Damn I haven't even thought about this yet. All I know is that I'm not going to pack baby's diaper bag like I did last time. I didn't need anything that I brought for baby except a couple outfits.....those I'll go in my travel bag.

Glad you mentioned this. Not sure if a bag for the baby was touched on in other replies. I was thinking I don't need to bring diapers, wipes, formula, etc b/c the hospital has all that stuff. Just some outfits and blanket if I want? I'm sure I didn't use much the first time around for the baby until we got home.
I plan to have a hospital bag packed this time, I've never had a bag my mom would just bring items she knew I would need. Thank God for mom but this time I want to be prepared.
@kita175 Depending on if you're having complications or are at risk for complications. If you are than I'd say by 7 mos. (IMO). If not, you could wait until 8mos?? I'm 27 weeks and am starting to set things aside. I'm a big planner though.

doozer1345 I am experiencing a high risk pregnancy. Every two weeks I am seeing my high risk doctor, so I guess its probably time to get my bag together.
Also try and have a small cooler that you can have quickly packed with snacks and drinks for your SO. Other than the staff providing coffee or a styrofoam cup of ice water, your SO will most likely be frequenting the vending machines and fending for themselves. I highly suggest taking a water bottle that has a large opening that can fit ice in for SO; some hospitals say jugs are for patients only, but if you have a container the staff will gladly fill it for you.
@kita175 If you don't mind me asking...What hospital are you planning to give birth at? I ask only bc I'm from Nashville and live in Spring Hill now so I'm really familiar with Nashville hospitals.

@doozer1345 I will be giving birth at Centennial Hospital for Women. This will be my first time giving birth there but I've heard good things about them. What hospital will you be giving birth at?
I swear every time I think I have my list for my hospital bag I check and realize I forgot something else! FTM jitters I guess because I'm usually so organized!
29 weeks here and I haven't really even started thinking about the hospital bag. I guess I should get onto this soon. my OB gave me a list of items to bring but that was months ago. I am giving birth at a Birthing Center and then about 1-4 hours after the birth I have to get the little munchkin and get in the car and go for a 5 minute drive to a Birthcare hospital. I'm not fond of the idea of traveling so soon and not sure if I should pack two bags, one for the birthing center and one for the Birthcare unit . . .Ugh.

I've heard that's a great hospital. I'm going to Maury Regional.

So I may have said this before but I have zero experience with babies ... None... ZIP!
After baby is is born I go to a birth care centre and I can stay there for up to 3 days with no charge. I don't think I will want to but I might depending on what day it of the week it is to get max out of DH being home. Although really being in that room with baby 24 hours and no DH to help with stuff might be overwhelming.
My my question is this, how many onesies or outfits would I really need per 24 hour day for for the baby while at Birthcare?
i wish it was possible to save posts for future reference... I mean ok I can star them but that doesn't allow fast recall to it, does it?
@kurrant I'm a FTM too. We only get to stay in our birth center for 4-6 hours (unless I'm group b strep positive and then it's 12 hours). I've packed four outfits, two pairs of socks, and two hats. Two onesies are daytime outfits (one 0-3, one newborn size) and two are pajama outfits (again, one 0-3, one newborn size). The socks are also a variety of sizes.
@Kurrant it depends a lot on how much skin to skin you do, and how often your baby spits up (which usually isn't too much in the first few days if breastfeeding). We did lots of skin to skin and swaddling initially, and didn't need more than one onesie per day-- once the eating picks up (and therefore the output) you could have one outfit days, or even four outfit days.

I am only bringing a going home outfit. Other than that she will be either doing skin to skin with me or swaddled in a blanket.

All I am taking is a robe, PJS for afterwards, undies, socks, a nursing tank/yoga pants, 2 outfits for her (one in NB, one is 0-3M), a book to read to her and some travel toiletries. Also a swaddle blanket in hopes that the nurses can teach me how the eff to use it! Figure DH can get me anything else I might need...
STM and my bag includes yoga pants, a nursing tank, t-shirt, underware, and nursing bra, nursing pads, 2 outfits for LO, toiletries (deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wipes, chap stick, toothpaste, toothbrush, and hair brush), and a towel. I know from last time I brought other things I didn't need. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to bring underware as the mesh ones they provide are awesome and I wore them as long as possible. I think they sent me home with 4-5 pairs plus a ton of pads. I want my own towel again because theirs are tiny and very scratchy. I stayed in a hospital gown the whole time because of them needing to check my incision and such. And I advise brining 2 outfits for LO because you could have a blowout when you're getting ready to leave.
Hospital gown, pillow case, nursing tanks, loose fitting pants, a robe, a few pairs of undies, overnight pads, a bag with toiletries, socks, slippers, flip flops for the shower, lip balm, hair ties, and nursing pads just in case.
Baby bag is ready too!
Socks, hats, 2 outfits for NB and 2 for 0-3 months, some onesies (NB & 0-3M) , and a blanket. There is a little stuffed kitten that plays a You are my Sunshine melody that I have on the registry. If I get it tonight- I will bring that with me too.
Husband will have a simple bag - he will share the toiletries with me and will have some clothing in addition to flip flops for the shower.
I'm assuming towels are provided at the hospital - keyword: assuming.
I see posters asking about pacifiers. After some of these classes I've taken, I don't think I will be bringing one. Supposedly the feeding cues shouldn't be suppressed by a false nipple so I won't risk the nipple confusion in the very first days of life. We will have to make do with whatever happens at that time.
@Dasha420 I would think most hospitals provide towels, but a couple people have told me they wished they would have brought one from home because the hospital-provided towel was small/scratchy/crappy.
Babys bag is packed with clothes (daytime and night time clothes in two sizes, sweatshirts socks, two hats, diapers and associated accoutrements) but I've only just started looking at my bag. The birth center gave me a list, and it's broken into three categories- clothes, not clothes, and food. I'll probably throw some stuff in for DH into my bag. I'm an overpacker so I'm sure I'll pack way more than I need.
Man, everyone is way more prepared than me! I'm 35 weeks and I guess I've been subconsciously banking on this babe being late like my first because the closest I've come to "packing my bag" is thinking, man I have no clue where I put my nursing bras and my robe from last time, maybe I should go to Target and re-up.
About the pacifiers- many hospitals are no longer giving them out because they are not allowed to if they want to earn the breastfeeding- friendly label. FWIW, the lactation consultant we worked with when my first couldn't nurse (he had a sublingual cyst that initially kept him from being able to form a seal around the nipple) had been working in the field for 30 years and said she essentially no longer believes in nipple confusion. We gave our son a pacifier on day 1 when he was getting his pencil sharpened, and then he was exclusively bottle fed pumped milk for the first 2 weeks while we got the cyst issues worked out. He had no trouble making the switch to breast, and we continued to give him 1-2 bottles a week to keep him familiar with it, and that made my return to work/ being able to go out occasionally way easier.
....I have a tshirt in mine with some depends. I'm not even close to being done packing. Anyone want to come pack for me?! I'll give you cookies! Here I thought I'd have mine packed by 28 weeks as I'm a huge planner but I'm clearly procrastinating.
My bag is pretty much packed. I need to include a swaddle blanket, but after that it's going in the car. I have Depends, disposable perineal cold pads, PJs, toiletries, lip balm and outfits for baby and DH, Pads for nipple leakage.
My nurse also doesn't believe in nipple confusion really, but I'm going to hold off on bottles and pacifiers for a month. She said it's more about how it's easier to suck from a bottle than the breast so you want them to get used to working for the milk first.
Good call on the Depends ... I just tossed a few in my bag as well . I think I'll try the mesh panties with giant pad combo and if I don't like it I'll have the Depends as a back up .
I also packed one. Are you ladies packing nursing pads for leakage between feedings while in the hospital?
The hospital provided breast pads last time I delivered. You may not leak if you stay for 2 days, but I stayed for 4 days after my c-section, and my milk came in and I needed those pads!

Yeah, I'm definitely packing way too many baby clothes and baby blankets...I know that hospital has swaddle blankets and longsleeve tshirts. But the clothes are so cute!!
