2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? The 20 week scan at the end of May.
3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: We announced to our parents yesterday and it was very sweet. We did the whole, "Take a picture with your granddaughter (my DD) and say 'Cheese'. Now say, "The baby is due in October!" We caught their reactions in a photo and it was awesome. They were surprised when I told them I was already 13+ weeks but I had to hold out longer this time.
4. GTKY: Do you collect anything? Bobbypins? lol Seriously, old books. I can't get enough of that smell.
2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? My next ultrasound on 5/5. It will be 2 week before the time in our last pregnancy when we found out we lost our son, so any reassurance will be good.
3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: None really
4. GTKY: Do you collect anything? We try to pick up a piece of art from local artists when we travel. We also have 2 disney collections...pins (I specifically collect Peter Pan pins and DH collects Oogie Boogie pins) and a specific collection of ornaments that are in the shape of mickey ears and have different designs on them. We just buy 1 of the ornaments each Christmas to commemorate the year, like last year we bought a wedding themed one since we got married.
I'm slightly late to the game... @simcal18 I hope you are feeling a bit better, if not completely!
1. How far along are you? 15w 2d
2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Next appt on monday and then my appt with the perinatologist on the following tuesday.
3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I am always hungry. I can't seem to satisfy my need for food. Oh, and i want to feel the baby move already. That's all i got as far as pregnancy. I haven't had much time to think about it lately because tomorrow my son (3yo) is going into surgery to have his tonsils and adenoids removed and it's sending my anxiety through the roof. Positive thoughts and vibes are much appreciated if you have a few extra to send our way. (I logically know this is a simple common procedure, but the mommy in me doesn't necessarily see it that way... :::sigh:::)
4. GTKY: Do you collect anything? I collect shot glasses from places i travel to. I'm going to start an ornament collection for my son from the places we travel too so when he is bigger and all growns up and moves out, he will have ornaments for his christmas tree.
Thanks so much @Tara0604 and everyone else who sent good wishes my way!!! It really meant a lot to see all of that. I'm feeling a little bit better today -- not a lot, but a little -- and I'm hoping I will be back to 100% by the weekend or so. I just have to keep reminding myself that it won't last forever, even though it may feel like it. I'm just really hoping that none of it is affecting the baby -- logically baby should be totally fine and it's silly to worry, but I still can't help but wonder how baby is growing and thriving in there when I feel so awful. Fingers crossed hard that NT scan on Thursday shows a healthy active baby and that I feel well enough to enjoy it.

@simcal18 For what it's worth, I talked with my OB about this kind of thing before getting pregnant again to make sure that she wouldn't just give me the more soothing answer once I was preggo--and she said the only ways that stress/sickness/etc. really harm the baby is when it impacts our self-care in other ways (like not eating, not sleeping, not moving at all)--and even that, she was quick to point out, only becomes problematic if it's extreme, and otherwise can just look a heck of a lot like any other pregnancy symptoms.
On a more personal / maybe hippy-ish perspective, there is no doubt that you love your baby so much--if anything, THAT is the emotion that they're going to be soaking up in there.
And if they do feel your crappy feelings on some cosmic level, you'll be teaching them in the longterm that you can--and will--go through tough periods in life, but they end, and you can manage through them, and you'll be ok. Sending love your way!!!
Just a quick update for now (will post more later in the appointment thread) -- baby looked great! Measuring right on track, nuchal fold looked nice and thin, and we got an adorable little butt wiggle. Had to wait over 30 minutes with a crazy full bladder and baby was not cooperative with the NT measurement but we eventually got it and all is well! Thanks again for all the support and good wishes.

I had my doctor appt today. I got to hear the heartbeat, but other than that it was a bummer. I was interviewed by a med student who was very nervous and awkward. Lol. Then my OB came in and told me I could get my anatomy scan in about 3 and a half weeks. I got so excited, I called the hospital right away. But it turns out they don't do them at 18 weeks anymore, they only do them at 20. So I have to wait till May 23rd to find out the sex and see Bean again.
Question: Has anyone been told to not increase the amount of food they eat in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters? Everything I've read in books and on the boards say to increase by about 300 calories by the second trimester. But my doc said no, don't do that. I'm overweight and I know I'll probably still gained the needed weight....this just went against everything I'd ever heard and I thought it was weird.
@krzyriver My doc said the "expect to be 25-35lbs heavier" trend of the past is just that, a trend. Her goal for me is just that I eat enough, but no need to purposefully consume more unless I find myself not gaining closer to the end. But as long as the peanut is a good size... no worries.

What did they tell you your recommended weight gain for the pregnancy was? I haven't been given specific caloric instructions, but have been told to keep my weight gain very minimal (I'm well into the obese BMI range, so my recommended gain is between 10-20 pounds and they'd like me to stay on the lower end of that if possible). So I'm just assuming that the extra 300 calories doesn't apply to me. I was queasy this first trimester and now have been sick with a bad cold for 2+ weeks so food intake hasn't been an issue for me (I've just been trying to eat what I can and I'm actually down 7 pounds so far).
Once I'm feeling better and am into 2nd tri, I will likely start tracking my food with myplate and make a more conscious effort to eat healthy. I'm not going to restrict my caloric intake nor am I going to deprive myself if I really want an indulgence, but I am going to focus on lean proteins, veggies, and whole foods in general, and I do best with that when I keep track of what I'm eating. No calorie minimums or maximums unless my weight starts to trend off too much in one direction or the other -- just a focus on healthy foods and listening to my body's hunger signals. I'm certainly not going to aim to take in extra calories. Babies are parasites -- especially if you're already overweight, they can get the vast majority of what they need from the stores your body already has, and the only real "weight" you need to gain is the actual weight of the baby, placenta/amniotic fluid, and some of the extra fluid and breast volume that your body takes on.

@simcal18 She didn't give me one. I think she might be concerned that giving me a weight gain goal will cause issues cause I used to be bulimic. She just told me that I don't need to eat more, just continue eating healthy and I'll gain weight naturally as the pregnancy progresses. So far I've gained nothing and she said most women don't have a problem gaining the needed weight at the end, so keep doing what I'm doing.

Gotcha. I'd just focus on generally eating healthy and not worry about it too much then. From what I've heard, they're pretty quick to tell you if you're getting too far off track one way or another, so I'd just eat well when you can and not worry about the numbers on the scale unless you hear differently.

No one has said anything to me at all. I didn't gain during the first trimester, which I am glad of, because I certainly didn't want to start out with warnings. I'm certainly not going to stuff my face for fun because "eating for two," but I'm damn sure going to eat when I'm hungry, even if I just ate an hour ago. I'm hoping it all works itself out but honestly I don't think individuals have as much control over these things as is popularly believed. I think the body will more or less do what it wants without taking your intentions into much account.
@RainMira9e Yeah, I don't plan to "eat for two" either. But I still have to use MyFitnessPal to keep track because when I eat healthy, I undereat. I don't want to do that now. So that's why I asked about my doctor about this 300 calorie rule I kept hearing about.
My doctor never mentioned weight or diet once. I would imagine she wouldn't say anything unless it was legitimately needed. I added 500 calories for the first trimester.. My body just needed it. At 14 weeks I've only gained 1 pound (bmi 21) so I'm not too worried about it. Just eat when hungry and use portion control.
