some of the reasons cited above. If I want to share pictures with my friends I tend to put them on a Google Drive and set it so they can't be downloaded, then share the link on Facebook. That way Facebook can't claim they have rights to any of the images and if I ever want to take the viewing privileges I just move them out of the Google Drive. You can delete photos from Facebook, but you have no idea who has downloaded it by then. We also keep a personal cloud that just family has access to.
It's really easy to be deceptive on the Internet. One of my family members had somebody download her profile picture and create a new Facebook account with her name and then re-friended the people who the imposter wanted access to. And my family really isn't even dramatic or anything. That alone was enough to freak me out!

Eeek! Well that is just down right disgusting and infuriating. Makes my skin crawl...

Oh man I didn't even know what catfishing was. I posted an ultrasound pic in the Facebook group and now I'm going to delete it. Ugh now I'm creeped out!
There is a girl in my hometown that was recently called out for catfishing. She had taken pictures of a baby that was stillborn from the mothers site (the mom had professional photos taken after the babies birth-NILMDTS). The girl then posted how she had lost her baby and got a lot of sympathy from the community until the babies real mom found out. It was terrible and pretty sick. I just don't trust anything as "safe" on the Internet. Really we each had to wait two days for access and you can easily look at other bump posters pictures, that's why even on the infrasound thread it says to take your name off before you post. People can suck.
My confession is that I am 100% sure that some of my regular posters are catfish.
On this board??
Yeah...
What?! Why and how? I mean I've heard of this happening on other boards in the past (which is why I've avoided Facebook so far) but I feel like our board is way too tame to have that level of drama.
Edited to fix grammar.
My thoughts exactly!
This actually happened on my BMB with DS1. We had a catfish whom everyone "knew and loved" who faked her twins' premature birth and death when we were all in the third tri. It was devastating to think her babies had died - and then really disturbing when we found out it was all a lie.
The internets are scary, yo.
My last bmb we caught our main one early. Some on here just seen either delusional or fake. July 14 had a really horrible one, like found out after babies were born and had stolen pics and it was really crazy... I'm suspicious...
I lurk other boards constantly because I am bored and I just really enjoy it. (Heading over to June UO after this...)
I haven't joined the fb group because I still feel it's too early and I've wondered if that's why we don't have as much participation on here sometimes? So I feel like I'm missing out but still want to wait a little longer to join.
I've read a lot about cat fishing stories around the bump and it is pretty crazy.
Finally now I'm paranoid that people may wonder why my profile picture isn't me but once again..Internet safety man!
Is anyone else worried that someone they know may be on the site? I think that's why I don't post pics as much. I know it's a crazy long shot but I don't want people I know reading about certain things. Like when I complain about DH, etc.
I'm also 7 hours ahead of EST so I always miss the good stuff and wake up to everything!

That is just...wild. I can not understand why someone would do that.
@Hannah0726 I have similar thoughts, I am cautious about posting pictures on the Internet, except of my cats. I posts a fur baby shot with me in it and I wondered if I should.
I am also reluctant to post bump photos. As a plus size woman I know any pictures I post of myself can be stolen and made into dieting ads or fat-hate memes (I know people that both of these have happened to). It also doesn't help that picture threads on here crash my phone.
My FFFC: I hate it when people use speaker phone in public (like in a restarantula or on a coffer shop). It just drives me crazy and I will full on side eye you. To me it is up there with preacher book's feelings on talking at the theater.
I imagine cat fish can end up there too. ETA photo
Oh my hell! After being on the TTGP board for a while, I thought this one was pretty tame. I'm going to have to lurk more and figure out who the catfish are. We need some excitement around here. On the other hand, I can't believe people are that sick. Who would do that?!
My FFFC (a day late) is when we had our first Ultra Sound back in February my MIL insisted she could see a penis. I tried telling her that it wasn't possible that early. But, she's a nurse so she knows EVERYTHING! She had everyone convinced baby was a boy. (Which I would have been totally happy with) But we found out Thursday that we are having a girl. For a minute, I wasn't sure if I was more excited about having a girl, or rubbing it on MIL's face.

I'd probably love rubbing it in MILs face too. My mom also thinks ours is a boy...we are keeping it a secret. She will be pleasantly surprised it's a girl.
I also agree, our board is very tame. Even September gets a little rowdy. We must just have a laid back group.

@midwestbaby I don't post pics that include my face since I don't know who is reading the HDBD threads and I don't want some creeper with my full pic or to be able to be identified. I had never thought about catfish using that to their advantage but they probably would. Maybe this next HDBD all the no face people should pose with a newspaper to flush out the catfish - lol.
@Hannah0726 that is also part of the reason I don't want to post a face pic, I already post so much on here I don't want someone to be able to totally identify me between that and the posts. I used to totally stalk the HDBD threads religiously when thinking of getting pregnant and would have found any people I knew who posted.
@ramoseecology ha! That's a good idea. I've only posted one HDBD pic because honestly I only have chest high round mirrors in the bathroom and one small mirror on my vanity. I forget to take it when I'm at work. I guess I need to make more of an effort!
@Hannah0726 we don't have any good mirrors for bump pics in our house either so I just hold my arm out to capture the bump. It hides my face too so win win.
@Lynnlove28@Hannah0726 same. And my work bathroom mirror sucks too. I also don't want to get into too much personal detail, and try to share very little about my daughter, especially pics. I'm not going to be ready for a fb group until maybe October? When the crazies are kinda weeded out and I'm ready to share things like names and faces...
The catfish stuff to me is more the people who just seem really hard to believe and just dishonest... They may be truthful about parts, but I don't trust them. and I roll my eyes at them a lot too...
My confession is that I am 100% sure that some of my regular posters are catfish.

I was thinking that about the people who want us to guess the baby's sex by a profile pic.
I'm a lurker due to impatience. I only look on here on my kindle (usually when nursing my son) and am generally too lazy to type anything on it. Sometimes I think about what my response would be, but don't actually write it down. I've followed the board since the beginning but I think this is my third post.
We had someone on my old BMB who truly was a mom giving birth our month but after we had the babies she went off the deep end and started stealing people's pics, etc. it was so weird.
But this is why I don't post full names, post pictures, etc here. This site is public so anyone can find it and my info. And I'm planning on waiting for our kids to be born before joining any FB group. This is what I did last time, and aside from that one chick and another crazy our FB group was rather tame. And I'm still super close with ladies from that BMB
