Re: Twin Mom - Weekly Update

  • I am not on any additional vitamins or supplements, however I have been using a nutritional shake a few times a week that has a lot of extras in it that she approved.

  • I haven't been put on any additional vitamins, but I talked to 2 friends of mine who have/are having twins, and their Docs put them on additional vitamins back in the first trimester.  I wasn't sure if I should be concerned that I wasn't ever told to do the same.

  • My doctor hasn't mentioned me taking anything extra, and I specifically asked at my very first appointment.  They just told me to make sure I eat a balanced diet and get enough iron and protein.  After reading everyone's comment though, I'm wondering if I should ask again!
  • My SILs got me a book called Twins, Triplets or Quads by Dr Barbara Luke and the group of doctors have a huge success rate of healthier multiples going full term and going home with Thier parents. They highly recommend extra vitamins similar to the ones I've been directed to take. It doesn't hurt to ask!
  • I also asked this question in the beginning and my Dr told me my prenatal was enough, which surprised me.

  • I have that book too @ang2fetl . They also recommend gaining 25lbs by 20 weeks to have a healthy baby. I tried and could only gain 12 lbs in the first 20 weeks!

I agree their expected weight gain was more than I could do, eating two breakfast sandwiches every day seems excessive and uncomfortable! luckily my Dr said she's happy with my weight gain so far.
They also recommended the calc/mag/zinc supplement like 2 pills 3x a day. I couldn't do it, it made me naseous. I figure adding as mush as possible is better than not!
  • @tmk0325 and @ang2fetl Overall, have y'all found the book helpful? If so, I might need to check this one out!

  • @rikopy it was ok. A good majority of it was this nutritional plan that they recommend. I didn't read it until the second trimester so it was a bit late.

  • 25 pounds in 20 weeks?!  Wowsa!   I think I'm eating a lot now and am only up 12 lbs. at 22 weeks!
  • @rikopy Id have to say the first half was good, put a little fear into me about how delicate multiples are compared to singletons, but good awareness! It also helped me to ask better questions and gage if my current Dr was a good choice or if I should seek out a multiple specialist.
  • I would agree with that @ang2fetl
