October 2016 Moms

Why an October baby is the bomb

I am in a good mood. Off work for 5 days, sitting in the sun, and listening to Justin Bieber radio.

So why is having a baby in October so great!? I have a list thought up but I'll just share a few:

-You can put your little baby in snuggly footie pjs all winter

-We have all fall/winter to work off baby weight for summer

-I am excited that my extended family will get to see my newborn during the holiday season

-The 12week fmla will cover past new years, yeessss

  • Sooo I read that studies show that Fall-born children tend to perform better at school and sports because they are a few months ahead of the other students in their year and that advantage sticks with them (maybe gives them confidence?).

Also, I was born in October =)
This makes sense to me. I am a September baby and my parents had a decision to start me early when I was 4 years old or to wait until the following year and I would be in the older age bracket for my class. Seeing how I may have to face this choice with my Oct. babe, I spoke with my Mom about this who decided to start me early at age 4.  Looking back, I always seemed more immature then my older classmates who I felt I had to prove I could "hang with the big kids" in a way.  I was more concerned with goofing off and being boy crazy then buckling down on studies and extra curricular things.

  • All of these are awesome! My other kids are all late winter and spring so I'm excited to experience a new baby at a completely different time of year.

  • I already have an October baby and you are all 100% right!:)
  • I'm excited to not have to worry about sucking in my stomach all summer long in my swim suit  ;)
Also, adorable sundresses all summer long, snuggling a sweet newborn all winter long, fall
themed birthday parties. Seriously. October is the perfect month. My DD was born in early Januray and TBH, her birthday blows.

  • @mrskratt I am an early January baby too. It's definitely crammed in there with too many other holidays and too cold to have outside parties!!

I'm already thinking about a Cowboy/Cowgirl themed first birthday party. Perfect in October  :) Planning ahead much??...ehhhh oh well!

  • Fi has an October birthday. It works out well because my stepdaughters share their birthday with their mother. My stepsons birthday is a week before mine. And Peanut is due the day before FI birthday.
  • Not being super-duper-duper pregnant in the heat of the summer!

  • @SuperNerd42 Yesss Patagonia has the best coats for babies!!! They were automatically my first choice for baby. My friend's baby had the cutest one this past WInter. It was navy blue with shearling on the inside.

  • @AshleyGemini24 yes very very good reason!!!

I am glad I will be home for the holidays, not having to request the time off will be amazing. Also snuggling with a new born on cold frost mornings.

  • Born in the same month as daddy
  • October is my favorite month, so I love the idea of an October baby. My birthday is in October, I love the Fall, and I love Halloween.

And being in Alabama means that October is usually still a pretty mild month, although it can be unpredictable. It could be 88 degrees one day and a hurricane the next, with snow after that! But usually it's a nice mild month- I won't be giving birth in a blizzard or in a heat wave either hopefully.

So I'm pretty excited about an October baby!

  • I'm happy that I won't be huge in the summer and that the weather will hopefully be a little more tolerable when I am huge :)

Sorry to be the debbie downer of the post.. but one thing I am a little worried about is postpartum depression during the winter months.

  • Baby is due 2 days before my birthday, so I could likely have the best birthday present ever.  But this October mama is begging all of you...only do the jack-o-lantern birthday cake like twice, tops.  :)  But I have to agree, October birthdays are pretty awesome.
  • @cd92007 I'll be a debbie downer too and say I have thought about that as well. I tend to have down days during the winter anyways so I will definitely share that info with my doctor.
  • Cute booties and hats! Fall is my favorite season so I'm really excited about an October baby.

I'm a little worried about PPD with a new baby through the winter months.  I'm more concerned that DH gets MAJOR cabin fever during the winter, which usually ends up causing one annual massive blowup argument (by our standards at least -- we almost never fight).  He is the anti-homebody, and while I could stay home all weekend with no issues whatsoever, he gets super antsy if he doesn't get out.  I can only imagine how much that will be multiplied when we're both home with a new baby in the winter.

All right, done with my rant about my one issue with October babies not being the bomb.  #whompwhomp

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who has thought about PPD. I have a history of depression but did not have PPD with my son. It was actually the opposite.. my maternity leave was some of the happiest, most blissful months of my life. But it was summertime and I could concentrate all my time/energy on him. This time around, he'll be a crazy toddler and I'll have a newborn and the weather will be gray and cold. I'm definitely going to prepare (with medication on hand and maybe placenta encapsulation too).

  • I'm a music teacher, and I think the October timing is perfect. I get to be off during the hottest part of the summer when I'll be miserable. But I'll get to set up my own schedule and recruit my own kids, do the first couple lessons, then go out and come back just in time to do Christmas concerts myself.
Also, all the snuggly reasons previously mentioned :)
  • I have to agree with @JennJenn81713, please don't overdo the halloween theme with birthday parties. My bday is 4 days before halloween and i can't tell you how many costume parties i had and i HATE them now. Yes, it's a good way to get extra use out of a costume you spent time and money on, but just trust me... And discourage halloween-y gift giving. I have sold so many unopened scary movies and books and games. Spooky is not my thing, but everyone seems to think it should be.
  • @cd92007 I have definitely thought of this. It is one of the reasons I needed to make a list of why October was such a good birth month.
  • @LGW2015, mine never looked that good! My grandma used to break up pieces of a Hershey bar to make the face. :)
