  • @laurenmdrn16 As a Christian, I hate the phrase "God won't give you any more than you can handle." I have a friend that has a little girl that was born with a heart defect and blindness. She says that, yes, there are times when she is angry and frustrated with her situation, but it has also caused her to lean on God more for strength, not herself.

This woman was a great mom to her "normal" older daughter before her special needs daughter came along, and she didn't suddenly become a "saint" once she was born.

Can I also throw "for all intensive purposes" into the grammar ring.  Because no.  I mean...when will the less intense purposes be recognized???

Also...and please God let this be something esoteric to my world and not a widespread (mis)saying...but it's not a "moo point."  Cows have literally nothing to do with it.

Oh!  And you don't nip anything in the butt.  Well, ok, I don't know, maybe you do.  But if you do I don't think I want to hear about it.  Unless it has to do with Butt Baby because I still want to hear about that.

Wait...didn't we have a thread on this topic months ago?

    QBF!

    That's a mute point ;)
    It's like a cows opinion...
  • YES to all the grammar comments! I think some of you ladies may enjoy this post.

  • @ncm0328 I have one of those cousins who leaves cryptic messages on her FB wall, and then when people respond with "what's wrong?" she either doesn't answer or she says "PM me".  Seriously?

@TheThornBird I never thought of it that way.....now I'm going to sanitize the equipment even more at the gym.  Ewwwwwwww.

I hid my SIL because of her excessive vague posting. And when she wasn't vague posting, she was complaining.

  • I can't stand lengthy personal calls in cubicle land. Something quick is fine but please don't spend ten minutes discussing with your husband if he needs to buy a new sweater, if it's the right time to plant kale, or about your personal weekend agenda.

I am in complete agreement that Ross was the worst character on the show, but that hasn't stopped me from watching every episode 50 times each!

My UO this week is that older people are very rude but can get away with it because they are older. I've worked in customer service since I was 17 (first in a restaurant, then I worked for a news website, hotel, and then a bank). I have never been screamed at by anyone under the age of 25, nor have I felt like less than a person when trying to help young customers. Older folks, however, seem to believe they are entitled to much more than any other customer and feel the right to yell at or mistreat anyone in the service industry as soon as something doesn't go their way. Trust me, I can understand your anger when a company or employee is too incompetent to complete the standard service you have paid for. But that doesn't give you the right to mistreat a human being who is genuinely trying to help you. It frustrates me that so many young people are understanding and calm in these situations but older people think there is something seriously wrong with that generation (sagging pants aside).
Whaaaa whatttt????? Ross was the best!! I mean, who else gets stuck in his leather pants (best episode ever).

Hahaha! Okay, the leather pants were good, but another example of Ross being a major mess. He's such a debbie-downer throughout the series

  • I'll be flamed for this but.... I think Friends is overrated. My college roommate was obsessed but it just never did anything for me.There are defenitly good episodes but as a series IMO it's kind of generic. Seinfeld > Friends
YES! Seinfeld all the way!   DH likes Friends and actually owned the box set before I met him . . . I don't know why but I never really found it that great and that's not for a lack of trying. I have had several people try to get me to like it and I have seen at least half of the episodes but it just doesn't do anything for me.
  • @charla1224 and @kurrant, I think there is a divide in this country. Not on race or political stance. But on Friends vs Seinfeld. I have been saying this for years. Personally I DESPISE Seinfeld but would watch 24 hours of Friends marathon if I could. Definitely have noticed that people tend to like one over the other.

  • I'm completely with the grammar folks. All of the shorthand like "ur" and "2" instead of too, make me crazy. However, slight confession, it's probably the Texan in me but I often say things like "I used to could" ... I never even noticed it until my older brother pointed it out one time and said it was nonsensical! I guess "I used to be able to" would be more grammatically correct but it is so long to say! So I often don't. I also say "y'all" and "I's" as in short for I was ... that one even drives me crazy. It is really more like "I was" in one syllable... but I promise I'm not a hick!

UO - DH and I have a huge family (parents are divorced and all but one are remarried so we have 7 parents, not to mention siblings and half siblings and their spouses and children, etc). We are very close with all of them and love them dearly. However, I wish I could have the baby without telling anyone. With my first, hours after CS (which, I think people forget, is major surgery), I had about 15 people in the hospital room at once. I couldn't see DD's first bath, nobody could hear me even if I yelled. My anxiety has NEVER been so bad. This time, I'm going to put in my birth plan that I want no more than two visitors (not including myself, DH, DD, and LO) in the room at one time. And visitors are not to stay for more than an hour. I want the nurses to actively kick people out. DH is on board and will help schedule when people come visit via text but seriously... it was miserable. FX for a quick VBAC before my RCS so nobody is in town! ;)

Having also worked in customer service for a long time, I totally see this and hate it. I worked at an upscale custom cake bakery for three and a half years. The people that came in there were INSANE. I mean, I totally get that when you are spending way too much money on something frivolous and it doesn't come out how you imagined, it can be very frustrating. But the entitled douchehelmets that came in to this place and complained about MINOR, EASILY FIXABLE things destroyed my soul. And you're right, it was mostly middle aged people. Not that I didn't get my share of obnoxious younger people, too. And now at my current job, most of our customers are middle age and elderly, and there are some real awful ones. The worst part is that all these years of working customer service has made me learn the ways to complain to get what I want. I mean, I consider myself a very courteous customer because of the hell I've been through, but when a business truly does fail me or piss me off, instead of just letting it go and not dealing with them anymore, I find myself more and more complaining or trying to see "what can be done for me" or whatever. Don't get me wrong, I'm still way more respectful about it than most of the jerks I've dealt with, but I hate that I've become that person!
  • @TheThornBird you should totally make your husband watch that video! Crowd-immunity was only ever meant to keep young infants safe between vaccines, not so adults could just opt-out of vaccines permanently.

And I'm with @yogahh about the great divide in our nation over Friends vs Seinfeld. Despite our disagreement on Ross, I could never replace Friends.
  • Add me to the "Friends is overrated" camp. It would be better if Ross wasn't so awful. And Joey. And Rachel. And Monica.
Then again, I don't Seinfeld either. Only Full House for me, forever

My UO is also that I am a grammar snob. For instance:

    It's "What," not "wat."

It's "Because," not "bcuz or cuz."

    It's "You would," not "ud."

I know a girl who says "cos" and "bcos". Drives me nuts. Also, she says "tho" and thinks it's correct grammar...
