@RainMira9e WHAT I can't believe spoilers don't bother you!! I get so ragey if someone even begins to act like they are going to spoil something. Especially Greys Anatomy right now since I just started watching it.
Honestly the reason I want to be team green is because I think finding out the sex before birth is a huge spoiler and I can't take it.
I don't know if this will be an UO or a PO but I CANNOT STAND when people enter their kid in a "cutest baby" contest and then harrass people on FB to vote for their kid. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh
I've entered half a hotdog in a "cutest baby" contest before, because submissions were automated and I am an asshole. It did surprisingly well.
@RainMira9e I'm the same way with spoilers. Don't care about spoilers! I didn't follow what was going on with the force awakens and had no idea what to expect as far as plot went. I didn't even watch the movie trailers. I was geeking out and practically squealing throughout the movie. when I saw that Rey had force powers....I was done. My SHEro! I really enjoyed the movie and going into it without any ideas made it more exciting to watch. I guess i understand why spoilers piss people off.
I love love love the characters and story. I'm certain that Rey is Luke's daughter. I'm going to cosplay Rey for the next Denver comic con that I'm not pregnant. Any other fans out there? I have a feeling #captainphasma is a fan.
You can say Star Wars plays a small part in my day to day life. *Cuddles Lightsaber Collection* Also did you SEE the Rogue One trailer today? Holy shit! That Imperial jacket she is wearing at the end is the stuff of dreams. I can't wait for Musterbrand to put out some replicas!
Joshua 24:15 but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
You are absolutely right. After all:
"I am not a man of words. But I respect the power of words, for that is what transformed me. The words of the Sith Code. Others had heard them, contemplated them, and so on. But I understood them, and they changed me. For what was I before I heard those words? Nothing."
Yeah, I could totally get with serving the Time Lords too. RAWR.
The Lord of the Rings, on the other hand.....that doesn't seem to work out so well. And while the verdict is still out on the Lord of Light, Melisandre scares me.
On the topic of Santa, while DH and I fully intend to do Santa Claus with LO, I will not do Elf on the Shelf. It just seems like a way to threaten your kids into behaving. I will admit that I enjoy some of the "dirty Elf" pictures I've seen online.
@emmaaa and @MRSCORKER We have an elf on the shelf but not in a manner of "oh he's watching you and you must behave". I have a fantastic time setting him up into funny, mischievous things and love seeing the kids look around for him and go into fits of giggles when they see what he's done. It has honestly made Christmas that much more fun but it's also my favorite time of year so that could be why! Lol I'm just saying he can just be a fun thing without the creepy "watching" part.
^^^ I was wondering if anyone else felt sorta awkward with that. I didn't feel good about bringing up my discomfort because @AshleyGemini24 can explain her position in a way that feels appropriate to her.
I can't figure out why others quoting the bible is so off putting to me. Sorry Ashley but this is a UO thread, it's a yuck for me
I took it as @AshleyGemini24 just saying that she is a christian, just as many of us were saying we are atheists. Correct me if I'm wrong, @AshleyGemini24, but I don't think she meant any harm. After all, I think after reading all of our atheist posts, I think her post is a pretty unpopular opinion.

Exactly what I was going to say! As long as no one is forcing their opinions on others or suggesting they assist me by praying for me (ARRRRRRGHHHH!), then they have every right to voice their opinion.
so I'm jewish by birth I minimally do holidays never temple but my mom a few weeks ago goes "can we go into the Jesus bookstore?" clearly I looked horrified. she wanted to get me st Gerard on a metal for my purse bc he's the Saint for healthy pregnancies. after 2 losses she was willing to broaden her horizons (and he's doing his job apparently)

Here's why that post rubbed me the wrong way (and I was happy to snark about it):
Religion is a very sensitive subject, and everyone who had posted up until that point made sure to share their views in a way that was respectful, empathetic, acknowledged differences, and appreciated that the faith or beliefs of one person aren't the right or best faiths or beliefs for everyone. Up until that point, I was very pleasantly surprised and happy that our BMB had such a productive, kind, considerate discussion on a tough topic.
And then there was a one-line scripture drop that *literally* was "holier than thou". No attempt to share perspectives. No attempt to understand others. No attempt to empathize or acknowledge differences. It was sad to see that sort of rudeness in what had been such a nice discussion until that point.
So I was happy to ponder exactly what Lord someone is worshipping....
@FemShep It rubbed me the wrong way as well. If she had said "I'm a Christian and will be raising my children as such", I wouldn't have found it off-putting. Because the post was purely a scripture quote, it feels like she's using the quote/the bible as evidence that her stance is the correct one. Does that make sense? I don't know if it was intended as such, but that's why scripture quotes generally bother me and the post bothered me as well.
And I also was really really pleased with how great and considerate and thoughtful everyone has been with such a controversial topic.
@emmaaa and @MRSCORKER so I was totally against doing the elf on the shelf thing. (I am a high school teacher and my DD will go to a school in my district) and the moms that I am friends with at school told me that all the elementary teachers have one in their room and all the kids talk about what their elves do at night and such....so now I am like dammit do I really have to do this crap so my kids isn't the only one not participating in this ridiculousness!

I think it's correct for her and that's OK. Citation of scholarly journals and research doesn't bother me. I could pull a quote from any work of fiction and share it to help illustrate a point. I guess I need to just get over it and not be so picky. Again, I wouldn't normally even complain about something like that because it seems kinda petty
@ejmo68 I feel the same way about elf on a shelf. I think I'm just going to say elf it and accept it. My kid had a horrible childhood because I wouldn't participate. *shrug*

I'm just catching up on this now...had a whirlwind 24 hour work trip but anyways just had to comment that I'm Catholic and say a prayer to St Gerard every night for this pregnancy/baby. I def believe in that stuff, and even if you don't, it can't hurt right?
I'm was raised Catholic. I understand Agnotism, but have a hard time understanding Atheism. Doubting/wondering about the existence of any god(s), higher powers etc seems much more logical to me. Believing strongly in the absence of ANYTHING of the sort perplexes me. The universe is a big place, being doubtful but open to the possibility makes a lot of sense to me.
@TheBeeCharmer I question my own beliefs sometimes, but also have a hard time understanding atheism. But I think it's like that with any belief that is such a huge part of your life and who you are. It's hard to understand another perspective. I know many atheists who feel the same way about my religious beliefs.
But I don't think we all need to understand each other to accept each other and get along. Not sure how this got so touch feely. Lol
@TheBeeCharmer Oh I was agreeing with you. I didn't mean to sound preachy. Lol. I agree, it's hard to understand another perspective when yours is such a huge part of your life. I don't know how my post got so touchy feely. I was just typing and that's what came out. Lol
@TheBeeCharmer I do identify as an athiest, although maybe I'm more agnostic than I think. I don't believe in a god. That's my default. I have too many issues with religious foundations. But I have no idea what the "truth" is, no one does. That's why I can't say I believe in God, and I certainly can't say that one religion is somehow superior to another. They're all speculation to me. And I do question my beliefs and struggle with these questions ALL the time. But I think that's part of life. I don't pretend to have the answers, that's one of the really hard parts about athiesm/agnosticism. There are no answers. Personally I don't shut out the possibility of a god, but on the other hand I have a lot of problems with him/her/it if there is one haha
anyway, I don't really know what most atheists believe (or how much they don't believe). Just thought I'd share my athiest/agnostic perspective on it. It's pretty much what I shared earlier about questioning the world.
@LGW2015 thank you for that. I've varied between Christian and agnostic my whole life. I've always envied those who can believe blindly. I'm always still searching, personally. Loving this deep UO!

I believe in science.
I'm not sure how to say this without offending anyone, so I apologize in advance because this will certainly ruffle a few feathers of Christian members of this board.
To me, putting all of your faith in some higher being seems like a fairy tale. I don't believe in fairy tales.Science has done a great deal in explaining a lot of life's mysteries.
But....I understand everyone needs something to believe in - whether its some kind of God, the stars, or science itself. So I don't begrudge people that have these differing views than me, so long as they're trying not to stuff it down my throat. I try not to do the same to others.
Again...I didn't know how else to analogize my thoughts about religion vs science and so I understand it will offend some, and I am sincerely sorry. This will be the only time I say something like this (unless someone questions why I am an atheist).
@missteacherlady16 there is rampant belief questioning on all "sides". I also believe in science. As a scientist (or science teacher really) I have encountered so many things that I haven't personally been able to explain. That isn't to say they aren't "explainable"at some juncture. The universe is a fascinating place.
