@Piperella - Yes, we're steering clear of questionable initials, nicknames, etc. I know if they try hard enough, bullies can find something to make fun of with any name, but I'm gonna try my hardest not to make it easy for them.
@Piperella Our last name starts with D, so this is something I thought/think about. For instance, my now married name monogram is B.A.D. ha! But my parents obviously didn't care about this rule because my maiden name initials were BJ and kids in school definitely took note of that ha.
So, yes.. we'll be preventing using a vowel as a middle initial so it won't spell a word. DS's initials are C.T.D.
For a girl we love the name Claire Helen-Marie. (Helen is for my grandmother, Marie for his mom's middle name) I told my mom and sister about this name and they both think Helen-Marie is too long of a middle name but i really don't care what they think. I told them "you both already had the chance to name your kids, now it's my turn!"
Other girl names we like are Bailey, Harper, Ellie (my name is Elizabeth so that's kind of a variation of it)
As for boy names we cannot agree on a single name! We really hope it's a girl haha if not this will be very hard. I like Lucas Kyle but he hates it.
@piperella - I honestly think that by the time kids would be old enough to know what FML means, it won't be popular anymore. I think there are truly two big things that need to be considered when naming a child
1.) Making sure the name you pick isn't also the name of someone that is famous (like a serial murderer for instance)
2.) Making sure the initials don't spell out somewhere weird like PEE or ASS. I would be less worried about LOL or SMH just because I don't think those will be relevant later on down the road.
If DD had been a boy we were going with Elliott Gallifrey, which is our top boy pick still.
Girls name, we loved Agatha Rose (which I totally realize is not a lot of people's style) but MIL threw such a tantrum about it when we mentioned it as a possibility last time--there were actual tears--that we decided not to use it. We've kind of regretted it since, although I still love Violet which is what we eventually settled on for DD. This time we either aren't telling, or else we're telling MIL to stick the drama llama out in the barn. We love Agatha, and we're using it.

I have a list going of about 100 names (boy + girl), and we're probably not going to choose until baby is born. We're team green, hopefully we can narrow the list to 10 or so for each sex. I'm one of those people that can't decide on a name until I see the baby and then I just *know*. If I had to narrow it down today:
Girl: Olivia, Isla, Charlotte, Lilah, Lilly, Emmeline (Emmie), Caroline, Violet, Chloe, Claire Middle name probably Caroline, depending on the flow of the first name.
Boy: Theodore (Teddy), Cameron (Cam), Everett, Landon, Ellis, William, Beau, Alexander, Noah, Flynn Middle name possibly James or David, depending on first name.
I seriously baby names. I could look at them every day, and probably do, haha.

@rebeccuhI was about to post something when I saw your list of names since this is called the super awesome honest giant baby names thread. Thank god those aren't serious. Looking at the baby names board, I really wouldn't be surprised. Some people go out of their way to be super special and unique these days. And as a former kindergarten teacher, I've seen some special names.
@TNlove1027 - I love the name Axyl, but roller derby name is Axl and a lot of people just call me that so my husband wouldn't go for it. It's fun and different!
@sidecarforbishes, Estelle is pretty and I've actually brought this up as an option to SO, but he didn't seem excited. Her nickname could be Elle... It also solves part of the naming problem, because SO wants the name to begin with an "E" in honor of his grandma. Problem solved! We'll see.
This is neither here nor there but I LOVE the name Sabine.....but then I'm not French, neither is SO, ha. Dunno if it would be appropriate or if it would seem like were trying too hard.
@rebeccuhHa, I took the 'honest' part as being able to tell someone if their names are terrible. I wish I could do this in real life and keep a straight face just to see what people say.

Loving all of these names! We've had our girl name picked out for years. She will be Amelia Rosalie. I liked the idea of naming her after a strong, adventurous female and Amelia Earhart was pretty badass. Also, my grandmother was Rosalie Amelia so she will be named for her as well. If it's a boy, he'll be John Watson but we'll call him Watson. John is my H's grandfather who raised him and Watson is my grandfathers middle name. We want to pay homage to both grandfathers but since John pretty common, Watson will be what we call him.
@AllyTheKid We love the name Addison! That's our first choice for a girl. We're thinking of using Rae as her middle name. If you don't mind me asking, what middle name did you pick for your daughter?
If it's a boy, he will be a III. That's pretty much nonnegotiable.
Her middle name is Dawn, I personally don't like that middle name, but it was passed down to her from exDH's deceased cousin Sabrina Dawn who he was really close to. So I couldn't in good conscience argue it. I was undecided on a middle name anyway. The joke where I come from is "these girls pick from 3 middle names, Nicole, Dawn, or Marie" and I have to sit there with my head down since my middle name is Marie haha
@annabenanna I like Sabine a lot as well, it's on my short list. I'd feel comfortable using it and we're not French. But, then, my DD's name is Carolina (pronounced CarolEEna, like it would be basically anywhere in the world outside of the US). It's a much more common name for Italians, Hispanic people, etc. and we are as Caucasian as Caucasian gets. However, we love it and think it's a really pretty name, so...who really cares.
All of this 'Stella' talk is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I used to LOVE it because I read the book Stella Luna as a child and thought it was beautiful, but then I met FI's ex-wife (Stella), who is an awful human being and used her first name as her stripping stage name and it ruined it for me =/
I wish I could wash that out of my brain because Stella used to be SO beautiful to me...
@AllyTheKid I love Stella Luna. Now I can't get the (very odd) image of a bat in stripper gear hanging off of a pole/using its wings as a sort of stripper robe out of my head. Thanks for that.
@AllyTheKid wow yeah I think the damage is done on that one. It is a pretty name on its own but I always think of A Streetcar Named Desire (and the Seinfeld takeoff).
@kmolleltz@CopperBoom86@mrscorker Chiming in because DH and I made a deal not to share our name, but my own name is one where my parents decided to call me by my middle name so I figured I'd weigh in from your future-grown-up-babies' perspective! It can be a hassle sometimes (like today, when I realized that for a news shoot I'm doing tomorrow at a school I need to be on a security list, so I had to make sure my colleague gave the school my LEGAL name and not my just middle + last, or every year on the 1st day of school when kids would get confused as the "Matthews" told the teacher "call me Matt" but little Emily was like "call me Katie, thanks!").
Overall, though, I'm attached to my slightly funky little name, and when I got married and changed my last name (and it would have been easy to just drop my first name as well, or reverse the order), I realized just how attached to it I am! It's never caused me any real problems, and if anything, I figure it makes it easier for me to spot spam messages and telemarketers who just call me by my first name.

I'm trying to find a way to honor my grandfather, who's name is Gerald. He's not going to be here much longer with us and won't be here when our newest arrives this fall. Any ideas on cute middle names, besides Geraldine?
A lady at work has a daughter named Gerrie. I assume it's to honor someone with a similar name, but I'm not sure.

I like it too. DH dad is Angel Arturo ( he goes by art) and DH is Adrian Arturo. I wanted Santiago Arturo Pardo but DH said it's way too spanish sounding for a kid who will only be a 1/4 Cuban. Lol!!! Whatever. I think it's a great name. Santiago is also a family name. Nick name: Santi.
We tried to go with three syllable names because both DH and I have them. Half the time I flip the first letter of my girls names and call them Matalie/Nadaleine. Lol. Their nicknames are Natty and Maddy so not much better there, haha.
