Re: Put your randoms here - week of April 4th

  • @jillianpardo Oh no! That's so awful! I hope it's a quick bug and she feels better soon! I'm such a squeamish person that I thought I would not be able to handle my own kid when she got sick, but it's funny how you just mom up and do it.

Why are people so obsessed over other peoples' kids' genitals?! I feel ya!

  • Thanks @rozANDbenSINCE2001 I'm the kind of person who will throw up if someone else is puking near me. I definitely had to mom up. Lol. She hadn't eaten that much so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I did get panicky and started yelling at my 4 year old. She kept staring at her sis puking/looking at the aftermath  and was starting to gag. I guess she got that from me :( "STOP looking at her or you'll puke too!!!!" Haha,  jeeze.

  • Speaking of randoms: this very site and it's terrible ad placement choices.

    - Hey, I know! Let's put giant ads right in the middle of the discussion board topic list!
-- Can we put them in the middle of threads too?
    - You bet!
    -- Great UX! Elegant design!

Maybe it's just my browser, sure, but still. And no, I don't use adblocker or something like that because normally it's not a big deal and I don't care all that much if I see ads anyway. This may change my mind.

  • @rebeccuh YES! I'm always on the app for the most part, but today I went on the board on my computer for the first time in about a week and got so fed up with the ads and confusing layout that I went back on my phone. Gah!

  • Told my supervisor about my pregnancy today. Now I have to get five different people to sub half the semester for me in the Fall. BOOO. The department is really supportive of people having kids, but my supervisor said a few things that bothered me. She mentioned god more than once, including saying it was god's plan for me to be having a baby at this time. She also said that she liked seeing so many of the young women in the department having babies because "it shows they value life." I don't know if that's supposed to be a reference to the "pro-life" stance (I am pro choice - my choice just happened to be to have a kid) but I wonder if she is saying that people who chose not to have kids are somehow not appreciative of life? Or what about those who don't have children because they can't?

Not really important - just wanted to vent because I found it weird.

  • @Kaessi I am sorry about your MIL. I hope you are able to put her out of your mind and have a good time. The cupcakes sound so fun!
  • @RainMira9e That's so odd... Do you teach at a private school? Back when I was in college, I worked at American Eagle and my assistant manager once asked me 3 questions: 1) did I ever have impure thoughts, 2) did I ever lie, and 3) did I ever lust after someone who was taken. My answer was yes and she told me that by those answers, if I died that day, I would be damned to hell unless I asked for forgiveness. She was dead serious. I guess she was a hardcore partier in her teens but found God again in her twenties. It majorly skeeved me out, but I never said anything to anyone about it.

  • @rozANDbenSINCE2001 WHAT! Your supervisor?! That is insanely inappropriate! @RainMira9e ugh that is so inappropriate as well :(

  • @Kaessi just reiterating what everyone else said! Do what YOU and DH want and forget about everyone else. Easier said than done I know. But try to enjoy your moment and celebrate the way you want to! Deal with MIL later. I'm sorry she's being so ridiculous, but try not to let it stand in the way of your joy. And I think your whole plan is adorable and sounds like so much fun!

  • @LGW2015 I know! I don't think I realized how inappropriate it was until later because it was just so startling. I definitely should've reported it to my store manager or district manager!

  • rebeccuh  YES. I cant handle all the random add placements! Plus my internet is less than fast so I thought at first it was like randomly not loading certain posts or something... gah

Unrelated - I finally had coffee today after not drinking it for 5 days (and consequently not really pooping for 5 days) and OH MY THE RELIEF to finally have a normal BM!

  • @kaessi I'm a day late but like the other girls said, don't let anyone kill your vibe! This moment is about you and DH and whoever you choose to share it with. I also think the cupcakes are an adorable idea. Let us know how it went!!

  • @jillianpardo my DD has been up all night with the stomach bug. I am hoping really hard that me and DH don't get it next. She is so pathetic I cried because my gag reflex is so bad I could be in the bathroom when she was getting sick. I feel like a bad mom.

  • @rozANDbenSINCE2001 Nope, it is a *public college*. Not saying anything because I was already in the awkward position of "oh yeah I'm gonna be gone half of next semester." I don't want them to like me any less, even sub-consciously, because you know if I said "oh, I'm an atheist" they would immediately find me less trustworthy. But I feel less safe and I resent that.

  • @ejmo68 boo on sick kids. DD was dry heaving again a few times this am but seems to be back on the mend now. Hope yours is better soon too. I normally have DH on puke duty because I can't handle it. It wouldn't do any good to have multiple people throwing up. Don't feel bad :)

  • Congratulations. Did you guys have a nice night? How did you end up handling MIL?

    O16 April Siggy
  • @RainMira9e Wow. She should definitely know better. I'm sorry you were made to feel uncomfortable.

@jillianpardo I know! But I was 19 and totally didn't know what the right way to react. But yeah, she was definitely the overzealous converter.

    @kaessi Yay! Congratulations!

  • Thanks! Told her she'll find out on Sunday with my dad & sister, as originally planned. She's currently pouting & ignoring me, but whatever. I'm waiting for the dramatic confrontation though, because that's how she handles things. She's very mature!
  • @Kaessi yayyyyy!!! Congrats!! Hope you had a great night!

  • So I just went to Carter's and made my first official baby purchase. They are having a HUGE sale on clearance which happens to be exactly the right clothing seasonally for our October babies! I picked up about ten outfits for 50 bucks!!
  • @MRSCORKER That's so freaking weird as well as rude!
  • @MRSCORKER ew, did you even respond? I would have left that alone for sure. I'm guessing she means well, but NO. She doesn't get to say stuff like that!
  • @ladyshark311 I'm on my own with DS this morning (DH is at baseball practice. Because a 5 month regular season just isn't long enough  :|) and I'm thinking we'll go to Carters. I feel like there's ALWAYS a good sale going on, but knowing you got some great deals motivates me even more!
  • I'm so behind! Haven't been on in days.

@mrscorker .... WTF is wrong with that girl?'

@ladyshark311 ... Thanks for the info! I might head there today!

Has anyone started registering yet? I'm 12w1d and this is my first so I don't know when a good time is. And how many places should you register at? I am debating between 3 with all 3 having things I love but 2 being very similar.
  • @lirby711@gmail.com I don't plan on registering until after we find out the sex of the baby so around 20 weeks. Most people don't have a shower til 3rd trimester anyways. I only plan on registering at 1 place but when and how many places you register at is all up to you!!
  • Guys, I'm actually embarrassed by how pregnant I look at 12 weeks. The baby is the size of a plum but I legit look 20 weeks. I thought solving the constipation problem would help but it didn't. Oh well, I just hope no one asks how far along I am because I'll for sure get the "is it twins?!" Comment.

For our first, we registered at two places - one online (Amazon) and one in person (Target).  We probably would have only registered at Amazon (they have just about anything you'd need), but I know some people in my family would prefer to shop in person.  We started registering pretty early just because we had been researching for quite awhile, but we didn't really tell anyone about the registries until the shower invitations went out in the second trimester.  Our shower was a little earlier than most, though, because we don't live near our families so I wanted to be able to travel before it got uncomfortable.
  • @MRSCORKER Don't worry I look the same and I thought once constipation was going away that the blump would go away but nope! I've been ignorantly asked if I'm having twins twice already, with someone insisting that I am as well which really ticked me off!
  • @MRSCORKER ... I saw your HDBD, you look great! :)

@lirby711@gmail.com - I'd wait until you know the sex. We're planning to register at 2 places: one that is a baby store (babies r us) and then Target so people who are overwhelmed by the baby store or don't have one by them can just hit up Target. IMHO, 3 registered sounds like a lot and makes me think you're going to end up with a bunch of duplicates (which means you're dealing with returns) or it's going to be difficult for folks to figure out where they're going to purchase from. I'd say 2 max is my personal preference.
  • Trying to do homework but the online portal keeps freezing. It's really slowing me down, and I just don't want to, but of course... it's due today. And since morning sickness caused me to miss a couple assignments, I absolutely HAVE to do well or I don't pass. And I really don't want to retake this terribly boring class.
  • @br0co1ii did you try contacting tech support for the portal/school, or at least informing your professor what is going on so that if it's still not working you told them before it was too late? I don't know if it's something you can only complete in the portal but if not (if it's like something you could just type on Word) maybe try emailing it?
  • We'll also register at Target and Amazon, same as we did for our wedding. Most people have a local Target and some family members don't like shopping online as much. Amazon has a broader selection, plus the ability to add things from anywhere online (Target is piloting such a program, but I don't trust it, plus it confuses people who try to shop in the store). I have a secret wishlist on Amazon with tons of stuff just saved for reference. I've just started (13 weeks) adding a few things to the registries now that people are getting told. It's a lot less so people can start shopping and more so I can get it done a little at a time instead of being overwhelmed. I don't even know who's throwing my shower, much less when! Also, while we do know the gender, we're going gender neutral and not revealing it to anyone. Not only do I generally prefer the way gender-neutral stuff looks, but I want to be able to reuse stuff if I have another baby later.
