Re: Weekly Randoms (4/18)

  • I'm having a Baby Book-Q, it's an idea my sister and I came up with. I'm an avid reader do the whole thing will be book themed but it's co-Ed and will be an outdoor BBQ. I hate opening presents in front of people as well, it takes forever and I would honestly rather just hang out with my friends and family. I may have something put in the invite or like on the gift table so people know. I only get to go home a few times a year and would rather every minute spent with quality time not opening gifts.

  • @ladyshark311 I mentioned to my mom that I thought it would be fun to have a co-ed gathering instead of a "shower" and I don't think she liked the idea. I mean, this is just as much my husband's kid as mine. All she said was "well, that's different." I think she wanted to throw a girly tea party which she did for my bridal shower. I thought she got it out of her system, I guess not.

Agree. I loved my shower last pregnancy, it was awesome to see everyone and they were more than generous with gifts, but...it was f'ing exhausting!

As much as my mom tried to keep me out of the planning, there were still a million questions to answer and decisions to make. We hosted two friends at our house for a few nights who came in from out of town and it kind of felt like a circus. At the time I was sooooo happy, but when it was over I felt some relief!
  • @copperboom86 also late to respond but I really like that name. The BNB HATES my daughters name (Adalyn) but I still love it!
  • @MRSCORKER Well that just stinks! My Mom and my sister are doing mine but they really "get" me so they are just as excited about it as I am, they thought of it before me! I hope you still get what you want though because it's really about you and DH and the LO!
  • @CopperBoom86 I happen to love that name and don't think it's masculine at all, those people can stuff it!

I'm honestly fine with whatever but I don't want DH to be excluded from celebrating our baby because he's a man. I mean, he kinda helped me make the kid, why shouldn't he get to celebrate it? He's just really excited about this baby and I know he would get super excited about being involved in the shower. We'll see, I may be wrong and he may rather go have beers with the boys while the girls have a traditional baby shower.

  • OMG A CLOWN AT YOUR BRIDAL SHOWER? hell I WILL host your shower @turtlemama
  • @MRSCORKER oh man, I've been using weak foaming stuff on my face for a while now and the other day I bought something that was salicylic acid and I came home and told my husband my face burns so good. It feels awesome to not feel greasy and bumpy again.

  • Also on the introvert train. THANK GOODNESS baby showers aren't a thing in Germany. My international life managed to get me out of a typical bridal shower as well.
Right now I'm debating doing an American Thanksgiving type thing in December when my sister visits so people can come meet the baby and even that is already stressing me out!

On a side note, Remy is one of the most popular names in France and is also on my list (although DH shut it down because "ew, French").

  • @turtlemama I had preggo brain there, combined w exhaustion I knew that was crazy for a bridal shower LOL
  • Ugh, I agree, I am a total introvert and hate being the center of attention!  But I had a lot of fun at my bridal shower, it was beautifully planned and organized.  The gift opening was tough because I'm usually not very outwardly enthusiastic, so you have to kind of fake being an extrovert for a little while.

I would love to have a shower that involves DH.  My cousin had a couple of showers, and one was a friends shower with all of her and DH's friends, and then she also had a couple of family showers.  I could see my Aunts throwing my a shower and I know it would likely be just women who are family members, so I think it would be really fun to have a co-ed shower for friends that is really relaxed, like a BBQ or something.  I really hope there are no games involved in any of the showers though...

Does anyone watch Southern Charm? I think I need a support group. I recorded this week's episode and just watched it. THESE PEOPLE ARE RIDICULOUS.

I haven't watched this week's episode yet, but yes, they make me completely eye-rolley.
  • Lol I preferred the ridiculousness of a clown at a bridal shower though!

Just throwing this out there, my husband made me so happy today by texting me asking something about when I'm going to find out the sex...because he didn't say gender  <3 I don't even think he's heard me complain out loud about that topic but if he did, he was unusually attentive!
  • Regarding co-ed showers, I think it's a great idea if the father is into it. My husband would hate it so I like to spare him. Plus, I often excuse him from social events because it's hard enough for me to deal with them on my own without worrying about him constantly. Plus he usually wants to leave earlier than me and I feel rushed.

I don't mind gushing over the presents because they ought to be awesome if I picked them out! Oh, isn't that the best bouncy seat? It's the highest rated one, and isn't the design just too cute and matches our nursery perfectly? It's the surprises I don't do too well with...

  • So I just got a call from my health care practice saying my OB had referred me to a nutritionist -- I'm assuming to discuss how to limit my weight gain this pregnancy.  I'm kind of annoyed -- my OB and I had talked about it when I saw her way back in November (before I got this BFP), but she didn't say anything about it during my last visit and I was actually 2 pounds down from my starting weight then (and am now about 4-7 pounds down in total thanks to the awful cold I had).

I don't know what to do.  On the one hand I feel the need to be a compliant patient, and if my OB thinks I should go I feel like I should go.  On the other hand I had a very negative visceral reaction to the call.  I've lost very significant amounts of weight several times before in my life, and I'm a pretty smart and educated person.  I know how to eat healthy and I know what works for me in terms of weight management.  And so far this pregnancy, weight gain has clearly not been an issue for me.  I've been able to eat what sounds good to me, keep it relatively healthy, and not get too stressed or sensitive or over-obsessive over my food (which can be an issue for me).  I'm really hesitant to potentially disrupt that balance unless there's a problem, and I don't feel like there's a problem yet.  Am I silly to hold off on seeing the nutritionist unless/until weight gain becomes an issue?

  • @simcal18 my OB mentioned to me last visit that seeing a nutritionist would be a good idea (I gained almost 50 lbs last pregnancy and they do NOT want me to do that again!). I was annoyed as the underlying assumption was that I didn't know how to eat well. I do, I just let myself go nuts last time. I'm going to hold off on the nutritionist unless my weight all of the sudden fluctuates. I see no reason why you shouldn't do the same!
  • Im plus sized but in the four weeks between appointments I apparently last 4 kilos (8.8lbs) and I'm not sure how to feel about this, especially because I still feel huge

  • @kmalls Yes I watch Southern Charm and well pretty much every other show on Bravo! (My FI wants to get me into a support group for this lol) They are all out of their damn minds but I LOVE Cameron, she's a riot and the only real one on that show.
  • Maternity dresses are 50% off with the target cartwheel app this week! :) as are my favorite tees and long & lea
  • That's an awesome deal @cbamama641, thanks for sharing!

@simcal18, that would irk me.  Especially since she didn't give you a heads up at your last visit---but maybe go see the nutritionist and see what s/he has to say.  Maybe you'll get the reassurance from her (that you are doing just fine!)  that you're not getting from your OB.

@turtlemomma, I am envisioning what a baby shower with a clown is like.  Please do share, what did the clown do?  Did he make animal balloons????  What else?

@mrscorker, i'm jealous!  I wanna use salicylic acid too!  I'm gonna ask my OB when I see her on the 29th.... Although witch hazel and tea tree oil has been working amazing for me.

  • @kmolleltz I was really, REALLY hoping that was going to be followed up with news that they were reuniting and touring... my heart was singing BACKSTREET'S BACK ALRIGHT!
  • @bamacoop I am also for sure an nsync girl.
  • What? Really? @annabenanna off to Google I go!
  • We're getting ready to finish our basement and sell our house and it has me stressed to the MAX. and I use the term g'etting ready' very loosely.. we've had a couple contractors out to get quotes.  But the knowledge that we're actually gonna do this is stressful
