I'm only posting this because of the chocolate cake part of this discussion... so since this year is my 30th birthday and I can't celebrate with booze and I've been feeling huge, I ordered myself a self esteem boosing cake. Also because I was craving cake bad..
Just picked it up & will be celebrating the remainder of my birthday today sitting on the couch in sweatpants and eating chocolate cake. Happy birthday to me!
I accidentally locked my cat in the bathroom today. Luckily DH got home early because he was at a training so the cat was only in there for 4 hours instead of longer. DH said when he let him out our cat was kind of bewildered but otherwise fine, but I feel terrible. My poor baby.
I once locked my cat in a closet for 10 hours while I was at work Tou would think she would stay away from closets now right? Not so much. I have ocd almost every day about it and triple check for her before I leave the house every day.
Same with our cat.. he has been locked in the bathroom before. I don't blame you for double checking! Our guy likes to hide behind the claw foot tub so even if I do see him dash in there, I just have to leave the door open because it's impossible to get him from there.
One of my friends has a 3 year old who has apparently purposefully started shutting one of their cats in the closet - not to be mean, but she just doesn't get yet why that is bad. Although I question why the cat keeps going in the closet at this point (much like I'm sure you do yours!)

I was really craving Dunkin's (as a substitute for the delicious chocolate cake THAT EVERYONE KEEPS REPOSTING BECAUSE YOU ARE CRUEL), so I ran to get some tonight after work... jerks at Dunkin's had turned off all their outside lights and the drivethru menu board so it looked like they were closed, but they weren't supposed to be closed for another 35 minutes. Their doors were open and I still got some chocolate doughnuts, but I am totally judging them that they were trying to play possum so early. (5 - 10 minutes I can understand, but a good half hour before closing? Hardcore judgement.)
Going home from work early tonight. I'm tired and extra achy... My coworker came and rubbed my back for a few minutes. Do you think it would be weird if I asked her if I could take her home with me?

Had to fork out about $400 just now for an electrician for a fault that we only picked up this morning. What the heck world, didn't you get the memo that I am pregnant and that babies are expensive?!
So i just read a brief article on Babble.com about dad's role in the pregnancy. It referenced a study that said dads confidence could be effected by not having anything to do. And that this could carry over into parenting. This was written by a birth class teacher. I agree with the writer that "we" are not pregnant, i am. The baby is in my uterus, he doesn't even have one. I was alone at 2am throwing up in the sink while be got a good night's sleep. It's my feet, ankles, and hands that are swollen to the point i can't wear my rings and need bigger shoes. I repeat, WE are not pregnant, I am. We are having a baby though. I havent taken any classes but shouldn't that be the whole set up? That men are there for support not to actually be in labor? I understand the helpless feelings that men get but how would that be better by staying in the waiting room? Why did we need a study for this?
@Soontobejones33I have pulled the "lucky you" in a mean way through-out my pregnancy if we ever get into spats. I'll tell him he can't relate, and whatever mean thing I can think of in those heat of the moments, but it only takes one week of my husband going out of town to make me realize just how much he is contributing to our pregnancy. And yes, I used "our."
No, he's not carrying the baby. He hasn't had to deal with awful heat rash or this new fun pelvic pain, but he does have to deal with my hormonal rampages, my tossing and turning in bed to get comfortable (which keeps him up), and my awful fatigue. And never once has he thrown any of that back into my face. He has a pretty demanding job where he works 50+ hours a week, but yet he still handles the dog duties, he'll walk through the door ready to get in the kitchen and cook dinner, he'll bring home flowers randomly, he does the Sunday morning grocery and Costco runs so I can rest, and even if he's falling asleep on the couch, if I ask for a tennis ball back massage that we learned how to do in the birthing class, he will wake up and massage me. He's gone to every appointment without me even asking unless he's out of town. In the first trimester, he'd run out to get me whatever I thought I needed to help with my all day morning sickness. When I went into full anxiety mode suffering from an awful cold and facing potentially having GB, he was the one on the phone with the nurses to gather more info to calm my nerves. So, physically my husband is not pregnant, but he's been feeling the emotions and the fatigue of pregnancy as well, and I have to give credit where credit is due. I don't know how I could be pregnant without this man. I'm physically supporting the baby, but he's mentally and physically supporting me. I feel like it is our pregnancy, and we're both in it together.
My co-worker's wife just brought their 2-month-old daughter in to meet our department this afternoon. She was so tiny and adorable! I still can't believe I'm going to have one of those next month!
What is going on with this crazy climate change?!? I just got a weather alert to my phone announcing a winter weather advisory for 4in of snow overnight through tomorrow morning! It's APRIL. Mother nature, please get yourself together and/or help me kick the butt of whatever is making you nuts so you can operate properly again. Really though: we're throwing a family birthday bash for my son tomorrow afternoon and I have food and cake to pick up tomorrow morning that I'd like to be able to do without snow and ice...since it's spring.
@missnc77 . Yep your husbands sounds FANTASTIC, but still not pregnant. He can bow out whenever he wants, walk away and completely act as if its not happening. Some post have addressesd this man. Booooooo. But the support is where the man can shine. Thats why i say I'm pregnant but We are having a baby. Physically its all on me, pregnancy, but mentally we should be in it together. You sound like you got 100% in it together. Mine is at about 75% these days and total 50% throughout. I really think there were days when he actually forget I was pregnant. Until i was like, you're really going to let your pregnant wife do...? I give him the benefit of the doubt because I'm really independent and low maintenance usually so the increase need for attention is suprising him.
My birth teacher said it was moms job to carry the baby, grow the baby, feed the baby (if she chooses to breastfeed) and dads main job was to be the "oxytocin protector", he needed to keep the room calm, keep negative energy away, and protect his new family from any forces that might make moms job harder. I thought that was a great way to put it because it made things seem more equal to me. Yes it's my body that's being taxed to bring LO into the world, but the only reason I can do that successfully is because I'm being cared for and protected by my DH.
I had an awesome parent bring in a gift for little Luna. She is the same parent who went toe-to-toe with my nursing supervisor yesterday and has made it clear that she will back me no matter what if sh*t hits the fan before my maternity leave starts (which it very well may!). She got us a set of aden and anais swaddles and a super adorable night gown, all in pinks with owls on them...which is eerie because that is the planned theme of the nursery. How in the world could she have known that? I tried to say it was way too much and she really didn't have to, but she was so insistent and said all she asks is that I send her a picture of the little girl as soon as I can (she has 4 sons and confided in me that she always wanted a girl!). She is so generous and I feel so honored to have been able to be part of her son's school day. I know I am crossing all sorts of lines with her, but I feel like it is important for us to have a very strong bond so we are a united front in caring for her medically involved child. I want her to know how invested I am in caring for her son because I cannot imagine how stressful and scary it must be to let your child be away from you when they have such a complicated and life-threatening illness.

FYI - Babies R Us registries are glitchy as ever. Apparently I am now the proud owner of 2 cribs. My team at work bought us one, but my parents apparently bought us one also. They haven't given it to us yet so thankfully they're going to 'take care of it'. But apparently even though they had it scanned correctly it never came off the registry. Also apparently when my pack n play was bought it actually added a second one to the registry instead of removing the one we asked for... Oops.
In other news... My co-workers are amazing and the shower they threw me today was so much more than I ever could have imagined. So many people came to the shower and we got so many nice things. It makes me so much more excited for the baby seeing how many people actually care.

I've looked at Etsy and different places so I know what's out there, but interested in what you are doing, if anything, or have done before. So much of the attention has been on me and baby, of course, but I want him to know how important he is and how blessed our daughter is to have him as daddy. Ideas?

My DH is the sentimental one of this relationship. I want to do something nice for him too, especially since he's had to pick up the slack on all the things I can't do while on bed rest. But our anniversary is later this month so maybe I will just go big on that instead? We usually do silly gifts for our anniversary.

No, he's not carrying the baby. He hasn't had to deal with awful heat rash or this new fun pelvic pain, but he does have to deal with my hormonal rampages, my tossing and turning in bed to get comfortable (which keeps him up), and my awful fatigue. And never once has he thrown any of that back into my face.
