Re: Twin Mom - Weekly Update

  • How many weeks are you? 17 yesterday! I've definitely popped!

What are your symptoms like this week? Ugh heartburn/acid reflux. Does anyone know if Prilosec is safe to take? I've dealt with acid reflux most of my life and that's always worked the best for me. Using Zantec 150 and Gaviscon now.

Anything strange going on? I've become more fatigued again! At least I'm not nauseous.

Did you have your anatomy scan yet? How did it go? We were able to do an early one last week and it was good. We actually didn't even know we were getting it, thought it was just a check up u/s, cause we have one scheduled for April 11. They were able to see almost everything. Need to double check the nose/lips and some valve/output in the heart. My OB said they are doing great though. So happy to hear!

Questions? I believe most of you are having fraternal twins, anyone else identical? I am not typically a worrier and I believe that's part of the reason this pregnancy has been fairly easy, however I was reading that I'm higher risk for TTFS and its kind of freaks me out. Has anyone else's doc mentioned this?

GTKY: Looking forward to anything fun or exciting? My birthday is next Friday and I start my new job the Monday after!

I couldn't agree more!!! Why do you have to be three hours into Wisconsin?! We could go do super pregnant lady stuff... Mall walking, feet soaking, sitting in front of the air conditioner... Ha!  :p
  • How many weeks are you?  18w4d

What are your symptoms like this week? Nausea came back full force in the middle of the night last night.  I woke up around 2:30 to pee and when I went back to bed, as soon as I layed down I felt like I was going to throw up.  Went downstairs to eat a few almonds hoping a small snack would help. It didn't.  The only thing that took the nausea away was sitting up or standing up...ending up sleeping sitting up on the couch : /

Anything strange going on??  Random nausea reappearing even though I feel like I'm eating well enough

Did you have your anatomy scan yet? How did it go?  Ours is scheduled for a week from today!  Can't wait!!

Questions?  Any registry recommendations?  Those that have had a scan, how long did yours take?

GTKY: Looking forward to anything fun or exciting?  A restful weekend after a busy work week!

It almost sounds like acid reflux. Mine gets to the point where it just feels like I need to throw up and I can't lay down...

My scan took about 1 hr 45 minutes. We were able to ask a lot of questions.

  • I'm 20 weeks pregnant with identical mono di twins. I'm crazy paranoid about ttts. I joined a ttts support group on fb. I think it was informative but also very sad.

My symptoms are the same- nausea, vomiting pretty much all day.

I cant wait for anatomy scan- this Tuesday!

I joined the mono/di twins group on Facebook is that the one you are talking about? There have been a lot successful stories posted on there. My doctor hasn't said a word about it and I'm 17.5 weeks along and haven't seen any specialists. Good luck with your scan!!

  • I joined that group, but also the ttts hopes and connections group. I am seeing a maternal fetal medicine group. I think getting an ultrasound every other week is what's recommended to help with early detection of ttts. I wanted weekly ultrasounds but my Drs refused:(
  • @Isabelfuentes2015 my doctor still has me on monthly checks I think until I get further along. My next ultrasound is April 11. She hasn't said anything about my seeing a specialist. I'll be 20 weeks then. I know we are higher risk with mono/di but if your doctor isn't that concerned, maybe just try to take a deep breath and relax! I know easier said than done! I'm also trying to stay off google and the TTts group only because I don't want to freak myself out. It only happens in like 20% of twin pregnancies (I think) so as long as I feel good im hoping the babies are doing good. I know there are some symptoms for us to look for as well so I think if you see any of those that would be cause for concern! When is your next appt?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Isabelfuentes2015Also after I posted this I did check some more and you are right, we probably should be monitored more closely. Not necessarily every week, but every 2-3 weeks. I will probably call my OB tomorrow to discuss since I have a while before my next appt. I just noticed you said yours is Tuesday so good luck tomorrow! :)

  • @Isabelfuentes2015 how was your scan??
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • We were at the Drs office all day. Started with fetal echo. It took about an hour and a half and everything looked good! Then we went in for anatomy scan and it took about three hours!!! The tech had trouble with some of the measurements because of baby a's position but did get everything at the end. Everything looks good for both babies but the amniotic fluid levels were a bit off but still in the normal range. The fluid levels are the main indicators if ttts. Below 2cm and above 8cm is considered stage 1 ttts. We were at a 3.5 and 7.6 which definitely freaked me out. Our last appointment of the day was with the MFM dr who agreed to switch me to weekly monitoring due to the discrepancy in fluid levels. I go back on Monday morning. I came home to google more about ttts and to try and figure out what our plan would be if we get bad news on Monday. If laser surgery is recommended we would have to fly to either the east coast or west coast to find a surgeon who specializes in this type of surgery. The fact that I have an anterior placenta makes it trickier to find someone. My initial freak out has subsided and now instead of planning for the worst I'm trying to remain distracted. Monday needs to hurry up and get here!!!
@tmk0325 I'm glad you are switching from once a month to every 2-3 weeks. Sorry if my paranoia freaked you out!!! I know ttts is uncommon and everything will probably be fine.  I have been on modified bed rest because of my hg and I think the boredom makes me extra paranoid. Having hours and hours to google will make anyone crazy:)
@rikopy thanks for the well wishes:)
  • @Isabelfuentes2015 try not to be worried, it sounds like for the most part they are monitoring you and will have it under control? I'm not sure where you are located, but there has got to be someone nearby you that does the procedure I would hope. I also have an anterior placenta, sounds like we are having similar pregnancies! After we went back and forth I did call my Ob and she wrote me a referral for the fetal specialist, however they are so short staffed in our area they literally had to squeeze me in at the end of a day a week and a half until now. So we meet with her on April 4. I'm sure time will drag until then! You might want to ask the question in the mono/di or TTTS Facebook group about TTTS with an anterior placenta and where people had the procedure done. I'm sure there are others out there.

    How is everyone else doing this week?? @ShanTeach @megframe16 @rikopy @ang2fetl @Isabelfuentes2015 @n&a2013 -- sorry if I missed anyone!

    and Happy Birthday @megframe16 ! :)

Happy birthday @tmk0325 !!!! I hope you get spoiled today!!!
  • We had our anatomy scan this morning and got the surprise of our lives. We were convinced both babies were girls, but both babies are boys!  Technician and Doctor both said everything looked good.  Baby A was very calm and camera shy.  The technician had a tough time getting a picture of his face.  Baby B was a show-off and very active, flipping all around.  Our scan took about an hour.  I got very nauseous and light headed at one point. The technician said that was because of the pressure on a vein (can't remember the name of it).  Once she had me flip on my side, I felt much better.  Halfway through my pregnancy already...hard to believe!
  • @ShanTeach congrats!! :) and I think that's why we aren't supposed to sleep on our backs anymore either!

  • Had a good week! I didn't "pop" until around 18 weeks and now I feel like my belly hasn't stopped growing (20w4d now). We had our anatomy scans last week and doc said everything looked good!

I expected the anatomy scan to take a long time but it was only ~40 mins total. Should I be concerned about the thoroughness? I feel like my U/S tech is always rushed...

  • Everything good here so far! We haven't had our scan yet, that'll be at 21 weeks for me! Currently 18+4! I feel the babies move consistently now! I love it! My hubby even felt a little kick the other night which was awesome!
I still have a lot of pressure down there which to me is weird because I'll just be standing normal and have to reposition myself so it doesn't feel like I'm about to birth a baby! Anyone else have this?
We found out we are having two girls!
Does anyone else feel like their doctor would prefer a csection delivery? Mine said we would schedule one around 38 weeks if I wanted to.. He just keeps bringing that option up.. Of course I'd love to vaginally deliver as that's all I know but whatever is the safest for the girls!

    HAPPY EASTER!!!!
  • @rikopy  I think as long as they were able to get everything they needed, it's fine. My tech said to plan for about 45 minutes for our next one if they cooperate!

@megframe16 I only really feel pressure when I pee.  I feel like they are like right on top of my bladder sometimes!  And my doc told me that I could go either way, but if both of the babies are not facing down it will be a c-section.  She said I can always opt for a C-section too if I want.  I said whatever is best for the babies when the time comes.  Quite honestly, the whole ripping thing scares the crap out of me.  FTM here. lol

@tmk0325  I have two boys already! 2 and 3 and I did not rip with either of them! I took evening primpose oil though and I swear by that! Ripping scares me less than have my stomach sliced open!! Lol I'm just terrible with needles and blood! But yes, I will do whatever it best for the babies! I feel like my crotch is detaching from my body! When I use the bathroom but also when just standing! Not sure what is going on!
  • @tmk0325 @megframe16  happy birthday to you!!!
i just started feeling pelvic pressure a couple of days ago. It's not constant and hasn't been too bad.
I am also a first time mom and keep thinking I feel the babies but am not really sure that I have yet. I think the anterior placenta makes it so you don't feel them until later especially if you don't know what to look for. I hAve occasionally felt a tingling sensation that I'm guessing is like the butterflies or bubbles I've heard people describe. I haven't felt kicks. My doctor said probably in the next couple of weeks.
I live in Chicago. I was very surprised to find out that northwestern doesn't perform the laser ablation surgery. I guess not that many places do it. Hopefully we will not need it!

    Happy easter weekend!

  • I'm finally feeling the babies move (I'm 21w2d)! I think it's because they're big enough now for me to tell the difference between them vs. general stomach movements/gas. Pretty awesome feeling!

  • How many weeks are you?
    19 weeks 3 days

What are your symptoms like this week? Acid reflux has flared up with that annoying bubble in my throat, but luckily Zegrid is doing the trick when it's really bad.

    Anything strange going on??
Has anyone noticed hunger going away? Still having to make myself eat

Did you have your anatomy scan yet? How did it go?
Had one at 16 weeks and everything looked great, they plan on doing another next week. The tech also turned on the 3D and our wild one was kicking the other one. Ah it begins! ....brothers. They also noticed that A's placenta is creeping pretty close to my cervix so they are going to keep an eye on it.

    Questions?
i started feeling the wild one kick, who happens to be in the lower front, it makes me so anxious to not feel B on the top in the back. I'm guessing this is normal?

GTKY: Looking forward to anything fun or exciting? My girls started planning a baby shower :) they set the date for 33 weeks, nervous about bed rest and hope I can make my boys party!
  • This is completely random, but as I'm finishing up my registry, what kind of diaper bag are you all planning on using? There are so many options! I feel like I almost need one that I can use messenger style since I'll most likely need both hands.. But every thing I see doesn't seem like it'll be big enough.

  • I think I'm going with the skip hop back pack style. Hands free and cool enough DH will wear it!
  • How is it going this week?

Any baby news? Good or bad?

    New symptoms?

    Questions?

  • How is it going this week? On my second week of the new job and I'm really glad I'm not working full time. Im tired and my back hurts!

Any baby news? Good or bad? Had another u/s on Monday and both babies are growing and weighing about the same. No indicators of TTTS so that's great. We go back in two weeks for another check.

New symptoms? Shortness of breath has been new this week. I'm also debating a maternity belt since my lower back is bothering me.

Questions? Anyone else using a belt?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @tmk0325   I registered for an Eddie Bauer diaper bag from Target.  It seems like a decent size and has an accessible pocket for wipes and a portable changing pad (although a bit flimsy).  I think there were 15 pockets inside and outside.

  • I had my monthly appointment this morning.  Baby boys' heartbeats were great at 143 and 148.  I'm 21 weeks 4 days and measuring 23 weeks.  I've been feeling more tired again lately,  but other than that, I've been pretty good.  Minor back pain or leg pain here or there, but stretching helps.  I've been referred to a maternal fetal doctor for my next sonogram...no problems but my OB says I'll end up there any way so I might as well go for a consult to get to know them.
  • @ShanTeach
I'm also with the MFM doc on an every two week appointment from now until June.  I also meet with my regular OB once a month.  Thankfully I haven't had any issues so far. :)

  • How is it going this week?
Going good, got rear-ended today :( so the Dr has me on any pre term labor symptom watch because of my blood type (RH-), hopefully everything is good for he next 48 hours. The boys were jumping beans during the sono so they seem fine.

Any baby news? Good or bad?
They are 13oz and 15oz at 20w5d, which is an 11% difference. If they get to a 25% difference Dr will send to the specialist.

    New symptoms?
the left side of my belly feels like a brick is in it, turns out both of Thier feet are over on that side and they kick like crazy!

    Questions
    anyone else getting crazy lightheadedness??
  • @ang2fetl Do you have fraternal boys?  Glad you are both ok!  And I've been lightheaded since I found out I was pregnant. It seems to have gotten somewhat better as I've progressed though.  I don't feel like I'm going to pass out as often.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • They aren't sure if they are Fraternal or Identical, there's a chance that the egg could have split in day 3 of gestation to make them identical, but with their own sacs. We will have to get s DNA test when they are born....which of course H is all about
  • Second time around I found a back pack for a diaper bag. SO much better! They even design some for diaper bags with like wipe holders on the side. Hands free and no stress on just one shoulder. I'll be doing he same this time around! @tmk0325
  • I have nothing to update this week! Our anatomy scan is next week and we haven't seen the doc in 3 weeks.
One thing is babies are moving like crazy and now can be felt from the outside! So that's exciting!
My boobs leak a little also.. Super fun..! Ha!

I did actually go ahead and register for an Eddie Bauer backpack and I'm also going to get a Vera Bradley bag. That might be a treat myself or my mom will want to buy it. A couple of my twin mom friends said they have two, so then I was like ok. :)

  • Are any of you on additional supplements/vitamins per Doctor's request?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @rikopy yes! My Dr started me on calcium/magnesium/zinc 2x a day from first trimester, then added in Iron and Folate in second and Omega 3 in third although I already take those. All in addition to my prenatal. It's quite a cocktail!
