My first reaction to the stroller thing is: Why do I even need one? I never leave the house. My second reaction: Oh crap, does having a baby mean I'll have to leave my house?
Trust me, target, Walmart, the grocery store will all be your hang out. Anywhere that has other adults and your baby is entertained by. The number of times I went to the store to buy one item because it got us in a new environment and changed his mood was crazy.

Totally agree with this one!  My first was born during the worst winter we had seen in years, so I really didn't leave the house much.  He was a super fussy baby so I was always afraid to take him anywhere.  But whenever we did, he always did so awesome!  Learned my lesson on that one.

And if you're afraid of germs, just keep him/her in a carseat carrier.  I did that when I first brought my son into work to meet everyone at 5 weeks.  Then, after his 2 month shots, I felt more comfortable about having people actually hold him.

I woke up last Tuesday morning with a dark/blurry spot in the field of vision in my right eye (thankfully, I only see it when I look downward; I can't see it when I look straight forward). I went to the ophthalmologist this morning and apparently I have a scotoma caused by a retinal hemorrhage in my eye. He referred me to an optical surgeon and depending on the degree of severity, I might have to have surgery on my right eye.

I was fine with all of that until I read that having the surgery can cause permanent damage to your vision field. What the eff?!?! Now I'm kind of freaking out. I want to be able to see my baby perfectly!  :/

  • @ashleyp625 OMG.  how did you not punch her?
It is a daily struggle not to do that very thing! I keep telling myself I need to keep earning that paycheck ;)
  • @ashleyp25, I honestly don't know how you teach middle school! I have a SS in middle school as well as a nephew and my sister and I constantly remark how Middle Schoolers are just jerks! Lol sometimes even jerk is putting it nicely but it seems like when kids get to that age they don't quite know who they are yet, are starting to go through puberty and they are just creeps. I give you all the credit in the world!!
  • Ok @AllyTheKid now I'm going to creep that board! Lol

Thank you :) Most of the time, I love them, but there are a few who really take the cake some days! Haha
  • Finally breaking down and going shopping today. Can't deal with the not being able to breath in my jeans anymore.
  • @CopperBoom86 - I'm so sorry, that is scary!  I wonder how often that happens?  Maybe visit with the surgeon about the odds.  When I had to have my gallbladder removed, the surgeon basically went through EVERYTHING that could possibly go wrong (which, I know they're supposed to, so you know the risks).  Freaked me out 'til no end!!!  However, he said he had performed the surgery hundreds of times with no complications, which put me a little more at ease.  And everything went fine.  Wishing you the best!

  • Anyone know of good quality maternity clothes (mainly dresses) that I can get for less than $40 a pop? I am struggling to find cute ones, and dresses make it easier with just one outfit and being large in the summer time in SC, that aren't $40-50 a dress. :(

@samijrichards  Have you tried asos maternity, h&m maternity, or old navy? I haven't looked recently, but if I remember correctly, these had some really cute options for under $40. Also, I'm not 100% about higher quality, but I think they'd definitely get you through the summer.

  • I'm planning on cutting BIL and his evil wife out of our lives. They are allllllll about the drama and will stop at nothing to get what they want. The most recent drama is whether or not we're finding out the baby's sex. I said DH and I are negotiating because DH wants to know but I want to go team green. BIL goes off on this rant about how people who find out but don't tell (what we did with DS) are dumb and that not finding out at all is also dumb. That if you wait till birth that the importance of the gender will be overshadowed by the birth itself. People can't buy you gifts if they don't know what you're having. And how are people supposed to bond with baby (in utero, mind you) if they don't know baby's sex?!

With DS, fists were almost thrown on multiple occasions because BIL was so irate that we wouldn't tell them.

    I. Am. Done.

  • I really like Victorias Secret sports bras (the good ones with maximum support), but I'm kind of out growing them. On the other hand, they're the only ones that are up to the task right now. I really need to do some bra shopping.

@samijrichards I am also a huge maxi dress fan in the summer (live in TX) and was having bad day on Wednesday...so I went online shopping to drown my sorrows and ordered 4 maxi dresses on Zulily for a little over $100. Most were around $25-$35 and were super cute. Also I've seen some really cute ones on pinkblushmaternity.com and they have random sales all the time that look to be pretty good. Good luck - let me know if you find anything!
  • I really need to get a job at my OB office because I would have the best hours ever seeing as they're NEVER OPEN. It's a weekday at 1:30, why is the office closed?! I would like the results of my finger prick please.

  • Amazon has a ton of really cute maternity dresses.
  • I'm not sure what thread to put this under, but I just need to vent. My MaterniT21 results came back today & all looks normal, so happy about that! I have the sealed envelope with the gender in my purse right now. DH & I have plans to go to dinner with his best friend & wife tonight & we're going to open the envelope there at the restaurant. I've been on cloud 9 all day....until I get a text from the MIL that says we better not tell any friends before we tell her. I explained that we're going to dinner with these friends, but everyone else will find out at the same time, including my family. She threw a giant hissy fit & text back "that's a crock of shit" And then went on to say that the wife is not even my best friend & what bullshit it is that she gets to know first & a bunch of other selfish stuff, because it's all about her, right? And called DH bitching as well. DH is now pissed & wants to just skip the whole thing we had planned & open it when he gets home. I just had a giant, sobbing meltdown & my blood pressure is sky high, I know this is not good. Have had a very emotional week anyway & now I feel like all the joy I had has been sucked out of me & I just feel sad. This should be a happy, happy day & I know I shouldn't let her ruin it but gahhh she just gets to me & I can't control my emotions at all these days!
  • @MRSCORKER I went to the OB today and ran into a friend who said she thinks our office closes at noon on Friday. I wasn't aware of this, but maybe that's the case. Not sure if that's a common practice with OB offices, though.

  • @Kaessi I'm so sorry you're upset and stressed when it should be a happy day :( I'm not a huge fan of my MIL so I'm always super sympathetic to others with MIL problems.

Maybe you could ask the restaurant to take the envelope and bring it out to you guys with boy or girl written in chocolate sauce or something simple like that for dessert, that way you technically didn't tell your friends. I know that's kinda sneaky, but it would be a cute, memorable way for you and your husband to get the news and that's all that matters. Oh, just saw @SuperNerd42 's suggestion and that's cute, too! If your MIL is upset, let her be. She'll get over it eventually.

I too need to vent. I am sitting at work close to a meltdown because I thought I was eligible for at least 12 weeks at 60% pay for maternity leave when in fact I can only receive 2 weeks paid and 4 weeks unpaid for a total of 6 weeks. Apparently leave can only be counted as the time it takes for the mother to heal, 6 weeks, and anything beyond that is considered "baby bonding" and isn't eligible for paid leave. How am I supposed to bond with my baby in 6 weeks time and how is baby bonding not considered part of a mother's healing process?! Because of how depressed I have been lately I am already concerned about PPD.

ETA: Just for perspective, I work for a decent sized, regional bank.
  • So, I took today off for a little "me" time. I've been feeling kinda blah about myself with the acne and bloat and just generally feeling like a pufferfish. I got my hair highlighted, brows waxed, nails done, bought a new pair of shoes and was starting to feel a little pep in my step when I came home and tried on my Rent the Runway dress I ordered for a wedding tomorrow. I looked like a big fat blueberry with puffy sleeves. Major sad face. I can't wait to have a big huge pregnant belly so that I actually look pregnant instead of someone who likes burritos too much.

@Kaessi that's really rough. In the grand scheme of things. ....it really doesn't matter if your MIL hears it first or last. It's just the sex of the baby.  You are also the mom and the one who will make these kinds of decisions. You aren't trying to hurt her by telling her second (Wtf really?!). new Grandmas are used to being in control and it will take some adjusting. It sounds like she was totally out of line and if I were you I would have a heart to heart with her and DH. You guys are the parents not Gma! Set boundaries or you could get walked all over. I've heard of stuff like this happening with being present during L&D too. All my in laws were fighting over who could visit us first.

  • @smmatt08 Ugh. The mat/pat leave policies here are shameful. That is crazy that you work for a pretty good sized bank and they think 6 weeks is reasonable. I'm sorry :(

  • I agree with @jillianpardo ... go on with your plans! The cupcakes are a super cute idea!

I have to take a business trip to Houston, alone, for a week towards the end of June. I coincidentally just watched Unique Eats' Houston episode and I give zero fucks if look like a lonely pregnant woman eating alone everywhere. I am going to eat all of the food.

  • @Kaessi I agree with everyone. Your mother in law is being a total child and should be punished. Honestly I might hold out on her because she's being demanding just to show her she can't control you.

Or, if you're nice, text her as soon as you find out. Or text her a pic as soon as you see the filling to theoretically be nice but really show her how much fun you're having without her =)

  • My youngest is sick today :( she puked while I was driving her older sis to school. The worst.  I was so worried she was going to choke. I couldn't pull over fast enough. We live 5 mins from school and I didn't grab a diaper bag. Poor thing.  I had a towel in my trunk so I used that to try and clean her up. I hate it when my kids throw up.  I can't stand vomiting. It's such a terrible feeling.  I hate that they are experiencing it.
