@kosmo86 sorry I'm a little late to the party, HAPPY 30th!! I've really enjoyed my 30s thus far (33 in May). Hope you love them as well :)!

@blondie08(it's not finding the rest of your username :() I would be equally, if not more pissed off. DH would do stupid shit when I was preg last time around and he has since calmed down. It doesn't help that zero of his friends have yet to experience fatherhood, so he was kinda new to the game. Nowadays, if he's hungover, there is a screaming toddler in the house to make him regret his decisions ;)

I also had no idea there were baby wearing classes. I wish I had known that with DS! There were a few times when I was wearing him completely wrong (looking back). I will have to do some more research this time around.

  • Also, if you can't find a babywearing class but have a BWI chapter, they're run by people who have been certified in babywearing. (Awesome there's such a thing, right?) So they are super helpful with making sure you're wearing baby properly. (In my local group, you can just post a photo to the FB group and they'll give you pointers.)

  • Unfortunately my local baby wearing group is a little too much for me... very opinionated, breastfeeding only, anti-vax. I knew from fb posts that they were not for me before I did any meetups. Around the house I liked using a moby wrap and out and about I loved my ergo (and do for hiking at about 6 months we started using a kelty that I love). I only dabble in baby wearing but I loved the amount I did and expect a bit more with #2!

@KimmySchmidt thanks for the advice on camelcamelcamel I am so going to try it!

  • That's a bummer, @AnnaS930 ! I guess I got lucky in that my group pretty much just focuses on babywearing and leaves the rest alone! But everyday babywearing and babywearing 102 can be great resources on FB. You can post pics and people will give you tips, etc.

So excited that there are knowledgable baby wearing mamas on this board!  FTM and I really want to wear this baby but no one I know (other than my MIL 15 years ago) wore their babies. I will be checking out BWI and hoping there is something in my rural area!

  • I am excited to learn more about baby wearing too! Thanks for bringing this up @mom2adoodle!

Other random, I slept terribly because I went to bed mad at DH. Now I know why they say to never go to bed angry. :/

  • Second-thirding-whatever we're on now of how awesome babywearing is. I preferred my Ergo above things like the Moby (I felt the Ergo gave me more comfort and stability) and I was able to use it on hikes without worrying. I'm really glad that I still have it because I'm sure it'll come in more handy than ever now that I'll have more children than I do arms.

  • How exciting, @lovelylauren86 , what are you guys gonna do?
  • For those of you that will be going to baby wearing meetings, remember that some of the people there might not talk about it but are anti-vax. A friend from hs is one of the leaders of my local chapter and she does not vaccinate her kids. Yes, they might not talk about it but her kids still come to the meetings and since she's got three kids in different age groups, she lets people "practice" wrapping them. I would hate for anyone to take their newborn to a meeting and have them get something from someone else. I also know that when her kids had chicken pox, they had a baby wearing chicken pox party.

Not or trying to scare you but definitely be aware of things.
  • @marikkita12 chicken pox party? What did they do, pass around the kid's chicken pox for immunity? Ew.

  • They all got together and had a pool party. Put all the kids in a pool and hoped that they all got it
  • I remember chicken pox parties back in the day. But that was before the vaccine...

Wait what? This is a thing? I'm learning so many horrible things on this board.
  • wtf... i had never heard of a chix pox party either. I mean chix pox broke out in my 2nd grade class and it spread like wildfire, so it was inevitable that 7 yo kids would get it. But purposely throwing my kid in a pool of infected individuals? NMS.
People are seriously f*cked in the head.
  • I really wanted the Bruins to win  :'( now I wave to listen to my husband whine for a minimum of 4 more redwing games. Hockey season is so long
  • When we were kids chicken pox parties weren't uncommon. There wasn't a vaccine, and they said it was better to get it young. I remember one of my friends got it and her mom called mine and asked if she wanted to bring us over. We didn't.  With the vaccine being around sounds kind of silly...I mean if you get chicken pox the shingles virus is in your system and you may get that later on.
  • Do you guys think it's ok to dye my hair?? :p
  • @PSUBecky23 What ergo did you get for DH? Mine is pretty huge too and I want something not too frilly for him if that makes sense.
  • I think one of you baby wearing veterans should start a baby wearing thread ;) Just saying. I'd love to hear different perceptions and what worked for your family and why. Sometimes I see some crazy ring sling ties and think it looks just plain unsafe. I need to get over that haha
  • @lovelylauren86 workplace full of bruins fans who complain all season. They lost, are they out of the running now? Kinda hoping so

  • I never wore my two older kids, but definitely wore my daughter the last time 'round. We did moby while she was young, and then the ergo.

I am going to buy a huggaloops this time around for easier snuggly close baby wearing, and will use my ergo with the infant insert out and about. I agree with starting a baby wearing thread because, although I wore my daughter last time, there are so many different types of wraps to try and would love to hear everyone's experiences as well.

  • Feeling all sorry for myself and emotional. Some coworkers that I sometimes hang out with all posted a picture together celebrating one of their birthdays. I wasn't invited. I don't know if it's because I'm pregnant and they didn't think I would come, or if they just didn't want me there. Now my feelings are all hurt. :(

  • @blondie080300 UGH I feel your frustration! My DH does the same. He rarely goes out, but when he does it's always for waaaaay longer than he planned, and I usually have to fetch him, and he too thinks he should be fine to get himself home, even gets annoyed with me for "nagging." The disappointed, frustrated struggle is SO REAL. And then we are the ones who lose sleep over it, stewing about their stupid choices. I hope you laid into him the next day!

@LovelyLauren86 I've read that it's ok so long as the dye doesn't touch your scalp- so highlights and that sort of thing, not a whole head process, because if it touches your scalp the chemicals become absorbed into your system, and subsequently the baby's.

I'd love to find a babywearing class near me! I more just want to try out different things and see what works best. I know I don't want a carrier where the baby is hanging off of me. I have a large chest, so I want something comfortable that I can wear easily on the front or back. I want to wear the baby in front mostly, and eventually on my back. Would be great if DH could wear the carrier too. I know I don't like the loop ones- I don't want a big long piece of fabric hanging off me!

Shingles is brutal. DH had it last July. It's extremely painful. He was out of work for quite a few weeks, and had weekly check ups with an eye doctor to make sure it didn't cause blindness. Thankfully, his eyes were fine.
  • I have never heard of chicken pox parties either. I got it when it went around in my Kindergarten class then subsequently gave it to my little brother. That was '89-90. No way would my mom have tried to get me to catch it, even before the vaccine. That's just crazy.

  • @runningisrad that sucks. I have major fomo (fear of missing out) when something like that happens. I don't drink, so I often get skipped on invites. It's nice to at least have the option to say "I think I'll skip this one."

But, maybe it was spur-of-the-moment, and no one remembered there was an amazing friend missing.

Still stinks, though. I feel ya.

  • @pilotswifey right?! I mean, to be honest, I probably wouldn't have gone, or I wouldn't have stayed long. But being included would've been nice. We aren't the closest friends ever, but we've hung out several times and I always invite them to my bday things. I also have FOMO, and top that FOMO with pregnant hormones and you have me, at home, crying while watching Lost and eating cheese & crackers. So lame.

  • @LeahKnits I agree.  Shingles is serious business.

I somehow managed to get it when I was in early middle school.  I had it all up and down my back, but luckily it didn't spread any further or cause any lasting damage.  It was super painful, though.

My aunt had it and it left lasting nerve damage in her back and one arm.  She still has pain from the nerves it damaged, even decades later.  Scary stuff, but people treat chicken pox like it's nothing.  It's like some sort of weird childhood rite that people think is no big deal.

  • Thanks @SarahMConnors. DH and I had a really good talk today and he apologized and said that I was right to feel the way I did and he regretted not having a better plan, etc. He also admitted that he shouldn't have wanted to risk driving home and basically apologized for the way the whole day/night went down. He even said some other unexpected things about not feeling that scene so much anymore and how he realizes he needs to better plan and communicate with me if plans do change.

I later got a neck massage, wonderful love making and cupcakes. Oh and he did pick up a Detroit Tigers onesie while he was at the game with his guy friends so how adorable is that? We moved past it and I am very happy now. I love when he proves over and over why he was the perfect man for me to marry. Yes, we have our issues but we communicate really well when we have time to think about things (and sober up, lol).

@runningisrad I am sorry that happened. :( I read your post about missing out and felt really sad. I think we have all had something like that happen before and can relate to feelings of being excluded. I am sure it was nothing personal. If they are like the people I know, too many declines eventually gets you off the invite list for things like that. :( We are happy to have you here though!!!

  • @runningisrad I'm sorry- that stinks :( Happens to me a lot with my part-time job. I used to be full-time there and since I went part-time to start my new full-time job, they brought in a few newbies and formed a clique. Makes me feel left out and angry pretty much the whole time I'm there.

@blondie080300 I'm so glad it ended well after all. He sounds really wonderful :) Maybe your DH can train my DH? Massages and cupcakes would get him the love making my DH wants! He's had a cold for a few days, so I haven't even been able to snuggle with him :/ We should seriously start a thread, "Stupid crap DH does." I love my DH, but sometimes he just drives me INSANE!!!

Speaking of which, I need to vent- because I just don't understand man logic. Don't get me wrong, I love my husband and he's usually wonderful, but y'all know, they can be such flaming idiots sometimes and you just want to wring their necks, flipping them the bird when they're not looking, and wondering why on earth you're with them. Of course, we always go back to remembering why we love them, and realize they are human and make mistakes, but damn if I don't want to just kick him sometimes!
My hubby has been home sick for a few days with a cold, and I've been working both of my jobs, plus some extra hours. He's been generating more dishes and, of course, not washing them. I washed all but a few just earlier this week- the sink is now OVERFLOWING. I went to fill my water bottle, to realize he didn't fill the Brita pitcher or the ice cube trays. I go to do that, navigating around the mountain of dishes, and realize there are little ants swarming on some of the dirty dishes. Seriously? EW. He walks into the kitchen and does the stupid fake-innocent confused man "what??" like I'm making a mountain out of an ant hill (lol). So I mention the ants to him, and he goes "oh yea, they've been there." Seriously??? And you did NOTHING? UGH! The sink was just clean earlier this week wtf!? And where on earth did these ants come from??
So I started to clean it up because again, EW! He comes back in and asks what I'm doing a few minutes later (DUH), and I said cleaning it up as much as I can for now, and I guess I'm doing dishes tomorrow. He gets annoyed with me, says no point doing it right now, freaking FARTS in the kitchen, and dashes out, leaving me in a cloud of putrid stank. Mystified, I asked him if he farted and then ran out, and he says, proudly, from the other room "yup!" to which I replied "That's disgusting." Then I hear him grumble under his breath and go to bed. Without the usual good night, I'm going to bed, love you, nothing. And I'm supposed to be the one having the mood swings? UGH!!!!! And, I'm sorry, but when I'm home sick I still clean up after myself for Fs sake. Stupid man child. It's taking all my strength to a) not end him and b) not start scrubbing every inch of everything. Officially skeeved AND peeved.
    Alright, rant over. *sigh*

  • Oooohhhhh HELL noooooooo @SarahMConnors! Ants AND farts?! Who does he think he is? I am so angry for you! He has a cold and thinks he gets a free pass on all of this? I know you love him but right now, I would flip him off to his face, not behind his back. Lol. So gross! I feel for you, girl!!
