  • @anna.oskar I bombed the short glucose test, and while the long one was horrible, I passed that one. Don't freak out yet!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? NT scan on 4/7. They pushed out my Dr appt to be the same day. I appreciate the convenience but am so anxious for some update with good news.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I'm surrounded by pregnant people! It makes it hard to keep quiet about our news and is really making me worry how I'll be able to cope if we have another mmc. So, hoping this is our time! I feel like I've had more symptoms this time but who knows! Lol

    4. GTKY: What's your favorite flower? Lilacs! They made for a beautiful and fragrant wedding. Love snapdragons too, ever since I was young.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I am so tired of throwing up and feeling so miserable.  I don't know how much longer I can take it.  :(    On a good note, I am starting to feel a little more connected to the baby.  I was really worried because up until a couple days ago I felt very disconnected and have really lacked emotion about the pregnancy.  I think it is because I was trying to protect myself after experiencing a loss.

  • @anna.oskar FX for you!

Yay for all of the ladies with good scans/appointments!

@simcal18 Thanks! I hope it starts to pick up in speed soon, because these last two days have been brutal. My sister's bridal shower is this weekend and out of 72 people invited, only 25 can make it. This is making my mom upset, which is making me upset/stressed. There is Zika in Aruba where her wedding is and so my husband wants to cancel the trip, but I'm holding out hope for new research or something to change. I just can't wait to get to Saturday night. When it rains, it pours, huh?

  • Well, the afterglow from the good ultrasound Saturday is officially gone.  I called the OB yesterday to schedule my NT scan and got a message today about that, plus "oh by the way your TSH level is a bit elevated and we want you to see an endocrinologist."  WTF?????????  These test results are two weeks old.  They are the exact test results that I was asking @mrszoess about last week (about the 2.99 vs. 2.5).  If I as a layperson saw that something was potentially off about them when I read them two weeks ago, why am I only getting a call about them now, and why am I only getting a call because I called THEM to schedule an NT scan?

So now I'm super pissed at my OB's office for sitting on this, and I'm super pissed at myself for not calling them back the minute I saw that the test result looked potentially funny.  And healthy thyroid function is so important for fetal neural development, so I'm worried my stupid thyroid is either going to cause me to miscarry or has been causing my baby brain damage for the past two weeks while I and my OB's office have just sat on this, and I'm just really, really upset.

  • @simcal18 - I have hypothyroid as well. I've been on meds for a couple years. Your levels aren't THAT off, and probably are still close to the normal range, so I don't think it will cause any damage. It's just good to get it taken care of. I know how stressful it is.

I'd go with no news is good news. I'm sure they would've called by now if they found anything that needed attention. My blood work came back low in B12 and they called the same day to tell me so I could start supplementing right away.

@MRSCORKER I would probably call, at least just to check on it and get updated on the results. If something is off its good to know sooner to find out the best course of action, and if not then one more thing to add to the good news pile!

edit: unless of course if they told you when to expect to review results or if they'd only call with concerns?
  • @simcal18 Sorry that happened. My OB's office can be extremely frustrating sometimes. I especially hate that i have to pick from an automated menu to talk to someone and usually get a machine to leave a message.

@mrscorker I would call, even if it's just to ease your mind. I called my doctor's so often in the beginning that they probably recognized my voice before I got to my name.

@MRSCORKER I would call if only for peace of mind.  Obviously my experience has no bearing on yours, but I made the assumption that everything was fine with my test results when clearly it wasn't, and now I'm kicking myself that we've lost two weeks for potential treatment.  Odds are that everything is just fine, but you'll feel better knowing that for sure.

  • Thanks guys.  I'm hoping since my levels aren't that off things will likely be fine and we'll just do a small dose of medication to get my numbers within the "recommended" range.  It's just super stressful.  And on top of things my sinuses are making me feel like absolute total crap and work is super busy and overwhelming, so this has not been my best day.  Hoping I will feel better tomorrow and that it will be a better day.

  • @simcal18 I don't have any useful advice but I'm so sorry you're going through this stress, and I'll keep you in my prayers! I do hope you are able to use this as an opportunity to push your OB team into more proactive communication.

@MRSCORKER I'm definitely with those who call. My dr's office posts normal results online to their patient portal and calls if there are any issues or confusing things to discuss, but I still call when I get the normal results so they can walk me through and I don't have to turn to Dr. Google, so I would apply the same logic here. Honestly, as I've shared before, maybe I should be more concerned that they think I'm a drama queen, but I am just polite when I call and make it clear I'm not second guessing them, I'm just looking for more info (or sometimes when results haven't posted, just looking for an update) and they are so anti-Dr. Google that they're always like "yes, call us, that's what we're here for!" and very supportive. <3

Better late than never! It has been a crazy week...

    1. How far along are you?
12 weeks, 4 days... so surreal still!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?
I have another appointment Monday and it has been 3 weeks since my last. I am not really sure what to expect at this one. I know I am not scheduled for an ultrasound so maybe they will break out a doppler for the first time?

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
This week is kicking my butt. Work has been super busy and I have been really dragging trying to keep up. My headaches have been more frequent lately, too :frowning:

    4. GTKY: What's your favorite flower?
I really like snapdragons. Being able to open and close them just makes me so happy! What can I say, I am easily amused. Also, tulips are beautiful. My DH just bought me some fresh ones last week as a random gift

  • I know there was some discussion about prenatal classes on another thread...there is a preparation for childbirth class offered at the hospital where I will deliver. It says to take it around the 7th month allowing for 2-4 weeks between the end of the course and your EDD. There's also a breastfeeding session that I'm interested in and a preparation for med-free birth workshop that I might want to check out before I decide on a birth plan. I kinda want to get all the info out there before I decide how I want to try to give birth. My question is, when do you think is a good time to sign up for these? I don't want the september session to fill up but I'm also hesitant to book too soon because my PGAL brain is telling me it would be a jinx. What do you ladies think?

  • @MRSCORKER - for what it's worth, DH and I took a childbirth class right around 28 weeks last pregnancy and we were the earliest BY FAR. Everyone else was due to give birth within a month. I do wish we had waited a little longer because by the time I went into labor, all the skills we learned in class seemed like a distant memory!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? 2nd trimester and not being tired all the time.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Over this past weekend at a family gathering my mother-in-law and sister-in-law insisted on rubbing my stomach. This was a problem with kiddo #1 as well. I don't like people outside of my husband and medical professionals touching me in general (I know that makes me sound like a B, but it's just the way I am) and at 9 weeks, there's nothing to feel there anyway. I'm terrified of this!  I really like my personal space and the only people I'm comfortable being in it is my H and my niece (now 13 but I practically raised her).  SO uncomfortable for you!  Also, I'm pretty sure if a random stranger tried to touch my belly (happened to my sister ALL the time) I might slap them.

  • @mrscorker @kmalls I mentioned this on the weekly randoms thread and know there's been some chatter elsewhere too... I don't really think there's any time that's "too soon" per se, depending on what the class is covering, but for something like Bradley method in particular when it's a 12-week course, I'm finding it hard to juggle the 'perfect' timing.

I did find one local Bradley method teacher who lets you sit in on later courses for free as a refresher closer to your due date if you're not able to sync up the whole class schedule at the right time, so I think I might try to squeeze us in under the wire with her class that starts Sunday (!!) since after this 12-week session, she won't start another until September!

Do you think it's worth a dedicated thread for all these prep class questions at this point, or too early? I don't want to cause trouble with unnecessary threads! :)
  • I went a little bonkers and signed up for like every class imaginable last week. I just got so excited, and hey, they're free, so why not! I signed us up for July because that's when the hospital website recommended, but now I'm thinking about moving them out another month or so. You gals bring up some good points about the info being fresh in your mind for the big day.

    1. How far along are you? 13.2

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? The anatomy US!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I had my first "I'm not so subtlety judging your pregnancy" encounter at a girls' night Tuesday. It was the friend of one of my good friends and boy, she had some THOUGHTS. "You don't look pregnant enough" and (in regards to my interest in an unmedicated birth or at least exploring the possibility) "Oh hell no. There's a reason I don't live in a third world country." I'm all for everyone doing their own thing but it got a bit awkward.

    4. GTKY: What's your favorite flower? Lilacs! We had several lilac trees growing on my property growing up and the smell of those drifting in the window during summer is DIVINE.

@MRSCORKER I would take the classes starting around 30 weeks. We took the child birthing, parenting and breastfeeding classes and 2 days after our last class my water broke. I was 36 weeks. Not saying that will happen to you, just my experience. Also, if you and your SO have any knowledge of how to change a diaper and feed a baby, the parenting class may not be worth the money if you need to pay IMO. We took it because it was free, but really got nothing out of ours. Before we left the hospital, the nurses made my husband change a diaper or two and showed us how to bathe the baby. Maybe someone else can chime in on their experience. The other two classes were great. Also, if you decide to breastfeed, take advantage of any services your hospital offers. Mine offered a BFing support group, which I went to a few times and it was extremely helpful.

    @lindzsers welcome!

  • Thanks @Tara0604! I think we're just gonna do the preparing for childbirth and breastfeeding classes to start. I fully plan to use all available resources and the hospital where the classes are is where I will deliver and they include a full L&D tour and Q&A. I don't think we'll take the parenting class, I kinda figured it would be pretty basic stuff.
