@AnnaS930- We have the Shark Vacuum and plan on getting the steam mop once we get new fancy hardwood floors. You'll have to let me know if it's all it's hyped up to be
And @PSUBecky23- I haven't been able to eat chicken either. Except chicken McNuggets.
@beachmama14- I actually don't do much caffeine when not pregnant, but working full time, 16 monther at home and 18 weeks pregnant has me really dragging some days. I have a cup of coffee about 2 or 3 times a week (and in truth, it's often more for the bathroom benefits than the caffeine). Then maybe a day or two a week I drink a diet soda in the afternoon (on days without coffee) if my eyelids get heavy at my desk. This amount of caffeine in the second trimester doesn't spook me in the least.
GUYS! I just want to go home and STEAM MOP! I will be counting down the seconds to toddler bedtime at 730 when I can get my steam on. I should text my husband I'm feeling "steamy" bahahahaha, poor guy would get his hopes up to watch me clean the floors!
@UnwritteN12 sending good vibes your way for your son!
my random is that today it was completely ruled out that our new house will be done before baby is born. Earliest is end of October. I am a little upset but also a little relieved because it will be an hour away from the hospital I am planning to give birth at (our current house is 5 minutes). Also it will be getting done while I'm on maternity leave so I will have time to decorate and get everything set how I want it.
I cut off caffeine completely when we found out I was pregnant, but it was hard because I LOVE SODA! My company provides free soda so it's been hard. Although I never drank more than 1 a day anyway, I am not one of those people who substitutes soda for water. Now that I am in the 2nd tri I want to go back to drink it here and there but my husband has always been anti-caffeine and is giving me a hard time

I try to stay under 200mg of caffeine. So a cup or two of coffee in the morning. Occasionally, if I've only had one cup in the morning, I'll have a diet coke or iced tea in the afternoon. I know this is googable but I'm lazy - why is there a recommendation against caffeine? Risk of miscarriage? Dehydration?
@AnnaS930 - I definitely vote that you send him that text. Too funny! @Thscary - Way to put a positive spin on it! I bet it'll work out better that way for sure. The hour drive vs. the 5 minute drive to the hospital would for sure be enough for me to be ok with it.
@beachmama14 Yes I see tons of moms walking our neighborhood with strollers! I could probably ask around and see if they all do it at certain times/days as well as look up other local groups. As for your caffeine question, I think fruit is the next best thing for me as a little pick me up, esp. in the afternoons. I try to pack an apple or some pineapple, or go get a smoothie. That usually tides me over until I can go home and crash on my couch until dinner!
Caffeine doesn't do anything for me as far as staying awake. I love my coffee, but it's more of a comfort thing- the smell, holding a warm mug, sipping on a warm drink. One of my favorite things to do was have a coffee in the evening with a cookie, then go to bed. Such a good combo. I would drink it in the morning too, but also more of a comfort thing. Coffee was definitely an aversion for me first trimester. It didn't sound good at all. Now I'll make myself a decaf cappuccino a few days a week. Love our Ninja Coffee maker!
Yum fried chicken sandwich! I was actually craving a chicken patty with BBQ sauce the other day. Like they used to have in school lunches. We will go to Chick Fil A on Saturday. There is only one in Madison and it's on the complete opposite side of town from us, but on Saturday we'll be in the neighborhood. Yum! My mom's family is all on the East coast, they laughed at me because when we first got Chick Fill A I asked what is chick-a-fill?
Question on registering: DH and I are planning on doing it soon, and were thinking of putting a digital camera on our Target registry. We both want one so we can take photos of our baby on a not-cell phone camera, but it's not traditionally a baby item. My thought was that if no one bought it for us (understandable!) we could just use the 10% completion discount towards it, but I didn't know if including it would seem tacky. What do you think? If you saw a digital camera on the baby shower list would it seem to out of place or gift grabby? We're looking into a point and shoot (probs around $300), not like an $800 DSLR, if that makes a difference.
@PoodleDoodleOoo personally, I don't worry about what people think of my registry. The people who are looking at it are the people who know me the best. I think your reasoning is good. If people don't want to buy it for you, then they'll buy the cheaper stuff.
@PoodleDoodleOoo I would probably think it looked a little out of place, but I wouldn't over think it. I get wanting it on there for the completion discount. If it's the only non-baby item, I wouldn't worry.
@UnwritteN12 Sending good thoughts your way for your son!
I'm a psychologist, not a psychiatrist (so I can't prescribe medication), but I can tell you that ADHD meds won't turn him into a zombie or even into a different kid, just a more balanced version of himself. If anything, most parents whose children need meds for their ADHD see positive changes in personality (in that they aren't under the constant stress of their brain outrunning their body).
Like others have said, not every kid with an ADHD diagnosis needs medication, but if he does get diagnosed and needs meds, it's not typically a big deal. He'll need his dosages adjusted (at first and then as he gets older/bigger), but that should be the "worst" of it.
@PoodleDoodleOoo I would think most people would understand why you would want a camera when you have a baby. I have a real camera and I love it. It isn't like you are registering for a new tv or something.
Also if you are looking into cameras try looking a mirrorless cameras, they are similar to SLRs but lighter, smaller, and take generally faster pictures. I have a sony a6000 that I love and when some go onsale they can be pretty reasonable (although some are crazy expensive!)

I would think the camera looked a bit out of place but wouldn't think anything more of it. If you're concerned you could maybe add it to the registry after your shower. Then you could still get the discount. I never registered at Target, but I know at Babies R Us as long as it's on the registry before the due date you're golden for the discounts.
@lovelylauren86- that may be true, but I HATE my cell phone camera (I have a Samsung galaxy 5). It's really slow and I don't think the pictures are very high quality. I thought my old galaxy 4 looked better than the 5.
And that's a good idea @kosmo86 - I know want a DSLR eventually, but I want something a little more portable (and affordable) in the meantime. I'll look into the mirror less ones!
Ooh, good idea from SaraJuul. If I saw a camera on a registry I would probably say "oh please! I'm not buying that" but I 100% get the registry completion discount.. we registered for some super expensive stuff that never in a million years thought anyone would buy (surprisingly some families banded together and did buy huge items as a joint gift - hip hp hooray!). Adding one on there late might be a good idea, but really, if it's one thing I think it's pretty reasonable to put it on there, it's your checklist for baby not just the gifts you expect others to pay for! It's certainly a "baby" item in my eyes, it's the only time we take out our actual camera is when it's a big event for our son.
@MojieJo I'm not a psychiatrist either, but I can tell you from experience with close friends that medication can cause the "zombie" symptoms or worse (think hyper-aggression...) if it's not the right pill or dosage. I am not saying that there isn't necessarily a good fit for a child, and I do believe that for many it is the best management path. I do recognize the concerns and the desire to try to find a management plan for a child that focuses less on pharmaceuticals and more on behavior therapies and coping strategies.
@PSUBecky23 the caffeine recommendations are in place because there is an association between caffeine intake and risk for miscarriage. The recommendation is 200mg/day. There's also some other, smaller concerns as well, but miscarriage is the major concern

My best friend just officially started planning our sex reveal party and it's Game of Thrones themed! I am so excited. I'm totally buying this shirt to wear.
Fun fact - frozen dunkaccinos at Dunkin are relatively low as well... although they do carry a hefty 400 calories. In pregnancy we're supposed to eat an extra 300 or so calories a day right? Might as well spend them on deliciousness... might just get one tomorrow!
@runningisrad - love the shirt. My bday is tomorrow and DH got me a harry potter maternity shirt, I asked him if he can give it to me tonight so I can wash it and wear to work tomorrow!

@jabreen Oh, I agree, some psychiatric meds can have the zombie effect, but I've personally never seen it with the stimulant meds used for ADHD.
Not saying it's impossible (all sorts of unwanted reactions are at least theoretically possible), just that it's not something I've seen. That's not to say that you're wrong, or that I'm invalidating what you're saying, just that it's not something you can expect to happen in a normal course of events.
I'm not saying that meds are the only answer (for virtually any mental disorder), either, or necessarily the best answer, just that it can be a very valid treatment option. Every child is different.
I hope you don't think I'm arguing with you. I'm just pointing out that such an outcome would be considered an unusual, unexpected reaction or, the result of mid-managing the medication in some fairly major way.
Also keep in mind that some kids who are on ADHD medications are mis-diagnosed (it's an unfortunately common problem, particularly in some areas) or are being treated with medications that are unnecessary (i.e. When behavioral management would be a more appropriate course of action) or of too high a dosage (because not every doctor is an expert).
I have been drinking coffee every morning. I quit drinking it at all soon after I found out I was pregnant, because the coffee we made at home gave me a stomach ache. We've since gotten an espresso machine and I've been making myself a latte every morning. With three little kids that never sleep in, coffee is a must.
@runningisrad hahaha that's so cool! My DH has called me Khaleesi since we started watching and now that I'm pregnant he calls me Mother of Dragons. So jelly!
I agree most strongly with your comment @MojieJothat some kids are misdiagnosed. I think a lot of the zombiefied kids that I see have parents who want them to be zombies unfortunately. It's sick, but it happens. Some kids are easier to parent when they have a completely flat affect and are toned down to such a muted version of themselves that they are unrecognizable. For a child who has ADHD and an imbalance, the medications *SHOULD* correct that balance without pushing too far in the opposite direction. This takes an involved parent, caregiver/teachers and provider. This is why I'm so excited that @UnwritteN12's little guy has the parents he does. It's apparent just through the posts I've read that you two want nothing but the best for your little ones and I trust that treatment (with or without medications) is going to be a great addition to his normal life.
@MojieJo Not, not seeing it as an argument, just a discussion! I agree that what I'm describing is not a stimulant side effect, but not every ADD/ADHD med is a stimulant either. I can't remember what specific drug it is, but a close friend of mine switched her son off of the stimulants due to increased aggression and onto something that makes him definitely zoned out. It's not the "typical" ADD med response, but it is a possible one.
I also definitely agree there is an over-use of prescription to treat behavioral problems, especially in childhood. Many parents (although not the ones here!) find it easier to pop a pill into their kid than to learn how to help them. Sadly, I see it all the time in the school I'm at.
I've seen a fair number of parents who push for an ADHD diagnosis and medication when their child is just difficult for them to manage (or when they can't be bothered to deal with normal behaviors that are frustrating). Some doctors are all too willing to slap a label on a child and push pills down their throat. It's also the diagnosis du jour, so it can be unfortunately easy to get your child labeled incorrectly if you're so inclined and find the right (wrong) doctor.
There are even toddlers on ADHD meds out there because their parents insisted on a fix for behaviors that weren't necessarily pathological, just normal, albeit disruptive and frustrating, behavior for a child their age.
I agree that @unwritten12 has her son's best interests at heart and will do what's right for him, be it medication or behavioral interventions.
Can anybody recommend a good oversized glider? Something that can hold Mom, baby and DS? Thanks
Haha, at first glance I read this and thought it said "oversized stroller"... Sure would be nice if we could be strolled around with the kids, wouldn't it!? Lol
I just peed in our office bathroom, then a friend walked in, so I flushed, washed hands, etc. Then went to the main building's bathroom for my morning poop. Usually I'm ok with going in our office bathroom but she hopped right into the stall next to me. No thanks!
I totally do this! What can I say? I like to take my poops in peace!
Chicken has repulsed me this pregnancy. Except chick fil-a chicken. Apparently fried fast food chicken is delicious.
I was like that with DD. A simple, grilled chicken breast was about the worst possible thing I could make myself eat. (And this was when I ate grilled chicken probably 2-3 times per week pre-pregnancy.) But, for whatever reason, McDonald's chicken McNuggets were like heaven in my mouth. I'm happy my chicken aversion didn't return this pregnancy - it seriously limited dinner options!!
These chicken aversions crack me up. Here I am, a vegetarian for over 10 years and I keep thinking of how good chicken would be if I just gave in and had a little bit... after having zero interest for so long
