Just now catching up on this. For those of you wondering. My intent was to use a scripture to state my opinion, and a fact of my life. It appears to be an UO. That is what this thread is all about. I respect everyone's opinion, I just choose to have a different opinion. If any offense was taken, then I'm sorry. No offense was intended.
I'm was raised Catholic. I understand Agnotism, but have a hard time understanding Atheism. Doubting/wondering about the existence of any god(s), higher powers etc seems much more logical to me. Believing strongly in the absence of ANYTHING of the sort perplexes me. The universe is a big place, being doubtful but open to the possibility makes a lot of sense to me.
This is a common misconception! Being atheist doesn't mean not believing in anything. I am 100% atheist and I believe in a higher power that governs everything in the universe. I call it physics and chemistry. Physics and chemistry can answer every question about the universe you may have. Some things are still unknown, but I'm ok with that, because I understand that science and technology are ever-evolving and I know that we will learn more every day.
Religion served an important purpose - providing reason for things humans couldn't explain. And that was fine. But as human knowledge expands exponentially, religion just can't keep up. This is probably why the incidence of atheism is climbing so rapidly.
I'm right there with you ladies! My sister and we'll all of my FB friends are obsessed with it so I avoid it on TWD days because that's the only thing they post about. I don't like zombies and I'm insanely squeamish so I couldn't stomach that show. During the finale night I posted a status update that said "Daryl is going to die, brace yourselves" and my sister actually called me on FaceTime threatening me but also cracking up.
I am also in the science boat. Science can say "this happened, and here is how/why" rather than just blindly believing in a religious theory of how or why something was created. I don't like grey areas in life and I never have, and I think that's why it was so easy for me to leave the church and create my own way of thinking. Science is black and white. I do not believe in something above watching over us, listening to us talk, helping us, etc - but only because it cannot be proven. That's how my mind works.

I totally believe in science and evolution but sometimes when stuff works out in crazy ways I can't help but think some type of higher power or destiny worked on that
I fully believe in science and all the questions it answers about our universe, but I also believe in God. I guess that's why I personally have a hard time understanding the atheist side. Because in my life, they complement each other. Not contradict each other.
But believing isn't a choice for me, so I can see how *not* believing in a God isn't a choice for others. So I guess I kind of understand? If that makes any sense. Lol
@beecharmer82 I read the comics and am right there with you hoping that they decide not to do what's in there this time. Having said that, I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the perfect Negan (and perfect in other ways, too ). I'm looking forward to him. TWD is life on Sundays.
I believe in God and in Jesus and the whole crew. It brings me comfort and peace and praying helps me find both. I also believe in and am fascinated by science and there are many things in the Bible that I side-eye. But I understand that many people guide themselves by it. We belong to an open and affirming church that praises God and accepts EVERYONE. They turn no one away and those are the kinds of morals that we want to instill in our children. They will eventually grow up and believe in what they believe in (or not believe in) but if we raised people who accept everyone for who they are and let people love each other openly without judgement or ridicule, then we have done part of our jobs as parents.
Side Story: When DH was in the 2nd grade, he was put into a Catholic School. One day during Bible studies, he and his twin brother asked why the Dinosaurs weren't in the Bible. The nun gave them detention for questioning God.
Does anyone read the comics (TWD) in addition to watching the show? Hoping the season opener doesn't stick too closely to the comic.
My SO read them so he of course thinks he knows exactly who it is. I don't think they'll follow the comics exactly, they haven't so far. So I think it's someone else.
