Serious question, how do those of you with littles already keep a clean house? Mine won't let me leave the room without serious consequences (aka destroy all the toys or cry at the door). They both seem to have separation anxiety and if I'm gone longer than 5 min, they act like life ended. My poor H is very understanding, but it's getting difficult to even go cook dinner. Our kitchen is extremely old and small and I can't take them in there and cook safely.
sdnybrk1 - how old are your littles? I carve out a few hours one day on the weekend and basically ignore them and do housework. H usually entertains them - or they're content in front of the TV. I need to clean for my sanity so I feel like using the TV as a babysitter is justified.

2 and 3.5...H helps on the weekends when he isn't at my parents helping them with something in their yard. DS1 "helps" when he can, but my 2 year old is still at the "I'm helping by destroying what you just did" stage. Lol. Sorry, I'm not meaning to complain. My mom just likes to make snarky comments about my house daily (i.e. i bought a new clothes hamper for my boys so I could use the current one for new baby, my mom "oh, i thought you just used the floor") and I'm trying to figure out if it's just me or if I'm really that horrible at being a sahm.

You are not horrible. I also sometimes clean during nap time or when she is in bed. And I only have one (until June!). And my house is usually a disaster.

I have twin 2 1/2 yr olds the path of destruction is endless... I also have the worlds smallest kitchen, I put a baby gate (9ft long lol) up to keep them out when I'm cleaning the kitchen or cooking and it's made a world of difference in my ability to get stuff done but they can still see and interact with me.
@KOR121 sending lots of prayers your way for your grandmother, your stress level, and your house situation. I'm in DFW too and my husband is a roofing contractor, so if y'all need anything just shoot me a message!
@KOR121 very sorry to hear about your grandmother.
@sdnybrk1 I tweaked a cleaning schedule I saw on Pinterest. It helps me keep focused and I get a ton done during nap. I sometimes use the tv or various toys to distract. Duplo Legos are great and they clean up fast.

How old?! Could you do a pack n play in the kitchen with you? As for cleaning I try and get as much as I can done during naps or when my husband gets home. I kind of clean on my DS time, when he's busy doing something I'll sneak in what I need to get done. If it's safe I let him "help" me. It takes longer but if I have the time I just let him so I can get whatever the task is done

Ohhhh your mom sounds as peachy as mine does!!!!!
From my personal experience, it's not you at all - it's your judgey jerk mom who is a horrible person but goddammit does she have a clean house - and really, that's what matters in life right?
And yes, I was referring to my mom, not yours. But she makes comments like that ALL. THE. TIME.
It's not you. It's her. Don't let it get to you. Just laugh it off.
@KOR121 I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. Praying for you and your loved ones
@Tawny87 we did baby gates for a while, until they learned to climb them lol. We literally have double stacked gates in one doorway to keep them away from computers and game systems
@hockeyfan42 I used to clean during nap, but recently we are trying to get DS2 into a toddler bed so we can use the crib which means I end up crammed in bed with him until he falls asleep...usually about the time DS1 wakes up. I'm hoping, hoping he gets back on their schedule soon. I did have them napping at the same time, for at least an hour, until the bed transition. Same at night, 30-45 minutes, minimum, to get DS2 in bed. We do pick up our toys before nap and bed, at least
@CourtJack sounds exactly like mine. I love her but I'm a keeper, she is a thrower and we have never agreed on stuff. She cleans all the time...it's just her and my dad. She also can't grasp why I might get a little overwhelmed bc she raised 2 kids and stayed at home. Yeah, my brother is 7 years older than me. She literally had one kid at home at a time bc you know, school.
Sorry, didn't mean to high jack the randoms thread.

It depends on what needs done. For laundry I fold it on my bed and put a baby gate in the hall. The boys can go from my room to theirs and that's all. We use baskets to store toys in their room so clean up is fast even if everything gets dumped onto the floor.
For cleaning: bathrooms I wait until nap time, vacuuming DS1 has a small vacuum that he uses to "help" and DS2 gets a piece of the big vacuum, dusting they both get a rag to "help", mopping gets done during nap time if possible.
For making dinner I try to do prep work the night before after the kids are in bed and use my crock pot a lot. Other times I make dinner during afternoon snack while the kids are watching TV, but my kitchen and family room are one open space so I can keep an eye on them.

Wear him, turn the TV on, have him help (play vacuum, his own wipe), let him play in the sink when I clean bathrooms. Clean during naptime or at night. Or like lately, just don't clean.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI! Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
@KOR121 I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. My uncle died of brain cancer 2 weeks ago on my sons second birthday and my aunt is undergoing chemo for bile duct cancer. It seems like it gets everyone eventually and has caused so much anxiety for us lately. I'm sending prayers yalls way!

Oh boo! We had someone we worked with before come out this morning for an estimate and H really likes the guy so I'm assuming we will be using them. If not, I'll totally message you! #bumpbusiness

we are toddler nap hell twins. I am the size of a baby water buffalo and he still wants me to "nap nap seeeeeeeeping" with him when he is going down. I can't fit in his bed with him! So- now I try to lie on a mattress on the floor next to his bed and still get him down in his bed. It is futile.

Thank you. And yes, no one passes from "old age" it seems like. Most of the time, it is some form of cancer. Prayers for your family. I am convinced that the pharma industry doesn't want a cure for cancer since they make sooooo much money off of the months of treatment.
We won't know treatment options until next week probably. And my grandmother being the wonderful, sparky person she is will either say: Okay, let's do it and not ask any questions. Or she will say...I'm not doing that shit. Gosh, I love that woman.
Totally have a twatwaffle Tuesday submission now thanks to a cousin and this being all about her.

I'm really, really sorry to hear about your Grandma. My grandfather battled throat cancer as well. It's actually pretty rare. Your feisty Grandma sounds awesome, but it's definitely been a rough week for you. No need to wait till Tuesday. If you want, rant away now, lousy cousin!!
I am so sorry to hear about all of your family members going through such hard times I will be keeping all of you (and your families) in my thoughts and prayers!
@pbear93 Woohoo for you being from Columbus previously!! I feel like I should go to Rita's now lol and City Barbecue mmmm!!!
@Emztron500 Good luck at your interview! And don't worry about the maternity nylons. I got some to wear with a dress at New Years and they were super uncomfortable, even back then! You are NOT missing out!

I'm am so glad to hear I'm not the only mom that as to lay with their child until they fall asleep!! We're also trying the toddler bed and it's working other than that part!!
As to the cleaning, you are not a terrible mother!! My DS will just following me as i put his toys away and bring them back into the living one by one! My sweet DH will clean the kitchen and the living room once DS goes to sleep. We've both have just come to terms that our house is just going to be messy for the next few years!
@deepaddy24 uh oh. That sounds like a great sale, wonder if US stores are doing it.
Annnnddd... Based on the personal news of quite a few on this board....can we agree to say EFF CANCER. THE TOTS HATE YOU.
Grandmother just got got out of surgery and it's confirmed that she has tracheal cancer. She has never smoked a day in her life. Should I reopen the smoking daycare thread? Smoking still does cause cancer, along with a shit load of other things. #science

@Emztron500 break a leg!!!!!!!!
@KOR121 Sorry about your grandmother.
@sdnybrk1 I clean while she is messing things up...sometimes it helps if my pace is faster than hers.
@KOR121 I'm so sorry about the house situation and your grandma!! Is tracheal cancer treatable? Thinking of you!!

@kor121 I'm so sorry. Your grandma sounds like she's ready to kick its ass.
@sdnybrk1 my house is a mess. I try to clean on the weekends and evenings when DD is asleep, but I feel like it is a losing battle.
@PBear93 OMG you just made my day even more amazing!!! Thank you!! How did I never know this?!?!
Congrats @Emztron500! I googled 'free your crotch' in ref to MrsAlliKat 's comment and this was the first picture that came up. So great!
regardless, YAY FOR @Emztron500!!!
