Trying to Get Pregnant

UO Thursday

I don't see that this has been started yet, so let's hear them!

DD born PPROM preemie at 36 weeks on 10/1/17 after over a year TI,
then 3 failed IUIs, and finally a successful IVF FET.

Due with #2 5/2/19 after HIO once in my FW,
because apparently that's how life works now. Team Blue!

Re: UO Thursday

  • Never thought I'd say this, but after seeing how good Julianne Hough's hair looks with a perm, I kind of want one.

Also, I LOVE Disney but am not so much a fan of Mickey.  I feel like a traitor.

I don't like using tampons. They freak me out.
OMG, I was actually coming here to post almost this same thing, I thought it would for sure be unpopular. But I was going to say that only this month have I decided that I hate tampons and don't want to use them. I used to swear by them, and I have no idea why, but when AF started I was just like, I do NOT feel like wearing tampons. So I've been using pads, which I always thought were so gross. I mean they are still kind of gross, the whole thing is gross, haha. But I don't know, I just feel like I have more control this way or something.

Two things, number one: What is UO? I'm gathering unpopular opinion based on the posts? New here...
Also, I used to be a die hard fan of tampons because pads feel like wearing a dirty diaper. But I've grown to hate them. have you tried cups? I swear by them. They are INCREDIBLE. I will never wear something else. Ever.

Agreed.  On all counts.  Idk, I feel so constricted with tampons, and I'm always terrified of them getting lost inside me.  I know that's very unlikely, but when I'm wearing one, (swimming or something) I'm just a basket case.

LOL. My bff has never used them either, and complains about pads all the time. I'm always telling her how crazy she is! I always use tampons, except to sleep. Though with the Provera period I just had, it was so heavy I used them overnight. And I did get sick of them.
  • @mrsdee15 @Lecool 100% with you guys on this. Not a Mickey fan. Much more of a Disney Princess kind of person.

thj101 I only use tampons if I can help it. Like @MommyForTheFirstTime said, pads make me feel like I'm wearing a dirty diaper. I have to wear a freakin panty liner for two weeks every cycle because of the awesome **TMI** progesterone suppository leakage. Bleh. I hate it. I feel gross 24/7.

@jenmlangtake2  Yes and Yes!! I don't get it either. I was just coming here to say that I do not like wearing heels and I don't know how girls wear them everyday. This sounds way better!

Guys. Seriously CUPS. You'll never be the same, I swear. TMI-They make disposable ones and reusable ones. Amazing. No strings, no leakage, no dirty diapers, no tss, you can wear them overnight, last for 12 hours at a time, so you almost forget about them, most self-empty anytime you engage your sphincter (when urinating or having a bm). Come one. What is not to love?

  • I also don't love tampons. After DD was born I couldn't wear one without a ton of pain for like a year. And still today, it is hard to get it right without hurting. And I ALWAYS leak with tampons. So, I tried a cup about a year ago to see of that would be better. I hated it. I got blood everywhere putting it in and out and thought it was super gross, and also leaked when I walked around. It was probably just not a good one or something, whatever. So, I wear pads 90% of the time. I honestly don't mind them. Infinity pads are my jam! Also... panty liners... CAN NOT wear them. They bunch up into a little wad in about 5 minutes every time I have ever tried. I don't understand how people get them to work. Do I just move my body in cray ways or something?

I can't think of my own creative UO just yet. Let me get back to you.

I'm with you on the panty liners. I've been so lucky as to have a huge butt on a small frame so I only wear thongs. Everything else immediately bunches and is so uncomfortable. I bought the thong panty liners last month and they help but the coverage level is next to nothing. They'd be good if you like them for regular daily use just to stay fresh.

  • @mrsstuessy The cups are definitely one of those thing that you get what you pay for. I've found the cheap disposable ones are way more messy than the reusable ones. But I've never spilled or leaked with the expensive ones. I second you on the pantyline thing. I was always thinking that I must just walk funny. Glad to hear it isn't just me.

  • @mrsstuessy this may be wasteful of me, but I just don't waste my time with pantyliners. If I'm spotting I just use a pad. I live in a very small house, and don't really have a lot of extra room for a variety of feminine products lol. So no I don't think you're wrong, I think they're gimmicky.

  • I have too many to count! So I'll jump on board with the "tampons are gross" train, although probably for different reasons than some of you. They're so laden with chemicals and bleach and they dry me out, yuck. Not to mention the rate at which they pile up in landfills is terrible. I'm with @MommyForTheFirstTime. Check out menstrual cups, they're the greatest thing ever!! Seriously I've been using the Lunette for probably close to a year now, and I can't believe it took me so long to make the switch (let alone even discover them). I will never stick a bleached piece of cotton up there again. I only have to think about my period like 4 times a cycle when I change my cup, and there's never been a case of toxic shock linked to cups. Give it a chance ladies!!

I was grossed out at first too, but a friend bought them for me and practically forced me to try it. To each their own. Ha, I'm just so passionate about them. It's really nice if you're going somewhere where you will be super busy or won't have access to a bathroom to check all the time ie, camping or amusement parks.

@slradske0626 I am so glad I am not the only one! I loved that they are better for the environment and not ridden with chemicals. Plus they don't hurt if you pull it out dry because with tampons. OMG, ow.

*runs off to google these Cups that you speak of...* They do sound very intriguing. I just don't like having something stuck up there for hours.
Agreed. The concept grosses me out.
    @nwegman7878@PepperAT
I was grossed out at first too, but a friend bought them for me and practically forced me to try it. To each their own. Ha, I'm just so passionate about them. It's really nice if you're going somewhere where you will be super busy or won't have access to a bathroom to check all the time ie, camping or amusement parks.

**TMI Warning** I have a ridiculously heavy flow my first day or two. I'm usually cycling through Super+ tampons every 2-4 hours. I couldn't imagine trying to stick my fingers anywhere near there to insert a cup. I'd look like I was coming out of a war zone. Plus, needing to potentially clean it at work/in public places totally weirds me out. Also what do you do while you're cleaning it? Wad up the toilet paper and hold your legs together until you can reinsert it? I'm sure its a great product for a lot of women but I don't think it'd work well for me.

@mrsstuessy this may be wasteful of me, but I just don't waste my time with pantyliners. If I'm spotting I just use a pad. I live in a very small house, and don't really have a lot of extra room for a variety of feminine products lol. So no I don't think you're wrong, I think they're gimmicky.
Yep, I always just use a pad for spotting. I'm also probably wasteful, but oh well, my vagina, my choice. ;)

@mrsstuessy The cups are definitely one of those thing that you get what you pay for. I've found the cheap disposable ones are way more messy than the reusable ones. But I've never spilled or leaked with the expensive ones. I second you on the pantyline thing. I was always thinking that I must just walk funny. Glad to hear it isn't just me.
The one I tried was a Lunette. It was from a local maternity store. I might have just not had the right size or something, or maybe i am just incredibly clumsy. I'm sure it was just my user error, but at the time it just made me so frustrated I threw it away and pouted. haha!

Actually, @nwegman7878 I don't clean it at work or empty it. The ones that don't have a second chamber are sort of shaped like an inverted short condom. So when you engage your sphincter, it kind of bends the round nuva-ring like top and lets the blood flow out. So you look into the toilet and there is a bloody mess, but you never touch anything. As for at home, I clean mine before bed and I just pull it out, throw on a panty liner rinse it really well and put it back in. Then at the end of the cycle you boil it. That's the worst part. As far as removing, it depends which one ye get. some have a little "handle" that you tug on so you don't touch blood. Others just have a lip that you sort of grab. I never really get messy. Maybe once or twice while I got the hang of it. It's just one of those things you have to do yourself so you can see how it works with your body mechanics.

  • @Sparty18 That is an absolutely amazing idea. I love it.

@mrsdee15 I had no idea she got a perm. I just Googled it and I'm sitting here like "huh... she made her hair do that weird not-a-curl-but-not-straight-either thing ON PURPOSE?! WHY?!" I mean don't get me wrong it looks amazing on her. But I think that has something to do with how incredibly gorgeous she is and she'd probably make anything look amazing. It just seems weird to me because my hair is naturally somewhere between a wave and a curl. And it has always driven me crazy.

@mommyforthefirsttime ; @slradske0626 I'm also a menstrual cup wearer. I'd been using softcups but apparently they're just a little too large for me or something and were causing really bad cramping after insertion and after removal. I think I read somewhere that the cramping may be because the cup is too large/too rigid or something. So I switched to Lunette. No cramping with Lunette but I'm epically bad at inserting it. It takes so many tried and my poor vag feels brutalized by the time I finally get it in right. BUT once it is in it's amazing.

I hate tampons and will never go back to tampons. I don't really dislike pads I just always seem to find a way to leak using pads. Like, my periods are super light. I only bleed around 10ml cumulatively. And yet, I'll put a pad in before bed and then wake up in the morning to realize my underwear was ruined by blood that somehow leaked. No idea how that works as the pad will be nearly completely dry. Except, ya know, for whatever little spot lead to the leak.

  • Ok, so after reading this previous posts apparently this is a UO lol.

also... Probably not needed at this point, but here's a blanket TMI warning.

I prefer tampons lol. Pads are no go, that's just weird to me.  I've never been concerned about a tampon getting "lost" (lol come on ladies, you of all people know the geometry of that area, there's no where to go!)

I also have super light periods.... So I only use the light ones.  The regular ones I use every once in a blue moon and can see how that would be uncomfortable (esp if it was a super or something).  I've noticed the regulars being a little more uncomfortable though not quite painful to remove.  I've never tried cups... But I feel like I don't bleed enough for it.... It would be more of a plug than a cup lol (ew).

I am slightly concerned about when I start letrozole next cycle.... I may have to reevaluate my methods.

  • @furbabymom2007 **Also TMI** I'm not sure about letrozole, but the progesterone last month made AF terrible, as in I was passing quarter sized clots because my lining was so thick. With the clomid and progesterone this month, if I'm not KU, this is going to be the period from hell.

This. After DS was born my uterus slightly prolapsed & never improved. Having pain with tampon use is no longer the issue, it's just hard to keep a tampon in when your cervix & uterus are now occupying that space.
    So team pad-life over here.

Wow, that sounds super crappy. If you don't mind my asking, are you still able to have sex like normal? Sorry, if that was rude please ignore. The internet makes me too bold sometimes.

  • So, big ***TMI Warning*** all through this post probably.

So, I've actually never used a tampon, my mom had TSS as a teen and never stocked them in our house. Currently I use a mix of Divacup on some days and Always pads on others, but I've been looking into Thinx underwear and cloth pads recently. The idea intrigues me because I've always had weird spills overnight that aren't really bleed-through, more like the blood just rolls down off the pad if I lay on my stomach or back? So the idea that the whole underwear is the pad sound nice. Plus, it's washable and reusable. My problem is that I'm hoping not to have periods in the near future ;)  and so it might be a waste to get them now and then not use them for 9 months or lose them when we move.

Second UO is that people should be able to wear their hair in whatever style they like without people assaulting them over it. If you don't know what I'm talking about just google or look up the news about San Francisco State University and how a guy was assaulted over his dreadlocks.

@PaukMeKiande Just Googled Thinx. Where has this idea been my entire adult/period life?!

It makes me think of pads as Stone Age contraptions! Which I'm sure is how the lovers of cups feel about tampons and pads lol. I also can't get into cups. Haven't tried them myself but I can only imagine discomfort.

It also makes me think of how women used to have to wear belts to hold up their pads until the sticky adhesive was finally put onto pads. Our poor moms/grandmas!

Ever.
@sldp123, @thj101, and @MommyForTheFirstTime - This is definitely rings true, not unpopular at all! I have HATED using tampons in the last few months. I have been thinking about using a cup, but I wasn't sure if it would work for me. What cup do you use, @MommyForTheFirstTime?

@NamelessAria @MommyForTheFirstTime @PaukMeKiande Yay I never find other cup users! The Lunette is the only one I've ever used, and I don't get cramps so I assume it's the right size! I understand you on the insertion problems though. It takes a couple tries sometimes, but I've gotten a lot better. I have a really high cervix so removal gives me more trouble from time to time. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who loves my cup!

@MamaMunn I just get really excited to talk about them since so many people have never even heard of them, and those who have generally think they're disgusting and/or uncomfortable. There's almost no advertisement for them at all. I'm really passionate about the environment and overall health, so I take any chance I can spread the love!
  • *** blanket TMI

@BerkeBaby When I first started I wore the cups from walmart. I think they are Softcups. Those are pretty cheap and disposable. They helped me get used to the feeling and learning how to insert and remove. I also keep one of these in my purse, just in case I start when I am away from home. I have a lunette, which is pretty good and very popular. It's the most comfortable, probably. I also have a Femmy. This was a recent buy. This is kind of a two chamber, so it doesn't spill over if you engage your sphincter. I have terrible allergies, so I found that sometimes if my cup was too full and I sneezed I'd leak a tad. That's not the case with this on. It also has a finger loop for getting it out which is lovely. It took some getting used to because it is a tad large, but it's not bad. I also mistakenly ordered a large size than necessary, so it's my fault, not the cup. It hols a larger amount, which is great because my first two days are extremely heavy. The leak proof ability is lovely.

My doc asked what I used (still don't know why he needed to know that) and I told him. He said that since I use them already, he recommended putting one in after sex to hold DHs swimmers in. He has low counts and low volume, so we need as much as possible to stay in and I have a tendency to squish it all out on accident, so we never get enough in there. So now after BDing I put a cup in and stay laying down. I use the disposables for this since I have found them smaller and don't keep them in a separate chamber like some cups.

@slradske0626 I never know anyone either, except the one friend that introduced me to them! I can't believe they aren't more popular. I love them.
