Anybody else still swaddling?

Is anyone else still swaddling their LO?  We are still swaddling our 15 week old son in a miracle blanket.  He hasn't rolled yet so I feel fine swaddling him safety wise.  Just wondered what the best approach for weaning off the Swaddle is or if I can just wait till he starts rolling over.

Re: Anybody else still swaddling?

  • My son is almost 14 weeks and still swaddled, he hasn't rolled yet either. I got a zipadeezip to transition him in and already use that at nap time

  • We still swaddle too. He will be 14w, Wednesday.  DS is starting to let us know that he isn't tolerating it anymore, because he is getting really fussy at night in them. It's a struggle right now because he still has that darn startle reflex and his arms go crazy, but he wants them free so he can chew on his hands. It's been a little rough these last two nights with him. I'm torn on what to do!
  • Yes my DD is 11w and we use the Love to Dream arms up swaddle sack.. She still has a pretty heavy startle reflex. :/
  • Funny this subject is brought up! I'm just getting ready for bed and after 3 terrible nights of sleep for us, I'm going to try to unswaddle tonight!

    wish us luck!
  • Still swaddling here. We used to use sleep sacks when she was 2 weeks but then she wasn't sleeping well again and her hands kept getting in the way when I fed her so I started swaddling. Trying to wean her off it now. No swaddle during day naps... Not a lot of progress there tho. She knows swaddle means sleep,
  • We haven't been able to swaddle DD with arms in since she was 2 weeks. She likes having her arms free. I still wrap her arms out at night, but it comes off about half way through because she kicks her feet in the air so much and I usually bring her into the bed with me. I've been tempted to try it without, but her feet get so cold if she's in footless pjs and I can't keep socks on her. Gah!
  • DD sleeps in a sleep sack but with arms out.
  • We swaddle one arm out. It helps with the startle reflex and gives him some freedom.

Same here. My DD struggles to get her arms out so she can chew her hands. She'll literally remove her binky with her hands and start biting her hands. I'm not sure whether to let her and stop swaddling, or continue swaddling until she starts rolling over. She sleeps through the night fine without waking 8-5:30. Idk....
  • We're still swaddling and DD will be 15 weeks on Wednesday. She can't seem to settle without it during the day. We bedshare at night so swaddle comes off after her first stretch when we bring her in bed.
  • Still swaddling here at 18w. She won't sleep unless swaddled.

DD is 16 weeks and can roll from back to front. Problem is that she started doing this before we tried to transition her from the swaddleme. Last week we started using sleep sacks but she would just keep flipping over to belly and crying because she doesn't like to flip back on her own. After 2 sleepless nights of arm flailing and flipping she got a cold so she's been sleeping in the rock n play ever since with a sleep sack. She will not take a paci so sucks on hands/thumb before and during her sleeps. I am not looking forward to giving it another go in the crib once she's feeling better but I think she's on the mend so it will likely happen this week. I would suggest to all you gals to transition before your LO can flip and you are forced to go cold turkey from the swaddle!!  Unless you like staying up all night :)

Someone told me to start with one arm out at a time.  We tried that the other not but it was an epic fail!  He smacked himself in the face so many times in the first 2 hrs I went back in and swaddled him.  He smiled and signed and went to sleep lol. abteamb said:

We tried the love to dream Swaddle (arms are up) because when DS isn't swaddled he chews his hands but he didn't like it.  I still try every once in a while but his startle is too strong still.
  • 15 weeks and DD is still swaddled. She's showing signs of trying to roll but can't get there yet, so I think my swaddling days are limited. I've been trying to transition by using the zipadeezip, but so far she will not settle it it. She just flails her arms and tries to put them in her mouth and ends up crying. I've also tried one arm out and it makes her crazy... It's like she's tasted freedom and won't settle until she can get the other arm out. I think this will end badly for me with us getting no sleep once the Swaddle is out of the picture. With it she sleeps great (most nights). My last ditch effort will be the Merlins sleep suit, but it just looks silly and hot so I'm trying to avoid it.

  • Mines 13 weeks and we still swaddle with the woombie. She has unintentional roll overs sometimes. Nothing consistent so we use the woombie with the pillows on the side. I'll feel comfortable not using a waddle when I know she can freely move herself off her stomach and she's able to manipulate things out of her face more
  • We are still swaddling Odie. This morning when we woke up he was sleeping on his side, so I know the time is soon. His startle reflex is pretty strong but the way we use the swaddle allows him to hold his own hands or get them out if he really needs. I guess we will see how the next few months go.

  • I still swaddle Cole and he is 16 weeks on Wednesday. It's a game to him though and he ends up with his arms out and feet out so by morning he just has the blanket wrapped around his middle and a giant smile. He knows when he is swaddled it's time to go to sleep.
  • We swaddled unti about 13 weeks when rolling back to stomach started. For a week we did one arm out with the SwaddleMe, then transitioned to a zipadeezip, which has worked like magic for a week now.
  • Can't wait for the reflex to be gone so I can stop swaddling. She accepts it at bed time but then at 5am wakes up pissed
  • We are still swaddling because he still has that Moro reflex but we have a swaddleup so his hands are up(but covered) plan on trying to swaddle in the halo with hands up and accessible tonight

  • We do.  His arms are still all crazy.  My other two hated swaddling so this is new territory for me.

  • Well I tried not swaddling again.. And that thing went back on at about 2AM!! And he slept for 7 hours after that!
  • Lurking from N15 but LO born Dec 8 and I can't get him out of the swaddle! He just cries and cries at night without it and rubs and scratches his face and flails about like a crazy baby until he's swaddled and then he sleeps like a dream child. Idk what to do. I am trying one arm it now... It worked 2 nights ago but not so much last night. I have the zipadezip too and that has been a big fat fail for us, although I like that I can't scratch his face....
  • I swaddle and we still sleep in the RNP. I might cry when we have to do something different...

We love it. Ds learned to roll back to front while swaddled at about 10 weeks (but still hasn't done it unswaddled). We got it and it has been great. It muffles his reflex just enough and is so cozy. He really sleeps well in it.
  • Well DS escaped from the miracle blanket 3x last night

  • Still swaddling here with the halo sleep sack swaddles. LO is 3 months old. Our days are numbered though because the little Houdini can get his little fists out to chew on.
  • Still swaddling at 12 weeks. Days are definitely numbered since daycare will not swaddle past 4 months unless I have a doctor's note. Debating if I want to even ask our pedi or if I should just have daycare do the weaning for me but still swaddle at night.

We ended up putting a swaddle me on top of the miracle blanket and left DS naked under instead of jammies.  He didn't escape from that!
  • The past two nights I have come to bed to find DD in her RNP with her left arm stretched out over her head! So..it seems she is transitioning herself out of this swaddle! She slept fine but I wish she'd keep it in her little hand is an icicle by morning!
  • We bought the love to swaddle up. However, I'm not sure how I like it. It holds DD arms in one place. She's not able to stretch them up. Idk if this is bad for her arms. Anyone else try this? Any input? I'm debating whether to return it or not. She slept completely fine from 9-6:30am, I'm just a bit concerned about her arms.

We returned it. I'm going to order the zipadeezip to see.
  • Swaddling is supposed to hold their arms in one place and keep their hips and legs free. It helps with the Moro reflex/startle reflex.

I have bought so many different swaddle blankets, miracle blanket, Woombie. Is a sleep sack worth it? Will it help with some of the reflex a bit?
edit: I ask because as I said before she wants out of the swaddle so badly but still needs something, especially since I am planning a crib transition (ack)

Sleep sack doesn't swaddle. However, you can get a swaddle sleep sack: https://www.halosleep.com
I've not used their swaddle sleep sack (love their regular sleep sacks!), but you can transition from using the swaddle wings to not using them, I think. https://www.halosleep.com/safe-swaddling-made-easy-1/

We returned it. I'm going to order the zipadeezip to see.
We ordered a zipadee zip too.  They were having their mystery sale where you pick a side and boy/girl print and they send you one from last year.
  • Wanted to bump this back up. Anyone like the zipdeezip? I see some of you bought them.

My daughter is still swaddled on her arms only. She is 4 months today. She is in a Pavlik harness at night so she physically cannot roll. She sleeps great and always has. But when she does break out or her hand comes out, she LOSES HER MIND about 90% of the time. I'm terrified to stop swaddling her arms. We have another 5 weeks of the harness at night so I may hair wait until then to stop. Wondering how others transitioned and if anyone else is still swaddling arms?
